1 out of 5 stars Worst Cordless Phone Ever!!!.......2004-07-19

I purchased this phone to replace a single handset 900 Mhz Uniden phone that I loved. Since I am a gadget junkie I decided to go with the 2.4 Ghz, and to my surprise it was much worse. I read someone else's review that compared it to a cell phone, but my cell phone is more clear. I would recommend no one purchase this phone. It is a great concern that you can not even count on consistency from the manufacturers of cordless phones. Every time I buy a new phone, I always end up buying a different brand in order to find the quality I am looking for.

4 out of 5 stars Already Own Uniden TRU4485-2.......2004-04-10

I purchased the TRU446-2, because I wanted to add two more headsets to my existing Uniden TRU4485-2. Of course, good idea, bad implementation. The headsets are not compatible even though they look identical. Turns out the "-2" means that the maximum amount of headsets that will work with either base unit is two. So, instead of working as one base with four headsets, I really have two bases with two headsets each. Funtionally, I'm able to do what I originally wanted. However, I have to make sure the right headset goes on the right base! Nonetheless, I decided to keep them. Besides, I paid only $54 at Target for the TRU446-2. I'm happy with the headsets as they do what they are supposed to do. Sound quality is not the greatest, but I've never had a problem hearing or speaking. My only complaint is one of the headsets voice goes out. I have to bang it on the counter to get it to kick in. Once it works, it works fine. I have a feeling this is a defect as I've seen this complaint in another review. I'm hoping this does not occur on the other headsets. If it does, then I will give up on Uniden and buy a better quality system.

4 out of 5 stars Great value and an extra phone.......2004-02-14

What I like most about this phone is the extra hand set that does not need to be conected to a phone line. The main phone is coneceted to a line and the expanded is not allowing it to be very mobile. The only drawbacks are it is asmall phone so the buttens are tight and smal. As others have mentioned the charging station is a bit loose. Al in all I feel that it was a great deal for $65.

Edited on Dec 13 2004: After using the phones for almost a year. I will say I am happy with them BUT, If you have a wireless internet setup it will interfear with it and cause you to loose your connection. If you are shopping for a cordless be sure to get one that is a different MHZ than your wireless router.

4 out of 5 stars Good product, only a few drawbacks.......2004-01-25

This phone system is generally a good product. I have had it for over a year and have not seen any of the problems stated in the negative reviews. It has some drawbacks though. 1) You cannot use two of these phones at once, they use the same receiver and therefore the first phone on occupies the line. 2) You cannot transfer memory contents between phones as some product can. 3) It is no better in range than a quality 900MHz phone, but this is true of many 2.4GHz phones. 4) While talking, the phone transmissions will conflict with most home wireless PC networks.

On the plus side, it is a quality product with easy to use controls (as opposed to the Seimens units). The mute is relatively easy to use and the remote ear/mic jack is useful for headsets. The battery charge lasts longer than I've ever required.

5 out of 5 stars Great range! Great phone! Great buy!.......2003-11-13

I love this phone system! I bought it over a year ago and I still love it! The clarity is near-perfect, the range limit is great, and I love that you only need to plug it into one phone jack! The best part is storing personal phone numbers and then assigning them their own ring tone, so I always know who's calling before I answer the phone or even check the caller ID!

1 out of 5 stars Very poor reception, stay away from any appliances.......2001-07-21

Well I bought this phone becuase I had a uniden 900mhz phone and it had awesome reception. I could walk to the local supermarket, go inside and still get reception. The only problem is the power pack died. So I figured lets get a Uniden 2.4 Ghz. Well I can't even walk out my front door without this phone getting choppy and making all sorts of noise. If I walk by the microwave, I cannot hear the other person at all. This phone is worse than my 900Mhz. Very dissatisfied, but maybe its just my phone and not the model. Take it for what its worth.

3 out of 5 stars Some distorted sound.......2001-04-15

I bought one of these phones for my mother, who has a high-pitched voice and she sounded very distorted when using this phone. Seems to work just fine for lower pitched voices.

4 out of 5 stars Good Deal.......2001-02-03

The phone is well-made, has good clarity, excellent range and a very reasonable price for a 2.4 GHz unit /w base and handset call handling capability.

This is the best uniden phone procut I own. With 2.4 GHZ makes the call clearity a lot better than thos cheesey 900MHZ phones out there. With the opitional headset, it allows you to have totally hands free operation which allows you to have more productiveity while on those long business calls.

        Product Description

Panasonic KX-TG2570 is the perfect phone for maximum range. Innovative technologies extend the working range up to 8 times that of an analog 900MHz cordless phone. The two-antenna system on the base helps assure long range and consistent sound quality. The Digital Spread Spectrum technology is built in to increase the range and give you more security in your conversations. The KX-TG2570 model supports Caller ID with Visual Call Waiting; Caller ID Pager Call/Call Screening/Auto Interrupt functions and has a backlit 3-Line handset LCD. The phone features a long life battery that provides longer working hours.

        Amazon.com Review

Panasonic's KX-TG570B is a sleek 2.4 GHz SST cordless phone and answering machine combo. We were impressed with both the range and the voice quality of this phone, but the device suffers from a confusing design and a user interface that will stump anyone who doesn't keep the user manual around at all times.

The answering machine built into the base unit is all digital and can record up to 14 minutes worth of messages. You can retrieve and delete messages by using the handset, with which you can also turn the machine on and off. The handset itself is solidly built, with a rubber inlay on its side to provide a better grip and absorb shock if it's dropped. A three-line, high-resolution backlit LCD graces the front of the handset and displays all sorts of information, from caller-ID names and numbers to the menu items that comprise the phone's interface. This interface is the worst thing about the KX-TG2570B, as it's practically impossible to use without referring constantly to the manual. However, once mastered, it let us add our own phone directory to the unit and edit or delete Caller ID entries that automatically were added to the phone's database.

On the upside, the KX-TG570B's range and ability to penetrate walls blew away other 900 MHz cordless phones we've tested. With the base unit in a basement office (which in turn was in a brick building), we were able to leave the building and roam all over the parking lot with no loss in voice clarity. Additionally, the audio quality was superb as long as we stayed within range, with no hissing, popping, or other static present.

There are a few things about the KX-TG2570B that just don't make sense. You can answer incoming calls using the speakerphone in the base unit, but because it has no keys you can't place a call with it. The bay used to recharge the handset provides a loose fit, meaning the handset can easily tip forward and lose its electric connection. There's no mute button, and although the buttons on the handset are backlit, those on the base are not. This is a great-sounding phone with good range, but if you're looking for perfection, there are better options. --T. Byrl Baker

        Amazon.com Product Description

The Panasonic KX-TG2570 is one of the GigaRange Extreme phones--in fact, it offers Panasonic's longest-range spread-spectrum technology (SST) to date. Cordless phones with SST have greater output power than regular cordless phones because they transmit over the entire bandwidth, constantly changing frequency.

While conventional phones transmit and receive signals within the same band (which can result in interference between these signals), 2.4 GHz GigaRange Extreme SST cordless phones employ the use of two different frequencies: 2.4 GHz on the base and 900 MHz on the handset. This means that interference between these signals is minimized, thereby enhancing clarity and boosting range. A unique, proprietary circuitry design also helps these phones resist interference from other devices that share similar bands, like microwave ovens. Panasonic 2.4 GHz GigaRange Extreme cordless phones utilize SST in both the 2.4 GHz and 900 MHz bands.

This unique twin-band transmission, coupled with rugged design, allows you to take your conversations outdoors and to the extreme. Panasonic has also included a 2.5-millimeter headset jack and belt clip for hands-free operation. Its relatively small design enables you to simply slip the phone into your pocket when you're not using it. In addition, these phones are designed to stand up to everyday wear and tear. They are shock resistant and splash resistant, guarding them against damage caused by occasional dropping or spilling.

The KX-TG2570 also boasts two-way paging and automatic intercom, dual antenna system, backlit three-line LCD display on handset, 50-station caller ID memory and dialer, 30-station phone directory and dialer, navigator key, seven-hour battery charging system, and up to eight hours of talk time. The answering system includes call screening, skip/FF, repeat/rewind, and all/individual erase.

5 out of 5 stars Not as bad as some say........2007-04-28

I got this phone back in 2001, and the only trouble after roughly six years is that I need a new battery. It is a bit worn looking though, but that's to be expected for the length of time I've had it. I have NOT been gentle with this phone, and it still works, which says a lot about the product.

        1 out of 5 stars Out-Of-Range and Out-Of-Patience.......2005-09-19

I too have fallen victim of the infamous "out of range" problem. I paid the extra bucks for this crummy thing because I didn't want the hassle of an inferior phone. It just goes to show - you don't always get what you pay for. In addition to this complaint, my other pet peeves about this phone are: 1) the fake silver coating rubs off the handset turning the once metalic-looking object into an wornout-looking piece of garbage with spots of cheap-looking plastic showing through; 2) the display screen gets all greasy from being pressed against your face, forcing you to wipe it off before/after every use; 3) the rubber protective strip below the ear piece rubs off on every surface you place it down on, producing black scuff marks all over the house.

Needless to say, my next phone will not be Panasonic.

4 out of 5 stars THE WAY TO SOLVE ERRORS!!!EVERYBODY LISTEN UP!!!.......2005-02-06

I am a boy from CHINA!!!Many KX-TG2570S were exported from US as rubbishes and imported as treasures! EVERYONE here claims that the phone has "OUT OF RANGE" errors. But do you have your own way to solve it? You just send them back to Panasonic; you never want to solve this problem use some simple tips and your talented brains!!!I am a computer science major. While I programming, i always making many bugs, when the error first occuerd with me, i thought this error was also a bug and can be solved in a simple way, below:
STEP 1:Pour a cup of coffee and find a nice chair!
STEP 2:Getting your cordless phone in front of you!
STEP 3:Try several times by putting the handset back to the main and take it back, open the on/off button on the handset, make sure the display is "TALK";(This step is important, you must be patient to get the last result:the dailing TONE and the "TALK" message)
STEP 4:When STEP 3 was done, it is OK when you press on/off button on the handset without put it back to the main unit, this is what the bug begin, see STEP 5:
STEP 5:IF you put the handset back to the main with the handset in status:"off", when you take the handset next time, the error will occur in a high possibility(too high to be used), but if YOU PUT THE HANDSET BACK TO THE MAIN WITHOUT TURING THE HANDSET POWER OFF, THE ERROR WILL NEVER OCCURS(JUST THINK THE HANDSET DO NOT HAVE A ON/OFF SWITCH ADD PUT IT BACK IMMEDIATELY AFTER A CALLING)!!!BELIEVE IN ME!!!
        STEP 6:Enjoy your new-birth phone and enjoy your coffee;
STEP 7:If this help U, mail me gio923@msn.com to thank me; hope your success!

        1 out of 5 stars bad phone.......2004-09-20

I came online to amazon.com to search for a new better phone and came accross this one. I already have it and it is the worst phone i have ever had. i've had it for about almost three years and i shouldn't have even kept it that long. The battery life is EXTREMELY short. i talk on the phone a lot and i cut almost all of my conversations short beacause the phone needs to be charged. BUYERS BEWARE!!!

4 out of 5 stars Not as bad as everyone claims.......2004-09-08

I've had this phone for 4 years and I have just now started having the 'Out of Range' error. Yeah, it's definitely obnoxious, but I managed to get 4 years of use out of the unit before it croaked. Up until now it's been an excellent cordless phone. The range is fantastic, the handset is very durable (it's been dropped probably hundreds of times), the caller ID and speakerphone features work as advertised and I never experienced any interference from other cordless phones or other wireless hardware. I'm going to look into getting my unit repaired but if that turns out to be more hassle than it's worth I will definitely be purchasing another Panasonic product as a replacement.

        Amazon.com Review

The Panasonic KXTG2550 cordless phone provides all you need to get the most from subscription telephone services such as caller ID and voice mail. Its twin-band transmission gives you virtually interference-free conversation at an incredible range.

Sturdy construction and rubberized trim protect this nicely designed unit against everyday wear and tear and accidental splashes. The backlit LCD is easy to read, and the keypad is intuitive. A large navigator key controls most of the functions, while the LCD displays your options.

Basic features include memory dialing, redial, and a handset locator. Although the navigator key serves as four buttons in one, it requires you to work with other buttons when programming. For example, to store a number in memory, press the function button to activate the navigator key, scroll to "program," scroll to "save directory," enter a name, and finally enter the phone number. In addition, you press the OK button in between each of these steps. Dialing a stored number, however, is not as involved, and the phone's directory stores up to 30 names listed alphabetically. Redial is also accessed through the function and navigator buttons. The handset locator is a large button conveniently located on the base.

If you subscribe to caller ID with call waiting or voice mail, the KXTG2550 provides easy access to these services. The caller ID indicator will flash and the LCD displays the caller's name, number, time, and date. The LCD allows you to see new caller information even while you're on another call. You can store up to 50 numbers in the caller list. Caller ID functions can be accessed using the navigator key. Call waiting is simply accessed by pressing the flash button. If you receive voice mail, the LCD and an indicator on the base will alert you. To get your messages, simply press the voice mail button on the handset. We were most impressed with the long range and sound clarity of the KXTG2550. With its dual-antenna system, one for transmitting and one for receiving, your conversations will be virtually static-free. We took the handset outside, approximately 1,000 feet from the base, before detecting any interference. The phone performed just as well inside behind walls, up stairs, and near electronic equipment. --Emily Bakko

        Amazon.com Product Description

The KX-TG2550B is one of Panasonic's GigaRange Extreme phones. Unique twin-band transmission, coupled with rugged design, allows you to take your conversations outdoors. It also boasts caller ID/call waiting with a 50-call history and a 30-station phone directory and dialer.

Panasonic has also included a 2.5-millimeter headset jack and belt clip for hands-free operation. With an optional headset connected to this phone, you're free to engage in activities that require the use of two hands. And when you're not using your 2.4 GHz phone, its small design enables you to simply slip it into your pocket.

Panasonic 2.4 GHz GigaRange Extreme cordless phones use spread spectrum technology (SST) in both the 2.4 GHz and 900 MHz bands. SST brings an important benefit to the user: enhanced range. Cordless phones with SST have greater effective output power than regular cordless phones because they transmit over the entire bandwidth, constantly changing frequency. This increased power dramatically boosts range. These cordless phones use two different frequencies: 2.4 GHz on the base and 900 MHz on the handset. This means that interference between these signals is minimized, thereby enhancing clarity and boosting range. Proprietary circuitry also helps these phones resist interference from other devices, such as microwave ovens, that share similar bands.

The KX-TG2550B also boasts a voice mail message-waiting indicator (FSK and stutter compatible), headset jack, belt clip, a backlit three-line LCD display on the handset, a fast seven-hour battery charging system, up to 14-day standby battery life, and up to eight hours of talk time on the NiMH battery.

5 out of 5 stars this is it!.......2007-06-20

Never had- or have seen - any better wireless. Just name the field: autonomy? range? durability? quality of materials? sound quality? ergonomy?
Paid quite a lot when I got it 5 years ago (for roughly 200 Euro) but it was well worth it! And we're talking heavy (though home) use: up to 2 hours talking every day. Changed the battery pack just last year, after some 200-250 recharges (once a... WEEK!!!)- and that, because it wasn't lasting as long as I got used to.

2 out of 5 stars Not My Ideal Phone - It Gets the Job Done.......2003-11-13

I have had this phone since October 1999. I purchased it for several reasons:

        1) It has the newfangled 2.4 GHz Spread Spectrum Technology

        2) It is cordless and headset compatible

        3) It has caller ID, caller ID with call waiting capabilities

        4) It did not have an answering system

        5) It worked with the voicemail I have from the phone company

At the time, it satisfied all of my needs perfectly.

Overall, the sound quality is acceptable. The battery doesn't last as long as it did when I bought it, but that is to be expected. I thought, though I was mistaken, that I could add an additional handset to the base system. Right now, I need more phones in my home. That I cannot add additional handsets is a drawback.

The headset option is key for me because I ruined my neck at work from long hours on the phone. I can only talk on the phone with a headset or I get a giant neck ache. This phone works well with a headset and allows me to do lots of activities while on the phone.

Unfortunately and ironically, the biggest advantage of this phone is also its worst feature. Once you have used the headset, the phone cannot be used in non-headset mode. After removing the headset, I cannot get a dial tone on the handset when I press talk. This is frustrating/annoying for people who want to use the phone without the headset.

I called Panasonic to find out how to fix this problem and the representative said it happened because I was not using a Panasonic headset. I bought one, but the problem was not eliminated.

By chance, I discovered that the phone could be restored to non-headset mode if the headset was removed, the handset was placed on the base, the phone was set to auto-pick up and the handset was picked up while receiving an outside call. I used the Panasonic headset after the phone was "reset" like this and the problem still existed.

I remain frustrated because I haven't been able to find my "secret fantasy" cordless phone. This phone meets part of the criteria, but falls miserably short.

        1 out of 5 stars Highly Disappointed!.......2002-12-09

Like other reviewers below--I found this phone to be a major disappointment. At first it was a great phone(and should have been for the price tag!)--but after about a year I started getting horrible static, so bad that I'd have to change phones in mid-conversation. I wouldn't recommend this phone to anyone.

        2 out of 5 stars Horrible.......2002-05-22

I bought this phone about 1 yr ago, it was very expensive and never quite worked right. I can be standing next to the charger and it will tell me it is out of range, it does not allow you to answer calls or anything when it does this. Also when I dial numbers it gets all confused and makes these weird noises and I have to hang up and keep trying until I finally get it to dial correctly. I would not recommend any Panasonic phones after using this one. Right now I am in the market for a new phone and I am probably going with a V-Tech. I know a few people who have these and love them.

1 out of 5 stars Disappointed and discouraged...........2002-02-17

I must say that I even cringe to give this phone even one star. I have had my phone one year as of December. The beginning of December, my problems started. I am another victim of the "out of range" and incredible static problems. I can have the phone 1 inch from the base and still have it read "out of range". As a matter of fact, I had to switch to another phone during my phone call to customer service because this Panasonic kept making a zapping sound in my ear and they were unable to hear me on the other end! They extended my warranty so that I could contact a local service center. I am in a Chicago suburb, yet the closest service center is 1 1/2 hrs away! Try calling there....nobody ever answers, all lines busy, ..the message says to leave a voice mail, only to then say that the mailbox is full. What a waste. I can't believe this item hasn't been recalled. :(

        Product Description

The Uniden cordless phones are designed and engineered to exacting standards for reliability, long life, and outstanding performance. Digital Spread Spectrum Technology utilizes a "wider frequency band" vs. a "single narrow band" used in standard digital transmissions. The 2.4 GHz frequency range was recently released to commercial communications. Coupled with multi-channel autoscan feature it provides secure conversation with the clarity of digital sound, extended range, and reduced interference.

        Amazon.com Product Description

Screen your calls and take advantage of power of 2.4 GHz technology at the same time with the Uniden TRU246 cordless phone. In the world ofcordless phones, higher is better when it comes to frequency. With 2.4 GHzdigital spread spectrum transmission, the Uniden TRU246 offers superiorpower, security, and clarity.

Forget about the short-range, static-plagued cordless phones of the past.Basically a low-powered FM radio transmitter/receiver, cordless phonestoday use higher frequencies with shorter wavelengths so radio wavesencounter less interference. In 1998, the FCC opened up the FM range above2.4 GHz to cordless phones. This frequency is far above the rangeaccessible to most scanners, and gives phones like the Uniden TRU246 arange of up to 150 feet indoors.

In addition to 2.4 GHz power, the TRU246 offers digital spread spectrum(DSS) technology for security and greater sound clarity. Based in part on aconcept invented by 1940s screen actress Hedy Lamarr, spread spectrumtransmission switches rapidly from frequency to frequency at random. A DSSsignal needs less power and encounters less interference.

A cordless phone like the Uniden TRU246 is even more useful with caller IDand call waiting/caller ID. Order this service through your local phonecompany, and the phone allows you screen calls even as you talk on thephone. When someone calls, caller ID allows you to view the caller's nameand number on the LCD display before you pick up the phone. The caller-IDmemory holds up to 50 names and numbers. Caller ID/call waiting allows youto view call information on an incoming call while you're on anothercall.

With the Uniden TRU246, you can program up to 20 numbers into the memorydial, similar to a speed dial, for instant access. The AutoTalk featurelets you answer a call just by picking up the handset--no need to fumblefor the "talk" button. Hang up simply by placing the handset in the basewith the AutoStandby feature.

The phone handset's batteries last for up to six hours of talk time and 10days on standby. The Uniden TRU246 comes with a rechargeable battery pack,AC adapter for the base unit, wall mount, and belt clip.

2 out of 5 stars Good until the buttons stopped working:.......2003-08-20

I was pretty happy with the phone until, shortly after a year, the buttons became increasingly harder to push. I've contacted Uniden and they said they would only fix it for free if it was a "known problem." Not surprisingly, they said this was not such a case. Now what I want to know is if anyone else here on Amazon has had this same problem? If so, let's make it "known" so that Uniden will either fix it for free or give us a replacement. Though at this point, I'd rather have my money back than rely on their products and Customer Service again.

        5 out of 5 stars TRU246--An Update.......2003-01-21

It's been two years since my first review of my cell phone...it's still going strong on the original battery! I use a Jensen headset and an over-the-ear kind for hands-free talking. When watching tv with a friend from another state by phone (don't ask), I do notice the phone beeps "low battery" after four hours. This is a little disconcerting, especially if you're watching figure skating or an award show! However, it's not bad service for a phone I've had as long as this one. I suppose the solution there is buy another cordless for your spare jack and pick it up when the beeping starts.

I'm sold on cordless phones, still don't understand why people want to treat them as if they were wireless. Corded phones aren't and never will be. I believe good phones DO cost over $.. unless you buy them used. I also don't believe there is any one phone that will satisfy everybody's needs. My phone has never not work, keypad perfect, reception perfect.

I will say that I don't like the style of the newer model Unidens, so I can't say what my second phone will be. If they still made the 246 or 248, I'd definitely buy it.

1 out of 5 stars Buttons stop working after a while!.......2002-12-03

I loved the phone when I first received it. However, after around 4 months the buttons stopped working. I basically need to jam my finger about an inch into the phone in order to dial a number. It sounds like a common problem with this phone. I suggest staying away from it.

        5 out of 5 stars Stop here!.......2001-09-06

If anyone is looking for a phone, look no further. This is the best phone I ever had! {and I've had many] The clarity can't be beat. I highly recommend this. You won't be disappointed.

The EXR 2480 provides Digital Spread Spectrum technology that provides the best defense against unwanted interference and provides superior voice communication security; 50 Number Caller ID memory; a digital answering system with 15 minutes of recording time; a time / day stamp, and remote operation. Amazon.com Product Description

The Uniden EXR2480 combines a digital cordless phone with a digital answering system and caller ID--all in one machine. While many cordless phones receive and transmit signals in 900 MHz bandwidth, and others provide a combination of 2.4 GHz in the base and 900 MHz in the handset, this phone transmits at 2.4 GHz in both the base and the handset, offering eight times the range of a 900 MHz telephone and better performance than a combination telephone. In addition to a greater range, the Uniden EXR2480 with its digital spread technology offers clearer sound with superior privacy and virtually no echo.

Enjoy the hands-free convenience of a speakerphone and intercom plus convenient caller ID on the handset. The handset's keys are backlit for night dialing. The answering machine requires no tapes, as it uses a digital recording system. It can record up to 15 minutes of messages, stamps messages with the time and date, and allows access to messages from a remote location.

Other features include volume control, wall mount, 50-number caller ID memory, 10-number memory dialing, 20-channel AutoScan, AutoTalk, AutoStandby, memo recording, and a page/intercom feature. The Uniden EXR2480 is headset compatible (headset not included) and includes a phone line cord, a battery pack, and an AC adapter.

4 out of 5 stars Incredible Clarity and Range.......2003-12-11

This phone is amazing! I really didn't need an answering machine, but I picked up this cordless gem for $50 (refurbished), and I'm very happy with it.

I've had the phone for a week now, and I take it with me when I'm walking the dog. The calls are clear with no breakup. I have tested this phone and have talked on it from almost a block away. I experienced problems when the microwave is on and I'm in the same room, but so what? All I had to do was move about 12 feet away to stop the static.

The only reason that I'm not giving it 5 stars is that it's a bit difficult to program the speed dial numbers - mainly because I'm trying to read the instructions while pushing the buttons - after a minute or so, if you don't get the info entered quickly enough, you have to start over again. But that's a small complaint.

I have no comments on the answering machine - I am using the phone over the Internet (Vonage) - so all my unanswered calls go to a voice mailbox.

In short, if you want a great phone and can pick this one up refurbished, I suggest doing so. Obviously, I can't comment yet on durability or long term reliabilty yet, but I felt stongly enough about my initial experience with this phone to write this review.

have had for quite some time. no problems. love the handset. you can actually feel the weight. i'm sick of these phones that the handset feels like you're using a kids toy.

2 out of 5 stars Talk button keeps breaking.......2002-02-24

The phone came with a one year warrenty. At 13 months, the talk button on the handset broke. We could not make a call or answer a call using the handset. Called Uniden, but never could get through to customer service. Finally, we bought a replacement handset through Uniden... The handset had a 3 month warrenty. In the 4th month, the talk button on the new handset broke. We now have a fully functioning base unit and two handsets that don't work. This Uniden is heading toward the trash. My big question now is do I give any more of my $$ to Uniden. The reception on the unit was great. Very clear, but considering the cost of the phone, then adding [the money] for the replacement handset, I spent [a lot of money] to use a phone for 15 months !!

1 out of 5 stars Not happy with this product.......2001-11-20

I purchased this phone/answering machine about 18 months ago. The sound quality is poor on the answering machine. I frequently have to replay messages to understand what the caller is saying. The number keys on the handset are placed in such a way that I often inadvertently hit them with my chin or mouth when talking on the phone. This produces that annoying beep in the ear of the person on the other end of the call. I'm also not impressed by the clarity of the sound on the phone. Recently, the number 7 button is sticking. Our area code begins with a 7, so it's been quite annoying. I called the repair area and it will cost me (dollar amount)to have it repaired. No thanks, I'll take my $(...)and buy a Sony. No more Unidens for me. To get one final complaint in on this product, the customer service reps were not very knowledgeable and not very friendly.
