Easy to use and reliable.......2007-03-18

Our FR114P was damaged by a lightening surge, and Netgear replaced it under warranty. I surge-protected the second one and we have used it for several years. This is a reliable unit and very easy to use. I have recommended it to friends, who were equally pleased. I also bought several for our portable LANs at work, and those have functioned beautifully, too. In summary, this is a great product that I highly recommend to those looking for a foolproof and easy to use cable/DSL router with robust firewall.

My first unit was defective. The second unit works well. This firewall works like a charm & has enough configs to make it a great solution. It turns out to be highly suspect to a little bit of extra electricity. Make sure you have it on a top quality surge protector.

PS: Kudos to Amazon. After getting an RMA for the first unit from Netgear, Amazon actually shipped me a new one before they got the defective unit back. All at no charge to me (no shipping etc...). That's why we love Amazon.

Finally! Something high-tech that basically installs itself. No hassle. No user-hostile experience. Why did I buy this? I had two LinkSys routers at home over three years and finally got fed up! With any network hiccup, I'd have to reboot the LinkSys routers and sometimes re-install the configuration software.

I tried another router with the same user-hostile experience. I bought this product -- the Netgear FR114P -- based on reviews. I wanted "plug-and-play" or as close as I could get. I didn't want the hassle of installing software that ultimately fought with me. Yes, I can read and follow directions. But for Pete's sake, humans played golf on the moon 35 years ago. Why can't they invent a router that just plain works out of the box?

I plugged the router into my network and had all my home PCs online in just a few minutes. It comes with software, but not necessary for basic functions.

For the money, this was bargain for the trouble it saves in installation.

Totally Reliable.......2006-06-01

This router has worked great for the past year. We have 3 Linux computers connected to DSL through it.

One PC is at the far end of the house. We use two Novatech Powerline Ethernet Adapters to connect that PC to the Netgear router through our home powerline wiring. Netgear and Novatech work fine together, with no DSL speed degredation.

The browser interface is easy to use. The firewall features are easy enough for the inexpert user to understand.

The manual is good, but I would prefer to have a hard copy.
