Product Description
Place the Panasonic BL-C30A Wireless Network Camera on a WLAN in your home or office and view it from a remote location--anywhere. Just go to your permanent assigned site!
These cameras can be viewed and controlled from a standard Web browser, video display, or even a compatible cell phone or PDA. Place them in your home, office, vacation home or almost anywhere else that you'd like to keep an eye on things, with no PC required on location! They are easy to install and operate and require no additional software for the PC that you're viewing them on. Each camera also comes with a free Web address, which can track the camera automatically. All you need is a regular Web browser to view them on your PC, as all of the other required software, including control software (TCP/UDP) and e-mail software (SMTP), is already inside the camera.
This camera can communicate wirelessly with standard 802.11b or 802.11g wireless devices, allowing the flexibility to install and operate the camera without running network wires, and utilizing SSID filtering and powerful 40/64/128 bit WEP encryption helps to protect your wireless network from illegal intrusion.
Just plug-n-play with auto configuration. Once connected, using a simple Web browser, just enter in your free, permanent Web address which comes with the camera and you can see and move the camera! It's that simple.
With the built-in heat sensor, the camera can be set to record and/or notify you by email when someone enters the room. It can even automatically move to a preset location when triggered, just in case someone was viewing a different part of the room.
With the built in Privacy mode, your privacy is protected by simply pressing a button. An indicator on the front of the camera turns red, and you know at a glance that the camera is now only accessible by you2. The camera can also be set up to show a green light when the camera is being accessed.
Customer Reviews:
So far so good..........2007-07-03
Easy to set up under linux - I used wine for the first steps of the installation and then realized I could most of it from the camera's built-in web server. Nice...
Image quality is nice. The ability to change parameters such as image quality on the fly from the web interface is very convenient.
The heat sensing/live movement detection feature works like a charm. You can even configure it to take a series of stills when it's triggered.
The pan/tilt feature is great -- I find myself wishing it could pan a bit further to the left and right but... I also find myself wishing that it had infrared capability (night vision) and high quality optical zoom and...that it would make breakfast for me in the morning, etc... Frankly, it does the job quite well given the price.
Wireless range doesn't seem to be an issue - the camera is at one end of the house and the router at the other end -- haven't had any problems with them seeing each other. By the way, it retains its configuration when powered up and down - seems like an obvious feature a camera should have - but I figured it might be worth noting this one can be in the box for days on end and then plugged back in and it retains its settings...
In short, I recommend it - I haven't been let down thus far.
Excellent low cost IP camera choice.......2007-06-27
Very easy to set up (took less than 30 minutes from opening the box to watching live the images).
Great value. Works exactly as promissed. If you need better image quality, consider cameras with price starting at USD1,000. IF not, this is the best you can get for under USD 500.
Viewnetcam site is easy to set up and is 100% free, different from Lynksys that charges you after one year...
Definetly will get the newer version with sound...
Obsolete security.......2007-06-12
This camera doesn't support the newer form of wireless security (WPA), but only the older and no-longer-secure WEP. In order to use this camera on my wireless network, I'd have to use the outdated WEP for the entire network, not just the camera.
Panasonic Wireless 802.11 b/g Network Camera (BL-C30A).......2007-06-02
I purchased this camera for the purposes of using it to monitor my house while at work. After getting the camera to work by changing my router security to a less secure setting, I thought I could live with that.
When I got to work the next day, our IT security has the settings set to not allow Active X plugins. This made the camera useless as I was not able to view any of the images that it produced.
The set-up was pretty straight forward except for the security settings drawback. The software worked well for setting up the angle and viewing of objects with the camera and was overall pretty good.
Poor Performer.......2007-05-16
Camera very slow to respond to commands. Needs to be reset almost daily. Picture quality not as good as my other Linksys 54G cameras. Can't connect at all most of the time.

Customer Reviews:
Good Camera ..bad manual.......2007-05-16
Bought this camera and got it installed in no time. Camera images are clean, and low light images are very good. That surprised me giving the price. It's totally configurable by web browser, and I've adjusted settings and viewed images via explorer 7 and fire fox.
The issues I have with this camera is its documentation and remote access over the net. Documentation is weak and if you run into config problems......you're dead. Unless you are versed in network configuration etc. I thought I was until I came across this camera....boy that took awhile. Accessing it over the internet requires configuring my router to allow port forwarding etc.
As for getting emails..?....I've yet to get one with images. The only emails I obtain is its reports of how many pix it takes everyday. I really wish that I have better support somewhere for this side and I would be fine.
But again, over the local lan...its great.
No need for Windows or Internet Explorer, it's a Network Camera.......2007-04-14
The BL-C1A is listed as "requiring" both Windows and Internet Explorer. After a bit of experimenting, it seems it doesn't, and is perfectly usable with Ubuntu (or indeed any OS) and Firefox. No need for Windows at all.
So, for anybody else who wants to use the BL-C1A camera with something other than Windows here's how.
First, ignore the shiny Windows CDROM in the box. Plug the camera into your router with your own network cable (they don't supply one!) and plug in the power supply. Wait a minute. If your router is 192.168.0.1, the camera should default to 192.168.0.253 (or 192.168.1.253 for a 192.168.1.1 router, etc).
From Firefox on the local network just go to the IP addess of the camera (as above) followed by ?mode=local and you should get the camera's built in web server. (The mode=local is essential, to activate it). Create an admin userid/password, hit enter. That's it.
Configuring the cameras for static addresses, different ports etc is all done via the web interface after that point, so still doesn't need Windows or IE in any way.
With a few lines written in the manual they could drop the Windows/IE requirement.
Camera works very nicely, and so does emailing, and the viewnetcam dynamic dns service (after a bit of a battle with router settings). One warning: you can't test the viewnetcam service from the same network that the camera is on, so before you think it's not working try it from elsewhere!
Camera does the job fine for the price, one point deducted for not having any non-Windows installation instructions.
Great for Home Security.......2007-04-06
I recently bought 2 BL-C1A's and 1 Panasonic Remote Video Monitoring Webcam (BL-C10A) , the big difference according to the specs is the BL-C10A can pan/tilt, the BL-C1A can't. The BL-C10A is double the price of the BL-C1A thou. But after setting up all 3 cameras I was surprised to find out the BL-C1A's have sensitivity settings for the motion detection feature, and they work Great! The BL-C10A is missing the ability to adjust the motion sensitivity. Another difference I noticed was the BL-C1A handles low light better, althought it says both handle low light the same the images on the BL-C1A seem brighter in low light.
Setting the cameras up to see each other was easy and now i can remote in and see all 3 camera's at the same time. I have sensors setup on all 3 and they work great. Now when I am at work I can alway check on my house and my family. I have images emailed to me everytime the motion sensors go off. I have also tested the image to cell phone feature and it does work fine but even with a good phone its sometime hard to see the images on a phone. Email works best in my opinion, and sense most phones can check email you can still get to the image they are just not scaled down to a phone size.
I highly recommend this camera especialy if you want to use it for motion sensing. If you must have pan/tilt the BL-C10A is also great but you lose some control on the motion sensor sensitivity.
IT is not so great.......2007-03-09
Well in performance I don't think it is a big deal, but I'm comparing it with an axis 206. For it's price it is ok, at least if it is all that matters, but I rather prefer an axis camera.
Pros:
nice look
price
Cons:
not so high fps
not so well quality of image(but ok for it's price)
And about the software, I don't know, I don't use it.
Conclusion:
If you just want it for monitorig not so big areas it will do the job, and about it's zoom not a big deal.Just remember that it is cheap!!!!
Impressive for the price.......2007-02-06
I was impressed with the quality of this camera for the price. I am currently using it as a remote baby monitor. It was cheaper than the video monitors they sell for babies, and it's more versatile once I"m done using it for that purpose. The best part of it is the back end functionality, but overall it's a nice camera. Some points:
1. Triggers - you can set the camera up to send photos via email or FTP whenever motion is sensed, or at a regular interval. I'm saving photos on my web server whenever the baby moves (with 10 minutes between each snapshot), and then I have a job that creates a time-lapse movie at the end of each day. Useful? Not really, but pretty cool regardless.
2. Web Server - The web server is solid, includes authentication, and is easy to configure for inexperienced users.
3. Image quality - The image quality during the day is surprisingly good - but remember, this isn't a large lens camera, it's a webcam. Don't expect your 640x480 images to look like they were taken with your digital camera. Instead, think camera phone but slightly better. Certainly good enough. Motion video is impressive. I don't know how it looks from a bandwidth perspective, but I'm guessing the wireless version of this camera would be comparable. "Color Night Vision" is a joke, though. It does adjust surprisingly well in low-light conditions, but overall you need light. If you have a very dim room, the image is literally black.
Again, overall I'm impressed with the camera and feel it's a good value.

Customer Reviews:
It works as advertised.......2007-05-17
I have experience with D-Link cameras, and this one is much better. Setup was a multi-step process, but went smoothly, and the free internet address really works. The camera has yet to lose signal, and I have it positioned a the farthest end of my wirelss network. Picture is clear, sound is ok, interface is very good. Only works well with Internet Explorer. On a Mac, the video will display in Firefox but without sound. I haven't expored all of the features yet, but the main thing is that it works (more than can be said for many wireless products).
This camera rocks!.......2007-05-14
Panasonic did a kick-a** job on this one. I guess the prevous model, the no-sound BL-C30A has been around for a while, but this one, the BL-C131A adds sound and I get the impression a better web interface. Easy enough to set up, full of features that took a little bit to learn, but now easy enough to use. I especially like that the cam can store something like 130 images in time and in motion detect buffers (depends on image size). Once you set these up it is cool to look back in time and see what happened. Motion detect is configurable in many ways, as is the periodic timer. I have not tried multiple cams yet, but you can configure one IP address to access several cameras they say. I just ordered a second camera. The microphone is very sensitive - awesome. I get pretty decent frame rate from my home using RoadRunner cable modem -- several images per second. I get a good wireless connection from anywhere in my house, including the garage. Can't say enough good things about this camera. Thanks Panasonic!

Customer Reviews:
Fry and Panasonic have terrible customer support.......2007-06-18
I ordered this Camera from Fry's online. It arrived with no AC adapter. Fry blamed it on shipping at Panasonic. They wanted to charge me for another one and return the one I had. I can not even take it back to a local Fry store. I am told by customer insult that they are 2 different companies.
The worst part is neither Fry's or Panasonic have a forum to rate their support or their products. They can continue to provide terrible service and no one will know any better.
I applaud Amazon for having this forum. I will order this camera through Amazon. I will also order all my online electronics at Amazon.
Great webcam for remote monitoring.......2007-06-09
This product works as described and is easy to set up and control. Works just fine on Macs as well. Safari works fine with it.
keeps an eye on the house.......2007-05-19
I bought this because I was going to be living in another country for a couple months and wanted to keep an eye on the place.
It worked great, they give you a website that you can go to (with your password) and control the camera from. It moves up, down, and side to side. It does adjust for light, which worked well from dim to bright light, but it does not have any night vision, so once it's dark and your lights are off (mine were on a timer), you can't see anything. Also, it doesn't shoot tasers at anyone trying to rob the house, so if you do catch someone inside, all you can do is call the police and take a snapshot (assuming they didn't already find and unplug the camera).
The only warning I would give is that you need to make sure you have a router within an ethernet cable's distance of where you want to put it. If you're not sure, it's probably worth springing the extra $50 and getting the wireless version.
Great Camera.......2007-03-29
Bought 2 of these to watch over my house while I am at work. Setup is pretty easy, but be prepared to wait a minute after changed settings, many changes when you initial setup the camera require it to restart. Camera's work great together and the free use of [...] to access the cameras is nice. Setting up timers and sensor emails/ftp is pretty straight forward but will require a user to test and retest to get the settings just right.
Pros: Price is good for a ip camera with tilt/pan. viewnetcam.com feature is a great addition to the camera package. Works great with similar model panasonic cameras.
Cons: Multiple restarts while setting up or making changes(minor issue), limited online support/how-to's.
Great Security Monitoring Tool and Software.......2007-03-20
Having just purchased a Security Camera/DVR all-in-one system, I am now more impressed with this Panasonic. I wanted a system that would record when my PC was turned off, so I bought one of the "all-in-one" systems. The software on that system is abysmal, which gave me newfound appreciation for the tools bundled with this Panasonic. First is the built-in web server, which allows you to view and control (pan and tilt) the camera over the Internet, if you have your network configured correctly. Plus, there is an included utility, "Network Camera Recorder" which lets you schedule and review video recorded to a Windows PC. You can slow down and speed up while you are looking for the miserable yahoos attempting to steal something from your property.
The camera can also upload JPEGs to an FTP server, which can provide a backup source of data.
Finally, the clarity of the image on this camera is far superior to the cameras that came with my security system, although they are both advertised to be 640x480.
The only real drawback is that this camera cannot be installed outdoors.

Customer Reviews:
Excellent Camera! and it is wireless under the right settings.......2007-03-18
This is a great camera. At first i had problems connecting it wirelessly but after working with a tech support rep from Panasonic we figure out that it was my "shared" network setting instead of "open". After he told me to change this voila! i was able to setup my three BL-C20 cameras and they are great!
Good camera, poor wireless.......2007-01-11
This is a good camera, with good resolution and options. It works really great... As long as it's wired. The wireless feature just didn't work for me, the image kept freezing and I had to reset the camera everytime. I have tried it with 2 different routers so I guess that's not the problem. Anyway if this was the wired version (as I'm using it right now) I probably would have given it 5 stars. I spent a lot more money to get a wireless camera that doesn't work as expected.

Product Description
The camera's built-in sensor is a pyroelectric infrared sensor, which means it uses infrared rays to detect temperature differences within its range that are emitted naturally by people, animals, etc. The sensor can be used to trigger the camera to buffer (i.e., temporarily store) camera images in its memory. You can view these images later as desired. The sensor can also be used to trigger the camera to transfer images to someone or somewhere, by FTP, E-mail, or HTTP. Privacy mode allows you to protect your privacy by hiding the lens inside the camera, preventing camera images from being seen. If users are accessing the camera when privacy mode is turned on, the camera image area displayed in their web browsers turns gray. No camera pages can be accessed by users while privacy mode is turned on. Once privacy mode is turned off, users can press the refresh button in their web browsers to view images again. Excellent high-quality outdoor web cam.......2007-04-01
I had first purchased a couple of Panasonic BL-30C wireless web cams to keep an eye on a vacation house that is far away from us. I wanted to put one outside too and decided to give this one a try against the weather. It was a bit harder to set up than the BL-30c, but after a few trial and errors and some persistence, I managed to get this one going too. The picture quality is very impressive and the audio is a nice optional feature! Very clear viewing in the daytime, and good night mode too. It has been reliable, and I am very pleased I bought it.
Bad Quality Camera.......2007-02-10
I am extremely unhappy with this camera. On the surface, the camera looks great--it offers SD recording, wireless connectivity, and remote management. But this is a really poorly made camera with poor supporting software. Firstly, it took me 3 nights trying to set this up--and I'm a long time techie. I followed the directions EXACTLY... got wired connection working fine... but the wireless was terrible. The camera kept telling me it wouldn't connect, even though I had all the settings correct. I even reset my wireless router to setup the most basic wireless LAN, and it still didn't work. Then all of a sudden, for no apparent reason it worked. Garbage. I still don't know why it worked.
The remote management was interesting and I like the fact that it let me control and move the camera remotely. It also lets you setup specific times to allow "triggers"... but the trigger software is spotty. The sensitivity controls for when the triggers set off didn't work well at all and it basically capture everything or nothing. Axis has much better event management software.
Finally, the picture quality is TERRIBLE. It claims that it can record up to VGA at 12 frames/sec, but it doesn't even COME close to that... at VGA it records maybe 1 or 2 frames/sec at best. Even at that quality there are noticeable artifacts and blurriness. I researched all the other cameras at this price level and amazingly this seemed that it had the best specs, but I suppose there's no subsitution for first hand experience. This is a terrible camera... I ended up buying the Axis 207w. It doesn't have movement capabilities, but for half the price, it's picture quality is 2x better and setup was a breeze.
Defective camera, lousy service.......2006-12-16
I already have two Panasonic BL-C30A cameras that work ok, though not perfectly (see below). I purchased the BB-HCM371A for use outside the house. However, when I connected it to my router I got a blinking red light. According to the installation manual that indicates an internal malfunction. Although it appeared that I got a defective product I decided to contact Panasonic service to see if I was missing something. First, I sent an email and quickly got a typical reply, probably automated. The reply was simply to connect the camera to the router exactly as described in the manual, which of course I had already done. So then I called the 800 number. The automated answering service was one of the worst I have ever encountered - asking me to describe the problem in normal language but then unable to understand what I was saying. It was almost a parody of an automated answering service and I finally gave up in disgust without ever getting through to a real person. I am returning the camera to Amazon for a refund. I will definitely not purchanse this camera again and cannot recommend it.
I have had better luck with my two BL-C30A cameras but it does have some annoying bugs. For example, when accessing the camera over the internet it automatically recenters which can be quite aggravating if you want it pointing to the side.
Excellent video webcam.......2006-02-20
I looked for a long time for a remote camera to keep an eye on a vacation residence. Reviews of other similar cameras like the Toshiba IK-WB11A were spotty at best especially when using in wireless mode. Panasonic cameras seemed to get good reliability reviews, so when an outdoor wireless-G came out I decided to give it a try. I had some difficulty getting the ports forwarded through my router. The directions are pretty sparse when it comes to setting up your router. I guess there is a fair variability in how each different router is set up. Once that problem was solved it has been rock solid. In the 4 months I have had it running, I only had to reset it once, after a 3 day power failure. Actually, I think it was the router, not the camera that needed to be reset, but I reset everything. It does everything it is advertised to do although I don't use the audio feature. The motion detection feature works better than other webcam security software that I have tried.

Product Description
Network setup is simple, as the camera management system automatically configures up to 16 Panasonic network cameras (IP address, port number, etc.), enables Internet access, creates a custom portal page and enables multi-level security control. A customized, flexible network for your computing environment is made possible by 802.11b/g wireless communication as well as four switched Ethernet connections. The system automatically configures the network connection for up to 128 computers or devices, and additional devices can be manually added.Buying additional broadband accounts and installing new wiring to get all of your network devices online is costly and cumbersome. With a Panasonic network, you can simplify the process by connecting multiple devices to the Internet through a single cable or DSL line. The camera management system's built-in firewall helps protect every network computer from hackers. Use the system with a Virtual Private Network (VPN) server to access a corporate or secure network. You can also customize the firewall to best suit the needs of your home or small business. The Camera Management System is compatible with standard 802.11b/g wireless devices, giving you the flexibility to add many standard devices to your network. Powerful 64/128/152-bit WEP encryption helps protect your wireless network from illegal intrusion. The system can use SSID, stealth SSID (hidden SSID, permitting/not permitting connection using the ANY key), MAC address filtering and open system/shared key exchange to limit access to the wireless network. The BB-HGW700A automatically adds the image from up to 16 cameras on a single web page which can be used from a local network or even the Internet. For easy access, just click a camera image on the camera portal page and that camera's individual screen will open allowing you to view and control that camera easily.

Better than the others.......2006-08-18
I've used Linksys and DLink wireless routers for years. I wanted easy remote access to network cameras at my home and this did that trick. It also has better VOIP forwarding performance and has turned out to be more reliable than either of the popular brands listed above. A great product that I'll use in the future with or without cameras.

Customer Reviews:
Happy Owner.......2007-04-14
I bought this camera so that the grandparents of my children can watch and hear them play from the other side of the earth. The benefits of something like this is that it is very simple: just connect, set a few things, and anyone with the right login/password can look at the camera and audio streamed live in a web browser. I was looking for 3 things: ease of use, quality, and featurs, in this order.
Ease of Use:
Ease of use was the most important thing to me because I've tried the route of sharing out a webcam on a computer. The results were poor to say the least. And leaving a computer turned-on 24/7 seemed like a waste. This network camera is another story altogether. It's a rectangular box and the only connections needed are the power and ethernet cables. If you want to hear what the watcher have to say, you can connect an external speaker to the output jack. Network configuration was very easy as the setup software quickly found the camera on the network as soon as I connected it. After a few quick configurations and installing an ActiveX control on the browser, I had fully streamed video/audio on the LAN. Getting the grandparents setup amounted to sending them an email with the URL, login id/password, and to say "Install/Run" when the ActiveX pop-up is shown. In less than a minute, they were seeing live footage of my livingroom complete with rampaging kids. The camera consumes very little power so it can be left on even when no one is watching it.
Quality:
At this price point, quality is often the casualty of tradeoffs as manufacturers try to cram in more eye-catching features. But I have the opinion that no amount of features will make up for poorly exposed, blury, noisy, or jerky video. Packed with a CCD sensor, the BB-HCM311A offers video quality that is better than the cheaper CMOS type. In fact, it uses the same CCD sensor on the much more expensive cameras in Panasonic's line. The camera also offers 15fps at 640x480 and a full 30fps at 320x240. You will have to spend much more money to get appreciably better video performance. The stream feed produced by this camera is also very efficient, able to provide the full rated fps when viewed through another broad-band connection. While I don't know what the grandparents are seeing half a world away, they report that the video is fluid at 320x240 and "less so" at 640x480. The audio is voice-grade, about as clear as the best local telephone service you can imagine. There is about a second of delay in the stream, but the video and audio are in-sync. Given the relative price of this camera, I am very happy with its performance. The build quality of the camera is also good judging by the look and feel of the case and pan/tile mechanism.
Features:
Between quality and features, I preferred quality versus features. Two key features that I would have liked but went without are optical zoom, and wireless network connection. However, optical zoom is typically only available on much more expensive cameras if you want to maintain the video quality. I also decided against wireless network connection because Panasonic only offers WEP security, which is completely unacceptable for my WPA-AES secured wireless LAN. Instead, I purchased a Netgear "game adapter" that is essentially an ethernet-to-802.11b/g bridge with built in WPA-AES security. While this solution is not as simple and elegant, but it cost less and is far more secure. Aside from these two features, the camera has all of the other features I was looking for: remote controlled pan/tilt, audio, camera position presets, and encrypted streaming. The included mount is simple but effective, allowing for easy adjustment of the camera's default position.
I was initially kind of weary about spending this much money for what is essentially a webcam. But having used this camera for a few weeks, I think the price is well worth what this unit does and does so well.
Looks Good "But Don't Be Fooled"........2006-08-20
I looked for a camera such as this one for quite a while, don't be fooled by the rating for your digital zoom, it pixles out so bad after just one or two times magification. If, I had known how bad it was I wouldn't have bought two of them. Only buy IP Cameras with Optical Zoom's.Learning was expensive.......
