Sylvania's 27-inch color TV/VCR/DVD combination brings together a four-head VCR, a basic DVD player, and a cable-ready, stereo TV to give you everything you need to enjoy either DVD or VHS movies or record TV programming in one package controlled by a single remote control. The DVD player plays a variety of media--not only DVD-Video movies, but also DVD-R/RW (DVD-recordable or DVD-rewriteable discs), DVD+R/RW, audio CD, CD-R/RW, and CD MP3 discs. The VCR features automatic head cleaning, one-touch recording, and a 1-year, 8-event recording timer.

The DVD player offers freeze frame, advance frame by frame, or view in slow motion or fast-forward/reverse. For convenience, you can also stop playing a DVD and then pick up right where you left off (resume play), or add markers so that you can return directly to key points on your favorite discs. You can also set a disc or part of a disc to repeat over and over again, a useful feature for demonstrations or tradeshows. Other key features include a screensaver to protect the TV, parental lock, and the ability to choose from among multiple camera angles and multilingual subtitles (when available).

The unit can switch smoothly between TV, DVD, and VCR modes. The VCR's hi-fi stereo recording system offers excellent sound quality, with a dynamic range of 80 decibels, frequency response from 20 Hertz to 20 kilohertz and only 0.005% wow and flutter. The VCR's clock time conveniently sets itself when the unit is used within range of a PBS broadcast station. It will automatically rewind a tape when it reaches the end, and includes sleep and wakeup timers, as well as automatic repeat play, a useful feature for demonstrations or tradeshows. In addition to programmable timer recording and daily and weekly timed recording, it also gives you instant, one-touch, timed recording of anywhere from 30 to 480 minutes. The VCR records at two speeds, SP (Standard Play) and SLP (Super Long Play). In SLP mode, you can search forward or backward through your recordings at either high or super-high speeds. In SP mode, you can search at high speed. Automatic power on/off saves time, turning the TV/VCR on automatically whenever you insert a tape, and turning it off and ejecting a tape after automatically rewinding it.

The TV's 181-channel cable-ready tuner can program channels automatically, a real timesaving feature (a separate cable converter may be required to display scrambled channels). The TV's onscreen menus can be displayed in English, Spanish, or French, and it's capable of displaying Closed Captioning. It has a sleep timer and V-Chip parental control.

The sound system includes two stereo 1-watt, front-firing speakers with virtual surround sound and a headphone jack for private listening. Dynamic range control allows you to control the range of the sound volume, and Dolby Digital sound output (via an RCA jack) lets you send digital, multichannel sound signals from compatible DVDs to any audio/video receiver with a compatible input. The TV also includes video and stereo audio inputs in the front of the set.

beware of faulty DVD player.......2006-02-21

We bought this set in November 2004. In February 2006, three months after the warranty expired, the DVD player conked out. Otherwise we've been happy with the set. The VCR still works and the video and audio quality are good for the price. But because of the problem with the DVD player, we cannot recommend this model.

Piece of JUNK!!.......2005-08-25

I bought this TV based on a previous good experience with Sylvania. I quess Sylvania's QUALITY HAS GONE DOWN THE TUBE!! Wish I would have gone with a separate dvd/vcr instead of this built in one!!!! The vcr broke within 9 months with only occasional adult use and no abuse! and the dvd player is now dead and it hasn't even been a year and we maybe used the dvd 12-15 times!!!!!!!!I can only hope the tv lasts at least a few years and I can hook up another dvd/vcr player to it!! POOR quality when it breaks this fast!!! I DO NOT recommend buying this!!!!!!!!!!!!! or if you do make sure you get the extended warranty!!!!!!!!!! I for one will NEVER buy another Sylvania product!!!

Wonderful Combo.......2005-08-09

I have never had a TV in my bedroom and got this one because it had the DVD and VCR built into it. It is wonderful. The picture is great, both the DVD and VCR work well and one remote controls it all. Terrific.

Fantastic TV Plays All DVD Formats, MP3's and Real Player Fi.......2005-05-21

I love this TV. I received this TV as a christmas gift in 2004 and have been incredibly happy. I just popped it out of the box hooked my cable into the back and plugged it in (super easy). This tv has really cool functions and was easy to connect to my bose audio system. The VCR and DVD all in one option is just great and I love how it even plays Realplayer movies and MP3's. Also, I've never found a DVD, even homemade DVD's that wouldn't play in this player. I cant say enough about the color and clarity of picture, (much better than my Sony WEGA) and just incredible sound with all sound options (TruSurround, 5.1, Samart Audio etc). For those of you concerned about audio jacks this TV is loaded front and back including 1 set of RCA out for your Audio Sustem and 2 sets of input in the back and one in the front as well for a total of 3 sets of inbound jacks. Also the remote is friendy to use and very straight forward.

I waited to write this review because I wanted to take time to really put this set through its paces. I'm so glad I got this one. Take my word for it this is a really great TV and incredible value. Also, being an apartment dweller this TV was easy to pack and move and set up when I moved to my new place. HANDS DOWN A WINNER :)!
