Designed for the Pro Shooters who us Canon D-30 & D-60s, Kodak 520, 620, 760 or DCS Pro Back, Fuji S-1 & S-2. or of course the Nikon D-100 digital cameras. The ProCap mounts to the camera with a special non-residue acrylic adhesive seal, to protect the delicate LCD screen. It is optically Clear so you do not have to remove the ProCap to utilize the LCD. ProHood slips over the ProCap's 2 mounting flanges to lock in place so that you can see the screen in virtually any lighting condition. Then slide in the Hoodmag magnifying insert to either of the bellows of the ProHood to enjoy up to 2x magnification of the screen, making it easier for you to view the tiny menus. (Note: fits 1.8" - 2" LCD screens).

The Amazon picture does not do this product justice. The "Hoodman SLR Pro Shooter Kit" (HSLR-3, UPC 1793221001) includes: (a) A "SLR Pro Cap" (sold separately as HSLR-2). This clear hard plastic 4.5x3.5x0.5 cm piece mounts over your LCD by a peel and stick adhesive around the edges. The main part of the piece does not touch your screen, which is nice. (b) A rubbery collapsible bellows that connects to four rounded protrusions at the corners of the HSLR2 without adhesive. It compresses when you press your face against it. (c) A semirigid black rectangular piece with a 2X circular magnifier in the center that can be inserted into the end of the bellows by your nose. With the magnifying insert in place it's hard to see the edges of the LCD screen unless your eye is very close (I wish the entire insert were clear just like the magnifier for the H-D1CM Nikon D-1 3-in-1 Combo), but the insert is good for reading menus. (d) A lanyard that can be inserted into a loop in the bellows to attach to your camera strap, although I can't imagine that many people would want to use it. (e) Wet-dry Hoodwipes to clean the LCD screen before mounting the HSLR2. (f) An advertisement for an "HSLR cap removal kit" if your HSLR2 is no longer wanted, but it seems like a plastic knife and transparent tape might work almost as well.

Overall, I think this may help you if you do slow-paced digital single lens reflex photography in strong sunlight. For landscapes, it sure beats a dark cloth (like for view cameras) over your head and over the SLR to keep the glare off the screen. However, for action photography the protrusion of the apparatus from the back of the camera - about 1.5 cm - causes you to tilt your head forward slightly to get your eye close enough to the viewfinder to take in the entire frame. With a non-SLR digicam you wouldn't worry about this too much since the LCD screen is "live," but I'm unfamiliar with any digital SLR that will allow you to use its LCD screen to compose your shots. And the pressure on your nose is bothersome if you look through the viewfinder for long periods of time.

You can increase the brightness of your LCD screen (if you're willing to have lower battery life) and shade it with your hand to see it OK in intense light. If those maneuvers haven't been working for you, however, buy this kit from Amazon.com!
