Amazon.com Product Description

The Linksys EtherFast cable/DSL router connects multiple PCs to a high-speed broadband Internet connection or to an Ethernet backbone. Configurable as a DHCP server, the EtherFast router acts as the only externally recognized Internet device on your local area network (LAN). The router can also be configured to block internal users' access to the Internet. A typical router relies on a hub or a switch to share its Internet connection, but the Linksys EtherFast router channels this connection through the full-duplex speed of its built-in EtherFast 10/100 four-port switch. This combination of router and switch technology eliminates the need to buy an additional hub or switch and serves your network as a completely dedicated, full-duplex backbone. Now your entire network can enjoy broadband Internet connections supported by its switched backbone. This unit requires an external cable or DSL modem with an Ethernet RJ-45 interface. This product comes with a one-year warranty.

Note: All Linksys routers now include a special edition of Norton Internet Security! Claim your free CD-ROM by calling (800) 814-0180, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Pacific, seven days a week.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Great, simple router.......2007-07-02

I've been running two of these for about 2 months now, one at home and the other in a small business, without any trouble. Easy setup, I like the web browser interface. No command line B.S. All you need is your DNS address from your ISP and if they need DHCP or use a static ip address.

4 out of 5 stars Easy to set up, takes a bit of effort to keep it solid.......2007-06-03

I needed something to share the DSL connection between two computers in separate rooms. I already had holes in the walls for a network connection with a crossover cable and had network cards installed, so I didn't need a wireless router and receivers. I decided on getting this one due to being familiar with the company's cable modem.

Setting up the computers with the router was simple with the help of the CD installation program. The router automatically treated the crossover cable as a regular ethernet cable which saved me another trip to the store. Updating the firmware was also easy to do and no problems came out of that.

A few weeks later, the Linksys router kept resetting itself every 15 minutes every time I had torrent connections going. Through some online searching, I found out that my DSL modem had a built-in router as well and there was some conflict with the Linksys router. After switching off most of the auto-detect options and manually entering in most of the connection settings on both the DSL modem and Linksys router, the router was rock-solid again.

As long as the firmware is up to date and there are no conflicts between the modem and router, it should work without problems.

1 out of 5 stars lol no wireless.......2007-05-31

Who would buy this outdated thing now? This thing has NO wireless capabilities. It doesn't even have a cool looking antennae (which everyone knows is just for show but hey, whatever sells). DON'T waste your money on this and get a WRT54GL and then flash DD-WRT onto it for a $600 class router.

4 out of 5 stars Works well after initial setup issues.......2007-05-29

I bought this router to replace a D-Link one that had intermittent connection problems. The initial setup had some issues as the router could not connect to the Internet via my DSL modem. It took a couple of calls to tech support to get it working. However, it appears to work well once it is up and running.

1 out of 5 stars Less than one star.......2007-05-21

It was bought used. Shipped without inside wrapping. No wiring. And to top this, the item was taped around several times (as if to hold it together) and when the tape was removed it fell apart plus it was dirty/oily inside.

1 out of 5 stars Utter Junk.......2007-06-28

Hardware version: 7000. Firmware version: 9.01.05.

This thing was an utter waste of my time. The radio button for enabling and disabling UPnP always came up disabled, even if I just selected Enabled and clicked Apply Changes. When I checked for an update to the firmware through the web interface, I got the error message, "Cannot connect to the firmware information server, please double check the wan connection." even though all computers on the LAN were able to access the internet at that time. Then the router would lose it's internet connection during big downloads. A quick check of the logs showed that the router was sending out DHCP requests every two minutes. Belkin tech support was a joke. "Try disabling any pop up or antivirus software before applying changes, try from another computer. [sic]" Really? Funny how no other router I've encountered thus far has EVER had trouble with pop-up blockers or anti-virus software.

5 out of 5 stars Easy to use.......2007-06-25

I have heard comments from people who have trouble getting their routers to work properly. But, this router worked fine out of the box. Setup was very easy. After a few days I went back and added 128 bit WEP security. That went well, too.

I did read other reviews and noted some said heat from the unit caused failures. I made a wire stand to hold the router off a window sill so air can cool it as well as possible. I have been using it only a week, but I have also unintentionally left it "on" for a whole day with no problems and no accumulated heat.

The range is very good.

1 out of 5 stars Piece of TRASH!.......2007-06-18

I agree with the previous rating....we must bring that star rating of three down! This router...I don't even want to call it a router....This contraption is a complete waste of money! I know it's cheaper than many others, but gosh! It's not worth the twenty dollars I paid! It loses the connection every 2-3 minutes. That's ridiculous considering my pc is only about four feet (and with a clear path) from the thing. The router gets so hot after about 30 minutes, the base may actually burn you. Do not even conjure up the idea in head to consider buying this! Congrats, Belkin! You have out done yourself with this piece of s**t!

1 out of 5 stars Don't buy it unless you have a room temperature under 60C.......2007-06-14

I bought it in winter and it worked great until the hot days came. I don't like to use AC when the room temp is only 70 some degree. But this router doesn't like the temperature. I believe it is heating problem because once you unplug the power for a while and let it cool down, it will start to work, only not more than 1 minutes. Dont waste you money.

2 out of 5 stars Drops connection.......2007-06-11

This thing drops connections a little too frequently to be of much use. Sometimes it drops the connections 3-4 times in a day. Earlier it was dropping connections and hanging a bit more frequently. Then I read somewhere that the base of the router gets very hot, which makes it drop connections and become useless. So I now keep it tilted to increase air-flow. That has helped a bit.

Because of this router, I think I am using my neighbors network more often than mine. I think I should ask her what router she has :-)

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Super.......2007-05-31

I ordered and received this product very quickly with no glitches...I would be happy to do business with tis merchant again in the future.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Product.......2007-05-21

We simply plugged it up to replace our old, similar, router. Set a couple internal settings, and it's been running smooth since.

4 out of 5 stars LinksysBEFSR81.......2007-05-19

This is a replacement for an earlier version of the same product that I've used
for many years of trouble-free operation. I bought the same product because of
its reliability and performance. It serves our wired devices as well as a
wireless network that sits behind it. Basically it's a Mac network, OS7 through 10.4,
although I do run the odd PC on it now and then. Throughput on this router is
better than the older version (which is moving to a smaller network). It's
easily configured and the log functions allow you to see if others are trying to
access your network.

4 out of 5 stars Linksys BEFSR81.......2007-01-03

A Good buy. Very user friendly and works trouble-free so far. The only negative is the unit should have wall mount capability.

1 out of 5 stars Linksys BEFSR81 Cable/dsl Route Ver.3.......2006-12-31

I am very dissapointed with this router. It has slowed down my connection speed to a snails pace. I downloaded the firmware upgrade and changed the propety settings as suggested by linksys but this router still lags. I cannot use it to play online games or logon to my company citrix server without experiencing long delays when communcating. I have a sprint/pcs aircard on my laptop and it has a faster connection speed than this unit! I had a belkin 4 port/wireless router that I was using for 3 years and never had problems like this. The amount of time I wasted and frustration I have experienced trying to get this unit to work properly doesnt make it a deal at any price they are asking. Maybe it works ok for basic email or chatrooms but Good Luck getting it to reliably transfer data at high speed if you rely on your router. I give it 1 star because it did connect to the internet.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Great router.......2007-06-27

This is a great router for home wireless internet. It has both A and G wireless. It took some time for me to set up and i have to reset it once every blue moon but that takes 30 sec. and is no problem. it has good range and single strength although i can only get 4/5 when i am right next to it, but the transfer rate is excellent and i get 4/5 for about 120 ft. so i am very content. i would highly recommend this item to you.

4 out of 5 stars Majority of people below are technologically illiterate..........2007-06-27

The product works great and despite what others say it was super easy to setup; even for a first timer like me. The only draw back I had was that the 802.11a signal wasn't quite as strong as the 802.11b but given the wireless signal has to travel through 3 walls to the other end of my house it's still manages a strong connection. Great product.

1 out of 5 stars Linksys WRT55AG - - Can I rate less than 1 star ?.......2007-06-27

Product worked well for about a week and then suffered a major component failure and won't work even as a router!

My regret, was relying on the name brand of product instead of buying based on other people's product reviews. After failure, I read reviews and found out this product was HIGHLY UNRELIABLE with unacceptable MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures). In other words it is JUNK!!

I have bought a NET GEAR Wireless router and have been totally satisfied.

Netgear WGR614 54 Mbps 2.4 GHz Cable or DSL Wireless RouterNetgear WGR614 54 Mbps 2.4 GHz Cable or DSL Wireless Router

1 out of 5 stars The worst router ever.......2007-06-22

Just don't buy this router.

VPN for company network access doesn't work, blocks incoming data.
Router resets itself spontaneously, sometimes never settling down until you take the power off it for half an hour.
I thought it might be a dud but even after getting Amazon to send me a new one I have the same problems.

Useless piece of kit. I wish I had never wasted the money.

2 out of 5 stars Access Point.......2007-06-20

The router and switch functions work ok but get bogged down and the unit needs to be reset. The bad part is that it is not an access point as advertised.

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Piece of Junk.......2007-06-04

I bought the DI-624 router as an upgrade from my old DI-514. After more than six months of use, I've decided to retire it and bring back my old, slower router which had never given me a bit of trouble. The DI-624 was constantly losing internet connectivity and required lots of resetting maintenance.

3 out of 5 stars Reliable, but the range could be better.......2007-05-22

This is a solid, dependable WiFi router. I found the instructions to set up a password were nonexistent and the web interface was not all that user-friendly, but fortunately phone help resolved it. I wish mine had as good a range as others here, but so many factors influence that, I can't fault d-link. I did get an antenna booster, the D-Link ANT 24-0700, which boosts the range a lot, but not enough for me! In all, it has worked for almost two years, so I can't complain ...

4 out of 5 stars Performs as Promised.......2007-05-15

I read many reviews before purchasing the D-Link DI-624 Wireless Router and although there were negative comments, there were more for any other acceptable alternative. I'm a Mac user and found it tricky to set up, calling tech support before I got it right. But now that it's up and running, it works perfectly. My MacBook Pro gets a full signal anywhere in the house, and most of my yard which is over an acre. I downgraded it to four stars for the lack of comprehensive instructions, but their tech support was both courteous and very helpful. After a couple of months now, It still works seamlessly, allowing my portable wireless internet access and my desktop access through Ethernet connection. Based upon my experience, I recommend this for others as well.

2 out of 5 stars shipping.......2007-05-15

The router is good- ... 3btech is less than dismal on shipping
I ordered with a 3day select ups ship and received over the 3 day
period - they had some lame story about not shipping until the 1st full business day - .. which was two days AFTER I placed the order - they refused to do anything refund wise -

I will never do business with them again-

5 out of 5 stars Rock stable and trouble free........2007-06-20

I got this router after suffering with Linksys for years. As far as wireless networking goes, this is the best decision I've made.

My old router was plagued with dropped connections, poor performance, and other glitches. With this router, I've never had to reset it even once. It's up 24x7.

I upgraded it to the DD-WRT Linux firmware last week. There are some pretty cool features including ssh access, VPN support, etc. It's been working great.

You may also want to try the "tomato" firmware which is supposed to be even better for network throughput.

5 out of 5 stars Works great with Windows Vista.......2007-06-16

This wireless router was one of the easiest I have ever set up. It has excellent range and connectivity. Works perfectly with Vista. When you initially try to install the CD it may tell you that it's not compatible, but if you try running setup a couple of times it installs and runs just fine! A great value and superior to Linksys.

5 out of 5 stars This Router Rocks big time.......2007-05-15

I work in the internet and I'm a serious tech user but was a total newbie in WIFI (I know, shame on me xD ). After buying a new laptop I decided I had to have WIFI at home (since is where I do my work).

Really, I was about to go for a linksys... after researching a little over the net I went for this Buffalo and believe me: is the greatest choice I could make.

The only thing: You HAVE to flash it with DD-WRT (it took me about 10 minutes/12 tries). the DD-WRT menus are easy to navigate and understand and the router is working without a rest since I installed it (I'm online 24/7), no need to reset or anything. You don't need to be afraid about flashing it, in the DD-WRT website they tell you step-by-step how to do it and is VERY easy.

It has a pretty decent range, in my place it goes throug 3 o 4 walls with a decent signal and is very easy to set security setting (I encrypted my signal and established the mac adresses that could connect to my network, plus, is very easy to set new mac adresses).

Trust me, Buffalo is the way to go if you want to go wireless, no highway here ;)

5 out of 5 stars Great router!.......2007-05-14

I've had this for a few months and haven't had a single problem. It's slim and attractive, and set up was quick and easy. Highly recommended.

4 out of 5 stars Definitely would recommend this router.......2007-05-12

I got this router when we moved and the only broadband web connection was through our cable. My old DSL modem/router combo wouldn't work, so I decided that I would finally get a router with wireless capability. Based on others' reviews of the Buffalo WHR-G54S I decided to go with it.

The price was definitely right. I could scarcely believe that it was as inexpensive as it was. The footprint of the unit is also right. It stands on end, making it take up only a little space on the desktop.

The only reason I wouldn't give this 5 stars is that it was a *little* difficult to configure. The CD-ROMs they provide with it help you set up the router and add a wireless connection manager to your laptop computer. The router setup got hung up on a seemingly crucial step, and it was only because I got fed up with the process and decided to "backdoor" it that I got it working. The wireless connection manager software took a few times to "remember" that I only ever used it for one wireless connection. After that, it works fine every time I start it up.

One issue that I don't know what to do about is that my cordless phones interfere with my wireless router. Every time my wife uses the cordless phone, my laptop's Internet connection drops and the wireless connection manager loses the router's signal. I've switched channels on the router to avoid this problem, but it hasn't corrected itself. Still, since the Buffalo broadcasts on the same channels as every other comparable wireless router, I assume other routers would also have the same problem.

In all, I would recommend this router. It's decently powerful (though I haven't tested its range limits), not terribly hard to configure, and has served its purpose well.

Wireless networks are rapidly becoming more popular and coming down in price. Since they don't require cables, you can use the devices anywhere in an office or home, even out on the patio. There's no need to roll out an Ethernet network cable to each room of a house; you can network anywhere -- without wires. Outside of the home, wireless networking is available in hotspots at coffee shops, businesses, airports -- great when you're on the road and need to get some work done. For convenience, wireless networking is the answer.

What Wireless Standard is Right for Me?
Now that you've decided to create a wireless network, the next step is to figure out which wireless standard to use.

Basically, a standard is a set of specifications for a device. All devices that follow a specific standard share operating characteristics, such as the radio frequency used and maximum data transfer speed.

For wireless networking, there are three standards to choose from at this time:

  • 802.11b
  • 802.11a
  • 802.11g

To learn about the differences between the standards and select the right one for your network, click here for an easy-to-understand chart.

4 out of 5 stars Works as advertised.......2007-05-27

This router was relatively easy to setup once I figured out that the (MC) antivirus software on the system was getting in the way, and I turned off the antivirus software. It would have been useful if the setup software warned about the problem; I needed to guess that the antivirus software was an issue without any warnings from either piece of software.

5 out of 5 stars Easy to use.......2007-05-24

Wasn't looking for much but wanted something I could drop in place and not worry about it. So far this product has fit the bill.

4 out of 5 stars Peace of Mind.......2007-05-12

Living on a miltary base there are several wireless networks available. Not everyone is cautious enough to protect their networks. Having a physical firewall with a wireless router provides the added protection to keep "harvesters" off of our network. The downside was setting up the firewall through the wireless router. After several trials and errors we got our network connected securely. The setup instructions were useful to a point. A strong backround in computers was a necessity to successfully install in our case.

4 out of 5 stars Easy to use router.......2007-04-03

I was very happy with the ease of setup for this router. I went with this brand because of prior experience with Linksys and very happy I did. It was up and running in no time at all. The linksys equipment I have used has been very dependable.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent and simple front end.......2007-03-25

This is the second of these units I have used over the years and I have found it easy enough for beginners to set up and plenty of scope for more advanced useage. We use Macintosh systems here exclusively with only the occasional PC in use and have experienced no problems at all setting up the Firewall using the Web based configuration system.
The price is right for a front end hardware based Firewall that prevents a lot of the more common attacks. OF course like anything it can only stop attacks it recognizes so a Software Firewall that is constantly modifiable is also a good idea. I do feel that I have at least a decent sentry on guard for my Home network and it's ability to email a list of attempted entries is useful, especially as a lot of these attempts are legitimate and I have missed permitting them access.

For a SOHO operation this Firewall would suffice in many cases.

5 out of 5 stars Great router. Like the Energizer bunny........2007-05-26

For many years I bought Linksys products but starting about 5 years ago I noticed that each Linksys router had a useful life of about a year and after that it was always the same problem (the router would begin to fail to resolve certain domain names. Usually frequently visit sites. For me it was my bank and sites I paid bills on). This would happen at random intervals and go on for varying amounts of time. Resetting didn't resolve it nor did firmware updates or restoring factory defaults. I got fed up and bought this guy a couple of years ago and its still going strong. Easy to configure and setup. Great performance. Extremely reliable.

4 out of 5 stars Simple but works.......2007-05-14

Bought this a while back... I think it was one of the few that was pre-tested to support XBOX Live. It worked fine. No troubles at all. Simple and easy to use.

5 out of 5 stars Works just like it should.......2007-03-28

Had a wireless D-Link router for a while that I ended up wearing out the LAN ports on and got fed up with poor wireless reception. Wired house with Cat5e and bought this router to share connection with other PC's in the house. Works great and was pretty simple to setup. Works just fine with a DES-1105 switch that is also in the network. I have XP Pro, XP Home, Linux (Ubuntu 6.06 LTS), Win98, and an XBOX360 all running and connected with this router/switch. What's not to like.....going to try an (G) access point for the kids PSP next to see if wireless is any better now.

5 out of 5 stars Flawless.......2007-02-16

We have been using this router in our apartment for a few months now and it has been flawless. I like that the setup was done through a web interface, which makes this router compatible with Linux. This was something that was a must for me.

The setup took only a few minutes and I have not had to touch the router even once, which is more than I can say for any other router I have owned. I would recommend this router to anyone looking for a good bargain. It's a steal!

4 out of 5 stars BEST FIRST TIME ROUTER.......2007-02-13

I spent alot of time looking for a cable router/switch. I was going to
go with a more advanced unit, but for my first try I wanted a fast and simple set-up; and I wanted wired for simplicity and privacy. This little guy has been great! Fast and easy set-up in win 2000 pro. I have it plugged into a back up power supply and its been running 24/7 for 1 year
without a single glitch. I was going to repace it with a high end unit -
but probably wont bother. If you are a newbe to cable routing or just dont have the time for more set-up hassles, you wont beat this unit.

I forget how I got it to work with win 2000 pro, but this was highly
automatic and I suspect xp would be simple also.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome plug 'n play router.......2007-04-29

I was a little hesitant after reading all the negative reviews here, but knowing that most people are just plain lame when it comes to tech issues, [...]. I followed the instructions all the way up through plugging in the power adapter. At that point, I didn't have to do anything else, my network was now connected. As I turned on the rest of the pc's and laptop, they all connected to the internet immediately. My home wired network consists of 3 pc's and a laptop, all running XP. BTW, after installing this router (my previous router was a Netgear wireless router, that gave me intermittent connection problems), my measured download speed increased 33%, to 8096 kbps.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect for SOHO remote access.......2007-01-04

The Linksys BEFVP41 is perfect for remotely accessing a small home network with a static IP address. The connections are secure and the setup is extremely easy. Using tools such as the LinSys IPSec Tool, accessing one's home network is extremely easy. I recommend this product to any small- or even medium-sized office that wishes to connect multiple locations or support remote/roaming users.

1 out of 5 stars terrible.......2006-11-20

This has to be one of the worst routers I've used. First, it gives me a ping reply only about 10% of the time and I have to hard reboot it to be able to log in and configure it. This results in me rebooting it about once every 2 days. Forwarded ports only work some of the time, and the only thing I have been able to reliably connect is internet to 3 computers. MY HTTP SERVER CANNOT CONNECT TO THE INTERNET EVEN THOUGH THE SERVER ITSELF CAN BE ACCESSED FROM THE WAN FREELY. HOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE?????????

Terrible.

3 out of 5 stars Works, but not reliably.......2006-10-14

In typical Linksys fashion, the firmware is the achilles heal...they just don't seem to be able to release a stable, reliable firmware for any of their devices and seem to just give up on ever fixing some of them. I've been using a V1 release of this unit for about 3 1/2 years now. As a router, it's been pretty solid (albeit a bit slow, especially with the 10mb/half-duplex WAN port) and I have to reset (power-cycle) it maybe 3-4 times a year. VPN setup is fairly straightforward (if you're using this as an endpoint with incoming tunnels and don't have a static IP, then you *must* use a dynamic DNS service), however this is where the unit stumbles. I have VPN's setup at client offices & home offices (about 15 tunnels total) and if I'm making a round-robin accessing different sites to do updates, etc, or I'm doing large data transfers over a tunnel, the VPN portion of the router will become unresponsive. Sometimes I can get it back by disconnecting & reconnecting the tunnel I was using when it froze, other times I have to power-cycle the router. Sometimes it will also fail to run the full process for creating a tunnel and I'll either have to keep hitting the connect button or power-cycle the unit. My other gripe is the 'dumbed down' VPN interface. Most clients & endpoints provide you with the capability to configure ID info for local & remote...this is glaringly absent on this unit and has caused me many a fit when trying to setup connections from higher end units like the Zyxel Zywall 50 that I'm in the process of replacing the Linksys with. I do have one client running one of these at their main office with a BEFSX41 tunneling to it full-time from a remote/occasional use office and they've been running on it for about 3 years using cable internet & dynamic DNS and they have to reset their unit every other month or so...I think they're finally get tired enough of it to ante up the cash for a better box.

3 out of 5 stars Beware if you want to use this as a VPN server!.......2006-08-01

Linksys markets this unit as having a VPN server that you can use to access the network it's connected to remotely (ie connect to your office network from your home computer). But be wary that this is not a simple task, is nearly undocumented, and may require additional 3rd party software if you have Windows XP Home edition. I spent more than a week and a half trying to make a VPN connection from my home PC, several tech support conversations, and used several forums and was never able to connect.

Establish content filtering by Web address, keyword, or by time-of-day usage limits for your children. You can also choose to receive e-mailed reports of browsing activities and optional real-time e-mail alerts. A NAT (Network Address Translation) firewall with VPN (virtual private network) pass-through protects against Internet attacks, but allows you secure access. Auto partitioning on each port protects each computer from damaged network connections. A free, one-year subscription to Freedom security and privacy software blocks ads and prevents personal information from being sent over the Internet (for up to eight Windows-based computers).

Four ultrafast 10/100 Mbps LAN ports automatically detect computer speed to optimize network performance (up to 200 Mbps with full duplex) at a distance of 100 meters (328 feet). With double the memory and a 50 percent faster CPU than many popular routers, the Web Safe Router gateway is well-equipped to distribute large-file multimedia presentations in no time.

Even without networking experience, this gateway is easy for anyone to set up and use. The Smart Setup wizard automatically detects your Internet connection type and the animated Install Assistant guides you through each step. Status lights make it easy to observe network activity. A space-saving vertical stand and a free network cable are included.

The Netgear RP614NA comes with a three-year limited warranty.

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars It's 50% great and 50% a pain.......2007-05-10

The rounter works very well; and worth the cost.
But, to be able to use it be prepared to spend lots of time on the phone to India getting it working. The customer service people were very helpful, but I was on the phone two times over an hour each time.

1 out of 5 stars Sometimes, sometimes not, then not at all.......2007-04-23

So here's the thing, when I lived in Phoenix, and I had this certain cable internet provider, and it worked. Granted I had a bit of trouble getting it to work right off the bat. But, then it worked, and that was that.

Then I move to Albuquerque, and this other cable internet provider, and I could not get it to work. I even called Netgear, and even though the guy on the line was very nice, and very helpful, it still wouldn't work!

I finally went down to the store, and got myself a new router by a different manufacturer, and that one worked.

4 out of 5 stars very nice hardware, but.......2007-04-12

I bought this to replace another maker's wired router that simply didn't work. I have a mixed Mac / Win network. The size of the unit was much smaller, and the design much cleaner than the other router; I was very pleased with this. The trouble came when I tried to do a manual installation from the main Mac computer. It simply didn't work. So I used the Windows-only installation CD on a desktop running Win 2K, but the process would not complete. Finally, I used a laptop running Win XP and installation finally completed. The process took an entire morning. But there aren't really any other wired DSL routers for a Mac/Windows network, so I didn't have much choice but to endure the process. Now that it's up and running, it was worth the trouble. The claim that several computers can use the router without throughput being negatively affected seems to be true.

5 out of 5 stars so far so good!.......2007-04-11

I ordered this product used a few weeks ago. It literally took me seconds to hook up my computers! It works great too... up until now the biggest problem we've had is that someone accidentally unplugged it and we couldn't figure out why we went offline all of a sudden! This product more than met my expectations and was a great buy for $20!

5 out of 5 stars Version 4 is a big improvement.......2007-02-22

The latest version of this router, version 4, is quite an improvement over previous editions. The case is more heavy and solid, and less flimsy, while the design is a little more compact.

The web interface also added an easy-to-read progress bar when making big changes like firmware upgrades, as well as a nice tutorial for first-time users.

The earlier editions did the job well, but I think this latest version of the router is more polished and professional. Pick this router up if you're doing a small home or small office network. It's a good investment.
