Good sound, not so good interface.......2006-02-02
- The cassette deck does not have auto-reverse. I have some music only on audio cassettes and it is a hassle to have to change the side. I don't think the system has Dolby NR either.
- The buttons on the remote and on the main unit are not well laid out. The main unit does not have a button for pause and the button for selecting the radio is combined with the aux input.
I don't like the silver cover on the speakers.
Brilliant Sound..........2006-01-17
The sound from this system is fantastic, bold and clear. Very very impressed.
One word. Watch for the exclamation marks........2006-01-11
To say we are blown away with the sound quality is, if anything, understatement. Wow!!
If you'd like an idea of where I'm coming from, the Tivoli Model Two with its companion CD player was the prime contender. At over 600-dollars Cdn., though, it turned out to be twice the price of the Panasonic, which ultimately was a deal-breaker. Back to the drawing board.
We were seriously considering a couple of the Sonys with subwoofers when we stumbled on the SC-PM91D and the fact that it played just about anything you could throw at it. Its versatility and future potential were intriguing.
Once we actually saw our choices, we decided we just didn't want to look at the Sonys every day, regardless of sound. We were back down to one and one listen was all it took. Let's just say the Panasonic's classy and timeless appearance didn't hurt.
By the time we had our new puppy up and running on our bedroom dresser, we were grinning like a couple of school kids. The superb audio, with more than enough tweaking options and no real need for a subwoofer, is a thing of beauty. There are even *two* surround modes. How good does life get?
Couple of things you might want to consider: the main unit is the size of a small PC tower, which means putting it on most night tables is a no-go. Also, with that in mind, it occurred to me that jacking it into a surge protector might not be a bad idea. We picked up one today.
Hope this helps you in your choice.
As I was writing, a couple of recently-recorded big band CDs arrived from Amazon and a quick preview of one had me grinnin', again.
If you'll pardon me, I have a concert date with Mr. Menza, Mr. La Barbera, their assembled companies and our highly-recommended Panasonic SC-PM91D. Hot damn!!
sounds clear to me.......2005-11-28
Speakers ARE shielded. NO white noise........2005-11-26
