Nortel Networks offer Quad Ethernet with FRE 060 Intelligent Link Interface module. FRE 060 modules connect to the Parallel Packet Express (PPX) via the PPX Interface (PPXI), and connect directly to its link module via a private processor-link module inter-connect. The link interface, PPXI, and memory are all connected by 32-bit internal data paths for efficient data transfers.Nortel Networks FRE 060 processors for the BLN and BCN are high-performance packet processing engines that meet the requirements of high-bandwidth applications. The FRE 060 achieves forwarding rates exceeding 165, 000 pps (64-byte packets) and is available with 16 MB, 32 MB, or 64 MB of configurable local and global memory (DRAM) for program, data, and packet buffer storage. Based on a 60-MHz Motorola MC68060 processor, the FRE 060 is offered on high-performance ILIs supporting Ethernet, 100BASE-T, Token Ring, Octal Sync, HSSI, ATM, FDDI, and MCT1/E1. Additionally, the Octal Sync link module can be configured with a hardware compression coprocessor that provides an aggregate compressed throughput of 4 Mbps per link module operating an E1 line at full duplex.
