I've owned this piece of garbage for a year now, and the only way to keep myself from wasting time trying to get it to work was to simply throw it in the trash.
Today I needed to print a single page, with a simple color picture on it and some basic text. As usual the text smeared (even after following ALL of the "Help" and "Suggestion" tips from the manual AND the HP website) which is acceptable, but the picture had lines through it and the colors were insane. I followed the instructions on the HP website to try and calibrate the colors - to no avail. I then tried to print out a test page, and the feed mechanism wasn't working, again. I spent an hour reading from the HP website about how to diagnose and perhaps fix the paper feed mechanism since that has NEVER really worked right. I figured "enough is enough", and I simply picked up the HP-PSC 1510 and dropped it into the trash can - the single satisfying experience I've had to date with this printer.
- Feed mechanism errors: you have to TRICK the printer into actually accepting paper, and it usually DRAGS paper in at a weird angle - producing very inconsistent prints. If you are trying to print a report, every page will appear to have different margins.
- Smearing of ink on final prints: no matter what quality setting I use or what program I use to print (including the most up-to-date HP printing software), text smears - sometimes so bad that it hurts your eyes to read more than a page of anything printed by the HP-PSC 1510.
- Build quality is worse than that of dollar store plastic toy: while tinkering with the HP-PSC 1510 (trying to get the feed mechanism to work) I had a good look at the printer, and over all I'd be generous to call the build quality "shabby".
- Photos were "decent": this is the only area where the printer wasn't HORRIBLE. The feed mechanism didn't seem to have a problem accepting glossy photo paper, and the prints weren't bad, but weren't good. Ink blotted and discoloration was present after an hour, but that was perhaps one out of five photographs printed by the HP-PSC 1510 using HP software.
I own an HP laptop and haven't had any issues with it so far, in fact it's one of the best laptops I've worked with so far (dollar for dollar) - which makes me wonder if they put together their laptops and printers in different manufacturing plants, or even different countries. I can't be bothered to waste my time finding out, but I'm amazed at the vast difference in build quality between the two.
Suffice to say I'll NEVER be buying an HP printer again, and I advise anyone who is looking for a new printer to buy anything except HP.

This is my first and last experience with HP printers. I called to complain and was offered a replacement for $135. No, thanks. It's back to reliable Canons for me.

1) it is completely unreliable, jamming all the time and picking up too many sheets of paper.
2) it prints out a test page every time you turn it on, unless (as hp told me), you follow a ridiculous procedure every time you turn it on or refill a cartridge.
3) when it does work it uses a lot of ink, and is expensive to replace.
but, hp help desk is friendly, i am always chatting to them, almost on first name basis.
Caveat emptor.
