Amazon.com Review
Just when you thought Garmin had cornered the market on powerful, affordable, and effective wrist-mounted GPS devices, here comes the Forerunner 305. The release of this device is a major achievement from a design and technology perspective. This isn't just marketing-speak; the Forerunner 305 is the most accurate, most reliable wrist-mounted performance and GPS tracking tool we've ever tested. Yes, it's that good. While no device this compact can do everything (yet), the 305 pushes the boundaries of what is possible from something strapped around your wrist. The 305 model includes wireless heartrate monitoring and it can also be connected to Garmin's wireless bicycle speed and cadence sensor. If you don't need these features, consider the lower-priced Forerunner 205.View Garmin's Forerunner demonstration video.

Not so with the 305. Garmin's engineers obviously burned the midnight oil and have come up with a waterproof design that, while certainly not as small as a sports watch, feels just as comfortable. The curved casing allows the unit's antenna to face the sky when you're running, while the widescreen display is perfectly positioned for viewing when you need it. And the display certainly deserves a few kudos. While it's smaller than the display found on previous Forerunners, its resolution is far higher, offering incredible clarity and crispness.
Garmin has smartly given the 305 a simple button layout and the buttons have a nice tactile feel with good pressure response. The right side houses the menu selection and enter buttons, while the left houses a power/backlight button and a mode button. This simple and elegant solution is a big improvement over the sometimes confusing button functionality of previous Forerunners. View button layout.
The underside of the 305 is pretty nondescript, except for a row of contacts that interface with the included charging and data cradle. The cradle is small and unobtrusive and its single mini-USB port connects to either an included AC adapter, or a USB cable that connects to your PC. In addition to data transfer with the USB cable, you can also charge the 305's embedded lithium-ion battery via a powered USB connection from your computer.
GPS Performance
The big news about the Forerunner 305 is that it features an integrated, high-sensitivity SiRFstar III GPS receiver. What does this mean? It means that the 305's ability to both track, and maintain a lock on, your position is better than anything before it. After an intial battery charge, the tester had the 305 on his wrist and was tracking speed and distance with GPS satellites within 3 minutes. The next time we used the 305, satellite acquisition was nearly instantaneous. A run through dense trees didn't faze the unit either; tracking remained true and steady. Performance on a bike was equally impressive. Whatever witchcraft has been cooked up by the designers of the SiRF technology, we like it!
The simple docking cradle makes charging and data connectivity a snap. |
Training Functions
The 305 is first and foremost a training tool, and its ability to organize a ton of data types into a user experience that is intuitive and simple is no small feat. Whiz-bang technology aside, if you can't use it and make it a natural part of your exercise routine, it's worthless. When it comes to these factors -- and here's the take home message on the 305 -- this device is successful where many other devices fail.
The heart and soul of the 305 can be found on the data screens, which give you real-time information about all aspects of your workout. In fact, the 305 can display a dizzying array of data, such as calories burned, distance, elevation, grade, and heading, as well as multiple lap and pace modes. The 305 adds the ability to track heartrate, lap heartrate, average heartrate, and heartrate zones via the included coded heartrate chest strap. With the purchase of a separate wireless cadence and speed meter, you can also track bike performance data.
Thankfully, the device makes it easy to define how much or how little data you want to view during a workout. You can arrange the data that's most important to you and then make that data appear front and center on the device. Indeed, within a few minutes of skimming the manual and fiddling with the device setup, you'll have your most important data displaying just the way you like it. The ability to display heartrate is a big plus, too, as it's a fairly good indicator of excercise output, fatigue, and fitness level. The 305 has all the heartrate functions you'd expect from a full-function monitor, including the ability to set target zones and alerts to maximize the effectiveness of your workouts.
Garmin's Virtual Partner function was cool feature of previous Forerunners and they've decided to keep a good thing going with the 305. If you're the type that performs best when you've got a competitor egging you on, you'll love this function, as it allows you to set up virtual running or biking companions that compete against you.
If you're looking for an complicated workout with a variety of intervals and intensity levels, or just a quick three-mile jog against your best time last week, the 305 has you covered. Navigating to the Workouts menu on the device yields three options: Quick Workouts, Interval, and Advanced Workout. A quick workout is just that; set the distance and time, distance and pace, or time and pace of your planned workout and off you go. Interval workouts are just the same, but they allow you to add repetitions and rest between them. When you really want to get fancy with your exercise, you can step up to advanced workouts, which include goals for each workout step, as well as varied distances, times, and rest periods. You can use the Garmin Training Center software to set up these workouts and then upload them to the device.
PC Connectivity and Software
Garmin has been outfitting their devices with USB connectivity for some time now -- a welcome move for those who struggled with serial port connections in the days of yore. Thanks to USB, the 305 integrates seamlessly with the Training Center software and we quickly had workout history uploaded and stored on the PC (Sadly, Training Center is not Mac-compatible). Not only does Training Center make it easy to track your performance, you can graph data such as heartrate alongside your speed and distance. Over time, this is a great way to view your fitness levels increase, and it also helps you see what types of workouts are necessary to strengthen your weaknesses. For instance, if you see your heartrate begin to spike after a certain distance, you know you need to increase your endurance workouts to train that area of fitness.
In a first for the Forerunner series, the Training Center software also lets you define courses on your PC that you can upload to the device. When course information is combined with uploaded workout information, the Forerunner becomes a complete guide, telling you where to go, when to make a turn, and what kind of workout to do when you're on the road or path. Back on the PC, the software's ability to overlay workout data on maps of the course makes it easy to see where the course offers up the tough hills and the easy recovery spots. Plus, the ability to track historical performance on a given course is a great way to measure your improvement.
The 305 is also fully compatible with Garmin's MotionBased service, which takes your training to another level by connecting your data with the Internet. While we weren't able to use the service, the promise of sharing courses, maps, workouts, and performance data with other users is intriguing. And if you're a serious endurance athlete, you'll be glad to know that the 305 is also compatible with TrainingPeaks.com, an easy-to-use web based training system designed to help athletes train for any event.
Pros
Amazon.com Product Description
The successor to the Garmin Forerunner 301 is here, and it's better than ever. Weighing in at just over 2.5 ounces, the Garmin Forerunner 305 breaks new ground in terms of comfort, style, and performance. Totally redesigned, the 305 gives outdoor athletes and runners real-time information about speed, distance, pace, and heart rate on a device that's easy to use and amazingly compact.
The Forerunner 305 features the powerful new SiRF GPS navigation chip for supreme accuracy, even under tree cover and between tall buildings. A coded chest strap heart-rate monitor prevents unwanted interference from other devices. View larger. |
The unit's GPS receiver is designed to face towards the sky when you're running. |
A more watch-like design makes it far easier to use and wear. |
The 305's digitally coded heart-rate monitor--which is worn as a chest strap--sends heart-rate data to the device so you can see whether you're training too hard or not hard enough. Alerts for pace, distance, time, and heart rate are also available. Additionally, the unit tracks speed, distance, pace, and calories burned. Meanwhile, a course feature lets you race against previous runs in order to improve your time or just compare heart rate and pace data at every point of the way.
The 305's easy-to-read, 1.3-inch display has been integrated into a sleek and stylish form factor that is definitely a step up from the larger and more cumbersome Forerunner 301 model. Indeed, the 305 looks and wears like a stylish sports watch, and it's more carefully designed to meet the needs of athletes. The design also positions the antenna with an optimal view of the sky. As an added feature, the case is water resistant to IEC 60529 IPX7 standards (can be submerged in one meter of water for 30 minutes).
Accuracy is the name of the game with the 305. The vastly more accurate GPS antenna and receiver, which uses an advanced SiRF chip, offer much faster satellite acquisition times. Plus, the unit can hold a fix in places never before possible. Gone are the days of losing a fix under tree cover or when running between tall buildings. All of these features add up to far more accuracy in recording and tracking your exercise data. And because the 305 uses GPS to track how far and how fast you're going, you never have to calibrate it. The unit also doubles as a basic navigator. Mark your starting point as a specific location, see your current position on the plotter display, and follow an electronic breadcrumb trail back to your starting point.
The 305 features a USB data connection and docking cradle for downloading your speed, lap, exercise time, and heart-rate data into Garmin's Training Center PC software. The unit stores up to 1,000 lap histories, which you can download to your PC for a detailed post-workout analysis. Plus, you can create and schedule workouts using the included software and download them to the unit. A rechargeable internal lithium-ion battery offers up to ten hours of battery life.
For additional post-workout analysis, the 305 is compatible with MotionBased software. MotionBased adds a new dimension to training and outdoor fitness that makes the analytical aspects of a sport more compelling and a lot more fun. You can upload data to MotionBased, a Web-based application that has partnered with Garmin. MotionBased provides in-depth analysis of your workouts, as well as online mapping and route sharing that will take your training to the next level. MotionBased automatically calculates time, distance, speed, elevation, and heart rate, and it displays this information through meaningful charts, illustrations, reports, and maps. With MotionBased, you can also race multiple instances of the same route to see how you are improving or to race other members of MotionBased. You can "virtually race" someone you don't even know.
If you like the features of the Forerunner 305 but don't need heart-rate monitoring, be sure to check out the Forerunner 205.

While the Forerunner 205 isn't billed as a GPS navigation device, it does have some rudimentary mapping, waypoint marking, and routing capabilities. In addition to marking locations along your journey, you can zoom in or out of a simple map that displays your current direction and path. There's also a "go to location" feature that routes you back to your starting location, or to any location you have defined. Once you have defined several locations, you can save this information as a route, allowing you to travel the same path in the future. As you'll see below, the 205's new "Courses" feature gives you new levels of control over how you define your favorite runs and rides.

In addition, the Edge 305 gives you the ability to overlay your ride data onto a course map and even "race" a virtual partner, making your training fun while helping to push you toward your goals.
The included, PC-based Training Center software gives you the tools to create workouts, manage and download courses, and create a detailed post-ride analysis that charts your performance. It also measures your speed, distance, climb, descent, and heart-rate data against varying terrain, elevation, and more. And with the Edge 305's built-in USB interface, it is quick and easy to upload and download information.
The virtual partner screen depicts a digital cyclist (representing your desired speed) in relation to your real-time speed. From this set of data the icons will show how far ahead or behind you are from your digital competitor. The Courses feature allows you to race against a recorded course to try and match previously set speeds at every point along the way.
Training in urban areas can be tricky, and undesirable traffic can skew training data. To help remedy this problem, Garmin has included an auto-pause function that pauses the training timer when you slow down below a specified speed and resumes when you speed up again so you can focus on your ride, not on your data collection. And with the auto lap function, this smart little device automatically triggers a lap every time you pass a specified location or travel a preset distance.
With its sleek, waterproof design (the Edge 305 meets IEC 60529 IPX7 standards, which means that its components can be submerged in one meter of water for 30 minutes), the 305 is the perfect companion on any bike, and it attaches to either the stem or handlebars. This lightweight device (88 grams) is powered by an 800mAh rechargeable lithium-ion battery and delivers an average of 12 hours of use per charge. The rugged case frames an easy-to-read, large, backlit display that makes it a breeze to view the data fields. So whether you're racing against your virtual partner, fighting to shave precious seconds off your old record, or training for the next big race, the Edge 305 will help you monitor your progress and make you a better cyclist.

Garmin Forerunner 201 Wrist-Mounted GPS Navigator and Personal Training Device
Manufacturer: Garmin ProductGroup: CE Binding: Electronics Similar Items:

Product Features:
ASIN: B0000CFYCH |
Amazon.com Review
Combining powerful performance-tracking features with a GPS receiver, the Garmin Forerunner 201 offers runners and hikers a unique way to track their exercise regimens and goals. Unlike its main competitor, Timex's BodyLink sport monitoring system, the Forerunner 201 integrates the GPS receiver into a single body (BodyLink has separate housings for watch and GPS).
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The large display--with equally large, easy-to-read characters--helps you avoid having to squint at the readout. Just a quick glance at your numbers and you'll maintain your training concentration. The six rubber buttons on the front of the chassis are easy to access (unless you're wearing bulky gloves). I easily got the promised 13 hours out of the rechargeable lithium-ion battery. At the end of the day, I'd just recharge it for around two hours and it would be ready for me the next morning.
While this is definitely a workable GPS receiver, the Forerunner is slim on overall GPS features--which is not to its detriment (think of it as a performance monitor with a dash of GPS). That said, the Forerunner was able to pick up a GPS signal just about wherever I went outside (though it had very slight hiccups in the center of downtown). But if you're looking for a full-fledged tracking device, the Forerunner isn't for you. (You'll want to start with a basic GPS unit like Garmin's eTrex.)
The Forerunner 201 has a variety of helpful tracking, monitoring, and navigational features. The History function enables you to view your workout statistics broken down by individual days, cumulative weeks, or your entire workout history (if you track different workouts during the same day, they'll be broken out as different laps). You can even view a map of your route. And much like other GPS units, you can save waypoints (called "locations" in Forerunner parlance) to mark the coordinates of a place you want to return to later.
Most interesting is the Virtual Partner mode, which enables you to set goals for a workout which will then be completed by a digital character displayed on the Forerunner's screen. You can then see how far off the time, pace, or distance you are of your virtual training buddy's; your digital character even stops when you do (though the buddy keeps on going). I found that, unless you've got a good idea as to your pace or distance, you'll have a couple of trial-and-error training sessions to get in sync with your buddy. I cut short my first attempt after my buddy got so far ahead of me that he disappeared off the screen (which I'd like to believe was not due to my woeful pace).
I was disappointed at not having the LogBook software, which enables you to keep a journal of your exercise activities (it was not available at the time of this test). But overall, the Forerunner 201 is a very useful exercise-monitoring system that will be prized by anyone involved in serious physical training. --Agen G.N. Schmitz
Auto Menu: Timer pauses when you stop running. Auto lap logs your performance over a predetermined distance. |

It's a lightweight, accurate training assistant with performance tracking, auto-lap, auto-pause and more. And because it is a high quality Garmin GPS device, you get many of the features GPS users have come to rely on, such as precise latitude, longitude, altitude data. Choose either the 201 model for rechargeable power or the 101 if you prefer to use 2 AAA batteries. The Forerunner 201 is easy to use right out of the box and delivers the benefits of GPS technology at an affordable price.
To please folks who are passionate about their exercise and training, Garmin has added something special to the Forerunner 201 called the Virtual Partner. The feature allows you to set your training goal by configuring your Virtual Partner's pace and workout distance. You'll get a graphic perspective of your performance by viewing your pace in relation to your Virtual Partner's pace, so you can always see at a glance if you're keeping up or falling behind.
Almost as important as the training device itself are the accessories to integrate it with your active lifestyle. If you're into cycling, the best way to keep an eye on your GPS while you ride is with a bike mount bracket that straps to the handlebars of your bike, motorcycle, or whatever you're traveling with for easy viewing.

Garmin 201.......2007-05-28
Gets a satellite signal easily tracks miles accuately.
Not always correct on the pace speed.
Great for training.......2007-05-13
It is true that it does not work great near skyscrapers. Other then that, it is great.
Garmin Forerunner 201.......2007-05-12
If you are into jogging, biking or walking to keep fit this product will help to keep you motivated. It keeps a record of distance, pace/speed, time, calories and will show a map of your route. You can also retrace your route to the starting point. The only down side is that the GPS unit can take up to 15 minutes to find the GPS but I've had no trouble once it locks on.
Nice running companion.......2007-05-10
The Garmin Forerunner 201 is just right for my running needs. It allows you to set custom display on one page which is nice. It keeps me honest. I thought I was running faster than I am, but since I got the 201 my speed has improved since it gives me immediate feedback on how I am doing relative to my goal. It also has an interval training option so you can set it up to do intervals on any course and I like that since I don't like to run on or go to a track. I got it rather than the 101 because of the rechargeable battery. I didn't want to have to keep replacing batteries every week or two.
Awesome tool for anyone .......2007-04-24
I bought the Garmin Forerunner to help with my training for police testings. To my surprise, this gadget has really helped in my endeavors. The greatest part is being able to look back on the progress you have made with your training. I have had the garmin forerunner for two weeks now and have run every day with it. I love the fact that i can race against a "virtual" racer to help with my times. Another nice part of it, is that it tells what my pace is as well as if im behind or ahead of where i want to be. If you dont care about pace, you can switch to a custom page and you can see how many calories burned instead. After my runs, i come and load up what i have just accomplished on the computer. With the PC software, i can see everything from the map i just ran to the elevation and grade of the track. Everything is broken down to the second. The Garmin Forerunner GPS was so accurate, it showed me running in a little cultasac in my neighborhood. Yes, its a little bit of a pricey toy BUT, it is well worth it!

A great HR monitor.......2007-07-01
I originally purchased a Suunto T1 and had to send it back - too complicated, lousy manual and no customer service from the company (the U.S. division was taking the day off for a European holiday and no one was there to help me set it up). I was really discouraged and my husband suggested I take a look at the F4 and F6. I settled on the F6 because of the size and the many features. It was much easier to set up than the Suunto and I think the pink is just adorable. It's easy enough for even a technophobe like me to use, light weight on my wrist and the chest strap is small enough that it doesn't dig into me the way the Suunto did. Overall, I think there are a lot of good features on this monitor. I haven't used it that much (only got it last week) but so far it's a 5 star purchase.
Love The HRM!!!! but..........2007-06-20
I bought this HRM about a month ago and absolutely love it. The only thing that I don't like about this HRM is that the watch stripe gets dirty really fast. I tried to clean it with different staff, but it doesn't help. If anyone knows how I can clean it, please let me know. Thanks!
Polar F6 Pink HRM.......2007-06-09
This is very cute, very easy to set-up and very easy to read! I love it.
Easy to use and good features.......2007-05-24
I've used this monitor for a few weeks now. I've had polar HR monitors in the past (many years ago) and this one is definitely the best that I've used. The best feature to me was the ease of set up and use. I read the manual but didn't need to get started with the basics. It also has a number of features that I didn't expect (being able to load your data to a pc via their website services). The color is a bit odd -but better than black. It fits my wrist with out having a lot of extra wrist strap flapping around. I'm very pleased with the unit so far.
Excelent and comply what I was looking for.!.......2007-05-24
The heart rate is good and special for my wife. Is very beatiful and woman style.

Customer Reviews:
Very Good HRM.......2007-05-15
I really like this HRM and recommend it. It has improved my exercise sessions enormously. The watch is comfortable, as is the chest strap.
Excellent watch!.......2007-05-07
Polar did make a better watch...I am talking about the functions and display options. You can read 3 things at once (Calories, timer, HR).
It should be sold with the other chest band.
Polar website is not explicit about count down timer.......2007-05-04
Albeit a very good HRM that does very well it's primary job (to monitor heart rate), I was quite disappointed with the count down timer resolution. It can count to at most a minute boundary. No way to set it to, for example, 1'30". I would buy it anyway, even if I knew that. I only think that Polar website could be clear about that.
The software (website, actually) is pretty much useless.
Excellent HRM.......2007-04-18
I ordered this heart rate monitor on Thursday night and it arrived on Monday, so first of all, I couldn't be more happy with the speed of the delivery!
Second, I have been working out at a gym regularly, with a trainer for approximately 1 year. While I can tell I've increased in strength, the weight just isn't coming off. A friend of mine recommended buying a HRM, and owned a polar brand herself. I did a bit of research and settled on the F6. I used it for the first time this morning and could not be happier! Not only did I learn that my workouts were not as effective as I thought (the calories burned calculation on the elliptical machine was off by more than 100 calories in a 30 minute cardio workout!) I was also able to accurately determine by my heartrate how many calories I burned while doing my 30 minutes of strength training! Previously this was a guessing game - and if you're like me, you're overestimating your guess just like I was.
This monitor was super easy to get started with. I find the strap comfortable and was not even aware of it throughout my workout. I have a wider rib cage - about 46 inches, so I was concerned about the strap being too tight but there was plenty of room!
I would strongly recommend anyone looking at getting a HRM to consider and purchase this monitor. Take a step to get control over your workouts!!
Polar F6 Heart Rate Monitor Watch .......2007-03-22
All i can say is excellent! I'm was impressed with it the minute i activated it.
The manual is easy to read unlike so many other manuals that make what should be a simple action seem like you must know how to read backwards and skip pages frequently.
This monitor has features you can utilize for maximum results such as,
degree of workout intensity, heart rate limits and alarms that will let you know if you are overdoing it and many more than i can describe here.
Do your research carefully and when that is done i bet you'll come back to this one.

first online purchase.......2007-06-29
Had never purchased online and decided to try when other had mentioned savings. Very good search result when using your page. Recieved my purchase when promised even though very late afternoon when ordered.Product arrived in excellent conditioned and courtesy follow ups from your company checking my satisfaction were great
Not perfect, but still a great little training tool.......2007-06-13
I have really been enjoying the Forerunner 101 since purchasing it a few weeks ago. I love the freedom of varying my running routes without worrying about not having an exact measurement of the distance I've run. Here are a few comments about the product:
- After double-checking my routes in the car and comparing them to my Forerunner's calculations, it seems to be pretty accurate with distance measurements. It is possible that it is sometimes off by .10 mile or so, but that is usually close enough to satisfy me.
-It can sometimes take as long as 5 minutes to initially locate the signal. This is a minor inconvenience but one I can live with.
-It doesn't seem to be capable of picking up a strong signal with a lot of tree overhang. This is disappointing because I would like to use it for trail running and hiking.
-The AAA batteries work well as a power source. I purchased the rechargeable type of AAA batteries for convenience. One should probably keep an eye on the battery life indicator on the Forerunner and go ahead and put in a fresh pair of batteries when the battery indicator gets down to one line.
excellent.......2007-06-08
product arrived in timely fashion and was as described. would do business again. my husband found the device easy to read while running which was of utmost importance because he does require reading glasses for most things of this nature. it was also very accurate! great training device for runners.
Good training partner.......2007-06-07
This is a great gadget that helped me train for a half marathon. When using this watch I dont feel as though I am training by myself. When I see my pace has slowed down I know it is time to kick it up a notch. I also used the watch during my race. So helpful! Again, I was able to keep track of my pace and time to be sure that I was using my energy to its fullest potential. The only downfall is that regular AAA batteries do not last long. I only got about 4 hours out of brand new batteries. Keep an eye on battery life and it is a fun, helpful gps watch.
awesome, it really keeps me going. and it's easy!.......2007-06-01
This little device is awesome, it keeps me moving, I adore the virtual partner as I walk alone most of the time and am training for the NIKE marathon. I love it.

Within four seconds of touching the sensors on the watch, you can get not only an accurate heart rate reading, but also the number of calories burned during your workout.
The monitor has a programmable heart rate zone with audible and visual alarms to alert you when you get out of zone, plus a settable alarm if you have a maximum rate you should not exceed. Made from durable plastic and fully water-resistant, the device also features regular watch functions, plus a 100-hour stopwatch and countdown timer. Reebok's United Kingdom-based ancestor company was founded for one of the best reasons possible: athletes wanted to run faster. So, in the 1890s, Joseph William Foster made some of the first known running shoes with spikes in them. By 1895, he was in business making shoes by hand for top runners; and before long his fledgling company, J.W. Foster and Sons, developed an international clientele of distinguished athletes. In 1958, two of the founder's grandsons started a companion company that came to be known as Reebok, named for an African gazelle.

Use for daughter (age 8) with fast heart rate - v.happy with it.......2007-06-27
My daughter has a fast heart rate which can be difficult to count if she is running around. This seems to take an accurate heart rate - and is simple enough for her to use on her own during soccer games (during breaks in activity). Easy way to monitor her heart rate.
This was exactly what I wanted!.......2007-06-04
I received this last week and haven't taken it off since. I have used it while running and while exercising in my living room. The quality seems good, the fit is perfect for me and the instructions are clear. I love the calorie counter and the HRM seems extremely accurate. I also purchased a blood pressure wrist monitor, so I have measured my HR with the watch and then the blood pressure cuff and the readings always match or are extremely close.
The only downfall is that you do have to be almost not moving for it to pick up your HR. I wish I didn't have to stop to have this feature work, especially when running.
Other than that minor detail-I love it!
Not for everyone..........2007-05-28
Great idea but for me it doesn't work very well. More than half the time I get no reading, some of the time I get erratic readings - way too low or too high, and some times I get what appears to be an accurate reading. Very easy to set.
Could Be Good, But Not For Me.......2007-05-21
All arrived fine and seemed to be all it promised. But it doesn't pick up the senses from my fingertips so is completely useless to me. I plan to send it back and get a wireless Polar model.
For the record, I also have an iPod speaker unit that doesn't respond to my fingers. So could be me. Or perhaps isn't for people with smaller fingers.
Works as advertised, but a bit bulky.......2007-05-07
I bought this strapless heart rate monitor because I find the strap ones totally uncomfortable and inconvenient under my bra band. I will be using it at the gym to make sure my heart rate stays up while I work out.
I knew before buying it that I would have to stop (pause the treadmill, or between weight sets, etc.) to stand still and place two fingers on the dots so the device could read my heart rate. It does so just fine.
Unfortunately, I find the watch pretty bulky for my average-size women's wrist. But it's not so bad that I won't wear it - just hard to get used to considering I don't wear watches.
I haven't tried the other features of the watch, so I can't review them. HTH.

It did not work the way I thought it should........2007-05-31
It seemed difficult to get the heart rate started and then seemed to hang up on a heart rate.
Great service.......2007-05-10
For a well known product, it was a great service and a good price.
You Get What You Pay For.......2007-04-16
I have owned this HRM for over a year. I just started running when I bought this product. My trainer suggested that I should buy this inexpensive HRM to keep up with my heart rate. I thought it was wonderful until I learned there were better HRMs.
I didn't have the strap issue the other reviewers had. I found it easy to put on, but cleaning the strap is an issue. I use the Polar heart rate monitor as a back up now. It still works fine. I think this monitor is good if you just want a very basic heart rate monitor.
*This heart rate monitor will not tell you how many calories you lost.
watch out for polar...........2007-04-08
sent a polar heart rate monitor back for a new battery (compliemntary service) and they are charging me US$50 for repair of damage that didn't exist before I sent it. Once the monitor's battery is dead you will need to sen dit back to them...
