Customer Reviews:
JVC TH-A35 Executive Home Theater System (Silver).......2005-01-14
When I viewed this product in my local electronics store I initially thought that this would be an extremely good buy for the price..... until I got it home and was halfway through my first movie. Basically the fan kicked in which is extremely noisy (not forgetting that this system isn't the loudest in relation to volume by any means) The sporadic fan activation is a real annoyance when your viewing DVDs. Unfortunately of late it has now started skipping\freezing for a split second when playing (and I don't mean playing old DVDs, new ones fresh out of the box!!) I have returned this item 4 times already, had the laser unit replaced, the fan and various other bits and bobs that the sales guys wasn't sure about .I was cautious enough to take out a 5 year guarantee on this model do I think I may be due a few return trips yet !!! Unfortunately I'm stuck with this until JVC deem it "Unfixable" My advice.....Think twice before you buy this unit.
Rated for what it is........2004-09-24
I was very particular about what I wanted in a home theater system, and Optical input was at the top of my list. I also wanted to keep the expense way down. The only thing this system did not offer that I wanted was an active subwoofer (The sub in this system is passive), but that was at the bottom of my list, so I ordered the unit.
The system is stylish and makes a good immediate impression. I firmly believe that dollar for dollar, this unit can not be beat. It is not intended for, and will not work well for high volume. If you just want moderate volume, and digital 5.1 surround however, this system packs a nice bang for the buck.
Setup is a snap. The subwoofer is just a wee bit weak, and there are no bass and treble adjustments. The system has played every DVD I have thrown at it, and handles DTS 5.1 flawlessly. MP3 playback has gone without a hitch, and the MP3 menu system is simple and intuitive.
All in all I believe you would need to spend three bills or more to surpass this package.
Good quality, with some operational downsides.......2004-05-30
I got this system to use 5.1 digital audio through its optical input. For the price, it is definately a good deal for a home theater system, but if your just getting it for the speaker set up, go with the Logitech z680s. The sub is not powered (it just takes left and right like all the other speakers), the remote control was sluggish, and the onscreen menu was extremely limited. The dvd picture and the sound was high quality, and the speakers were small and sturdy.
good home theater system overall

Product Description

The TH-M55 also has component video output for the best possible video reproduction, as well as 5, 2-way satellite speakers' large mid-bass drivers for improved sound and a 120 watt subwoofer. Finally, the TH-M55 comes with an optical digital in for use with satellite dishes and digital cable system for a complete home theater package.
Amazon.com Product Description
Sure, it's stylish--but wait 'til you see its picture and hear how it sounds. The TH-M55 DVD home theater from JVC features the world's smallest 5-disc DVD changer to employ JVC's Direct Digital Progressive-Scan technology. The system also features built-in Dolby Digital, DTS, and Dolby Pro Logic II 5.1-channel surround processing with a multichannel surround speaker setup to envelop you in luscious sound from movies and music. You can even play your recordable CDs filled with MP3 files or JPEG digital photos.
For thunderous sound at loud levels and clear, full-bodied sound at quiet levels, the TH-M55 pumps out 100 watts x 5 (front left/right, center, left/right surrounds), and comes with a stand-alone 120-watt powered subwoofer.
The TH-M55's high-resolution component-video output delivers the best possible video reproduction to compatible high-definition and HD-ready televisions and monitors, while an optical digital-audio input accommodates stereo and multichannel audio feeds from digital satellite systems and DTV set-top boxes.
Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. The Direct Digital Progressive Scan feature is defeatable so you can use the component-video outputs with non-HD-ready compatible TVs. Composite- and S-video jacks facilitate hookup with most other sets in use today.
The system's front, center, and rear satellites use a 2-way design, each incorporating a 4-inch woofer and a tweeter housed in a real-wood cabinet. The powered subwoofer pounds out the low-frequency effects for your 5.1-channel DVDs and Dolby Pro Logic II-processed music using a single 6.3-inch driver and a ported, bass-reflex cabinet.
A 4-mode digital acoustic processor (DAP) simulates different sonic environments, which you can adjust on a program-by-program basis. The onboard digital FM/AM tuner offers 45 station presets (30 FM and 15 AM), and the supplied full-function remote control also operates most brands of TV and VCR. Simplifying your installation and hookup is the system's single-cable data feed and color-coded speaker wires.
What's in the Box
DVD player/integrated surround amplifier, 5 satellite speakers, a powered subwoofer, a remote control, remote batteries, a user's manual, and all requisite cabling.
Customer Reviews:
Unbelievable!!.......2004-12-03
First of all, I ordered this system refurbished from Overstock.com. The price was $219.00 (unfortunately no longer available, although they do have a similar system called the TH-M45 as of December 3, 2004). I honestly cannot believe I got so much power, clarity, and in-depth features for such a low price. Amazon's price is higher than Overstock.com, so that is something to keep in mind.
The system is easy to set up and to use, and best of all, it sounds like you are in a movie theatre! I am watching U-571 right now, and my whole room is vibrating with bass from the powerful subwoofer included.
Pros:
1. Comes with everything you need for an easy setup. (speaker stands not included)
2. 5-disc DVD/CD/MP3 changer is very convenient.
3. Great remote control.
4. Excellent features.
5. Sounds just as good as $1000+ systems (I've heard higher priced systems (such as Bose) before, and the TH-M55 is just as good)
6. Stylish design
Cons:
1. No separate volume control for left and right front speakers. (all other speakers can be individually tuned).
2. Minor problems with DVD player (has reset once and frozen once, but doesn't seem to be a major problem).
If you find this system for a good price (retail is $550 at jvc.com), then don't even think about a Bose. The JVC-TH-M55 is just as good!
UPDATE
I've had this system for about two weeks now, and I think it would be helpful to update my previous review by adding that the DVD player continues to reset during playback and freeze occasionally. It doesn't do it more than twice per DVD, but it is sometimes frustrating. I did a little research and it seems that other people with this same DVD player have had the same problem, so it may be an engineering flaw by JVC.
I consider the problem to be tolerable, but perhaps it is helpful for consumers to know about this problem.

An unbeatable bargain, JVC's DS-TP682 complete home theater system includes a stand-alone, slim-design 5-disc DVD/CD changer (model XV-M5GSL), a silver 100-watts x 5 surround receiver (model RX-5032SL) with Dolby Digital, DTS, and Dolby Pro Logic II processing, and 5 matching silver satellite speakers bolstered by an 8-inch, 120-watt powered subwoofer.
JVC's XV-M5GSL plays not only DVD and CD, it's also compatible with DVD-/+RW, DVD-R, CD-R/RW, VCD/SVCD, MP3 music files, and digital still photos (JPEG on CD-R/RW). Don't let its slim design fool you--the XV-M5GSL is packed with exciting features. The player is optimized for the higher audio sampling frequency of 192 kHz, providing extra-wide dynamic range to realize the benefits of high-spec sources. The 10-bit, 54 MHz super-high video-sampling frequency ensures detailed images and clear, pure colors for DVD movies.
In addition, with 7 parameters to adjust, the XV-M5GSL's Video Fine Processor (VFP) provides exceptional versatility in fine-tuning images to personal preferences. The player's high-resolution onscreen graphical user interface (GUI) allows Windows-like interactive operation with tool bars superimposed onto the TV screen for simple point and click operation. Other convenience features include 1.5X playback with sound and 13-step high-quality zoom.
The RX-5032SL audio/video surround receiver pounds out 100 watts x 5 (into 8 ohms, at 1 kHz with no more than 0.8 percent THD; stereo mode sees 100 watts from 40 to 20,000 Hz). Fully Discrete output devices ensure optimum amplifier sound. Dolby Digital and DTS decoders are built-in, including Dolby Pro Logic II with full 5.1-channel digital processing for stereo sources. The unit offers bass and treble controls, 4 audio inputs, 1 assignable coaxial digital-audio input, 1 assignable optical digital-audio input, 15 AM and 30 FM station memory, and a multi-brand audio/video remote control.
The system's speakers consist of 5 silver, magnetically shielded satellite speakers (front, center, and surround). The silver, 8-inch slot-loaded powered polycone subwoofer boasts a 120-watt amplifier, an anti-clipping circuit, a variable volume control, a fixed-frequency low-pass filter optimized for the satellite speakers, and a single RCA line-level audio input. Color-coded speaker wire for all speakers makes setup as simple as possible.
Whether your living room is currently home to an HDTV or you're merely thinking of "someday," the XV-M5GSL DVD player stands ready to deliver the full potential of your DVDs. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts.
Top-of-the-line DVD component-video outputs help minimize digital and line-scan artifacts on compatible advanced televisions, while composite- and S-video outputs bring compatibility with nearly any television. (If your older TV has no colored RCA video input jacks, merely a threaded RF coaxial-type audio/video input, you'll need a video modulator/switcher, sold separately.)
What's in the Box
DVD player, an integrated surround amplifier, 5 satellite speakers, a powered subwoofer, a remote control, remote batteries, a user's manual, and all requisite cabling.

Amazon.com Product Description
Simplify and consolidate. If complicated hookups get you down and your home electronics are starting to take up too much space, JVC's RX-DV31SL combination DVD player and audio/video surround receiver might just be music to your ears... and eyes. The unit offers broad format compatibility--from standard DVDs to MP3 music and JPEG image CDs to high-resolution music from DVD-Audio titles--as well as high power, delivering a full 100 watts per channel to your existing stereo and/or surround-sound speaker system.
Most movies are stored on DVD at the rate of 24 frames per second. JVC's Digital Direct Progressive-Scan feature uses 3:2 pulldown detection to convert film-based DVDs into double density--60 frames per second--progressive-scan images for display on a high-definition or HD-ready television. The result is natural, smooth images with less noise and higher resolution. A single, ultra-high-performance chip featuring Adaptive Geometrical Chroma Mapping performs AV decoding for the system.
On the audio side, you get Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround passthrough and decoding, as well as Dolby Pro Logic II processing, which creates 5.1-channel signals from any stereo source. JVC includes a Digital Acoustics Processor (DAP) with 4 preset sound fields to digitally recreate the acoustics of specific concert venues, which you can use to enhance music or video programs of your selection.
Using quick speaker setup, just tell the receiver the number of speakers you're using and your room size, and the receiver will route your audio to the appropriate speaker and delay the output as needed to ensure time-aligned audio at your listening position.
DVD-Audio offers super high-fidelity (192 kHz/24-bit) sound. DVD-Audio music discs provide multichannel and stereo sound, incredible storage capacity, and unique bonus materials not available on regular audio CDs.
The receiver's Audio Position feature lets you set the subwoofer level for both 5.1- and 2-channel playback so you can enjoy one setting for a DVD's ".1" LFE (low-frequency effects) signal and another when you simply wish to extend the low-frequency response of your stereo listening system, as for enhanced music playback.
Customer Reviews:
JVC and Orb Speakers.......2006-01-29
Just to add to Hershon2004's review, with the Orb speakers, this is the best-sounding system I've ever owned. I have the Classic One Stereo Speakers (two satellite speakers and a subwoofer). Probably the best system under $1000.
If you have Orb Audio Speakers This isBetter than SomeDenons.......2005-02-21
If you have Orb Audio Mod 1 Speakers & their Super Eight Sub, this JVC DVD Receiver, that Orb recommends, will give you the best sound you've ever heard for playing CD's, DVD's, DVD-A & TV sound and is so far superior to the most expensive receiver brands such as some Denons (2105 in my personal opinion), Rotell, Yamaha, etc., its not funny. This is one case where you really are getting something for relatively next to nothing. Let me state emphatically that I don't work for Orb or JVC & if you don't have Orb speakers, I recommend you check out their web site, www.orbaudio.com as I can't vouch for how this receiver will sound with other speakers. This is an unsolicited endorsement from one extremely satisfied customer. When I first got this incredible JVC DVD Receiver I was absolutely astonished how great the sound was with my Orb speakers (if you don't have Orbs I can't guarantee they'll sound this good with other speakers)& to be honest I got greedy as I went to other audio forums and everyone was telling me that this JVC system technically sucks & what did I expect for the $200 to $450 for it, and I'd get far superior sound spending alot more moneyu money on a Denon, Rotell or Yamaha Receiver (which would also entail buying an additional progressive scan DVD player that plays DVD-A). Well I checked out these systems using the same Beatles Rubber Soul CD in a bunch of high end stores and this JVC system sounded better than all of these receivers some of which cost over $2,000! I even went so far as buying and then returning a Denon 2805 receiver, and a Marantz and Onkyo CD player. None of these sounded close to as good as the sound quality of this JVC unit with my Orb's. The bottom line is the designers/owners of Orb Audio know what they're talking about in recommending this system be used with their Orb's. Its also relatively easy to set up but if this is your first receiver, I'd recommend you have a friend set it up or pay someone from a stereo store to set it up.
The remote control is excellent and as I said this system rocks with Orb Audio Speakers. Postscript: I have since bought a Denon 3801 receiver which lists for $1200 but I bought used in excellent condition for $450 with shipping and the sound on the Denon is incredible, so if you have extra money by that!
Great so far........2005-01-07
I have had it for more than 6mths, so far no problems. It plays everything i throw at it...dvds, cds, cdr, vcd, svcd, dvdr+-..only thing it has problems with is dvd-rw(rewritables). Other than that it plays all, including all my dvd backups. I've never found heat to be a problem on this unit even after extended play. The tons of connection choices is a plus and has almost all the stuff in it...except some of the more obscure Dolby capabilities and thx. Another reason i got this unit was because it had a competent dvd player built in. I did not want to get another player and take up more space on my shelf. The receiver functions, though not extremely high end, does have most of what you need to build a decent and competent home theater. Some things I consider important that this has is DTS, DOLBY, and progressive scan. Pictures look great on my plasma with component outputs.
I got it for $159 so it was a good buy for me.
nice integrated receiver.......2004-04-16
It is too early to make detailed comments but seems to be working fine. It seems hot to touch after a while (but aren't all receivers like this)? Their mp3 supports 32 chars but no ID3 tag display. picture quality looks good on my analog TV. I like the fact that they give both optical and coaxial digital inputs for your game console, satellite etc (most integrated units have none or just the optical input). The sound quality is good through my Athena speakers, but I could attribute it to the quality of speakers. The speaker holes are too small for the 16 gauge cable I bought. I somehaow managed to cram it in. It provides 5 channel stereo for your music collection, (I guess an upgrade from their previous integrated model). Plays home made DVDs effortlessly. nice package for only $270.

Amazon.com Product Description
Equipped with a DVD/CD player that plays a variety of popular disc formats, the compact JVC FS-S77 is ideal for space-challenged homes and apartments. The unit measures only 6.31 inches thick--slightly larger than the average CD case--yet still plays DVD-Audio/Video, DVD-RW, CD, Super Video CD, Video CD, CD-R/RW, and MP3 formats. It also reads JPEG and WMA files and displays them on a connected TV screen. The combined features give users a solid home theater system for a moderate price.
The 100-watt system includes such essentials as electronic bass and treble tone controls, a 32-track programming memory, random and repeat play, four preset audio modes (pop, rock, jazz, and classical), a sleep timer, and CD synchro recording when connected to a recording device. The unit displays track information in an easy-to-read LCD window that glows in the dark. The FS-S77's flexibility extends to the tuner, which offers enough memory for 30 FM and 15 AM stations.
The FS-S77 is designed as a standalone unit, though it does include a front auxiliary input and a headphone jack. The dual full-range bass reflex speakers (50 watts x 2) each feature a 25-watt woofer and 25-watt tweeter to deliver rich, full-bodied sound.

Customer Reviews:
Simple, reliable and reasonably priced.......2006-07-07
This system is not the most sophisticated or powerful you can buy, but it represents a great value for the money. I've had no trouble operating it after a reasonably quick and simple installation.
A great feature is the multi-disk changer. After you've tried it you will wonder how you did without it. The ability to move from disk to disk without having to re-insert them is a huge conveinience factor.
Highly recommended!
Great Sound, Great Unit, Great Value.......2006-05-15
I have this in the bedroom connected to a 13" TV (it plays DVDs as well as CDs). The sound is great and it has a classy understated look. I am thinking of buying one for my office and once for the garage.
Question.......2006-05-02
First of all, let me say that I LOVE this stereo. Have had it for a year or two. I don't think you can do any better with this price range, and more. I highly recommend it.
I have a question - does anyone know whether this stereo plays dvd's of all regions? I tried to write JVC an email but didn't get any response.
Hopefully somebody has the answer!
Thanks.
Impressive.......2005-11-07
When I saw this component stereo system in a "Good Guys" store I was immediately impressed with the overall look of the thing. As I started toying with the floor model, I realized how versatile it was, and decided that it was something I wanted to own. Sadly, the floor model was the only unit left in the store, and there wouldn't be anymore coming since "Good Guys" was going out of business. That was not acceptable to me. So, I went elsewhere to find the same system.
When I found the item on-line, for a much better price, I was sold.
Getting it only took a few days, and it was delivered right to my place of work, for my convienence.
What impressed me the most about the unit was the sheer depth of sound it produced. When playing a movie with grand scenes and lots of special effects, the little system did not disappoint in giving a theatrical experience in sound.
Other features were also pretty cool to me, such as the LCD light. While it gave off a nice blue glow, it could be dimmed, which was a nice touch.
All in all, with all the features this device has, I am certain I will have many years of enjoyment. It is a great system for the right price and truly impressive.
Great system for your office or living room.......2005-08-16
I needed a small system for my office. I wanted removable speakers, good sound at all volumes and a sleek look. This system filled that void. I searched for about a month to get it, and there is nothing less than fantastic about this system, even the price.
In terms of sound, I can understand music at all volume levels (many cheaper systems distort at low levels) and at high volumes it sounds great. I can't use it at high volumes now that I've taken it to work, but I am thinking about buying another for my living room at home (run the output of my family room stereo and I'll have a system that sounds good in both places for parties).
In terms of looks, this system is very cool. I tried to downplay it by placing it behind my desk, on the shelf where I keep my food, so that people wouldn't question it (because small stereos are allowed but not everyone likes us having them). Despite my attempts to blend it in, I've received several complements on the way that it looks. Silver casing and a sleek design are just the basics, this system features a blue backlit display that looks great!
I thought that the "DVD" option in the stereo meant that you could play MP3s on DVD (a great idea for someone who wants to never have to change CDs), but in fact it meant that the system is a DVD player, and it has a video output to connect to your tv. That's a nice plus. I haven't tried the MP3 idea yet, so it may or may not support them.
The stock antenna is terrible, but so are most stereo antennas. I'll buy a new one soon... The other downside is that you can't switch between presets without the remote (you can change the station, but not using presets). But with 30 FM presets, I'll never run out! The only thing that wasn't obvious about the set-up is that the disk buttons (disk 1, disk 2, etc) on the stereo are the eject buttons, not the select buttons like most other stereos. Overall, this is a great design for a great stereo. I used to work at a radio station as the engineer and now I wish I had this back then because I could blast music in my office and really utilize the system the way it was meant to...

Amazon.com Product Description
The JVC DSTP582 home theater system brings full-bodied sound into your living room at a moderate price. Equipped with a progressive-scan DVD player, a powerful receiver (100 watts x 5, plus 100-watt subwoofer), five matching satellite speakers, and a 6-inch subwoofer, the system enriches your movies and music with thundering audio and a sharp, crisp picture. The satellite speakers, each featuring a minicube design with cloth grilles, are magnetically shielded to prevent video interference.
The system incorporates many of the premier features of home theater technology, including progressive scan, which produces a better picture by completely scanning each movie frame (rather than interlacing frames), and compatibility with Dolby Digital, DTS, and Pro Logic II formats. The DSTP582 also employs discrete audio channels for superior audio, along with JVC's exclusive digital acoustic processor, which enables the receiver to digitally re-create the acoustic environments of live performances. JVC's CompuLink feature enhances compatibility, letting you hook up other JVC products and operate them via the TV.
Other features include an AM/FM tuner with 45 presets (15 AM and 30 FM), a fluorescent display, and complete bass and treble controls. The system connects to other components via the two digital inputs (one optical and one coaxial), dual composite and S-video inputs and outputs, a component-video output, and four audio inputs. Setup is quick and easy thanks to the color-coded speaker wire and easy-to-understand instructions. The system comes with a multibrand remote and carries a two-year warranty on the receiver and speakers, with a one-year warranty on DVD parts and 90 days on the DVD labor.

Great sounding system.......2005-02-15
This product is very easy to set up. It sounds great with video games, as well as movies.
I have an average sized living room, which is 12*15, but yet I had to buy addiontal speaker cable.
Also had to pay about $100 for mounting brackets since they do not come with them. Something to consider when trying to be cost effective. It just may have made a difference in whether or not I would have still bought this item.
A Great Low Price Home Theater.......2004-12-28
I bought this for Christmas and it is great! The sound is wonderful, especially the surround sound for dvds. Sounds just like you're in a theater! It wasn't even that bad to set up, except for dealing with all the speaker wire! The sound is excellent. The only two problems are I wish the front left and right speakers had more speaker wire and I wish the remotes glowed in the dark. Other than that an excellent system.
Just what the doctor ordered........2004-07-14
For years I've been watching movies with the TV's speaker -- which is mono. Here's why I picked this unit:
* Digital inputs. This was crucial.
* Powered subwoofer.
* 600w output. It's in a small room, but I wanted room to grow
* When I bought it, there was free shipping -- at 50-70 pounds, surround systems cost a ton to ship.
I hooked it up, and it sounds incredible! I'm probably only using about a third of the power it can put out, but even so, explosions rock the house... Dialog is crisp and music sounds full and rich. Setup was a breeze; the wires are color coded, and the manual gets you up and running quickly.
Another bonus is the DVD player -- I already had one (an Apex from Amazon), but this is a great little unit. It puts out beautiful progressive-scan pictures. You can fast-forward at incredible speed (I think the top is 120x). Best of all, it has a 1.5x ffw speed that plays sound without distorting it (it doesn't get high-pitched). So if you were in a hurry maybe you could watch a DVD faster that way. :)
All in all, an awesome unit.
Great unit for the $$$.......2004-06-18
I bought this and have been quite satisfied. I bought it cause i have had such great luck with jvc products and own others that i can link together.
Sound is execptional for small speakers. Saving Private Ryan sounds like your there on omaha beach.
Only thing i had trouble with was a setting to activate the optical input from a default setting for the cd player, to be active on the dvd player. once its done everythings just great.

Update on Previous review.......2003-01-17
In an earlier review I related a problem with the subwoofer that I have resolved myself after I got to know the system a little better. The subwoofer was cutting out. I thought it was because it was defective and a protection circuit was kicking in but I was wrong. Turns out that since the subwoofer is always pluged in to a seperate circuit than the reciever, it shuts itself off when it is not recieving a signal. I now have the subwoofer turned way up on the reciever to try to keep the signal strong enough during the quieter parts of the movie so it won't inadvertantly cut out. When I am listening to anything other than music CDs and DVDs it still cuts out depending on the input. It happens mostly when there is dialogue and no music to provide a sufficient bass output from the reciever. A little annoying but I can live with it.
Very pleased until the Subwoofer failed.......2003-01-15
Three days of use and I am sending the subwoofer in to be repaired. It was a great sounding system while it lasted. I did not abuse the subwoofer. I use it in a small room and at most played the volume at 35 on a scale of 1 - 50. I promise to come back and award more stars if the service is good. If the service is bad I can guarentee that you'll hear back from me.
Very Pleased.......2003-01-09
This is an excellent system for those (like myself) who are on a budget, but would like to get a home theatre system. I agree almost completely with the other post listed here. My only complaint is that the regulator doesn't let the system get quite as loud as I would like. (But that should help give it a much longer life-span, and preserve it's quality over that time as well.) The DVD player is great and the receiver has a nice Tuner. It's a great way to inexpensively link up several different components.
Great Value on a Small Budget.......2002-11-30
After a little dd, I finally decided to purchase this system. Boy am I happy I did. The sound quality is incredible, and even though I am unable to put the rear speakers behind for the full surround sound experience, I am quite pleased with what this system is capable of. There are numerous inputs so you can hook-up your vcr, dvd, playstation, gamecube, etc. There is nothing like playing Grand Theft Auto and actually feeling each bullet from the subwoofer. With the click of a button, I can change the receiver from my shoot-em-up game to a nice evening of classical music. When you can sit there and actually hear the faint "ding" of the triangle in the background, you know you have a great sound system.
Items to note:
1) This system comes with a dvd player.
2) The subwoofer is fairly large, but on many other systems this is the case. It requires a separate power source.
3) The dvd player plays dvd's (of course), cd's, and mp3's.
4) The setup is fairly easy. There are different colors of cable wires for the rear speakers, the front speakers, and the center speaker.
5) There are two remotes (one for the dvd player, and one for the receiver)

Amazon.com Product Description
The TH-M45 complete home theater features the world's smallest five-disc DVD changer to employ JVC's Direct Digital Progressive Scan technology. The system also features built-in Dolby Digital, DTS, and Dolby Pro Logic II 5.1-channel surround processing with a multichannel surround speaker setup to envelop you in luscious sound from movies and music. For thunderous sound at loud levels and clear, full-bodied sound at quiet levels, the TH-M45 pumps out 120 watts x 2 (left, right), 80 watts x 3 (center, left/right surrounds), and comes with a standalone 120-watt powered subwoofer.
The TH-M45's high-resolution component-video output delivers the best possible video reproduction to compatible high-definition and HD-ready televisions and monitors, and an optical digital-audio input accommodates stereo and multichannel audio feeds from digital satellite systems and DTV set-top boxes.
A four-mode digital acoustic processor (DAP) simulates different sonic environments, which you can adjust on a program-by-program basis.
Customer Reviews:
worked fine for a few months..........2005-12-31
I bought this model about a year ago. A year ago, I'd had given it 4 stars. I liked that it is small, and the blue lights on the face are very attractive. The speakers sound good and the DVD player functioned fine at first.
The thing I noticed immediately was that the JVC XV-THM45 would stall during DVD play if there was the slightest blemish or dirt mark on the DVD. Never had that problem with my old Panasonic (which I gave away to my parents). And when I say stall, I mean it will pause with a jumbled picture for a few minutes sometimes right in the middle of a movie. I have to stop, start the movie again from the beginning and skip past the blemish if I can't clean the disk adequately enough for the machine. Sometimes, there isn't even anythign visibly wrong with the disc.
Another difficulty I had was I could not receive even the strongest radio stations adequately on the FM radio, and I live in a major metropolitan area. So I went to Best Buy and bought a $60 powered FM attenna and attached it to the attenna jack in the back. It did not improve the signal whatsoever, not a bit. Well, I had another radio in the living room, so I was annoyed that I had wasted the money, but could get past it.
Then about 6 months after purchasing the player, I noticed it would often stop recognizing DVD's if they were inserted into the 1st disc position. Any other slot worked fine. Whatever, it's annoying, but I could live with it - it just became a 4-disc changer instead of 5.
Now, it's a year into it. Tonight, I went to play a DVD and the machine does not respond to certain buttons on the remote - namely all the buttons that control the DVD player. All the menu and navigation buttons, pause, rewind, play, stop, etc. The volume and power buttons work fine. That means I can no longer navigate DVD menus. That is not a workable situation.
So in short, this product has major durability issues. I didn't have anything against JVC, and this was the first time a bought a JVC-anything, but it will be the last. It's extremely frustrating when an expensive piece of equipment craps out left and right. It wouldn't make economical sense to fix it. So I spent ~$200 on a piece of equipment that lasted a year.
So here's my advice to you:
1. Definitely do not buy a JVC XV-THM45
2. Don't buy a product unless you read several reviews that comment on it's long-term durability (I guess 1 year is long-term). Let's face it, most things work fine out of the box, and everyone is proud of the decision they've made, so they'er going to rate it high. But if no one is saying "it's been a year and I love this product", think twice.
Now, onto my search for a replacement DVD player.
Great Sound.......2004-01-12
We bought this home theater system for Christmas and have been nothing but impressed. The sound quality is absolutly wonderful. I highly recommend it if you like things loud. Plus I didn't think that we would use the 5 disk DVD player, but now I find it useful and glad that we went with the 5 disk DVD player.
