Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Works as good as any DialUp!.......2006-10-03

This is a dial up modem people. They are all slow. Faster means you can do one load of laundry while site loads, verses two loads of laundry. Get DSL or cable if you want fast. This modem does exactly what it says and depending on your area and ISP it can go a Tiny bit faster than some modems.

I give it 5 stars because I never had any issues with this modem, just my ISP. I have moved on to cable, because I surf a lot. If you're a surfer, spend the $50 a month and get cable. Otherwise stop whining and go do a load of laundry:)

1 out of 5 stars no speed advantage; uninstalling was a disaster.......2006-06-06

I bought the modem for 2 reasons: everything was supposed to be faster (making the connection, downloading, etc) and the modem-on-hold feature. Comparing it with my 7-year-old generic modem, the connection time with the Blaster modem is only about a second faster. Downloads are definitely not faster, and may be slower; phone line conditions vary, so it's impossible to say for sure. Definitely not enough speed advantage to make it worth the money!

The modem-on-hold feature is interesting; I've not seen any other modem that advertised outgoing modem-on-hold. I had the opportunity to try both the outgoing and incoming only once each. They worked fine, but they're limited by the time limit the ISP imposes; in my case, 3.5 minutes per call. Caller ID worked also, on the incoming call.

Here's the real problem: Because I felt the download speeds were slower than my previous modem, I removed the Blaster and reinstalled my old modem. As soon as I tried to use the old modem, the computer went into reset. Removing the software and the drivers didn't make any difference; the only way to start the computer was with no modem installed. With both modems out, I uninstalled drivers and the MOH software. Ran Norton Systemworks trying to clean up any left over mess. Tried everything I could think of, but as soon as I reinstalled my old modem and the driver for it, the computer went into reset. I finally had to use my backup software to restore the computer to the way it was before I installed the Blaster modem. Everything worked fine then, using my old modem.

1 out of 5 stars Very Slow.......2005-10-18

I bought this modem with the anticipation of a little faster hook up than my original v-90. However, I was very disappointed in the speed and most of the websites I would go to never fully loaded. After running some diagnostics and upgrading whatever software I could, there was still no improvement. I sent it back and bought a cheaper US Robotics which works great

3 out of 5 stars Mixed Results.......2005-09-06

I bought the PCI version, (DI5631) and at first couldn't get it to even load a single page. Then I noticed it was trying to load CREATIVE's own site. The software had changed my home page! I do NOT like that.
In addition, the 'extra' software included on the CD requested a serial number... One I never saw anywhere, nor was there anything telling me where to find it.
Once I changed my home page back to my ISP's proper home page, the modem seemed to work well enough... but seems no faster than the one I had before. I will have to do more checking to see if different times of day have any effect on this.
One last item... The "TAD" cable. There wasn't one.
Overall... I am not at all sure this modem was worth my trouble, given that I had a working V.90 modem already. For someone who is still in the dark ages, (33kbs type or older) this modem MAY be a worthwhile upgrade. For most everyone else, I think it's probably NOT worth the money. (By the wat, Creative DOES offer a full, DSP version for PCI, and that one may be a better choice) The one I bought is HSP, not DSP. (HSP means your computer does a lot of the work, DSP means the modem does most of it)

3 out of 5 stars OKAY.......2005-01-21

I bought a Creative Modem Blaster External Serial a while ago (I don't remember when.) At first I couldn't get the Netwaiting to work right, even though I have call waiting and caller id. But later I reinstalled it and it worked. And for some reson Netwaiting doesn't work again (I've been downloading many things such as a new Opera browser.) But It was great while it lasted. However the faxing software doesn't work when you're using the modem to connect to the internet. This is great if you know how to download it. Also beware when upgrading your computer.
