Designed to be small and lightweight, the Apple Portable Power Adapter is the perfect traveling companion. The adapter has a clever design which allows the DC cable to be wound neatly around itself for easy cable storage. Colored status LEDs, located in the head of the DC-connector that plugs into your Apple portable, indicate charging status. An amber ring lets you know that your portable is charging, while a green ring tells you that you have a full charge.
An AC cord is provided with the adapter for maximum cord length, while the AC wall adapter (also provided) gives users an even easier and more compact way to travel. Designed to fit in the palm of your hand, the new power adapter is as innovative as the product it serves.
This power adapter recharges the lithium-ion battery while the system is off, on, or in sleep mode. It also powers the system if you choose to operate without a battery.

Achilles heel of a great computer.......2007-06-21
Note that the answer is NOT an iGo (and rebranded ones from Kensington). Google it, and you'll find these simply stop working between 12 and 18 months... the light will start flashing, and then it's landfill time.
I'm buying a replacement model NWTAPLN2M from Newer Technology with 3-year warranty, which is about the only real option out there.
Poor quality!.......2007-06-01
"Gordon v. Apple Computer, Inc. - Filed August 31, 2006 on behalf of a nationwide class of consumers, the lawsuit alleges defects in the 65W power adapters sold with iBooks and PowerBooks from November 2002 to the present. The complaint lists various problems with the 65W Adapter, including fraying, sparking and premature failure. Apple answered the lawsuit onOctober 20, 2006 denying all allegations. Mediation was held March 13, 2007; the litigation has been suspended pending ongoing settlement discussions."
I've had a 14" iBook G4 for 1 1/2 years and am on my third adapter. With normal, non-abusive use, each adapter has had the same problems -- wire coating that breaks easily, exposing metal that frays.
Stylish but fragile.......2007-05-18
The cord cover broke at the computer end, so close to the plug that not even my husband (electrical engineer) can repair it, even temporarily. It's sparking and I won't leave it plugged in anymore for fear it will start a fire. A little reinforcement in this area would have made a HUGE difference, but there's nothing except a small piece that's not even attached to the plug (naturally, the break occurred BETWEEN the shamefully lame "reinforcement" and the plug - what genius thought that was going to do anything except make it worse?).
I'm off to check out the iGo Juice and the other third party product mentioned before my battery dies completely.
terrible!.......2007-04-17
I cannot believe Apple did not issue a recall with these - a huge problem, especially since I was counting on my ibook to last at least a few years. Apple normally makes great products, but they really screwed up this time. They've certainly alienated me, I was a new convert and I love the computer, but for this reason I don't know that I would buy from them again. $75 every few months just isn't reasonable.
Get them while they last.......2007-03-18
And when they are gone, you will be out of luck. The Power Adapter has a tendency to frey and break fairly easily, hence Apple redesigning the adapter on thier next Gen Powerbook. My advice is to take VERY good care of it, as it may be your the big dirt nap for your powerbook. And not to mention that if you have no power source, you have a fleeting 2hours left with your powerbook, squeezing whatever life you can out of that thing Apple calls a battery. Spend it wisely.
I bought 2 power adapters when the last one I had went out. I now have two spares, so I can continue to use my powerbook longer than anyone ever thought possible.
