Amazon.com Review

If you're looking for a cordless phone that will operate without a lot of interference, check out the Panasonic KXTG2400B. Its twin-band transmission design uses two different frequencies, 2.4 GHz on the base and 900 MHz on the handset, minimizing static and providing you with clear conversation even at long range.

The base of the Panasonic KXTG2400B is designed with two antennae, one for transmitting and one for receiving. Although this system cannot be mounted on your wall, it does give your calls crisp, clean sound. It also allows you to use the phone anywhere in your house as well as outside with minimal interference. If you do encounter static, simply press the channel button to find a clearer channel in your location. The high-capacity NiMH battery lets you talk for eight hours away from the base and lasts up to 14 days on standby.

The sturdy, shock-resistant handset has a standard button layout along with a large Navigator button, which essentially serves as four buttons in one. Press the upper and lower portions of the Navigator button for ringer and volume, and the left and right sides for program and auto functions. The program function gives you access to memory dialing and other special features. We found the auto function somewhat awkward, however. It's needed only to select the dialing mode (tone/pulse) and to store numbers in memory, and for both of these tasks we thought Panasonic should have used a more intuitive button (a Memory button for example). While the functions of the Navigator button do not necessarily relate to each other and could just as easily have been separate buttons, it does nevertheless minimize clutter on the handset.

Storing a phone number in memory is not as intuitive as other phones we've tested because there is no Memory button, but the easy-to-read owner's manual explains the task in just a few steps. We pressed the left side of the Navigator button (program), entered a phone number, pressed the right side of the Navigator button (auto), and selected a station number between 0 and 9. A beep let us know our phone number had been stored. To dial the stored number, we pressed the auto function and then the station number. There is also a Direct button that dials a phone number with the touch of only one button rather than two. Since you can only store one number at a time in the direct function, we found it rather unnecessary, but it may be useful for a frequently dialed or emergency number.

The Panasonic KXTG2400B also offers a handset locator, Flash button for call waiting services, and battery status indicators. With its well-chosen suite of features and its interference-free transmission, the Panasonic KXTG2400 makes a good all-around choice for basic home use. --Emily Bakko

Amazon.com Product Description

The Panasonic KX-TG2400B is one of the GigaRange Extreme phones. Twin-band transmission, coupled with rugged design, allows you to take your conversations outdoors. Panasonic also has included a 2.5 millimeter headset jack and belt clip for hands-free operation. With an optional headset connected to this phone, you're free to engage in activities that require the use of two hands. And when you're not using your 2.4 GHz phone, its small design enables you to simply slip it into your pocket.

Panasonic 2.4 GHz GigaRange Extreme cordless phones utilize spread spectrum technology (SST) in both the 2.4 GHz and 900 MHz bands. Cordless phones with SST have greater output power than regular cordless phones because they transmit over the entire bandwidth, constantly changing frequency. This increased power dramatically boosts range.

These 2.4 GHz GigaRange Extreme SST cordless phones employ the use of two different frequencies, 2.4 GHz on the base, and 900 MHz on the handset. This means that interference between these signals is minimized, thereby enhancing clarity and boosting range. A proprietary circuitry design also helps these phones resist interference from other devices, such as microwave ovens, that share similar bands.

The KX-TG2400B also boasts an attractive shock-resistant design; a dual antenna system for smooth two-way conversations; a nickel metal hydride battery; a headset jack and belt clip; a three-level handset volume control; 25-channel automatic scanning; and flash, pause, and redial functions.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars I personally think this phone is extremely decent........2002-12-20

I bought this phone over 1.5 years ago, and I love it. My base is near a window, which is very close to my computer I am typing at right now. This phone can go over 100 feet indoors, and about 3/4 of a football field away outdoors (with houses in the way!). This phone is pure gold to me. I got it free from my neighbor (who also bought one, and has it in his house). They have never interfered with each other, ever.

All good things come with bad things. They aren't very hard to solve.
- The power runs out after about 5 to 6 hours of use, or about an hour using a headset (I hear thats very fast).
-also-
- Sometimes you cannot connect to the base unit when making a call. To solve this issue, place the phone on your base unit so charge comes up, and hold PHONE for about 5 seconds. Not hard at all!

All in all, this phone is lovely. Hopefully it will last longer (and I haven't changed the battery yet!).

1 out of 5 stars save your money.......2000-07-22

The first one I bought stopped working completely in a day or 2. Got an exchange. After about 6 months it started failing. The voice gets fuzzy after about 5 or 10 minutes of use. It's useless now. A waste of money.

1 out of 5 stars Poor Quaility.......2000-07-01

I purchased three of these phones. Two out of three of the phones have broken.

4 out of 5 stars I think it is a great phone........2000-05-29

I bought this phone last month, and I must say that I have not had any problems with it. On the contrary, I think it is a very good phone.

The sound is very clear, and it gives you a an audible signal when the battery is almost dead. It has a very nice slim design, (almost as small as my cell phone),and I love its black color.

Best of all, there is a earphone jack provided so that you can listen through headphones. (must be made specifically for phones)

There is only one problem I have with the phone, it is that there is no volume control. Sometimes when my children are going haywire I would like to turn it up. Unfortunatly, that is not an option.

Other than that, I truly like this phone. I have been through many cordless ones over this past year, and this one is my favorite.

1 out of 5 stars A non starter.......2000-05-20

I purchased this phone new to replace another Panasonic phone (900 mhz)that suddenly quit working one year after purchase. I set up the phone, charged the battery for 24 hours and then tried to use it. The phone would not work. I boxed it up, returned it and replaced it with a Uniden model EXR 2460 2.4 GHz phone that I have been very pleased with so far.
