A Bluetooth-enabled accessory handset, the ELX500 is the ideal companion for your Uniden ELBT585 or ELBT595 expandable phone system. It is also compatible with other ELT series and select T8, CLX, and VoIP series models. The handset offers a clear 5.8 GHz signal, exceptional range, and a wide array of handy features.

Caller ID/call waiting compatible, the handset's 100-number caller ID memory allows you to see a list of all recent incoming calls, while a 100-name and 400-number phone directory lets you keep track of all your important phone numbers. With the included USB cable, you can download pictures from your PC for use as handset background or as distinctive caller ID indicators. A 10-number speed dial makes dialing the most frequently dialed numbers quick and easy, and a display-and-dial feature lets you scroll through the caller ID and phone directory lists and call the displayed number simply by pressing the Talk button.

Handset-to-handset memory transfer lets you import phone numbers from another handset. The soft-key menu and joystick navigation provide a convenient way to access the phone's many features, via a full-color LCD. Menus can be set to one of three languages (French, English, and Spanish).

The ELX500 comes with 20 preset rings, as well as an audio cable that allows you to download your favorite songs or audio clips for use as ringtones. You can adjust handset and ringer volume levels to your liking, and also take advantage of Bluetooth headset compatibility. A last-number redial feature lets you quickly call any of the last 20 outgoing numbers, while a mute button lets you silence your end of the conversation while still allowing you to hear the other party.

In DirectLink mode, handsets are able to act as two-way radios, and a room/baby monitor setting lets you monitor another handset location. An intercom function lets you easily communicate with another handset, and conference calling lets multiple handsets communicate with an outside line. Handset-to-handset call transfer also lets you easily route incoming calls to another phone location. The ELX500 also comes backed with a one-year limited warranty.

Great Phone Addition to go with Main System.......2007-06-07

These phones are pricy but for the quality they perform at its worth it. I brought them due to the flip deisgn, compact as well as the cell link feature. Its great being on one side of the house and having the cell ring, which makes the house phone ring and you can answer your cell directly off that. You can set and change rings, its just great. Great feature. The phone has many other features as well, caller Id, and intercom, so much more!

I wanted a phone that I could use with my bluetooth capable cell phone and this one works like a charm. I can call using cell phone minutes from either ELX500 (I have two) or the cell phone itself. I can also answer a cell call from any of the three phones. These phones are very light weight and comes with a holder that clips to a belt. Too many features to list here.

Short term product.......2007-02-15

As others have posted this phone is not worth the cost. Too bad Uniden saw fit to put this product out. There must have been a huge profit margin in it for them. Will try another manufacturer's product and spend again for a home phone. The Bluetooth is the hook, the quality of manufacture is the pain. And your right, the cost of repair is far beyond commansensical.

CRAP!!!.......2007-01-14

I preordered this item and waited months before it became available. I loved the features: baby monitor, 2-way radios, blue tooth, VOIP capable, flip phone, etc. I paid over $500 for the base unit & 3 handsets. At this point, the only feature we can use is the speaker phone on the base unit. 1 year after we had them, the first one broke at the hinges. I contacted Uniden but our only option was to pay almost the cost of a new one for repairs. It wasn't a month or 2 longer and the other 2 hinges broke - it's just cheep plastic. We don't even have children yet - these phones were never abused. The phones are about 1 1/2 years old now but 2 won't work at all and 1 will only hold a charge for a single 30 minute phone call. I though about replacing the handsets or even trying new batteries at $22 a pop but, for the cost I think I'll opt for a new phone set. This was my first and my last uniden phone.

Staggering array of features, very poor reception/range.......2006-11-06

I place the order for this phone before it was even available for sale, so I did not read any reviews prior to getting it. It simply seemed like the best phone available (feature wise):
- Answering system
- Bluetooth capable
- 4,096 color screen
- Load your phone numbers from Outlook etc...
- 5.8 GHz

Why did I give it a rating of 2/5? Because the reception on this phone is absolutely terrible. I suspect that poor reviews on this phone are the reason why they are discontinuing it.

When using the flip phone a mere room away from the base, you hear crackling on the phone and it even drops the signal if I stray too far (1-2 rooms away), or if I even stand behind the refrigerator door!

I called tech support and they were no help of course, claiming that I should keep the base away from a computer?! Eh? My network is 2.4GHz, this phone is 5.8GHz, did this person go through Uniden training?

Sigh, I can only hope this review helps other folks before spending money needlessly on this useless (yet wonderful on paper) phone.
