Sony's unique Sony DNE-329SP Sports CD Walkman with Speaker Stand features an attractive and unique integrated speaker stand that not only gives you the option of headphones-free listening, but that also charges the Walkman's (included) rechargeable AA battery while your music is playing. An attractive way to make the most our of your desk space, the speaker stand sports a pair of integrated stereo speakers and allows you to simply detach the Walkman when you're ready to move out into the world and listen to your favorite CDs through your headphones.

And when you're ready to use the Walkman as a portable listening device, the player's Skip-Free G-Protection technology will be ready to provide you with quick recovery from both horizontal and vertical shocks. Playback options include 18 playback modes and a bookmark function that offers a wide array of listening choices, including hearing one track repeatedly, hearing a selection of tracks in a desired order, or listening to tracks randomly.

Compatible with Sony's ATRAC3plus technology, the DNE-329SP Sports CD Walkman is loaded and ready to play the rewritable CDs of albums and tracks you download and burn from Sony's Connect Music Store. The player also comes bundled with Sony's SonicStage CD Simple Burner software. Compatible with most CD burners, this application transfers songs from CDs or MP3 music files from your PC's hard drive and burns them to recordable CDs using ATRAC3plus compression.

ATRAC3plus is Sony's high-quality audio-compression technology that reduces the size of digital audio files while preserving much of a track's original sound quality (similar in concept to MP3 or Dolby Digital sound formats). With ATRAC3plus, music can be burned and compressed at 132, 105, 66, 64, or even 48 kbps (kilobits per second), letting you select the right balance between fidelity and storage space, and allowing you to burn up to 490 songs to a disc at 48 kbps.

Other features include Sony's Digital Mega Bass Sound, which produces rich, deep, bass tones with extremely low harmonic distortion; a five-direction control key, which means that you control five individual functions from a single button; a three-line LCD that provides fast and easy identification of track, title, album and artist information along the location of specific songs; and a PC/audio-in allows simple plug-and-play integration with a digital music device or PC via a 2.5 millimeter jack.

Sound Quality Fair.......2007-05-08

For the price we paid for this product, the sound quality is fair for such small speakers, though I am only using it at my desk at work and I can't have loud volume anyway. Even when using the speakers and everything's plugged in, you still end up going through a lot of batteries for the CD player itself, or you have to use long-lasting lithium batteries because the CD player only holds one AA battery. Mostly this product is just fine.

Great sound, and nice feature in that you can detach it from its external speakers and use it as a conventional CD "walkman." The controls aren't that intuitive, however, and the instructions are somewhat lacking -- it took me quite a while just to figure out how to turn the thing off!

I'm very happy with the Sony D-NE329SP MP3/ATRAC3 CD Walkman with Speaker Stand. It's perfect for the bedside, which is why I purchased it. It doesn't take up a lot of room and the sound is terrific. It has all sorts of functions that I'll need to read the manual to use, but you can just hit the PLAY button as well. It does come with software for converting to the ATRAC3 format if you want, but MP3s work too.

Actually if you have a battery in the cd player and it's docked it will play out of the speakers while unplugged. The dock just has to be set to "CHG/OFF" - Mind you it's not as loud as if it were plugged in but it's not bad. The only thing I don't like is taking the cd player off the dock to change the cd. That could have been done more conviniently. I would also like if the cd player was docked a bit more firmly but I guess it's useful for some that it comes off just by lifting it. All in all, not a bad buy.

Very good product. Really good sound also portable. Only problem is you have to take out your CD player each time from the speaker sustem when you load new CD, otherwise excellent.
