I ordered this product due to a disagreement concerning the replacement of my Macbook pro, one of a hundred with a rare logic board issue. After 4 months of use and final papers due right around the corner, I desperately needed to salvage the data on my hard drive, something that was not covered under AppleCare. I removed my hard drive and hooked it up to a friend's computer with this product. It was very easy to set up, no drivers required (for mac) and it quickly backed up my entire hard drive with no issues. I plan on taking out an old laptop hard drive of mine and use it as an external drive using the connector when i get the chance...

Handly little gizmo.......2006-07-29

Great for when you need to mount a SATA hard drive in a hurry without bothering with an external enclosure. (Mind you not many external enclosures support SATA internally anyway.)

I bought this converter because bad RAM crashed my PC and corrupted WinXP. Since I had to re-install Windows I upgraded my primary SATA hard drive, but I forgot to pull some important files from the old one. Enter this SATA-to-USB adapter. I just plugged in my old drive, it mounted like any other enclosure, and within in minutes I had copied my files.

Note that this device comes with a power brick that has a SATA power connector (not pictured). What's a bit odd is that the power supply has no power switch -- you just plug in your drive to power it up, and unplug the cord to power it down. This is not a problem, of course, but a switch might have been a practical addition.

The actual USB 2.0 performance seems good. I didn't benchmark it, but I had no trouble moving large 1-2GB files, which shouldn't be a problem with any USB 2.0 interface in principle, but I've had USB 2.0 enclosures that choke with big files or flake out from time to time. But not this one, apparently.

And excellent little gizmo.

no other word, awesome, excelent tool.

forget about opening your case, pluging the harddrive to your sata controller, and booting up. it is all on the fly, plug the sata to usb to the drive(sata and power), connect it to the pc, and plug the power to the UPS, and you are ready to extract, add, even format the drive.
