Speaker selectors offer an efficient, cost-effective means of expanding the audio system in your home or office. The SDB-6.1, which accommodates up to six pairs of speakers in a variety of rooms, is not only easy to use, but also protects your speakers from overworking while maintaining the purity of the sound. As with any Russound product, the device is accommodating, versatile, and scalable. The selector includes dual source inputs (labeled Amp A and Amp B), letting you split your speakers among two separate amplifiers, along with an A/B selector switch for each speaker pair. Thanks to the dual source operation, you can choose to listen to jazz music in a couple of rooms through one amp and classical music in the others through the second amp.

Users can also control the volume for each set of speakers on the front panel, allowing them to set and forget the pre-amp/receiver volume and custom control the listening level in each room from a single central location. To maintain a set volume regardless of which speakers are playing, use the corresponding speaker on/off switches.

The SDB-6.1, which is designed for use with either 4- or 8-ohm speakers, also boasts audio-grade, impedance-matching autoformers, which maintain a safe operating load at the amp while distributing maximum power throughout your system. The selector's internal jumpers choose the degree of impedance matching based on the impedance of your speakers and the amplifier's impedance requirements.

Russound is owned by Creative/Cambridge Sound Works, and I have owned several pieces of their various products with satisfaction.
I bought this to replace a Niles 4 speaker box that the clips were no longer strong enough to grip the wires. However, the volume controls seem to attenuate the sound, as opposed to the Niles, which did not have volume controls to the remote speakers. The construction is quite sturdy and operation does not introduce much noise or noticeable coloration to the music.
It's a good looking, well built equipment, but it only accepts bare-naked or tinned cable. Clips are plastic, but very solid if a little finnicky about how much you strip.
I doubt you will find a better speaker selector for the money, and the dual amp sourcing allows you to take advantage of the new multi-zone A/V receivers.
If you have the white Monster Cable run through your walls, forget about it unless you do what I did and pigtail your wire, because the cable won't fit in the selector's clips. If you have something 12 or 14 gauge or below, then you should be okay. It is really important that you not strip more than 3/8" of wire from the end of the cable, and I would suggest that 1/4" is the ideal.
The "stick on" labels are somewhat hard to see, but otherwise okay. On the whole, it seems to me that some company making these products should consult with audiophiles to find out what they want -- they would be surprised, and the products would be better, if a little more expensive. I would not buy this at full price, but I got a really good value on Amazon.

The SS-6.2 and SS-4.2, which handle up to six and four pairs of loudspeakers respectively, provide impedance matching with automatic overload protection and are compatible for use with high power amplifiers. The SS-6.2 and SS-4.2 are designed to be used in two operating configurations: Impedance Matching or Bypass. Impedance matching mode provides automatic overload protection for use even with high power amplifiers. This mode allows multiple pairs of speakers to be safely connected to an amplifier using the automatic impedance matching circuitry of the speaker selector. Bypass mode is used for direct speaker switching with remote impedance matching volume controls. This allows local control in each room as well as higher efficiency; however, in this mode, the impedance matching and overload protection is not engaged. Designed for use with 8-ohm loudspeakers, both selectors also provide safe connection to bridged amplifiers or any application where there is a floating ground. SS-6.2 and SS-4.2 have spring-loaded speaker terminals for quick connection and can accommodate speaker wire up to 12 gauge.
