Memorex MVD2030 Vertical Progressive-Scan DVD Player

Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description
Memorex's unique, vertically oriented MVD2030 DVD player is configured for both desktop placement and home theater enjoyment. The unit offers high-end component-video outputs, progressive scanning (for use with high-definition or HD-ready TVs), built-in MP3 decoding, and Kodak Picture CD playback. MP3 compatibility includes folder and subfolder navigation, though be aware that it will only read the MP3 portions of mixed-format MP3 CDs.

Whether your living room is currently home to an HDTV or you're merely thinking of "someday," the MVD2030 stands ready to deliver the full potential of DVDs. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. Top-of-the-line component-video outputs help minimize line scan and digital artifacts on compatible advanced televisions, while composite- and S-video outputs bring compatibility with nearly any television.

A single set of left/right analog-audio outputs channel audio to Dolby Pro Logic receivers and stereo televisions. Both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's coaxial digital-audio output for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver. Even without a surround receiver or six-channel speaker setup, every movie night can be the ultimate experience: Virtual Surround simulates surround sound through two speakers (even the stereo speakers on a TV). It also includes a "reverb" setting through which you can tailor the level of additional audio ambience. Playback options include parental locks (password protect), repeat (chapter, disc, A-B), random play, 20-track CD programming, and picture zoom (2x, 3x, 4x). The unit comes with a composite-video/stereo analog-audio interconnect, instruction manual, and a remote control

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars A non-starter and very difficult to get help.......2005-08-03

This item new did not work. The Memorex customer support advised its return and had no suggestions to get it to work. It is no longer produced. I would advise against purchasing this DVD non-player.

5 out of 5 stars Great DVD Player........2004-05-20

I don't know what the other reviews problem was, cause this thing just works. I bought it for the spare bedroom, but now it's replaced my $600+ Mitsubishi DVD player I got several years ago. I currently have 3 of this unit, each purchased during the past year at Target. I think I paid $59.99 for the first one and $49.99 for the other 2. I use one to travel with. It's small, so it fits nicely in my luggage. I've never had a problem with it and it's been handled by the airport luggage handlers on about 10 different trips. Also, this thing plays every format out there. It plays, DVD, SVCD, CD+G, MP3, CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, and karioke disks. My local Target is out. I hope they get some more, cause I'll buy them for gifts.

4 out of 5 stars Best Little DVD Player Out There.......2004-03-12

I bought a Memorex E-Gear DVD player model MVD2030 at Target about 1 year ago. This is the best player I've seen. It can play virtually any format. CD audio, DVD, CDR MP3 disks, CDR MPG disks (for those of you into music videos), DVD MP3 disks both DVD+R and DVD-R. Yea, and it can play cdr's full of jpgs too. It can't play avi files but I haven't found anything else that can do this either. Need built in avi decoders as well as mp3 and mpg decoders. I've yet to see any other dvd player do all that. As far as reliability, I've had no problems and I even bought another one. I've bought 3 other dvd players, Sony DVP NS325, Apex AD703, and a Philips Vertical DVD590M. The only one of the others dvd players that comes close to comparing to the Memorex is the Philips. The Philips can play a wider range of bitrates when it comes to mp3s but doesn't do as well at rendering mpgs on the large screen of a television. I was suprised at how will some of the mpgs look on the tv.
Do yourself a big favor and buy one of these cheap but great dvd players! Ignore the Bozo that reviewed this player and gave it a one star! I give the Memorex, 4 stars because it could play a wider range of bitrates when it comes to mp3s. Bitrates as high as 320 would be nice. Bitrates of 128-192kbps should cause no problem with the Memorex. Above 192 kbps I hear some distortion (e.g. 224 kpbs). The memorex can also handle variable bitrates. Also a built in avi decoder would have been nice. Being able to see more characters in the names of mp3s when viewing them on the television would also be nice. The Memorex remote control works very well. Buy one!

1 out of 5 stars Piece of Junk.......2004-02-19

Stay away from this piece of garbage. The device will actually turn on less than half of the time. The manual claims this may be normal due to humidity, but I've tried all of the recommended fixes and it still doesn't work. Save your money!
