Good for one PC, not useful for a network.......2007-06-26

I failed to read the description deeply enough and bought this before I figured out that it doesn't support PPPoE, which is used by most DSL providers. This is not a problem if you have one Windows box, because you can just run a software PPPoE client and all's well.

However, if you have more than one device (e.g. your VoIP phone, or other computers), this will probably not work for you. I'm not sure about PPPoE software for Macintoshes, check for yourself.

Solid & Reliable Modem.......2007-01-10

I've used this modem for 3 months now and find it to be easy to set up and use. The pass thru design ensures it will be compatible with any router used. The fact that it is a bridge modem and doesn't have any router or firewall capability was exactly what I was looking for. A very sturdy and reliable unit.

Zoom DSL 5615 Modem ..........2007-01-06

This a great DSL modem, but be careful during installation. Just either install the ISP DSL software, if available, or use the Zoom installation software and you'll be online immediately. Warning: Don't install both programs, like I did at first. Installing both programs on my computer confused my wireless Netgear router when I tried to install it. It wouldn't detect the settings properly. I had to uninstall the Zoom software from my computer and reset the Zoom DSL modem and Netgear router back to factory settings. Once I did that, I plugged in the modem and connected it back to the router and the router installed correctly. Since then, the Zoom modem has been working fine with no problems and I highly recommend it.

I purchased this item a few months ago but I do remember I received it in a timely manner and it worked great.

I have a Verizon DSL line which is close to the boundary of usable in CA. The modem supplied by Verizon worked well for 2 years, but started to loose sync every 40 minutest to 2 hours -- requiring a modem reboot. (My suspicion is that Verizon changed the policy for assigning Dynamic IP addresses as well as some subtle protocol changes which were not stable on the old modem. I debated buying a new Westel modem, but decided to try the Zoom 5615 since it was a newer design and I could get some technical info on the next for this product. It worked
as-is, came up and the connection has never been better. Seems to be slightly faster than the westel-- but by only a tiny amoun -- and I supposed to get 768kb/s and I get
88kB/s-- which works out to 704kb/s. Although Zoom is not supported by Verizon -- their support proved to be useless -- I spent 3 calls and over 4 hours doing more and more 'resets' of the equipment, only to lose the connection in an hour or so.
Plugged in zoom -- troubles stopped.
