Product Description

A 14 degree gable separates the two groups of keys, which is complemented by the curved key bed and 7-degree wrist rest for what looks to be a truly comfortable typing experience. Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Awesome keyboard. Too bad it's not bluetooth........2007-06-25

I bought this keyboard because I couldn't find any ergonomic bluetooth keyboards and I read elsewhere that RF wireless keyboards miss keystrokes when typing upwards of 70 wpm. I type >90 wpm so I couldn't have that. To be honest, I love this keyboard. It's so comfortable to type for long periods of time. It took maybe 2 days for me to get completely used to the curved shape, but once you're used to it you'll like it much more than the standard flat shape.

My only problems with this keyboard are:

1) It's not bluetooth

2) I use linux full-time, and I had to recompile my kernel with a patch from ubuntuforums.org to get the following buttons working: Zoom slider, Search, Mail, Favorites 1-5, My Favorites, and the =, (, and ) keys on the top right above the num pad. However, this was probably to be expected because it's a Microsoft keyboard. Eventually this patch should be included in the kernel so the keyboard will work flawlessly out of the box.

3) No Next/Previous media keys. It has play/pause, volume up/down, and mute, so why doesn't it have next/previous?

3 out of 5 stars Ergonomic, but not ergonomic enough.......2007-06-15

Pluses: Best feeling wrist rest, ergonomically designed reverse angle, the zoom rocker and back/forward keys.
Minuses: "6" key is on the wrong side, tough to press space bar.

Typing on this keyboard should be enjoyable, but thanks to the above flaws, it is not. Design-wise it is on the right track, the wrists are less pronated because of the angle of the keys. I'm not yet suffering from CTS, but if it is already serious, I doubt this keyboard will alleviate all the pain. For prevention, however, it is already a lot better than a regular keyboard.

5 out of 5 stars I'm on my second one now!.......2007-06-14

I had bought one of these a while back with a gift card because there wasn't anything else I really wanted. It has turned out to be a remarkable change.

After the first few days I got used to the new key layout and rumbled along. I wouldn't say it made me more productive, but definitely more comfortable.

I had to replace that one after I spilled rum on it and turned it into a pirate. All it knew how to type was rrrrrrr.

4 out of 5 stars Very nice keyboard.......2007-06-09

only weaknesses include a small enter button and the fact it is very large because of excessive waste of use of key space (especially the F1-12 buttons)
Otherwise, this keyboard does help with your wrists. Get use to the B button on the left side and a stiffer space button.

4 out of 5 stars * almost * perfect.......2007-06-05

I am new to this keyboard and so far I like it. You can tell it is a quality item.

I like that it is quiet. The wrist rests are very comfortable.

I have been using a really small, scrunched up notebook keyboard for three years so this is going to take some serious getting used-to.

The biggest problem with the keyboard is the space key. Unless you hit it close to its center ut doesn't go down easily. In fact if you strike it close to one of it's edges, like near the M key it seems to catch and takes too much resistance to press it down. Really that's the only fault I can find with this so far.

The only other issue I have is that I learned to type on my own - and although I am a fast and pretty accurate typist apparently I did not learn the "traditional" way and this is causing me problems now. FOr example, I've always used my right index finger for the B key - This is simply not an option on this keyboard. So I have some re-learning to do. Hopefully it will be worth the effort.

Its split, gently sloped shape encourages a natural hand position-so you can type more comfortably. The Natural Keyboard Elite allows you to place your hands, wrists and forearms in a naturally comfortable position. The built-in palm rest provides a comfortable place for your hands when you're not typing.

Amazon.com Product Description

Microsoft's Natural Keyboard Elite features ergonomic contours that comfortably accommodate not only your fingers, but your whole hands. A built-in palm rest and adjustable keyboard legs help you work in comfort, and two connection options give you the ultimate flexibility: either a round PS/2 port or a rectangular USB port for plug-and-play convenience with the latest PCs.

With its improved space-saving design, the new keyboard takes up less room on your desktop and fits easily into keyboard trays. To use the Microsoft Natural Keyboard Elite, you need one of the following operating systems: Microsoft MS-DOS 3.1 or later, Windows NT Workstation or Server 3.51 or later, Windows 3.1 or later, and an available PS/2 or USB port (USB requires Windows 98, 2000, Me, or XP).

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Microsoft Natural Elite Keyboard.......2007-07-02

This is the most comfortable and typeable keyboard that I have ever used. I love the way the keys are positioned, and the ease of typing on this ergonomic keyboard. Once you get used to it, it is difficult to go back to a more traditional keyboard.

The only problem was that Microsoft made most of these keyboards with a PS2 rather than a USB connection. Therefore, they are difficult to find for newer computers. The split ergonomic keyboards that use a USB are only made in black and are presently considerably more expensive.

5 out of 5 stars WooHoo.......2007-06-19

I have just started having carpel sypmtoms after 11 years in front of a computer. This was the first step for me to try to diminish the symptoms that I'm having, and let me tell you it has helped a great deal. I leave work with no pain and have only been using this keyboard for a few days. The keys are sensitive and using this feels great!!! I hightly recommend this keyboard!

5 out of 5 stars MS Natural is the best keyboard!.......2007-06-09

I bought my first more than 10 years ago after I'd begun getting carpal tunnel pains. I was on my way out of a store when I saw the Natural Keyboard, put my purchases down, placed my fingers on it, and went back to checkout with one. Never had a bit of a problem since.
However, with a new CPU and keyboard, I began to have problems again. My old Natural has a PS/2 connector, and the new CPU takes USB, so I decided to treat myself to a new keyboard. This new one, BTW, comes with both USB and PS/2 connectors.

I LOVE the MS Natural Keyboard!Natural Keyboard Elite

2 out of 5 stars seems defective.......2007-05-16

The space bar on this keyboard seems as though it is lacking the spring element,,,it works, but doesn't feel right. I know because I had an identical one that did not feel this way before liquid got spilled on it and I needed to order this replaceement.
When I contacted the seller, they said I needed to go through the manufacturer NOT them. That never makes me happy :-(

Normally, this keyboard is great! But not this particular unit. If you are one that likes easy returns, don't go this route.

5 out of 5 stars Great for me.......2007-05-03

I'm from the typewriter generation, and my wrists started telling me so ten years ago. I got one of these, propped it so it is at a 30 degree angle (similar to a typewriter) and I'm fine. For the money you can't really go wrong. I also dumped the mouse, and use a MS Trackball Explorer.

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars It's ok for $20 (but the cord is too short).......2007-06-20

The keyboard isn't bad, but it isn't good either. I do like the halfway approach on the ergonomic design. But it doesn't feel quite as solid as I would like. The right shift key on mine seems to have been made poorly b/c it is much louder and has a different pitch than the other keys. So when I'm typing it sounds like "tap tap tap TAP tap tap tap TAP tap...."

Also the cord is much shorter than any keyboard I've ever seen. You won't have a problem if you keep your pc on your desk. But I keep mine below the desk and the keyboard doesn't come close to reaching. It's plugged into my monitor until I decide whether to buy a new keyboard or a usb extension cable.

5 out of 5 stars My Favorite Keyboard.......2007-06-16

I have owned 2 of these I love them so much! I type 8+ hours a day for work, and a good keyboard is a must for me! The keys are low profile, and the curve is very comfortable and easy to get used to. It's also not big like so many other keyboards have become. The extra multimedia keys are nice, particularly the volume controls, and has the very handy calculator button above the number pad. My only possible complaint is that the first one I had malfunctioned after about a year of use, but I loved the board so much I got another one of these that same day. It also claims to be spill resistant, but I found out with my second keyboard that mine indeed was not very resistant as it didn't survive a spill, though maybe a lesser spill would not have damaged it. I don't know. However, this has to be one of the best cost/quality boards out there for your money. I really wish they would come out with a model of this board that is wireless!

3 out of 5 stars Comfortable, quiet, cheap, but low quality.......2007-06-12

I've been using this keyboard for a while now, have had three (2 at home, one at work). I use it because I wanted a keyboard that has more of a laptop feel to the key, low travel and quiet - without clicky-di-clack sounds.

Plus, I like the curved design, which is more ergonomic and easier on my wrists without having to learn touch-typing necessary for the fully split keyboards.

I use some of the extra keys, for example, I use the sound volume and muting functions frequently, as well as the calculator button. Because I use a 4-key trackball, I have no use for the browsing keys.

The major drawback is that quality, of course, is in-line with pricing: quite low. I already discarded one and replaced it due to failing keys. Occasional replacement is OK considering the price, but the space bar click (the only key that does it on the current keyboard) and its wobbely feel are rather annoying. For the quality drawbacks, I give it 3.5 stars overall rating. Still, a decent, semi-ergonomic keyboard with nice touch to (most) keys.

5 out of 5 stars Great keyboard.......2007-06-10

This is one awesome keyboard. I really like it because the travel distance on the keys is closer to a laptop style keyboard than the traditional style keyboard. The function buttons function perfectly (I love the calculator button and use it ALL the time). The included software allows you to edit each of the functions and set to somthing else. For the price, this is one excellent purchase.

4 out of 5 stars Great value.......2007-06-02

I have looked everywhere for a keyboard that does not come with additional accessories that is also moderately priced. This one ... I love. I now have three of them. Great deal!

5 out of 5 stars Nice Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse.......2007-06-21

I like this keyboard because it's so thin and light weight. It saves a lot of space on my small computer table. I also found the touch pad very usuful when you just want to move the pointing short distance. The mouse is very precise and rechargeable. I'm happy with this product.

    5 out of 5 stars Excellent Keyboard & Mouse.......2007-06-11

If you are looking for a good wireless keyboard & mouse Microsoft 7000 is the one to get. This keyboard is the best. I own many keyboards and this one is awesome. Installation was a breeze no problem. I order the logitech diNovo Edge and i had a lot of problem i had to send it back, but i am happy with my MS 7000. Get this keyboard and mouse, you will love it

    2 out of 5 stars Compatibility Problems.......2007-06-08

I love the design; however, it doesn't work as expected. If the keyboard is on a flat surface, it seems to work ok. But, if I sit back on the couch (the way you want to use a wireless keyboard in your living room), the keys repeat like crazy. I press one letter and the screen fills with that letter. I called Microsoft, we tried several fixes, finally they sent me a replacement. Same problem. I tried from different distances (right next to the computer to a max of 10'. It occurred everywhere. Now, the mouse is no longer tracking correctly. I called Microsoft to tell them that I have the same problem and they told me to return the keyboard for a refund. I have a Microsoft 64bit home premium system. It should work with this OS. I have tried to reinstall several times and the problem just gets worse. Now, the installation won't configure the bluetooth properly and other devices aren't recognized. In addition, the keyboard failure has become more consistent even when on a flat surface. MS needs to resolve this problem. The keyboard could be a great device, if only it worked.

5 out of 5 stars Microsoft Wireless Entertainment Keyboard 7000.......2007-06-08

For anyone who does not use the numeric keyboard, and who likes to use a keyboard on their lap - this keyboard is an ABSOLUTE DREAM! I would never be without it again! What a breakthrough!!

    4 out of 5 stars Excellent Keyboard!!!.......2007-06-04

I spend 12+ hours a day at a keyboard (work and at home) so typing is my life.

The Microsoft Wireless 7000 is a great keyboard. One thing that attracted me was its design. As someone who owns it: the keyboard looks even better out of the box. Putting the batteries in and getting everything setup is very easy. However, the CD software is horrible and caused a Blue Screen of Death whenever I tried to get the mouse software installed. Other than that, upon plugging in the Bluetooth device - Windows XP automatically started an update that allowed the keyboard and mouse to start working right away (without the software from CD). I can install the keyboard software without a problem.

The windows key is not where it normally is - between the Ctrl + Alt. Instead it is that button at the bottom middle of the keyboard. Out of the package that windows button was stuck down for me and I had to fiddle with it for a bit to get it to start clicking. (It was actually stuck down so whenever I hit F it would open Find, etc...).

Other than the above issues the keyboard quality is A+. The keys are very quiet and the curve of the keyboard is very comfortable even after hours of typing. The whole feel of the keyboard just gives you a feeling of quality. I feel it takes less effort to type due to the decreased key press distance and the individual key placement.

There is no lag from keypress to displaying the letter on the screen - I type around 155wpm sustained (Mavis Beacon...) so that is a big issue for me. The mouse is A+: has no lag and works very well for my gaming purposes (hours of Eve-Online). The feel of the mouse is very comfortable. Only complaint is that the mouse buttons are *very* easy to click so you can't rest your fingers on them like I did with my previous mouse.

4 stars out of 5 because of the software issues (blue screen of death) and windows key being stuck down out of package. The keyboard and mouse quality is A+ and I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a comfortable keyboard to type on for hours on end.

Microsoft Optical Desktop Elite for Bluetooth - Keyboard and Mouse -

    Customer Reviews:

    3 out of 5 stars Great....when it works.......2007-05-26

Both the keyboard and mouse are comfortable and work well when connected. The problem is that the connections break way too easily and are often difficult to reestablish. I thought it might be that I was using the laptop's integrated Bluetooth but using the supplied USB dongle instead fairs no better.

The mouse was so problematic that I gave up and went back to a wired mouse. The keyboard disconnects after a few minutes of inactivity and reconnecting often takes several attempts manually through the Bluetooth Manager, in many cases having to remove the batteries in the keyboard and reinstall them to get it to connect. This is not a battery issue as the same batteries will then continue to work for days.

It seems that all the improvements in mice have been focused on bluetooth wireless products. I can't find a 'state of the art' wired mouse and this experience has made me hesitant to even consider another bluetooth mouse or keyboard.

5 out of 5 stars Works as promised.......2007-05-22

Been using it with Windows XP for about a month now. Keyboard and mouse are part of a living room setup. The software drivers installed without a problem, though it was difficult identifying which package to pull off of the MS site. The BT dongle is somewhat fragile, but it's in an out of the way spot.

The only lag I've encountered in either component occurs when the keyboard first connects. Mouse sensitivity is good. Media and programmable keyboard keys are easy to set up.

    I'd buy this again.

4 out of 5 stars Very Good Duo Except For Missing Caps Lock Indicator.......2007-05-22

I like this combination. The keyboard is very functional and the mouse is multi-functioned, comfortable and precise. The keyboard has five programmable hot keys which are all the more functional because there are pre-programmed keys for My Documents, My Pictures, My Music, Mail, Web/Home and messenger. The keyboard also has a built-in mouse wheel and media controls which adds to the keyboard functionality. The F1 - F12 keys also have dual functions via an F Lock key, so F1 can also be Help, F2 - Undo, F3 - Redo, F4 - New etc. I don't use these much because my brain is more attuned to how each of these functions are called in the programs I use. What I do find useful is the double sized delete key.

I have read some comments that the Bluetooth mice are not as precise as regular wireless and corded mice. I use Photoshop fairly often and have seen no reduction of precision.

My biggest complaint is that there is no Caps Lock or Num Lock indicator light. I am not a touch typist - SO i oFTEN gET tHINGS lIKE tHIS - and have to back them out.

Using Vista, I had to go to the net to get updated drivers - but this was almost an automatic process and added only about five minutes to an otherwise straight forward installation.

    1 out of 5 stars constant disconnects.......2007-05-15

The keyboard and mouse constantly disconnect from the computer (Vista). You have to go through the whole process of pairing the devices, and even then often the computer won't recognize the keyboard and/or mouse. Bottom line: it's useless.

4 out of 5 stars The feet are considered an "accessory".......2007-05-02

Bought this for my wife. It has worked wonderfully well for a year. Then she broke one of the plastic feet on the back that hold the thing at a comfortable typing angle.

After hours of searching, I find out from Microsoft that the feet are considered an accessory and are 1) not covered by the 36 months "parts" warranty, and 2) not to be found. "Maybe you could visit a local computer store to see if they have any old keyboards around".

We paid over $100 for this thing and it is rendered almost unusable (yes, I exagerate but only a little) by the absence of one 37 cent part. OK, knowing Microsoft "if" they sold it, it would be a $10.95 part.

Trouble is, I do not know that Logitech would be any different.

So if nothing breaks or falls off, this is a really good keyboard.

    5 out of 5 stars Excellent!.......2007-06-27

I have tried a variety of keyboards over the years and now I have FINALLY found the perfect one.
The keys have a nice bounce and there are several special keys for such things as the internet, and e-mail.
    Nice product, nice price.

    5 out of 5 stars Great value.......2007-06-12

I love this keyboard. It's cheap, simple, and smooth. My only problem I had with it was getting used to the new positioning of the Home, Insert, Delete, End, Page Up, and Page Down keys since they are at a perpendicular angle that of most other keyboards. It's a great keyboard, but may take some time getting used for certain tasks.

5 out of 5 stars Great little keyboard.......2007-06-09

Nice clean lines. Clearly marked function keys. Simple to use.

    Just what I wanted!

    4 out of 5 stars A good keyboard.......2007-04-03

Good, but just short of great. The key action is nice and light, the low-travel makes it very easy for your fingers to really fly across the keys, and pretty quietly, too. I like the fact that they are trying to make keyboards that are more spill resistant, because I have killed more than one keyboard by spilling a drink on it. I have no idea how well the spill-resistance is, though, as I am not about to willfully go testing it out or anything.

The profile is very thin, and the footprint is also smaller than average. Personally, I would not have minded having the keyboard be a little bit wider, because in order to save space, Microsoft has re-arranged the insert-delete-home-end-pgup pgdn keys to be in a two vertical lines instead of the more common two horizontal lines. I use those keys quite a bit for text file navigation while programming, a learning how to use this new configuration by touch took me a week or so, which was kind of annoying.

Another small niggle is the lack of a usb adapter. Do doubt, it helps keep the price down, but I would really love to be able to use this keyboard with my iBook as well as my PC, but in order to do that, I'll have to buy a third-party adapter.

And, as always, the inclusion of the extra keys at the top of the keyboard are almost useless. I say almost, because I do actually use the calculator key often enough, but the rest are nothing but a waste of space.

Despite these complaints, I still think the one thing that Microsoft still does well is hardware. Their keyboards and mice are pretty solid. As a basic, no frills keyboard, this is much better than you would usually get so for cheap.

3 out of 5 stars didn't come with usb adaptor.......2007-02-20

If you are considering this for use with a laptop you will need a usb adapter.

    Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars Very poor range -- Not a viable product.......2007-06-05

The range on the mouse is less than three feet. Sitting on a standard office desk, the mouse drops clicks if it's more than eighteen inches from the receiver. This makes double-clicking almost impossible.

1 out of 5 stars Typing for you.......2007-06-05

I've had my keyboard and mouse for several months now and I am ready to throw the keyboard out the window. It types letters for you and it's extremely frustrating.

2 out of 5 stars MS should pay YOU to use it.......2007-05-24

I was really looking for some wireless stuff to keep my desk tidy, i really did not matter much about price, but for those few bucks all seemed to fit. And it was a MS desk of course, anyone would think with a little work you should get it going OK.
Unfortunately not; the mouse is really unresponsive when clicking. It does "wake up" fast and battery has a nice life, but sometimes you click on some link and have to MOVE YOUR MOUSE WHILE CLICKING to make the computer recognize the MouseUp event.
The keyboard, on the other hand is really great, I do know it is a little slow sometimes, but it is acceptable and that bought the second star on this review.
For the whole Combo, I think MS should contact the owners and give them a brand-new, fine-working Keyboard and Mouse.

2 out of 5 stars Mouse is often unresponsive.......2007-05-20

The mouse consistently has problems when I click either the right or left button. It seems that the mouse goes to sleep in about three seconds after it leave it alone (I'm assuming to save battery life). The problem is that I often have to click 2-3 times to click link or select text. It seems to take a little while to wake up.

The movement of the mouse is always pretty responsive. It does not see mto have the same issue.

I'm going to return this wireless keyboard/mouse kit today because the mouse is so unresponsive.

2 out of 5 stars If your computer table is metal, don't get this!.......2007-04-04

I have to compact, and have a metal computer table, perfect size. Nowhere in the description for this wireless did it say you cannot use on metal. This is great if I'm working long hours on the computer; I get in my easy chair, prop my feet up and go for it, which is great. But short-term, which is most of the time, I have to balance it in my lap until I figure a way around this. If you do not have a wood desk, this would be great. If your desk or keyboard tray is metal, just keep on looking.

The Microsoft Business Hardware Pack is an excellent value for a keyboard and mouse set. A month ago I ordered 4 units for my small business. They've worked without any problems on our Macs. The software seems to function well and allows for all the additional keys and mouse buttons to be properly configured. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a keyboard and mouse set, including home users.

    - Ample multifunction keys
    - Shock absorbing keys that are comfortable to use for extended periods of time
    - Log Off, Sleep, and sound control keys

    Mouse Highlights:
    - Four buttons, five including wheel click
    - Improved optics over older models (it doesn't dim when not in use, reducing lag)
    - Comfortable size for any user and any hand

    Pros:
    - Inexpensive
    - Good quality, software (Mac) and hardware
    - Simple and functional design
    - No batteries to replace or fail

1 out of 5 stars Fantastic keyboard, but not this 5 pack.......2007-04-02

I love this keyboard and have been only using this keyboard since at least 2001. It is sturdy and doesn't have extra features, it isn't wireless, and it is a bit of a quirky key layout that bothers some people (the arrow keys are smaller than on many keyboards) - but I love it.

The reason for my low rating on this product is not on the keyboard, but on this actual sales page.

It says that this is a 5 pack of keyboards, and when I ordered it, a single keyboard came. I sent it back to Amazon, they apologized and said they would send the proper 5 pack. They then sent me another single keyboard. I sent it back, they refunded my money, and I bought the 5 pack elsewhere.

Hopefully that is all resolved now, but after talking to other people who have had similar issues with Amazon when buying multi-packs and only getting a single unit - be wary.

I love Amazon and buy a ton of stuff from them, and will continue to do so, but I will not be buying multi-packs from them.

5 out of 5 stars You Will Never Go Back.......2007-03-19

These keyboards take a little time, not much though, to get the feel, but once you're comfortable with it, you'll never go back to the old style. Your typing speed goes up dramatically even if you're not a real great typist. After you have used this keyboard for a little while, try typing on a regular one and you'll see just how much better this one really is. Also, these keyboards are more compact and less cumbersome than others that I had looked at.

    5 out of 5 stars super.......2007-01-03

I love this keyboard! Once you get used to it you can't go back to the straight keyboard again. These are OEM versions and my boss noticed that they are several inches smaller than the retail version. I don't mind because I have hands and not paws. Very comfortable for the wrists.
