A combo DVD and CD player, the XL-DV50 is a compact DVD tabletop component system. The XL-DV50 connects easily to your television, and has progressive-scan output for a clearer, cinema-like picture when used with an HDTV-enabled television.

Handy features include a sleep timer and built-in clock with fluorescent display. It plays CD-R/RWs and DVDs along with MP3 CDs, and comes with a full-function remote control.

The two satellite speakers and subwoofer pump out 100 total watts of sound. It features 2.1 surround-sound output with DTS (Digital Theater Sound) and Dolby Digital. DTS is a digital audio encoding system that offers superior sound because it is the least compressed of all digital audio formats. Dolby Digital is a digital audio encoding system that is the standard for HDTVs.

Poor product poor Sharp Service.......2007-01-31

Stopped accepting DVDs in tray after 6 months , endless problems with sharp's authorised dealer in Houston. Sharp is of little assistance it is going onto 1 year now. Do not recommend this player and will think twice about buying any Sharp product their service is extremly poor. Even for this low price not worth it.

Quite Disappointed.......2006-03-25

We were initially excited about this product since it seemed to fit our needs as a combination AM/FM radio, CD, and DVD player, in a very compact size that perfectly fit our entertainment center. After setting it up for the first time, we were surprised when the DVD tray wouldn't eject after the first week. Thinking that we would get it repaired, but still needing a mini-system, we ordered a second system, expecting to re-deploy the first to another room. The second system worked for about a month until, lo and behold, the same problem occurred! Perhaps it was a coincidence, but fool me once, shame on you - fool me twice, shame on me. We won't be fooled again. The only reason I've given it 2 stars instead of 1 is that the quality of the sound is quite good.
