yes, it's a router. the print server is very slow, don't expect hp jetdirect performance, maybe 1/3 the throughput.

Returned product after one day.......2005-01-15

I bought this router to make my internet connection more reliable. It went down three time in the first day (I wrote a longer review here but lost it when it went down the third time).

I did call SMC technical support which is available 24x7. They had me set the link speed/duplex from Auto-detect to 10mbs/half duplex. This did not fix the problem. She told me I needed to keep rebooting the router. I'm sure the router has been much more stable because others have given this five stars but I can't trust the uptime on this box and based on my one star experience.

A very good router.......2004-07-22

After doing an entensive research on routers, I decided to buy SMC7004ABR. It's a very good router and very easy to install. I have two computers (will build the third one later) and all of them have network adapter card installed previously. All I need to do is to connect my PCs to SMC7004ABR router.

Later, I connect this router to a DSL modem. After some settings, all my computers can access the Internet through router.

I recommand SMC7004ABR to everyone who is looking for a good router.

I have nothing much to say about this little hard-wired router
SMC should keep producing this product
the most impressed part is stability
almost no disconnect/hanging with verizon DSL
the print server works fine as well
the only gripe is a little bit slow with UDP, no big deal
SMC has made some masterpieces

SMC 2804WBR (grey version, not silver one), this one REALLY HAS SUPER RANGE with appropriate antenna, better than MS MN700, both "624" so-called Super G

SMC X 3.......2004-04-07

Bought the 7004 ABR when an ISP promised that they would supply a broadband connection. Well that was 18 months ago and it didn't happen. Just got cable so I hook-up the router, it came out of the box DOA. Called customer support they shipped out a new one...although I purchased it 18 months prior the replacement was "no-charge". Customer support was easy to contact. The replacement router with print server work great. Nice doing business with companies that stand behind their products.

I've used it for a year now on a single computer. If you have a single computer, you still need one of these. It works without a PPOE client and logs in all on its own. When I turn the computer on the ol' DSL is ready and waiting. When I visit the security checking services I grade at the top of the class without a piece of firwall software wasting memory. I'd give up DSL as easily as giving up a router...and that ain't a gonna happen...

P.S. Works great with a cable modem too...

The product is just great. Easy to use, easy to configure and [inexpensive]. I strongly recommend it. HOWEVER you have to be very persistent to get your rebate. I don't know if it's because they're understaffed or if they're hoping that people will forget or get bored. Anyway, it has taken me almost four months of chasing them before they said the check has been sent. I'm wondering why I haven't received it yet...
They would have 5 stars if they were serious with the rebates.

Best Bang for the Buck.......2002-04-22

This device has met and exceded all of my expectations. The WEB Browser interface is straight forward. The downlable documentation is fully detailed. And, after my technically expert friends configured my Win2K network and FTP, SMC's tech support people patiently walked me through the fixes required to recover.

I have taken it through one firmware update, and it went seamlessly.

I am going to replace this one with it's wireless counter part so I can use my wife's laptop on our patio this summer.

Product is excellent. Easy to follow instructions and within an hour had my desktop and laptop both working on the net with no trouble. @home uses " mail " as their POP3 and SMPT addresses and as expected I could not get their mail... but after the end of the month it won't matter. A very good experience..
