The DCS-5300W is a powerful surveillance system that connects to a wired Ethernet or Enhanced 802.11b wireless connection to provide remote high-quality video and audio. The DCS-5300W provides advanced technology with DDNS and UPnP support.

Easily access your camera using an Internet Explorer browser from anywhere in the world. From the web browser you can view video from the DCS-5300W and manage the camera. The DCS-5300W comes with CCD sensor that provides a sharp and clear image with life-like color representation. The built-in microphone adds sound to the video. Record streaming video that utilizes high quality MPEG-4 Compression to your hard drive, enable motion detection and set up automated email alerts for security.

The D-Link DCS-5300W also has a pan and tilt function that can be controlled from the Web interface or from your remote control. Autopan mode enables the camera to move 270 degrees horizontally and the Patrol mode cycles through up to 24 preset positions. The speed of either pan or tilt can be adjusted to your preference.

The bundled IP surveillance software further enhances the security features of the DCS-5300W, allowing you to archive streaming video to your hard drive, search and playback stored video, monitor as many as 16 cameras on a single screen, and set up motion detection to trigger automatic recording or email alert notification.

After spending considerable time configuring, updating firmware, and deciphering manuals, I thought I was in the clear. Although the "wireless option" was, shall we say, "disappointing", the wired configuration was providing a great view of Lake Winnipesaukee from my office window (for MSIE users, that is; Firefox/Opera browsers are not supported) until 1 year and 2 days from date of purchase. The camera sensed the warranty expiration and is now completely dead (well, pan and tilt still work, but what's the point?). D-Link support suggested I buy a new one. I will. I found a nifty Panasonic camera that looks very promising. The 5300W goes in the bin with my previously-failed D-Link Router and D-link switch.

Good features. Poor quality for price.......2005-07-07

The features are great: emailing, pan and tilt, wireless, zooming, etc.
However, the image quality is probably one of the poorest image qualities i have ever seen with a camera that cost well over $400. Luckily, this was bought with company money and not my own. If i bought it personally, i would be pissed off.

The Best Surveillance Camera on the Market.......2005-05-18

This camera has to be the best available option for office/home surveillance system on the market. I have 4 camera's at home and recommended them in the office, and now using 2. With my networking background, set up was less than 15 minutes. Loaded with features, this camera hasn't yet failed my needs. I able to watch the neighboors peak around my place and even look into windows. I highly recommend this camera. Price is high but once you get it running the product out weighs the price.

An Awesome Camera with Ro-Bitchen Features!.......2005-04-30

This thing is like a little robot eye. I can pan and tilt and digital zoom all from a web browser on my networked PC. The image quality is good, the wireless range is good, the features are quite robust, and it even looks good.

You can mount it upside down and have it flip the image it sees, thus still showing everything "right side up". The digital zoom was added with a firmware upgrade. The price is a little daunting, but if you are going to put it to good use I think you would enjoy this camera.

A Top Quality Camera with Awesome Features!.......2005-04-01

I like this camera very much. I wish there was more documentation on it though. I want to know what every setting does and how it does it. I want to build programs/PHP scripts that "interact" with this camera and allow for image archiving or other neat little features. But I haven't found the time to research all that.

Installation of this camera was fairly simple, although a little bumpy getting the wireless to work right. But in the end I got it working just fine, and it's stable now. The features this camera does have blows a lot of other cameras out of the water. There is the Dynamic DNS, which I use all the time, the FTP uploads which are great, and the pan and tilt all at this price are wonderful features.

I'd suggest going to D-Link's product page for this product and clicking on the Emulator link as that is where you can get a feel for the interface of this product. It is neatly laid out and gets the job done as far as minimal clicks goes. Nothing is deeply hidden, and everything is accessable in about 3-4 clicks max.
