Book Description
Topselling author Harriet Lerner is at her provocative best in this well-received examination of fear, anxiety, and shame, the three key emotions that she believes cause all unhappiness.
Using her wonderfully rich and inviting therapeutic voice, along with personal memories and examples drawn from her practice, Lerner gives fear and its accompanying negative emotions, anxiety and shame, their due.
Anxiety, fear and shame can wash over us like a tidal wave or operate as a silent thrum under the surface of our daily lives. With stories that are sometimes hilarious and sometimes heart-breaking, Lerner takes us from 'fear-lite' and mild anxiety to deep dread, shame and terror.
No-one signs up for anxiety, fear and shame, but we can't avoid them, either. The more we can look these emotions in the eye, with patience and curiosity, and the more we learn to spot their wisdom and mischief, the less grip they have on us. As we learn to respond to the three key emotions in new ways, we can live more fully in the present and move into the future with courage, clarity, humour and hope.
Customer Reviews:
good solid Harriet Lerner.......2007-06-14
I read this book after having read The Dance of Intimacy several months ago. The Dance of Intimacy was like a huge wake-up call for me, whereas this book was very interesting and helpful, just not as earth-shattering. I am generally an anxious person, and I did learn a little bit about living with my anxiety and not making it worse. But I didn't connect with all the stories the way I did with the previous Lerner book I read. I still think Harriet Lerner is an amazing insightful woman. I'm glad that I read and bought this book, but maybe my expectations were a little too high. I would give the book 3 1/2 stars if I could.
Very Good.......2007-01-29
Great book and good way to understand how to manage your anxieties and fears. This book will not make your fears go away, but rather enable you to work with them. A pratical approach.
Fear not the fear.......2006-12-31
A wonderfully written and highly applicable book that highlights the importance of tuning into fear, anxiety, and shame for the underlying wisdom and guidance they provide, instead of simply seeing them as unbearable emotions to avoid at all costs. This book is bound to be helpful for anyone whose fear and anxiety make them prisoners of their home, workplace, and inner thoughts.
awesome book.......2006-11-01
Anxiety, panice attack and depression, these are all clinical problems that sometimes need medication, but you can't get a complete cure unless you remove the sourse of them. You need to increase your wisdom to better see the problem. I found this book amazing in this job. You can feel the ocean of wisdom in her words.
look at your shadows.......2006-01-02
Rebeccasreads highly recommends THE DANCE OF FEAR as book about the tangled tango of life with people -- sometimes you lead & sometimes you follow, & if you know what makes you tick, who's doing what isn't nearly as important as who's in charge of you, & that talking it out is the one thing that really helps.
Dr. Lerner doesn't write trite self-help hand books, the questions she asks & the answers people give her set the scene for her articulate insights. Take time to read THE DANCE OF FEAR because it's about what these emotions are, how we behave because of them, what harm happens when we don't know what's driving us, & how we react to events, great & small, that have us frozen in the headlights or hiding away from life.

Book Description
"Personal Best, Chasing the Wind Above and Below the Equator" is more than a sailing adventure. It's the story of one man's drive to realize his dream. Never being satisfied with the ordinary Ed, he drops in and out of an engineering career to be a farmer in the mountains of North Carolina. After several years he re-enters the corporate world and has a rich and rewarding career with a major U.S. corporation. Always, he strives to do "his personal best." Finally it's time for his dream to be realized. He and his wife will sail around the world. Sail with them as they experience the wonders, triumphs, and difficulties of living their dream. Storms, breakdowns, personal loss, and a miraculous escape from drowning in the 2004 Tsunami in Thailand serve as the backdrop to seeing the wonders of the world and meeting the people who are a part of it.
AUTHOR BIO: Edward Muesch was born in New Jersey and spent his childhood years growing up in Phoenix, Arizona. Ed's background in mechanical engineering led to a successful career as a Director of Engineering for a major U.S. corporation. His technical papers and sailing articles have appeared in several publications and he has appeared on several talk shows. Ed took early retirement in 2001 to fulfill his lifelong dream of sailing around the world. Ed and his wife, Helen, live on their Hans Christian ketch, presently in the Mediterranean and have a flat in Margarita, Venezuela.

Waters Above the Firmament (The Best of Stonehenge Viewpoint)
Donald L. Cyr Editor
Manufacturer: Stonehenge Viewpoint
ProductGroup: Book
Binding: Paperback
ASIN: B000F4SO86 |
Product Description
From the Introduction: "Waters abvoe the Firmament" was first published over one hundred years ago in the Spring of 1874 by Isaac N. Vail. As as sentimental gesture, the entire "tract" is republished herewith. In his later writings Vail considered that the canopy would contain a myriad of ice crystals causing spectacular halos that were seen by ancient peoples. This original idea has ramifacations that are improtant even in our own day. Some of Vail's other ideas may appear quaint to the minds of sophisticates, but to underestimate the imortance of Vail's basic theme would be a grave mistake. -Editor

Book Description
The challenge was difficult, many applied, few were accepted.
Those accepted were not guaranteed to pass. Few graduated, only to face the reality of war.
Southeast Asia was the battlefield of many consequences. Survival meant other sacrifices as well as team spirit. Seven young Warrant Officer Candidates managed to graduate only to find themselves in the perils of war not of their choosing but because of their love of flying.
Customer Reviews:
Love of flight makes for reluctant heroes.......2004-04-12
I touching story about how regular individuals, because of their situation, find themselves undertaking extraordinary feats. Carrying out otherwise unthinkable acts of heroism, not because of their love of war, but perhaps just the opposite; their bonds of loyalty and friendship, and the impossible hope that they might all live through the horror that is war.
I would suggest this book to anybody interested in the topics of: aviation, history, warfare, etc.
