The PN8228/IR8228 from Hawking is the ideal solution for Home Office and Small Office Internet Sharing Severs. This Router is equipped with two External Modem Ports (RS 232 Serial) that allow you to connect two modems/ISDN to the same ISP or two different ISP's. The PN8228's sophisticated utility software is very easy to use and installation is quick and easy with Windows setup utilities. The NAT (Network Address Translator) connects multiple computers to the Internet through a single connection. Bandwidth-on-demand automatically connects/disconnects the user to save money and unnecessary Internet usage fees. The Remote Access Server (RAS) client/server connection allows remote dial-in access to the corporate LAN. The Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) automatically assigns a client IP address. Visible computer allows up to 2 computers on private LAN to be visible to the public Internet. Furthermore, the PN8228 works with standard TCP/IP Network applications.

For those who need to share a dial-up connection, this hardware solution is a life saver. This box connects to the network via Ethernet, and is always ready to establish a connection. It is not necessary to have a 'connection sharing' computer always on to dial out. Physical installation was very simple: connect the box to the network and power, and connect a modem to it. The software is simple to install and configure if all you want to do is share a connection. It also offers very advanced features. It will stay in place even after I get a cable or DSL connection, as a back-up.
