While it's nice to protect the LCD, the lack of the ability to add a eyepiece extension makes it more annoying than useful. Your face is pressed against it more when you try to use the eyepiece and the LCD screen has to be closed to use it. I only use this to protect the LCD during transport now and switch to my eye extender for actual use.

I don't know how anyone with a Nikon D200 can go out into the real world and not have his or her LCD monitor unprotected. Sure, the D200 comes with a clear plastic shield, but seriously, do you think that's good enough? Put your Nikon D200 with neck strap over your neck, and if you have a belt buckle or buttons on your shirt, banging away at that clear plastic shield, guess what happens eventually: it gets scratched, and maybe even fractured. For real-world conditions and globe-trotting professionals on the go, what you need for your LCD monitor is a blast shield! The Hoodman HD200 is just that. Like the clear plastic protector that came with your Nikon D200, this Hoodman D200 clips right on, and literally becomes part of the camera. The finish matches the rest of the camera body perfectly. It should have been standard on the Nikon D200, but thank God that Hoodman came up with it. When you open it up, the three shields offer enough shading from external light, so that you can adequately view your photographs. It is truly ingenious. The design and construction is solid; professional-grade. I would list this accessory at #2; just below the purchase of a UV filter to protect the lens. I highly recommend this product.

Hoodman LCD cover - cheap.......2007-01-27

I bought the H-D80 for my new Nikon D80 camera. The hinge pins on the side panels snapped right off the very first time I flipped it open, and no wonder -- turns out they are just tiny thin little plastic pins, even though this is an obvious stress point. This thing certainly isn't durable enough for day to day field use. Wasted my money!

Well-constructed.......2007-01-15

It has worked quite well for the first month, and it appears to be made very well and that it will last a long time. While it does require opening it to see the screen, and then closing it to take the next photo, this is no bother to us. Installation is a snap. Quite satisfied with this.

Terrible Design-breaks easily.......2006-12-12

This cover only attaches at the top (it replaces the viewfinder cover). and can get snagged very easily on the bottom where it is NOT connected to the camera, such as when you put the camera in your bag. Mine is broke, so now the viewfinder piece and the rest of the body are separated. And the two side doors that spring out to hold up the hood when looking at rear LCD are flimsy. One of the side pieces broke at the base after only a few uses (and I'm not rough on my camera equipment). Hoodman needs to provide method to attach to the bottom, even if its some sort of adhesive. I suppose it would be nice if camera makers added some feature to allow for installion of this type of thing, but if they did, it would be proprietary they would charge 3x the price of Hoodman.

Annoying and not worth it.......2006-09-30

I bought this with high hopes that it would help keep the glare the LCD of my Canon 20D when used in bright sun. Well 2 minutes into using it and I couldn't see the LCD any better than without the Hoodman unit installed. So it failed on its claim of being able to keep glare off the LCD display. I pressed on with my test in hopes that maybe the other advertised features would make the $29.95 sticker price of the Hoodman worth it. Well 15 minutes of use had convinced me otherwise. For starters, the LCD display has to remain covered while you are using the camera. Which would be fine, but every now and then I like to review my pictures on the LCD display to make sure I have the exposure set correctly. With the Hoodman installed I had to flip up the cover review the shot, close the cover and take the picture again. Unless you like spending your time fiddling with the sometimes tricky to maneuver open and close procedure of the Hoodman, you'll find this process very annoying.

I agree that the Hoodman did do a good job protecting the LCD display. On the other hand I don't agree that the LCD display is so delicate that it needs protecting. I have owned my Canon 20D for almost two years now and the LCD still looks as new as it did when I first took the camera out of the box. This isn't an iPod that is carried and bounced around in a backpack or glove compartment. The only thing that regularly comes in contact with the LCD display is my nose, which is quite blunt and non abrasive. I may create oily smudges on my LCD regularly but a quick wipe with a soft cloth and it's good as new.

My suggestion is to save your money and buy a drastically cheaper soft cloth to wipe your LCD with.
