Sylvania's DVL150G progressive-scan DVD player offers high performance in an affordable package. So, I wasn't expecting to get a high end piece of electronics for the price this unit costs, but I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the picture that this DVD player provides. Great value for the money and I would recommend it. On a side note, the vendor ANTOnline is also recommended. Excellent communication and super fast shipment. I got the DVD player before any other part of my order. Great experience overall!

Horrible!.......2007-06-05

This dvd player didn't work at all. I tried to play a dvd in it and it kept saying disk error. I called the customer service and they said to return the dvd player. I had a feeling that this was going to happen. I just hate having to go through all that trouble.

Component video (also called Y/Pb/Pr) features a three-jack video input, which provides separate connections for luminance (Y), blue color difference (PB) and red color difference (PR). This results in increased bandwidth for color information, resulting in a more accurate picture with clearer color reproduction and less bleeding than you would get with S-Video or composite (RCA yellow video plug) connections. You will need a separate RCA left/right audio cable for sound.

Response Time refers specifically to LCD monitor and refers to the amount of time it takes for a liquid crystal cell to from active (black) to inactive (white) and back against to active (black). It's measured in milliseconds (ms), and the lower the number the faster the response time--translating to a smoother picture with fewer pixilated or ghosted artifacts.

Nice for the money.......2007-05-21

The first one I bought was defective. The DVD didn't work at all. I purchased it from Electronics Express and when I contacted them they were wonderful. They gave me an RMA number right away, Fedex picked it up the next day and a new one arrived 1 week later. This one is just fine. I really love the clarity of the picture. My only complaint is that in DVD mode, the sound isn't loud enough. I have it in my RV and with the A/C running, I can barely hear it. I solved the problem by running an audio out jack from the TV to the input on the RV stereo speaker system. It's very lightweight and easy to move around and store. A bonus for the RV. The remote isn't great, but it works just fine and the video/audio jacks and antenna input are easy to get to as is the DVD player. All in all, it's a great deal for the price.

*** BEWARE ***.......2007-04-21

This TV is set so that it is not capable of a "recall" function. If you want to flash back between channels, this TV is not going to give it to you. The remote control that comes with the TV has no recall function, so I bought a Sony universal, which is a much better remote, that had the recall button on it. However, I soon learned that the TV is set at the factory to not have the capability to flash-back. It may not be a big deal to some, but this user found it very annoying.

I bought this tv at the beginning of the year and it has been nothing but wonderful. It's so versatile. I love how you can tilt it up and down. The stand is awesome and you have the option to wall mount it. The remote is really easy to use as well. No complaints so far! ;)

I bought this for my wife for her birthday,and had toreturn it because the DVD palyer would not work. I returned it and got a repalcement, which once again the DVD player failed to work! It is a piece of junk.

This is a basic, good lcd tv. It has a built in dvd player, which unforturnately will not play jpeg files (I overlooked that). I would probably have bought it anyway due to the price. It also has analog and digital tuners built in. Those and the dvd were very important to me. The picture is very good for a bedroom or other small tv type placement. When using an antenna, the digital channels do not follow the corresponding analog channel, they are grouped after all analog channels. That was kind of irritating, but not too bad.

With the upcoming years in electronics coming up, the whole television signal will be completely changed from the traditional NTSC analog, to the ATSC signal, many people don't know which kind of a television to buy. Although it is tough, many people can't afford the HDTV's, many are considering EDTV's, and SDTV's instead. Sylvania does know that feeling for all consumers. They've definitely made some of the best quality electronics on the market, and still bring out the best that is affordable. This television does bring out that theory well for anyone who wants a new television.

The Sylvania LD200SL8 is a 20 inch LCD television is a lightweight and convient DTV to buy, at a affordable price. The television is easy to setup and easy to operate. At a lightwieght 17 pounds, it is easy to place on your entertainment center, or hang on your television mount. The television also is sleek, and includes a DVD player that works well. It is compatable to nearly all DVD playback compatablities. It is capable of playing DVD+/-RW discs in Video mode only (not VR mode as the case with Sylvania's DVD recorders), MP3 CD's and traditional CD's. The sound really is great to listen to in crisp dolby digital sound for your favorite movies and television shows. The display is delightful and looks great, and elequently well for your cable box, as well video game systems like the Playstation 3 or Xbox 360. There is one disadvantage, you can't change the screen from 16x9 widescreen, unless you have a HD converter box or antenna.

All in all, the Sylvania LD200SL8 is a great TV/DVD combo at an affordable price for those who trust Sylvania, and for anybody on a budget. I really like Sylvania's brands of electronics, and I really recommend this for anyone who wants to change with the times, but not strectch so much out of the price.

Used on Sony Bravia LCD and got same results as factory default settings except for tint which was badly biased to red. Managed to get a better picture using trial and error (by varying things like backllight and sharpness which are not evaluated by spydertv). Tech support is a joke. Don't waste your money!

Color Blind.......2007-04-24

I'm in the midst of auditioning LCD panels and the local ISF certified guy wants $350 per panel to calibrate them. I like TV and everything, but there's just no way that I am going to spend $350 on TV that I might possibly keep.

Still, the store settings on any two panels have two problems. First, they are amped up beyond compare as the TV vendors compete to be "who's the brightest" on the lit showroom floor. Sitting in my living room, they are far far too bright to watch. Second, they display colors totally differently. It's just hard to compare to 2 sets that are calibrated so differently.

Now the TVs that we are looking at cost a pretty penny, and it seemed that a couple of hundred dollars to inform the decision was a good idea, just like the hundred dollars for an HDMI splitter seemed like a good idea. The splitter was a good idea, the Spyder TV Colormeter not so much.

I calibrated 2 panels with this product. Two things are true about the calibrations. First, they do not look at all the same. The Sony panel has red shifted flesh tones while the Sharp looks cold and sterile. Second, they look way way worse than before the calibration. After 20 minutes of watching Casino Royale, it was time to revert back to a toned down version of the factory defaults for each.

At first I thought that I had not followed the instructions right. Maybe it was not dark enough. Maybe the sensor was not positioned right. Having done the process several times, I can state categorically that while the colorvision Spyder TV may not deliver good results, it is consistent in its delivery of bad results.

I simply cannot recommend this product.

Worked Great on Mitsubishi WD65732 DLP HD TV.......2007-03-25

I used this unit to calibrate my Mitsubishi WD65732 DLP HD TV and was surprised at how good the picture looks after the adjustment. I first went through the tv manual to make sure I understood all the various adjustments the tv makes and wrote them down on a spreadsheet so I could study them and make sure I knew how the language related to the SpyderTV adjustment language. Once I did that and marked down the adjustment ranges, it was a breeze to run the software and make the adjustments. It even creates a pdf file at the conclusion for record purposes and future comparisons. Some of the adjustments for color temperature were surprising, but the bottom line is that the picture looks great!

Didn't work good on a Fujitsu plasma.......2007-02-22

I have the same problem that Xrayman does.
I was wondering if I had a faulty unit since it was an "opened" item and slightly discounted in the store where I bought it. I guess I'm not the only one who has this problem. My TV is a Plasma, for whatever that's worth. And I too found that the SpyderTV did not set things correctly. Color was much too saturated, and contrast and brightness were not correct. The only thing it did do was correctly choose the color temperature, which I do think is better than what I had it set to, so I'm now using SpyderTV's recommended color temp. But I reset everything else back to the settings I had already achieved by eye. I am going to try it out on an old CRT television and see if it works any better on that.

My plasma isn't new, and I would recommend that people do not use this product on a new plasma. It requires you to put a bright white square up on your screen for far too long. I had to run through 15 color temperature settings, letting SpyderTV take a reading on each one, while leaving the bright square up. Took at least 7 minutes. That will temporarily burn the square into a new plasma screen. ...and might throw off the remaining measurements that have to be taken.

This thing is amazing.. My Plasma is like a whole new tv.. My 60" Sony SXRD paired with a PS3 is the best looking picture I have ever seen, after using the STV100. This is a must have.

This, so called, home theater system will work only with your DVD player and is not capable of being used while viewing your cable TV. After several hours (frustrating hours) trying to make this JUNK work I called the 800 number supplied. While everyone was courtious, and being transferred several times, I was told this was not TV capable. Why would anyone buy this?

You get what you pay for.... more or less. The sound quality is very bad. The speakers are what you'd expect $5 speakers to sound like. 500 watts is an total misnomer. Its more like 15W-20W or about what you'd expect out of a $30 boom box. When playing a cd or dvd, there's no display on the front to know what track you're on. It only displays "DVD/CD" or FM/AM station. The rear wireless speaker has a constant buzz. when you turn it on or off there is a loud "crack/thump" as the amplifier turns itself on. Its very light, and seems very cheap. Everything from the cables to the speakers are the cheapest you can possibly get.
What's good: ease of setup (everything is color coded). The video part of a movie is good. Having 5 sources of sound in a room is nice.
Overall, I'm torn. I'm not sure if I should return it, or keep it and buy a few nicer speakers for the front 3 channels.
BTW: If you are going to buy it, please, please don't pay more than $100 for this. look around.

DVD Only System.......2006-06-17

I recently purchsed this home thater in black color for $100.

Good:

1. Wireless rear speaker worked out of the box.
2. Decent sound.

Bad:

1. Only Input is DVD which comes with this unit.
2. Cannot connect any external sources like TV, CD Player or anything.
3. Can't even connect different dvd player.
4. DVD player is NTSC only. Can't play PAL or other region DVDs. Atleast there is no hack for this player in any site.
5. Remote is kind of confusing.
6. Manual is not user friendly.
7. Connection between dvd player and amplifier is via scart type cable. If you break, you are in deep trouble.

I returned the product. Not worth going through the trouble.

I knew the rear speaker was the only wireless unit. What I didn't know is that you cant hear your TV thru this! This is a DVD/CD/radio system. So you can only use this while watching DVDs! I called customer service and the guy laughed saying all he hears are complaints on this unit and the only recourse is to return it. I will. Do not bother with this unit.
