Pretty good.......2007-05-15

You can't beat this night vision for the price. It's easy to use but I wouldn't bring this into combat or anything like that. It's great for what people have said about it.

One minor note, don't let the IR be the main selling point for this night vision. It helps out indoors for sure but the range it illuminates will not do much at all outdoors. But like I said it's a minor note and if I could do it again I'd still buy it.

Excellent night vision, great deal, buy it if you're looking for a low cost alternative.

Fun Home Surveillance.......2007-02-01

I live in a rural area with homes on acreage. It's nice to step out to see what the dogs are barking at without scaring away whatever it is. Don't expect movie style effects, but do expect to see without a flashlight. Don't use this with a video camera. One flash of light may burn out the CCD as it did for the blue CCD on my Panasonic DV video camera.

Handy Night Vision, With Limitations Of Course.......2007-01-07

It's a nice little product and works very well. It took me awhile to get the battery cover off though as I'm guessing they used a pneumatic drill at the factory to put that on. I use it in the city, commensurate with my job, though and any type of red light or walk light will not be helpful for you seeing anything. But what you pay for this little handy device isn't bad and it works within the restrictions of the tech.

I have used several types of night vision, 3rd generation that is, but as many of us can see, 3rd generation aint cheap. I went with this particular n/v because of price, and a fellow Deputy friend of mine owns one, and said he liked his. I have only one complaint the weight, it's a little heavy, but well built. Turn on the I/R, and wham it's like turning on a spot light, nice unit, works well, and if your interested in a great little night vision unit, you can't go wrong, quality product great price. Basically, it works great! We use our rangefinder to judge the distance from our boat to the shore, other boats, and anything else around us. Typical distances are 20 to 200 yards. We bought the cheapest rangefinder we could find because we didn't need accuracy, didn't need long distance, and weren't sure it would be useful to us. Turns out we use it all the time and recommend it to all our sailing friends. We would buy the same unit again, but there are three things about it I would change. First, the unit is about 1/2" too long for the case that came with it -- it fits, but the case doesn't close all the way. Very annoying! Second, sailors tend to measure in feet or meters and this unit measures in yards. It's easy enough to multiply by three, but at the end of a long day when you are trying to figure the dinstances between a rocky point, a mooring bouy, and two other boats, it would be nice to avoid the math... Third, I would add a backlight to the display for use at twighlight and at night -- the unit makes the measurements, you just can't see the crosshairs to aim and can't read the distance until you look at a light.

I went cheap and got the 450 for golf. It's almost useless over 150 yds out. My cart partner had a Pinseeker, and he had no problem shooting traps 275 away. I could not hit the carts ahead of us. The Pinseeker actually shoots the flag, something the 450 can't. Mine's going back.

Basic Bushnell laser rangefinder perfect for bowhunting.......2007-05-05

I'm not sure any laser rangefinder would be effective at long ranges, but this one at least is absolutely perfect at close ones. It even works in dim light.

I ordered mine at amazon.com's back in early December. I am still waiting for it. They have delayed it 3 times already. They are telling me now that I might get it come April. At this rate, perhaps I will finally get it before next Christmas! Don't be fooled by their "1-2 days shipping". Sure, it only takes 1-2 days to ship it; after they hold your order for 4 MONTHS. Other than amazon.com, this might be a good product.

This is a great flashlight for camping, or put one into your car, it doesn't need the batteries, and no bulbs to warry about, that means you don't have a battery to waste, this helps environmentally, and it can be fun to dermonstate it to your child how things work. Great product.

I think this flashlight is worth every penny, but before you buy keep in mind the light is provided by one or three LEDs (two settings) directed by some reflective mirrors. It will not be as bright as a standard flash light but works very well for my purposes. You simply crank the handle around and you have light. I like the sustainability aspect of it. Although I am expecting the battery life to fade over time so far I only use it for short spurts of only a few minutes at a time.

Consider the Garrity Power Lite instead.......2007-01-22

I own both the Garrity Power Lite and the ILLUMINATOR wind-up flashlights. They have the same basic design, but with the following differences:

1. Size: The Illuminator is about the size of a man's electric shaver. It is easier to hold and to crank. The Garrity is bulkier, mainly because of the extra plastic lenses in front. It is also less comfortable to hold because rubber grips on the sides are shorter (see my Customer Image for size comparison)

2. Ease of Cranking: The Illuminator's handle takes very little effort to crank. However, you need to turn it virgorously (2-3 turns per second) in order to charge up the battery. The Garrity's cranking presents more resistence and is noisier. But the good news is that you only need to turn it at around one turn per second to charge up the battery.

3. Light Output: Both flashlights use 3 white LEDs, and have the option to turn on either one or all three. As far as I can tell, the LEDs are identical. The main differnce is that the Illuminator's light output is diffused, while the Garrity added three plastic lenses in front to produce a well-focused beam.

4. Light Duration: When fully charged up, the Illuminator gives out brighter light initially. However, its light dimmed down within a few minutes. After ten minutes, the light becomes barely visible (see my Customer Image above). The Garrity, on the other hand, produces fairly consistent light output for at least one hour!

Based on longer light duration, I would recommend the Garrity over the Illuminator. The Garrity is also cheaper when you order it with free super-saver shipping. (Be carefull when ordering The Illuminator, because some places offer the flashlight for $8-10, but charge another $8 in shipping!)

[The following Info for geeks only]:
Why does the Garrity produce much longer light duration than the Illuminator?

The Illuminator uses one 3.6V Lithium-ion rechargeable button cell (capacity unknown, probably around 30mAh). The Garrity uses 3x 1.25V NiMH cells rated at 80mAh. In my opinion as an electrical engineer, the NiMH design is much better because:

1. Each white LED needs about 20-40mA at 3.6V to produce sufficient light output. Three NiMH cells provide a consistent 3.75V throughout most of the discharge period. The Li-ion cell may provide up to 4V when fully charged, but its voltage drops quickly during discharge to 3.6V and below. This explains why the Illuminator produces a brighter light initially, but dims down much faster.

2. NiMH cells are more robust and can withstand over-charging better than Lithium-ion cells can. Think about it: there are chargers that can fully charge up NiMH cells in 15 minutes (that means charging at 4X), but nothing can charge Li-ion cells in less than one hour. In this case, since you can charge up the battery in one minute and then use it for up to one hour, that means the battery is being charged at 60X! This kind of abuse is not recommended even for NiMH, and it can be murderous for Lithium-ion rechargeable batteries.

[Update on April 9, 2007]
The Lithium-ion rechargeable battery in my Illuminator probably was already damaged (from over-charging) when I did the comparison above. It has deteriorated further since then, and can hardly sustain five minutes of light now.

Versatile Digital Alarm Watch.......2007-02-08

I rated this watch as a 4 because the band is flimsy. I also rated it as a 4 because I had the same model watch before, and after a year or two the chrome plating started to peel off. But it's cheap enough to warrant buying a new one when that happens. I replace the band for a sturdier one when I do.

I like the watch because it is not expensive and I can wear it no matter what I do and even do yard work with it. It works well, and is easy to set, operate the alarm, use the stopwatch function, and light up to show the dial in the dark. I use it as an alarm clock at home and when I travel. And if I damage it, it's cheap enough to buy another--just so long as I replace the band.

Got this for my dad for Fathers Day. His other watch broke, he doesnt like the "fancy" ones they got today(as he puts it). He wanted a simple watch. Well this one has the time(hope so), day and date, and his loves the light, he goes to the movies at least once a week, so the light helps tremulously. Plus day + date is on same face no pushing buttons, someones always asking that. If you like a watch that is simple, just time and day is all you need to know, not all that other "fancy" stuff this watch is for you.

Affordable and Dependable.......2007-05-13

If you are looking for a cheap, durable watch, look no further. As a student, it suits my needs perfectly. It has a large, clear display, which includes the date, alarm indicator, hour-beep indicator, and PM indicator. The electro luminescent backlight works wonderfully, and I've noticed that the face doesn't get scratched if it makes contact with a wall. It's water resistant, so you don't have to worry about it when washing your hands. I've used the alarm on several occassions, and I have no complaints. It beeps loudly for around 30 seconds, so unless you are a particularly heavy sleeper you should have no problems with it. Also, I've seen complaints about the size of the band...I wear it on the fourth notch from the end and I am an average-build 6 foot tall male. If you are heavy-set or muscular then this watch might not be for you. I've never had any use for the timer function, but I've read that a lot of people find it useful. The controls are very user-friendly...no complaints here. If you are looking for a flashy watch, or one you can take into the pool, then you'll want to look elsewhere. Otherwise, you can't beat the value. It has a seven-year battery and costs about as much as a CD.

It is thinner than a lot of more modern watches (I measure it as 9.5mm). Compared to the older Casio I replaced, it has one fewer button which makes it a bit non-intuitive (the light button is used for setting things). It also is missing the year, so I assume I must manually adjust for leap-years (not to mention the DST).

I'll NEVER use Ritz Camera again!.......2007-02-08

I received this camera Dec. 18, had an emergency in my family, and called them immediately to get a Ret. Auth. to return this item - I never even opened the box. I didn't receive the Ret. Auth. (after calling them 4 times and hearing that they had to wait to hear from their distribution company)until January 14. I overnighted this package and they received it January 15. To date, I am STILL waiting for them to credit my credit card for this ...... this is just not right. I have called again and get the same answer --- they have to wait to receive the documents. Now they email me and said they have received the merchandise but have to wait to get the credit. I am so surprised that Amazon would use a company like this.

I am very, very dissatisfied - and still waiting for my credit.

Night Owl used their standard five-element glass for both the oculars and the objective lenses, giving you a condensed lens and brighter images. This monocular also features soft-touch control buttons, power and IR indicators. It requires two AA batteries to operate.

The Night Owl Optics monocular had a major flaw as soon as I started using it. The system uses high voltage derived from 2-AA bateries. Occationally the unit would create a large snap(arcing noise) and emit a bright flash of light from the eyepiece. If one is using the instrument, the light actually hurts the eye. I have returned the monocular to Night Owl for repairs. I do not know the result of the repairs as it is still in transit. They told me to ship it at my expense.
Another strange requirement of the instrument is that the batteries are recommended to be removed if not used for 24 hours.
Other than the above, the monocular has performed well.
epilogue-Night Owl Optics did repair the unit and returned it.

Not bad, on the whole, for watching wildlife in the dark. Good illumination and nice balance between magnification, field of view, and use w/o a tripod. Sharpness falls off at the edges of the viewing area. I could recommend this to wildlife watchers who might be considering their first night-vision device. Since this was my first, I have no comparative information on whether there might be better ones out there.

Hello, I'm glad with this product, I haven't try it yet outside my house but in a really dark condition it works pretty well, I need to turn on the IR button and clearly I can read even a sign on a bottle in total darkness. this thing really works

I bought this item over a year ago, and it has never served for anything. Once I spotted a deer and turned on the "IR" illuminator, and the deer ran away - not too surprising, it is actually a red light and totally visible for most animals. Better use a flashlight. This is a first-generation nightscope, and has a very small range of utility: If there is a little light, the adapted human eye sees better, and if there is almost no light the device does not see either. 100 bucks is not too much of a waste, but if you are serious about nightvision you should spend about 10 times as much.

thes item is gretes item i used befoer for these prise!! yes is true is very clear optics , you can see in total darknes about 350 m it's agood rand , price and qulity .
