Amazon.com Product Description
The HP Pavilion s3020n Slimline desktop PC gives you all the power of a fully loaded home/office desktop in a sleek, silver-and-black chassis that's one-third the size of a traditional PC tower, enabling you to place it unobtrusively anywhere--from your office to entertainment center to kitchen. You can easily burn your home video productions to DVD for friends and family with the dual-layer, multi-format LightScribe DVD/CD burner, which enables you to store up to 8.5 GB of data on a DL disc. And thanks to its integrated Wi-Fi capabilities (802.11b/g), you don't need to worry about stringing Ethernet cable from your broadband modem in another room.
This desktop is powered by the 2.0 GHz AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ dual-core processor, which increases the efficiency and speed of the PC while running multiple programs and the latest multi-threaded software. It features a spacious 250 GB hard drive, 1 GB of installed RAM (2 GB maximum), Nvidia GeForce 6150LE video card with 128 MB of dedicated memory (and up to 319 MB of shared memory), multi-format memory card reader, a wide variety of connectivity options (including both USB 2.0 and FireWire), and digital audio output for home theater surround sound.
This desktop also comes preinstalled with Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium, which includes all of the Windows Media Center capabilities for turning your PC into an all-in-one home entertainment center. In addition to easily playing your DVD movies and managing your digital audio library, you'll be able to record and watch your favorite TV shows (even HDTV). Vista also integrates new search tools throughout the operating system, includes new parental control features, and offers new tools that can warn you of impending hardware failures.
The Basics
- Processor: AMD's Athlon 64 X2 3800+ dual-core processor is built for tomorrow's 64-bit applications, which will require a processor with significant power. It outperforms the highest-performing AMD Athlon 64 4000+ single-core processor on multi-tasking benchmarks by up to 30 percent. Dual-core technology is like having two processors working together, each one taking care of different applications, so power-users actually experience greater performance when multiple applications are running. Digital media enthusiasts will appreciate the enhancements while simultaneously working in high-definition video and photo editing and audio mixing programs. It includes such AMD features as HyperTransport Technology (which increases the communication between integrated circuits) and Enhanced Virus Protection.
This 2.0 GHz processor offers a system bus with speeds up to a blazing 2000 MHz and each core offers a 512 KB L2 cache--for a 1 MB total. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.)
- Hard Drive: The extra-large 250 GB Serial ATA (SATA) hard drive (7200 RPM) offers a wealth of storage space, perfect for storing a vast multimedia collection or for editing digital video. This SATA hard drive also quickens the pace with a higher speed transfer of data--akin to FireWire and USB 2.0.
- Memory: The 1 GB of installed RAM (2 x 512 MB DDR2) is a good start, but you'll want to add more RAM to handle today's demanding multimedia and productivity suites. It provides two DIMM slots and has a 2 GB maximum RAM capacity. To receive the faster data transfer benefits of the dual-channel DDR2 RAM, any RAM additions require memory modules of same capacity and clockspeed.
- DVD/CD Drive: This multiformat DVD/CD drive is compatible with writing both DVD+ and DVD- disc formats as well as dual-layer (DL) DVD+/-R discs, which can store up to 8.5 GB of data. It features 4x DVD-R DL Write Once, 8x DVD+R DL Write Once, 16x DVD+R, 8x DVD+RW, 16x DVD-R, 6x DVD-RW, 5x DVD-RAM, 40x CD-R, 32x CD-RW write speeds and 40x CD-ROM, and 16x DVD-ROM read speeds.
This LightScribe DVD+/-RW drive lets you laser-etch silkscreen quality text and images on to CDs and DVDs . Your software, PC and discs work together for a no-hassle way to burn just the labels you want. After you burn content, just flip the disc over, reinsert and burn your label--anything from a simple title to a full-disc work of art.
- Keyboard & Mouse: This desktop comes with an HP multimedia keyboard and optical mouse (both PS/2) and remote control.
Screen, Video & Audio
This desktop features an integrated Nvidia GeForce 6150LE graphics/video card with up to 319 MB of shared video memory (allocated from the system RAM). Nvidia's exclusive TurboCache technology allows direct rendering from the GPU to system memory by leveraging the bi-directional PCI Express bandwidth. The TurboCache Manager dynamically allocates memory for maximum system performance while intelligent software algorithms maximize application performance. It also offers an integrated audio card that can produce high definition surround sound configurable to 8 speakers.
Networking, Connectivity & Expansion
This desktop has an integrated 54g wireless LAN that's fully compatible with 802.11b/g wireless networks. For expansion, this Slimline desktop has one PCI slot (occupied), one 5.25-inch external bay (occupied), and one internal 3.5-inch bay (occupied). It comes with the following external connections:
- 5 USB 2.0 ports for connecting a wide range of peripherals--from digital cameras to MP3 players
- 1 FireWire (also known as IEEE 1394 or i.Link) port for connecting digital video camcorders and other peripherals
- 2 PS/2 ports for connecting keyboards and mice
- 1 VGA monitor port
- 15-in-1 multi-format memory card reader, compatible with CompactFlash I/II, IBM Microdrive, Secure Digital (SD), miniSD, MultiMediaCard (MMC), Reduced Size MultiMediaCard (RS-MMC), MultiMediaCard Plus (MMC plus), MultiMediaCard Mobile (MMC mobile), Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, Memory Stick Duo, Memory Stick Pro Duo, SmartMedia, and xD Picture Card
- 1 line-in, 1 line-out, and 1 microphone
- Audio output: digital audio out, surround sound speakers--rear, side, center
It also has an integrated 56K modem (V.90) and an RJ-45 LAN network port (for a 10/100 Ethernet connection to networks and DSL/cable modems).
Operating System
Windows Vista Home Premium is the operating system for users with advanced computer needs, and it includes all of the Windows Media Center capabilities for turning your PC into an all-in-one home entertainment center for watching DVD movies and accessing your digital audio library. You can also use Windows Media Center to record and watch your favorite TV shows (even HDTV) and to access new kinds of online entertainment content. Computers that include Windows Vista Home Premium and an auxiliary Windows SideShow display will also allow you to access key data even when your computer is off. It is also easier than ever to share files between other PCs in your household and to manage your laptop computer settings to more securely connect via Wi-Fi.
Every edition of Windows Vista provides the essential tools and technologies to help protect you whether you are browsing the Internet, connecting to a wireless network, or just reading e-mail. All editions of Windows Vista include new tools that can warn you of impending hardware failures long before you have lost any important personal data. And, all Windows Vista editions include parental control features that allow you to manage and monitor your family's use of games, the Internet, instant messaging, and other activities.
Preloaded Software
Includes Microsoft Works 8, Microsoft Office Home and Student Edition 2007 Trial, Symantec Norton Internet Security 2007 (with 60 days of Live Update), Roxio Creator/MyDVD (with LightScribe technology), Muvee autoProducer (for creating professional-looking home videos and burning to DVD), HP Photosmart Essential, and HP Total Care Advisor.

Not really happy.......2007-06-27
I got the piece as promised. I loved it's design and features. But just two week later the power supply broke down. Tech support got involve but not working. I couldn't install new power supply. Very difficult to remove & replace power supply in a tiny place. Until now I am still waiting for instruction to send the PC to HP for repair. Not really happy about this...
Good Product.......2007-06-13
I like this product because of its size. It is not too big and easily handleable. It has all the features. Most attractive feature is it's built in wireless connection.
GREAT COMPUTER FOR UNDER $500.......2007-06-07
First, to the person who was ranting about the rebate, check it out. Amazon has updated the dates so everything should be cool.
I've had the computer for about 3 weeks now. Its fine. I have a powerhouse computer in my home office, but needed something small to stick in the built in desk in my kitchen. Mainly for my kids, but also for me when I don't feel like trotting all the way downstairs. Where else can you get a dual core with a gig of memory, wireless Lan, and all the other usual goodies, for under $500. I've had no problems.
To the person who complained about the computer being slow, just know what you are getting into. This computer does not have the fastest processor or fastest graphics card on the market today. Can you do extensive photo or video editing on this computer? No. Can you play the latest graphic intensive games on this comptuer? No, because the graphics card is puny. Can you do word processing and spreadsheets? Absolutely, with no problem. Can you watch videos or listen to CD's? Yes. Can you surf the internet? Yes. Does the wireless Lan work? No problem whatsoever. Picked up my home network the minute I turned the computer on.
So, don't spend less than $500 and expect to have the latest, fastest and best computer out there. For that, plan on spending around $2000. If you want a very capable, very functional, very stylish, very small, and very inexpensive computer for your kids (or to stick in another room), then this is perfect.
Compact, fast, great PC........2007-06-05
First off, I give the PC unit 5 stars, and I give the Vista software 3 stars. This makes an average of 4 stars.
I purchased this unit from CompUSA about 10 days ago and have nothing bad to say about the unit itself. I purchased a 22" LG LCD monitor for it, and the picture is outstanding! I also purchased the HP Pocket media drive that slips right into its own little slot. The unit recognized it instantly and voila, another 80 Gbytes of drive space. The PC unit is compact, fast, and pulls up my programs immediately. If I take 2 15" laptops and place them on top of each other, that is the size of this unit.
The unit has never locked up on me. I've played CD's and DVD's and they play perfectly. The fan is very quiet, and the unit does not build up much heat at all. It took some fumbling around before I could place my CD's and DVD's in the vertical slot, but after a couple of times, no problem.
I do think the Vista OS needs some tweaking here and there, but, mainly minor stuff. But that's a Microsoft issue, not HP. I've had to upgrade some of my favorite software packages to make them Vista compatible, but they were due for an upgrade anyway. I still have Win XP on my 2 laptops and my older desktop. Other things like MS Office 2002 loads and runs perfectly w/o upgrading to Vista. Vista is not very user friendly when trying to hook it into my wireless home network, and I spent a weekend trying to make it see my other units and the printers via wireless. It's all in how you tweak the firewall. But again that is Microsoft, not HP.
Everything is running smoothly now, and I would not hesitate to recommend this product to anyone.
A True Test of Patience.......2007-06-01
I made the mistake of buying this system (not through Amazon though). From power up to login screen is the best I've experienced, but after that the system runs slower than molassis in the arctic. Programs take between 20 seconds and 8 minutes to launch. And that's just solitaire, hardly a memory hog. I don't expect instant gratification, but when all tasks take minutes to accomplish, it's hardly productive. I'm not a power user or an avid gamer.
It's not unusual to have to power off the system by pulling the power cord. It freezes solid and refuses to respond.
Plus, don't do anything while running virus or anti-spam scanners. It's even slower than normal.
I also own an HP laptop. I will never buy another HP computer again, they are (to keep it clean) worthless. I think their target audience is the elderly who have the patience to wait hours for something to get done.

Big let down.......2007-05-24
This unit did literally nothing. Ok, actually, the tray opened up - but that's it! I attempted to contact HP's support group on multiple occasions and received no response at all. I tried web searches on multiple websites and found nothing. The user manual did not help me troubleshoot. I even called Dell's tech support twice and they spent forever on the phone trying to troubleshoot with me, but even they couldn't find documentation that would help me make this silly thing work.
In short...I returned it.
HP Lightscribe Burner.......2007-05-13
The burner really does a nice job. It creates discs that look professional. With the titles burned onto the disc, there is never any doubt as to what is on the disc. I removed an old drive and installed this in its place. I then installed the software and was burning discs in less that 1 hour start to finish. Really nice product.........
Excellent.......2007-05-12
I already had a HP 840i, but my dvd player drive was misreporting file sizes, Instalation was quick and easy, and NERO software works well.
Nice Product. Thank you........2007-05-07
The product was delivered as specified in the sale. Thank you.
Great!.......2007-02-20
This is a great item. I got it because my built in DVD-RW broke. I love the lightscribe feature. The quality is great.

The Basics
- Processor: The Intel Core 2 Duo T5300 processor has a 1.73 GHz processor speed, fast 533 MHz front-side bus (FSB), and large 2 MB L2 cache. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.)
The Intel Core 2 Duo processor has two computational execution cores in a single processor, providing greater system response when running multi-threaded applications simultaneously with no significant increase in power consumption. It's optimized for multitasking and is ready to support the Microsoft Windows Vista operating system. It can simultaneously run multiple demanding applications--such as graphics-intensive games or serious number-crunching business productivity applications--while downloading music or running virus-scanning security programs in the background. Some of the advanced Intel innovations of the Core 2 Duo processor include:
- Smart Memory Access: Improves system performance by hiding memory latency, thus optimizing the use of available computer data bandwidth to provide data to the processor when and where it is needed.
- Advanced Digital Media Boost: Effectively doubles the execution speed for instructions used widely in multimedia and graphics applications.
- Dynamic Power Coordination: Coordinates Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology and idle power-management state (C-states) transitions independently per core to help save power.
- Deeper Sleep with Dynamic Cache Sizing: Saves power by flushing cache data to system memory during periods of inactivity to lower CPU voltage.
- Hard Drive: The 160 GB hard drive (5400 RPM) offers enough to room to hold a digital audio library of over 26,000 songs and still have room left over for movies, games, and a large collection of software. This Serial ATA (SATA) hard drive also quickens the pace with a higher speed transfer of data--akin to FireWire and USB 2.0.
It features 4x DVD-R DL Write Once, 2.4x DVD+R DL Write Once, 8x DVD+R, 4x DVD+RW, 8x DVD-R, 4x DVD-RW, 16x DVD-ROM, 40x CD-R, 24x CD-RW, and 40x CD-ROM speeds.
- Keyboard & Mouse: This notebook has a 101-key keyboard and a touchpad with on/off button and dedicated vertical/horizontal Scroll Up/Down pad. It also includes two quick-launch buttons (HP QuickPlay Music and DVD).
Screen, Video & Audio

Customer Reviews:
WOWed.......2007-04-29
First of all, when you first take this thing out of the box, it's very good looking. With the shiny lid, and a sleek look, it's just beautiful.
I want to try to start a pros/cons list, and update it everytime i find something new. Just so you're aware, i got this with Windows Vista Home Premium on it, and it was JUST fine. I was one of those people who was like "I'M GONNA DOWNGRADE TO XP!!" But never, when i use my desktop, i feel old using XP, lol.
Pros:
- VERY good looking
- 1.3 mp webcam
- Nice mousepad buttons
- Touch quick buttons (have a con though)
- DVD writer
- 2 integrated mics
- 2 headphone jacks
- Not heavy (has a con)
- Has a remote (for all the lazy people - only works for media center though)
- Centrino
- Intel Core 2 Duo processor
- 160 GB space
- 1 GB RAM
Cons:
- Quick buttons beep when you touch them, and there's no way of muting them.
- Not light
- Speakers misplaced, when you close lid sound becomes unclear
- Lid is fingerprint hog
- 3 usb ports (i always thought a computer must have a minimum of 4 usbs)
- 1.73 ghz processor
- Short battery life
- Does not have bluetooth!!
That's all i can think of right now. But this laptop is 100% recommended.
HP Service is Pathetic.......2007-04-27
I have HP DV6275 as well as HP dv1000 and dV2000. I have been using DELL, Toshiba, IBM and Panasonic laptops for the last several years and bought HP Laptops primarily to create diversity in my office after using other makes. And what a big mistake I made - regret is not the word that can describe how bad I feel about buying these pieces of absolute junks from HP!!
First, a new HP laptop looks quite "shiny" and that is the only good thing one can say about them after using them. HP laptops are slow compared to other make despite having core 2 duo or Core Duo at 1.83 Mhz and 2 GB memory on my models (check CNET review and it will confirm this observation.). They take abnormally long time to start and lock up as and whenever they want. HP supplies no re-install CD, installs a lot of unwanted garbage, and takes substantial portion of your disk space for creating the recovery disk (just in case your o/s gets fried ).
The story of my HP dv1000 bought in April 2006 is particularly bad, and exemplifies how bad HP as a consumer company is. My DV1000 started having problem after about six months of very light use as its battery charger will not make contact with the laptop pin, and when it did connect, it will continue flipping between battery and electricity charge. It has been a nightmare to make this laptop work and even my children refused to do any thing with this laptop. At times, the laptop pin wouldn't make contacts with the battery adapter no matter how much you tried - there was some internal flaw in the motherboard design that would stop from battery being charged. I left my laptop on power for the whole night for charging it, made sure that it shows connected (!) and in the morning battery will be without any charge leaving me on my flights and in meetings without any battery charge. I struggled in meetings to keep this laptop ON when I needed it to work. This intermittent problems have kept me from using it for any critical function. There is class action lawsuit link by a law firm on CNET about this.
The worst part of it is HP is horrendous attitude to the customer service. Getting service from HP has been an absolute nightmare. My laptop is with them from mid-march and after over one and half month, and hundreds of emails to HP's CEO using [...] link and many calls to HP's support center (read Indian call centers), I still don't have my laptop back from them, and have no idea if and when I will get it back. I have lost access to all data, emails, and software purchased and installed on that PC forever. In addition, I wasted more than 15 days time in trying to get my laptop back from them with no success. HP doesn't respond to your emails and doesn't care if you are without your laptop for months. They keep your laptop for months without providing any feedback for the so called "lack of components". In meantime, your warranty clock continues running. Dealing with clueless support staff in India is a big issue in itself. They waste your time going over a canned script given to them without having any authority to resolve any issue. I am not alone just about everyone is having horrible experience with HP service (they have my laptops only for about two months so far, but others have written even much worst experiences.).
I would say stay away from HP. You are buying nothing but pain - there are better choices. HP as a company is toast from my list of companies with whom I would like to ever do business again.

This notebook also features a 160 GB hard drive, 2 GB of installed RAM (maxing out capacity), built-in 54g Wi-Fi connectivity (802.11b/g), multi-format/dual-layer LightScribe DVD+/-RW drive (which also burns CDs), ExpressCard slot, and NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 video/graphics card. It comes preinstalled with Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium, which includes all of the Windows Media Center capabilities for turning your PC into an all-in-one home entertainment center. Vista also integrates new search tools throughout the operating system, includes new parental control features, and offers new tools that can warn you of impending hardware failures.
The Basics
- Processor: The 1.8 GHz AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-56 processor offers a dual-core architecture, which delivers additional computing resources to help expand your PC's capabilities by providing higher throughput and simultaneous computing--increasing your performance by up to 80 percent. You'll be able to perform multiple tasks such as digital rendering and gaming all while running virus scan or other background tasks seamlessly thanks to the innovative Direct Connect Architecture. And it's designed to handle simultaneous 32- and 64-bit computing with no degradation in performance. You'll enjoy long battery life thanks to the AMD PowerNow! power management technology, which delivers performance on demand and can extend system battery life up to 65 percent. And the AMD Digital Media XPress technology delivers stellar multimedia performance and playback on digital entertainment such as games, streaming video and audio, DVDs, and music.
Each processing core has a 512 KB L2 cache (for a 1 MB total), and this processor can deliver up to a 1600 MHz system bus for lightning quick computing reflexes. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.)
- Memory: The 2 GB of built-in memory maximizes the capacity of this notebook, which is par for the course for multimedia-centric laptops (though small in comparison to multimedia-oriented desktops). But you'll be able to handle immersive 3-D video games, video editing, graphics-intensive presentations, and multiple open business productivity applications right out of the box.
- DVD/CD Drive: This multiformat DVD/CD drive is compatible with writing both DVD+ and DVD- disc formats as well as dual-layer (DL) DVD+/-R discs, which can store up to 8.5 GB of data. It features 4x DVD-R DL Write Once, 2.4x DVD+R DL Write Once, 8x DVD+R, 4x DVD+RW, 8x DVD-R, 4x DVD-RW, 16x DVD-ROM, 40x CD-R, 24x CD-RW, and 40x CD-ROM speeds.
You'll enjoy razor-sharp graphics and widescreen movies with the 15.4-inch WXGA high-definition screen, which displays an 18 percent larger picture than standard 15-inch screens and offers up to an 18 percent improvement in contrast ratio. It has a widescreen resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels--perfect for watching DVD movies the way they were meant to be seen. Video is powered by an integrated Nvidia GeForce 6150 graphics/video card with up to 288 MB of shared video memory. It features NVidia's PureVideo technology--which provides great picture clarity, smooth video, accurate color, and precise image scaling for video content--and full support for Microsoft DirectX 9.0 for stunningly realistic cinematic effects for all DirectX-compatible applications. It also offers an integrated audio card and built-in Altec Lansing speakers.

Customer Reviews:
Good Notebook for the price.......2007-06-21
This notebook from HP is geared towards the entertainment. The display is excellent and offers a good entertainment experience. Comes with webcam integrated for the video chats and have LightScribe enabled burner (along with the software) which helps burning images with the same laser on to the Lightscribe compatible CD/DVDs. The 2GB RAM is good in providing a good Windows Vista Aero experience. It runs without any hitch. On the down side, the included battery life is terrible. It doesn't stay for more than an hour. This notebook also heats up badly. I wouldn't recommend this for heavy use. Also, the Wifi option included (Broadcom) isn't compatible with my Linksys WRT54GL router.
Weighing the pros and cons, I think this would be a decent purchase if the purpose of your purchase is entertainment and you aren't intending this for everyday heavy usage (as in the case of mine).
Super machine.......2007-06-08
I have been wanting a laptop for a long time and I am soooo pleased with this one. I use it for my photography, able to take it everywhere with me. It has a nice screen and Vista is pretty kewl. Still learning but looking forward to many years of service...........

The Basics
- Processor: AMD's Athlon 64 X2 5200+ dual-core processor is built for tomorrow's 64-bit applications, which will require a processor with significant power.
This 2.6 GHz processor offers a system bus with speeds up to a blazing 2000 MHz and each core offers a 1 MB L2 cache--for a 2 MB total. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.)
- Hard Drive: The incredibly huge 500 GB Serial ATA (SATA) hard drive (7200 RPM) offers a wealth of storage space--enough for storing up to 305 hours of television programming, a vast multimedia collection, or for editing digital video. This SATA hard drive also quickens the pace with a higher speed transfer of data--akin to FireWire and USB 2.0.
- Memory: The 2 GB of built-in memory (2 x 1024 MB, PC4200, DDR2 SDRAM) is a good start right out of the box, and it offers a very fast 533 MHz speed. This desktop has a 8 GB maximum RAM capacity (8 x 1 GB), perfect for high-def video and 3-D gaming.
- DVD/CD Drive: This multiformat DVD/CD drive is compatible with writing both DVD+ and DVD- disc formats as well as dual-layer (DL) DVD+/-R discs, which can store up to 8.5 GB of data. It features 4x DVD-R DL Write Once, 8x DVD+R DL Write Once, 16x DVD+R, 8x DVD+RW, 16x DVD-R, 6x DVD-RW, 5x DVD-RAM, 40x CD-R, 32x CD-RW write speeds and 40x CD-ROM, and 16x DVD-ROM read speeds.

Amazon.com Product Description
Designed for fast access to your entire entertainment library, the HP Pavilion dv6325us notebook PC is a great choice for both families and business travelers on the go. The 15.4-inch high-definition BrightView display looks good even in direct sunlight, and you'll enjoy movies or music in seconds with the external DVD or music buttons to launch HP QuickPlay (which bypasses the boot process). Control playback settings from up to 10 feet away with the included HP remote, then store it conveniently in the Express card slot. Easily manage your digital photo library and share with friends and family using the included HP Photosmart Premier software. This stylish laptop also features a high-gloss, durable HP Imprint finish with an inlaid design.
It's powered by the 64-bit 1.6 GHz AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-52 processor (with 1 MB L2 cache), which allows you to easily run multiple programs without slowing down your productivity. This notebook also features a 120 GB hard drive, 1 GB of installed RAM (2 GB maximum), built-in 54g Wi-Fi connectivity (802.11b/g), multi-format/dual-layer LightScribe DVD+/-RW drive (which also burns CDs), ExpressCard slot, and NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 video/graphics card.
It comes preinstalled with Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium, which includes all of the Windows Media Center capabilities for turning your PC into an all-in-one home entertainment center. In addition to easily playing your DVD movies and managing your digital audio library, you'll be able to record and watch your favorite TV shows (even HDTV). Vista also integrates new search tools throughout the operating system, includes new parental control features, and offers new tools that can warn you of impending hardware failures.
The Basics
- Processor: The 1.6 GHz AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-52 processor offers a dual-core architecture, which delivers additional computing resources to help expand your PC's capabilities by providing higher throughput and simultaneous computing--increasing your performance by up to 80 percent.
- Hard Drive: The 120 GB hard drive (5400 RPM) offers enough to room to hold a digital audio library of over 20,000 songs and still have room left over for movies, games, and a large collection of software. This Serial ATA (SATA) hard drive also quickens the pace with a higher speed transfer of data--akin to FireWire and USB 2.0.
It features 4x DVD-R DL Write Once, 2.4x DVD+R DL Write Once, 8x DVD+R, 4x DVD+RW, 8x DVD-R, 4x DVD-RW, 16x DVD-ROM, 40x CD-R, 24x CD-RW, and 40x CD-ROM speeds.
Networking, Connectivity & Expansion
This notebook has an integrated 54g wireless LAN that's fully compatible with 802.11b/g wireless networks. It also includes a next-generation ExpressCard 54/34 card slot (though no standard PCMCIA slot), which lets you take advantage of thinner, faster, and lighter expansion cards for even more advanced wireless, networking, storage, and security features. You get a good offering of connectivity options:

I Have had this laptop for about two weeks , I love it . Clear picture , great sound . I am learning Vista , I have had no problems with it at all . I have had no problems with the computer , its fast and relible .
Great as an entertainment laptop and great price for it . I love its look , has a nice disign to it . I would suggest it to anyone .I would say the only thing is you might want to look into getting the extended life battery for it ...laptops use a lot of power , battery last about two hours tops that comes with it . Still a great buy .
Beautiful Laptop. Some issues with Windows Vista........2007-05-24
I absolutely love the laptop. I think HP did a really great job with the way the laptop appears, but the software is just totally wack. Vista is cool idea, but I've had problems with it. The computer screen kept freezing on me, the screen would turn off & on, I'd have to wait until the computer shuts down completely before I close the screen, & it just sucked. I am now waiting for UPS to pick it up so I can get a different one. Like I said, the computer itself is beautiful, but maybe get a different software.

It provides an optimized, multithreaded architecture for improved gaming and multitasking performance. This notebook also features a 120 GB hard drive, 1 GB of installed RAM (2 GB maximum capacity), built-in tri-mode Wi-Fi connectivity (802.11a/b/g), multi-format/dual-layer LightScribe DVD+/-RW drive (which also burns CDs), ExpressCard slot, and Intel GMA 950 graphics card. It also has an integrated 1.3-megapixel WebCam (and integrated microphone), enabling easy video conferencing via VoIP and video IM chats.

Vista also integrates new search tools throughout the operating system, includes new parental control features, and offers new tools that can warn you of impending hardware failures.
The Basics
- Processor: The Intel Core Duo T2350 processor is built with the Mobile Intel 945PM Express chipset, and it has a 1.86 GHz processor speed, fast 533 MHz front-side bus (FSB), and large 2 MB L2 cache. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.)
The Intel Core Duo processor has two computational execution cores in a single processor, providing greater system response when running multi-threaded applications simultaneously with no significant increase in power consumption. It's optimized for multitasking and is ready to support the next version of Microsoft Windows, code-named Vista. It can simultaneously run multiple demanding applications--such as graphics-intensive games or serious number-crunching business productivity applications--while downloading music or running virus-scanning security programs in the background. It's more efficient, thanks to Intel's Power Coordination and Deeper Sleep, which help to transfer power only to those areas of the processor that need it. It also features Intel's Digital Media Boost, which delivers enhanced performance on floating point-intensive applications such as CAD tools, 3-D and 2-D modeling, video editing, digital music, digital photography and gaming.
- Hard Drive: The 120 GB hard drive (5400 RPM) offers enough to room to hold a digital audio library of over 20,000 songs and still have room left over for movies, games, and a large collection of software.

You can watch, record, and pause live TV programming as well as schedule the PC to record upcoming episodes or entire series. The built-in TV tuner (providing both standard NTSC and high-def ATSC transmission) and personal video recorder (PVR) let you watch, pause, rewind, and record live television--up to 390 hours on the dual 320 GB hard drives (for a 640 GB total). And you can easily burn TV shows and home video to DVD for friends and family with the dual-layer, multi-format LightScribe DVD/CD burner, which enables you to store up to 8.5 GB of data on a DL disc. LightScribe technology burns custom, silkscreen-quality labels and artwork directly onto LightScribe-enabled discs, right inside the drive.
This desktop is powered by the 2.13 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo E6420 dual-core processor, which provides an optimized, multithreaded architecture for improved gaming and multitasking performance. A built-in drive bay fits an optional HP Personal Media Drive (PMD), for up to 500 GB of additional storage that you can carry away with you when you go (PMD not included). It also features 2 GB of installed RAM (8 GB maximum), Nvidia GeForce 7350 LE video card (with 128 MB of video memory), 15-in-1 memory card reader, up to 8 channels of surround sound output, and a remote control with up to 16 feet of range.
This PC also comes preinstalled with Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium, which includes all of the Windows Media Center capabilities for turning your PC into an all-in-one home entertainment center. In addition to easily playing your DVD movies and managing your digital audio library, you'll be able to record and watch your favorite TV shows (even HDTV). Vista also integrates new search tools throughout the operating system, includes new parental control features, and offers new tools that can warn you of impending hardware failures.
The Basics
- Processor: The Intel Core 2 Duo E6420 processor has a 2.13 GHz processor speed, amazing 1066 MHz front-side bus (FSB), and an extra-large 4 MB L2 cache.
This processor also includes Intel's Viiv technology, which enables you to quickly turn the PC on and off (after initial boot) with a touch of the included remote thanks to Intel's Quick Resume function. It also offers specially-designed software that makes network configuration easy, for connecting to portable media players, DVD players, TV sets and stereos.
- Hard Drive: The dual 320 GB Serial ATA (SATA) hard drives (7200 RPM) provide an astounding 640 GB storage capacity--enough for storing up to 390 hours of television programming, a vast multimedia collection, or for editing digital video. These SATA hard drives also quicken the pace with a higher speed transfer of data--akin to FireWire and USB 2.0.
- Keyboard & Mouse: This desktop comes with a wireless HP multimedia keyboard and wireless optical mouse (with up to a 16-foot range) as well as a remote control.
Video & Audio
Video is powered by the Nvidia GeForce 7350 LE, which features 128 MB of dedicated graphics memory and can provide up to 400 MB of total available graphics memory as allocated by Windows Vista.
For expansion, this desktop features a drive bay that fits an optional HP Personal Media Drive--which enables you to add 500 GB of storage for your video and music libraries. It has three PCI expansion slots (occupied), one PCI x16 Express slot (available), two 5.25-inch bays (one available), one 3.5-inch bay (occupied), and the following external ports:
- 6 USB 2.0 ports for connecting a wide range of peripherals--from digital cameras to MP3 players (2 in front, 4 in rear)

Reasonalby nice monster.......2007-06-24
Got one of these boys about 2 months ago. Has many good possibilities, Vista is a pain, more updates than spam, doesn't recognize numerous programs and hardware. Overall Vista is pretty good. H.P. tech support needs their own tech support. If you can understand them they can't help and tell you to call back in the day and talk to a tech? There backup disc system has some type of problem, I spent 8.5 hrs doing a system backup(?)only to come up with a blank disc ( dvd dl ).They don't have a clue. Ran a check on all drives and they checked out. They don't know why I can't get into sleep mode, by keyboard shortcut or menu bar.Machine shuts down and goes into the sleep mode but boots right up again, changed settings manually but no help.I like the machine but there's a lot of bugs to work on. The 640g harddrive is 2 320's. I also have to agree on another comment about the do it all dvd dr, it is a little on the cheap end. Only thing it comes with is a quick set up guide, no backup discs for anything, I got lucky when I talked to them the other day, they're sending a set of backups(oh boy, something free...)
Great Computer -Vista Compatibility Problems Bad.......2007-05-23
I recently bought this HP computer from Amazon with great delivery time. I am very disapointed with the Vista operating program compatibility with not being able to use programs and hardware from my old HP computer. An existing great quality HP 5370C scanner not only won't work with Vista but HP advised me that they were sorry but there would be no support in the future to use this scanner with Vista and that I should "consider upgrading to a newer HP product". My new HP Pavilion Vista computer will not accept my Broderbond "The Print Shop" a popular program that I use daily and was told by Broderbond that they did not even have a version of The Print Shop available yet for Vista users. My existing Pinnacle movie program will not operate in Vista.
I phoned HP customer service and asked them if there was any way I could get XP software in place of the Visa program in their new computer and they said "no". I felt they should at least set up a procedure for new computer purchasers to get XP with some sort of discount that they can use until equipment and software designs catch up with Vista's advanced marketing.
The Visa system itself appears to be a great program for what I can observe so far but let the buyer beware that the compatibility with programs and hardware from their old computer can be expensive and impossible to use many cases. I am dissapointed that Microsoft and HP haven't made this information more available but then they appear to be looking out for their interest and cerainly haven't properly warned the new Vista users of this probable problem.
Lack of upgradeability - Owner Beware.......2007-05-20
As desktop computers go, this is an excellent computer when ran out of the box. I've had great experience with the machine since I bought it last month from BestBuy. However, you can run into upgrade problems in several areas. I first ran into an issue in attempting to upgrade to an nVidia GeForce 8800 GTS graphics card. This is the first card to support DirectX 10 for graphics and gaming which is the native DirectX on Vista. So to experience all that Vista has to offer in that area, I needed the right card that understood the technology.
To run the card, requires at least a 400W power supply whereas the computer comes with 300W. I purchased a Antec 500W power supply from CompUSA since that is what they had available at the time I purchased the card (a PNY model from CompUSA). I switched out the power supplies setting the cables in all the proper places. That went fairly okay except the main power input on the motherboard is situated in such a way that it takes anywhere from 10 - 30 minutes to set due to the deterity required to move the connector in place. Definitely not designed for easy swap. Disconnecting the connector from the original power supply was just as difficult.
Eventually I got all of the components connected to the new power supply, but had an issue with the second hard drive since they planted it squarely on the bottom of the computer base. Motherboard layouts sure have changed quite a bit in the last several years. I had to remove the TV Tuner card to make this last connection, took about an hour after that to make the connection since the length between SATA hard drive power connectors was a hair of an exact length between the first connector to the first hard drive and the second one on the bottom. These connectors are on the same cable. There are two cables with two SATA connectors and an alternate configuration would not have worked.
Anyway, with all of the power connections to the existing components done, I proceeded to install the graphics card. The first problem is that the graphics card is twice the length and double the height of any previous graphics card that I've seen come with computers over the years. A thick card that means you have to give up a slot. The card doesn't use two slots, it only connects to one slot but it is high enough to take up the space covering a second slot so that the second open slot is unavailable to other components. The length of the card was also a problem in this computer where all the components are arrange in such a way that there is barely room. One online source stated that even if the card was successfully installed, there could be cooling issue as a result of the space consumed.
I eventually had to temporarily remove the TV tuner card that came with the computer to more easily slot in the card. When I re-inserted the TV tuner card, I noticed that it left only a 2 - 5cm space between the top of the TV tuner card and the bottom of the nVidia fan/fin cooling case. Finally I connected the PCI-E power cable to the card and was ready to test.
Anyway, none of this mattered because after 3 hours of work, the computer would not power on. After several tries, I decided to switch power cords going into the power supply from the outside. I had one coming from an uninterruptible power supply and one from a normal surge protector. No change. I double checked all the connections. By this time it was 4 in the morning and I decided to give it a rest.
When I woke up, I still had a computer that wouldn't power on. I decided that I needed to get my computer working again. I restored the computer to it's original configuration and put back the old power supply. No problems there and everything is working as before (hence this review). I then set about doing something I should have done before. I called HP. I told them my goal as to the graphics card and what I had done with the power supply. They told me that the computer's motherboard only support up to a maximum of 350W. I simply said thank you and moved to my next option. I called the Geek Squad at Best Buy since that's were I bought the computer from. I initially told them my goal and they said it shouldn't be a problem to upgrade and that they upgrade that model all the time. Then I told them what I had done previously and what the HP technician told me and they said they don't know why they told me that (regarding the power supply) but that they are probably right. I asked about returning the computer but I was past the 14 days.
My original goal was to have a computer with great graphics and most of the other good features of a computer at a bargain price. I thought about getting a great overall model and then upgrading only those aspects I needed. HP consumer model computers do not seem to be ameniable to this approach. Due to the time, money spent, and disappointment I would have been better off with a less expensive DELL model that great components as to graphics, power and processor that I could upgrade in terms of more commonly compatible and available components such as memory and hard drives. That's assuming that going from SATA to SAS hard drives would be any easier. Perhaps not but there are more options in that area as opposed to limits on power supply and expansion card headroom/cooling.
Perhaps eventually, the HP model that I am stuck with will benefit from newer graphics cards that support later technologies on lower power, but if not, it is an expensive lesson learned. One of the reasons you buy desktops over laptops is the expandability and if that is becoming less a possibility, then I would guess experiences like this could steer more consumers towards laptops higher in expense than their desktop counterparts.
Though I'd like for the graphics card I bought to work, I will be researching the ATI 2900 cards to see if they are less in physical surface area and power requirements. Regardless, I'll be returning the nVidia Card and the power supply (since I bought them yesterday) if I can.

Access to all your peripherals is made easy with 2 USB ports and microphone/headphone jacks in the front--as well as a 15-in-1 memory card reader.
Other features include a 3.0 GHz Intel Pentium D 925 dual-core processor, Intel GMA 950 video/graphics card with 32 GB of dedicated video RAM (and up to 224 MB of total shared graphics memory), and an included keyboard and scroller mouse. It comes preinstalled with Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic, which delivers a safer, more reliable, and more productive computing environment. Vista integrates new search tools throughout the operating system, includes new parental control features, and offers new tools that can warn you of impending hardware failures.
The Basics
- Processor: The 3.0 GHz Intel Pentium D 925 dual-core processor delivers additional computing resources and help expand the PC's capabilities by providing higher throughput and simultaneous computing. You'll be able to perform multiple tasks such as digital rendering and gaming all while running virus scan or other background tasks seamlessly. Each core has 2 MB of L2 cache onboard (for a 4 MB total), and the two cores share an 800 MHz front-side bus.
- Memory: The 1 GB of installed RAM (PC4200, 2 x 512 MB, 533 MHz) is a good start, but you'll want to add more RAM to handle today's demanding multimedia and productivity suites. This desktop has a good 2 GB maximum RAM capacity (2 x 1 GB). Also, to receive the benefits of the dual-channel DDR2 RAM, any RAM additions require memory modules of same capacity and clockspeed.
- Keyboard & Mouse: It comes with a Compaq keyboard and scroller mouse (both with PS/2 connections).
Video & Audio
Video is powered by the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950, which uses Intel Dynamic Video Memory Technology (DVMT) and provides 32 MB of dedicated graphics memory. Windows Vista can also allocate up to 224 MB of total graphics memory from the system memory. It also has an integrated audio card that can produce high definition surround sound configurable to 8 speakers.

AVOID.......2007-06-27
I made the mistake of buying an HP/Compaq system. For the price I don't expect mainframe performance, but I didn't expect the headaches I got. HP/Compaq is a good company, so I don't know why they put their name on this. It hangs a lot. Several times a week I have to pull the power cord to reboot it when it hangs; even holding down the power button for a long time doesn't power it off. The card reader wiped my vacation photos from Rome. The system has 1GB of memory that is shared with the video. Big mistake! It's not enough to run Vista properly and has to use the virtual memory on the hard drive to do everything. The result is a lot of noise as it accesses the hard drive, severely hampered performance, and a lag of several minutes (up to 10, if ever) to launch even some of the simplest programs. I expect the hard drive to burn out any day now. I will never buy a system built by HP/Compaq ever again.
GREAT COMPUTER FOR THE PRICE.......2007-05-20
I'VE ALWAYS BOUGHT TOP OF THE LINE MODELS OF COMPUTERS IN THE PAST AND I DIDN'T WANT TO SPEND A LOT THIS TIME AND "SETTLED" ON THIS ONE. IT HAD THE MOST FEATURES FOR THE MONEY AND I AM NOT DISSAPOINTED AT ALL. IT HAS ENOUGH MEMORY FOR MP3'S AND PICTURES AND THE LIGHTSCRIBE CDR IS AWESOME. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS COMPUTER. I'VE READ ON SOME REVIEWS THAT VISTA WASN'T COMPATIBLE WITH PRINTERS, ETC. BUT I HAVEN'T HAD THAT PROBLEM. EVERYTHING WORKED IMMEDIATELY AFTER BEING PLUGGED IN. IT ISN'T SLOW, ALTHOUGH I'M SURE IT IS COMPARED TO THE TOP OF THE LINE MODELS. THE ONLY COMPLAINT I HAVE IS THAT IT IS LOUD AT TIMES. BY THAT I MEAN YOU CAN HEAR THE CPU RUNNING. BUT OVERALL, A GREAT DEAL.

Weighing in at 5.4 pounds, it travels easily and it provides a cool, modern look with a high-gloss durable finish and inlaid design inspired by Zen rock gardens as well as touch-sensitive media controls. Latch-free, the mechanical closure, unique speaker grill pattern, and color-saturated LED indicator lights further enhance this sophisticated design. It offers a widescreen, BrightView 14-inch display, which provides improved viewing in direct sunlight. Control settings for audio and video playback from up to 10 feet away with the included HP remote, then store it conveniently in the PC card slot. Enjoy movies or music in seconds with the external DVD or music buttons to launch HP QuickPlay (which bypasses the boot process).
Optimized for mobile performance, it's powered by the 1.8 GHz AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-56 dual-core processor, which offers 64-bit computing capability and higher throughput for simultaneous computing tasks. Other features include a large 160 GB hard drive, 2 GB of installed RAM (maximizing capacity), 54g Wi-Fi LAN (802.11b/g), multi-format/dual-layer DVD drive (which can also burn CDs), Nvidia GeForce Go 6150 video card with up to 288 MB of shared video memory, multi-format memory card reader, and integrated Webcam for easy video conferencing.
While this notebook is actually as wide as standard 15-inch displays, the high-definition, widescreen 14-inch display (1280 x 800-pixel resolution) has the same form factor as a 12-inch screen--taking up less space on your desk. Video is powered by the integrated Nvidia GeForce Go 6150 graphics/video card, which provides up to 288 MB of video memory shared with the system memory. It features Nvidia's PureVideo technology--which provides great picture clarity, smooth video, accurate color, and precise image scaling for video content--and full support for Microsoft DirectX 9.0 for stunningly realistic cinematic effects for all DirectX-compatible applications. The built-in Altec Lansing speakers provide exceptional sound.
The Altec Lansing speakers provide exceptional sound, and a pair of stereo earbud headphones with volume controls is included. You'll be able to privately share enjoyment of multimedia with a friend via the dual headphone jacks. One of the headphone jacks is also compatible with SPDIF digital audio output for home theater surround sound.
Networking, Connectivity & Expansion
This notebook has an integrated 54g wireless LAN that's fully compatible with 802.11b/g wireless networks. It also includes a next-generation ExpressCard 54/34 card slot (replacing the PCMCIA slot), which lets you take advantage of thinner, faster, and lighter expansion cards for even more advanced wireless, networking, storage, and security features. You get a very good offering of connectivity options, which includes both super-fast USB 2.0 and FireWire:
- 3 USB 2.0 ports for connecting a wide range of peripherals--from digital cameras to MP3 players

notebook is OK actually a little slow and difficulty downloading some program (DOS based) and VISTA is terrible compared to XP Pro. Avoid Vista if possible and use XP Pro
A powerful and well-designed laptop with nice features.......2007-03-24
I have been searching for a laptop for one month, finally I decided to purchase this model. As a software engineer, my requirements are:
1. Powerful and fast enough to handle resource-intensive applications such as Photoshop CS [...]
2. Small enough for carrying around as well as big enough for viewing. (13 inches - 14.1 inches is the best for me )
3. Cheap enough since I will replace it with a new one after 3 - 5 years. [...]
I was considering a Sony Vaio SZ series since my friend who is also a programmer bought one and very satisfied with it. It is very good laptop, powerful, extreme light-weight, very nice looking and solid design. However, it doesn't meet my third requirement. It costs almost $2000 with the same configuration as the HP Pavilion DV2220US. Then, I found this DV2220US, it has the specification I wanted and it cost only a half price of the sony one. HP laptop's design is not as good as Sony's, but it much better than Dell, also Dell laptop with same specification at least costs $1600 even with promotion.
I have intensively used this laptop at work and at home for a few day ( over 10 hours per day ). I am totally satisfied with my this purchase. Bottom line, this is a powerful, fast laptop with nice configurations and very low price. It is not only for casual user but also for professionals.
Very nice little entertainment box.......2007-03-05
I grabbed the HP DV2220US after squeezing the life out my trusty old HP Pavilion N5425 (all of my travels have taken their toll - thanks TSA for the drops). The new unit is considerably lighter than the old Pavilion and definitely has a ton of nice new features. My ONLY picks with the DV2220US: 1. it does not have a PCMCIA card (would have been nice to keep using some older gear) and 2. *my* battery only lasts an hour with light use. I also have one picky bit with how HP handles the load disk issue - they don't. You get a partition on the HD that contains the rescue image AND you get to make *ONE* set of rescue CDs/DVDs (whichever you choose). No Vista Premium disk is present in your package...
Otherwise, I have suggested this unit to friends who are looking for a good laptop for a reasonable price.
Oh, and it runs Linux wonderfully (wink).
Great features small sexy package!!!!.......2007-02-20
I just bought the dv2221us, which is the same as this except for it comes w/ vista business (I got anxious and couldn't wait for this one to come out) Windows vista is great, easy to use and really looks and works amazing. the laptop has great speed, huge amount of storage and plenty of extras, not to mention the small form factor for ultimate portibility. The display is also great!
the only con so far is the high gloss finish does lend itself to fingerprints, but it comes with a cloth to clean it.
many many pro's. and the light scribe drive is so nice, write attractive labels so you know what's on every disc and don't have to worry about permanant marker smudges
