The printer paper feed is a dead loss after six months. Unlike most printers, it's not a gradual decline in performance with a failure to feed every now and then which gets progressively gets worse. No, it simply whirs and grinds and refuses to feed at all. The noise is really nasty.

Even before this complete failure, it wasn't satisfactory. A magazine page in the scanner feed would jam it every time. Yes, they do warn about that in the manual, but other scanners do it just fine, so I thought I'd give it a try. Took ten minutes to get all the shreds out of the scanner feed. Feeding, whether to the scanner or the printer, does not seem like a strong suit at Lexmark.

The interface to the scanner is clunky also. Each page I scan, it warns me about low ink. Why do I need ink to scan a page? Initiating scan from the printer always fails. I have to initiate from the computer. Then there is stupid stuff like "Press Start to begin Scan". There is no start button. There is 'Start Color' and there is 'Start B&W' but they just make a honking sound when I press them. What button do they mean?

The only good thing I can say about it is form factor. It's reasonably compact and has clean lines.

Of several dozen printers I've bought for home or work, this was the least satisfactory. I would never consider a Lexmark again.

Perfect for at home or office.......2007-05-17

I purchased this All In One from Amazon in October of last year and cannot say enough good things about it. I love the ease of operation and installation was a breeze. The only negative things about it are; my SD card will not fit the slot provided and since I've upgraded to Vista the fax utility is unavailable. I rarely use the fax so that isn't a big issue and I'm still able to send and receive faxes, I just am not able to fax from my computer. Lexmark is working on making that utility compatible with Vista though. Their customer support is above average, certainly better than my experiences with HP and Norton. The ink is also very reasonable and lasts me quite a while. Also, unlike the Epson I had previously, I don't have to clean the print heads, (wasting ink!), if I don't print something every day or two. Great printer!

Good Printer for price.......2007-05-14

This is a good choice for the price. Prints both blk&white and color pages pretty quickly, the scanner quality is also decent. The automatic copy feeder can be a little quirky and can only feed a few pages at a time but once again for the price I can't really complain.

Lexmark X8350 All-in-one .......2007-05-13

This Lexmark is probably the best all-in-one I have ever used. It was easy to set up and easy to learn how to use. The printed instructions are easier to follow than any I have ever seen. The Fax is the easiest to set up and use that I have ever seen. The printer does an excellent job as does the scanner. Photo quality is excellent. I have had several brands of all-in-ones, but this one is the best overall machine I have ever owned. When I saw it on Amazon, I couldn't believe the great price and how fast I received it. I looked at it locally and it was two times Amazon's price. I highly recommend this machine from Amazon.

A great little machine!.......2007-05-07

We have a user at our organization that needed an all-in-one unit a while back. Over the past two years, we've bought him three different machines and none of them worked the way that they were supposed to - they all did one thing far better than all of the other functions. Personally, I buy from Amazon all the time, and I looked here to buy a new all-in-one unit instead of going on the recommendation of others. I find the reviews on here to be invaluable. Anyway, this was suggested, and no one could beat the price. It shipped fast, and I set it up the next day. The setup procedure was easy to set up for faxing and printing. As soon as I was done setting up the fax, one came through. I figured out the scanning portion, as that's what this user needed the most, and taught him how to scan in his stuff - and now he's a pro at it. Scanning is a little slow, but it's a small sacrifice to make for the performance of this product. We are very happy with this machine - and it's small enough where this user has reclaimed most of his desk space back.

Lot of printer for the price.......2007-06-28

Never paid less for more ... Plug and play set-up for Apple user. Awesome black & white text and graphics. Color graphics are beautiful. We've pushed the printer's limits--printing photos with subtle color variation (think body of water) at letter sized. If you look carefully at these prints, you can discern vertical bars of color and some uneveness.

Its a little louder than I expected and bigger. But fits on top of rolling file cart.

C534N Color Laser Printer.......2007-06-12

Received it ok but set up was slight problem, the on-line manual/technical helped in which (red tape)locations to remove. It took about 15 minutes. Contrary to what everyone said or wrote, upon research I found that Lexmark ships these with toner cartridge starters that for the black are rated for about 1,500 pages! See their web site for confirmation. Noisy when it starts up and when left on (in powersave) it will start up and power down by itself. Printing both black and color are very good. If it wasn't for the cost of cartridge refills (only from Lexmark) and the lack of generic cartridges it would be an excellent buy.
Only if you can find it economical for the refills should you go ahead with this printer buy.

Good Value After Rebate.......2007-05-27

Very good quality and value for the price after rebate. Only downsides are"
1. Size-it is very large and you will want to hook it to a wireless and stash it somewhere out of the way.
2. I "wakes itself up" every so often when not being used and runs for a 5 seconds. This is very loud and annoying.
3. Since Lexmark is very big on copyprotecting its cartridges and bring lawsuits against anyone who trys to make generics for them, you will not be able to find affordable replacements, so ebay or toss it when the cartridges run out.

confused.......2007-06-09

I had the exact same printer previously and it worked fine. I had to finally replace it. I did so by buying the exact same printer. However, I have not been able to get working on the exact same computer. I tried it on someone elses computer and it worked just fine. I have troubleshooted over 10 times for many many hours with no results. I contacted Lexmark over the phone and they couldn't get it to work. Then the emailed a direct link to have the printer downlowded. It still didn't work. I give up!!

Another Lexmark with paper feed problems.......2007-06-07

I guess you get what you pay for but Lexmark used to be so much better quality than their printers of late are. This is the second Lexmark printer(2 different models) that I have purchased only to have to replace them within a year of only light to moderate home use for paper feed problems. I contacted Lexmark on it and their answer was to open up the printer, clean out the paper feed roller and that I really should be doing this on a regular basis! What a crock!! We have several HP printers at work and have used them for years without having to something like this. Lexmark is getting a reputation in the consumer reports of having paper feed problems. OK is you want to spend $30 or so and use it for a year and then replace it again. It prints nice before the paper feed messes up but then it's a totally worthless printer as it won't even let you manually feed the paper in...just won't pick it up no matter what you do. For $30 I don't think I should have to clean off the print roller with rubbing alcohol every couple weeks like Lexmark tech support recommended. Will not buy Lexmark ever again after having this happen 2 times on 2 different models now.

Excellent Low Cost Printer.......2007-05-14

Excellent low end printer. Easy to use and quality is reasonble. Cartridge price is also reasonable. Highly recommended for kids, back-up or for printing where you don't need photo quality.

Ver-r-y Pleased!.......2007-05-13

This is a great little printer for the price, fairly fast and very nice quality--I was surprised and am very pleased!...but then again, it IS a Lexmark! The ink cartridge for this model is also very inexpensive--under $20--so that was another nice surprise. I use it at home daily for regular printing tasks, and the photos are pretty decent too. I would recommend this to everyone.

Lexmark Printer.......2007-04-13

The product was priced very reasonably but the price is evident in the printing quality. This is a good printer for items that do not require high quality, but if you plan to print pictures or other items that require high quality, you may want to invest a little more money for one that is "higher up the line." Overall, it is fine for what I had intended it for, install was easy and I have yet to replace ink so I am unsure what that will cost.

some problems.......2007-03-20

This is possibly the most complex hardware/software combo you will ever own. It's not like a car or a refrigerator where you turn it on and it does what it's supposed to. From the control panel and the computer there are hundreds of options for you to choose from. This will be an excellent purchase once all those options work.

You have read about all the good features already, and there are many. Let me mention the problems I had.

Wireless: it just plain didn't work with either the Mac or the PC, which have been networked and on the internet wirelessly for years.

The manual is useless except to tell you to use the 'wizard' to set up your wireless system. There is no additional information at the web site. I discovered that there are several undocumented diagnostic functions available through the printer control panel. I wish they would just publish a proper manual that explains everything.

At times I was able to use some printer functions connected by an ethernet cable and I was able to use the scanner connected via USB--but neither connection system was reliable and much of the time I couldn't use either computer with the printer by any method. Over 2.5 months I spent around 100 hours trying to make this work.

Tech support exchanged 18 emails and three hours of 2nd level phone support which were no help at all. Support seems to come from India. You can't call the 2nd level people. You must wait for them to call you and hope that you are there to receive the call- it may be many days before they call again. They try to help but as I said- this is a complex system.

My suggestion on the wireless option- if it works the first time it's probably OK, otherwise return the unit before you waste 100 hours trying to fix it. I happen to know that many people had no problems with this wireless unit.

I usually choose duplex printing, but this unit jammed about 27% of the sheets, requiring the entire print job to be restarted. Repairing the jam requires turning the printer around, removing the duplex unit, and yanking the paper out firmly. Additionally, duplex printing caused ink to smear on the back of sheets passing through, making the paper look dirty. This could be the result of pulling out jammed paper.

One-sided printing was acceptable although dull on plain paper. Once I set up a template for Word and another program, I was able to print envelopes reliably. I was able to print on legal-sized paper and I seem to recall that I scanned a legal sized sheet once.

Copying and scanning worked much better than the leading competitor but colors were not reproduced correctly. The few sheets I put through the automatic feeder went well, but small items like photographs must be individually placed on the scanner.

Optical character recognition worked surprisingly well, considering that the software was a free extra with my purchase and doesn't seem to be mentioned at Amazon. This OCR software was on the Lexmark install disk and there are versions for PC and Mac, so I guess you will get it too. There were many other programs included in my purchase (not from this site) which weren't interesting to me. I didn't test the fax.

I plugged my camera into one of the ports and the printer allowed me to view them on the color window and I could print one or many. Nice, but I would never print a photo without cleaning it up in the computer first.

I love this printer. It is exactly what I have been looking for. It breaks my heart that I had to return it. The main competitor has a seriously flawed unit with poor customer support and currently no wireless option. If Lexmark can fix the software (I'm sure my duplex unit was a rare defect) and the documentation/support, it will be nearly perfect and I will buy it again!
