This is the best Receiver i've owned to date. 7.1 and all the features make movie viewing better than a theater. and music enjoyment is top notch.

I've installed countless numbers of these amps, and if you want to save money but still want 7.1 channel surround, look no further than the RX-V659. They don't provide the great sound quality of more expensive units, obviously, but they have a decent number of digital inputs and it does a decent job of video switching. Look at the RX-V661 too. It is the new model of 659 and costs just a tad more if not the same.

very happy with this yamaha receiver.......2007-03-03

Needed to replace a Sony receiver that was pretty old, decided to forego the HDMI for now and am very happy with the V659 from Yamaha. Much much better sounding than the Sony. Plenty of ins and outs. For the price you can't beat it!

Beyond my expectations........2007-01-22

I did a lot of homework before buying this receiver....Then I read a lot of reviews. They all said it was a nice peice of equipment. But after putting it through the paces, it seems to me that they underrated it. I am more than happy with it and I don't consider myself an easy person to please when it comes to stereo equipment.

Excellent Receiver.......2007-01-13

This is the receiver to get if you listen to music from your iPod. Yamaha's digital enhancement DSP mode REALLY works and results in a huge improvement. The only thing lacking is HDMI and I didn't need it nor did I want to pay for it. A/B the Yamaha against a lot of more expensive receivers and really couldn't tell the difference until I got to the $1300 Rotel. Even there, the sound quality wasn't enough better to make up for Rotel's rather backward user intereface. Excellent receiver. Tremendous value.

BTW.. Forget Yamaha's iPod dock. Works well enough sonicly and the connection is easy but the scrolling is very slow. If you have a long play list you'll be very old by the time you get through it.
