The Skyline USB Adapter is an 11Mb 802.11b client device designed to work with any USB equipped desktop or notebook computer running Windows 98 SE, 2000, ME, or MacOS 9. The Skyline USB Adapter allows users to connect wirelessly to a Wi-Fi compatible access point, such as the Skyline Wireless Broadband Gateway or the Harmony 802.11b Access Point, for communications with computers and servers on an Ethernet network or establish an ad hoc, peer-to-peer network to share files quickly and easily.Utilizing the USB port for wireless networking allows users to easily install the Skyline USB Adapter without having to open their computer. The adapter is powered by the computer's USB port eliminating the need for an external power supply. Additionally, the 3' cable allows users to place the unit, with its incorporated antenna, up on top of the desk to improve range.Once installed, the Skyline USB Adapter can be easily configured through a control panel that is accessible via an icon in the Windows task bar or MacOS desktop icon. The control panel allows users to adjust settings, check signal strength and link quality, perform a site survey, monitor statistics, as well as adjust advanced features such as preamble type. The adapter supports 64- and 128-bit WEP for data encryption, which is also configurable through the same control panel.
