Good quality, easy to use scanner.......2006-12-19

As with other HP products, the quality of the product is excellent as well as the quality of the scanned documents. I used it mostly for photos taking advantage of the dedicated, unique photo door which holds a stack of 12 photos for easy, one-by-one scanning at 2400 dpi optical resolution and 48-bit color. In addition to scanning photos, it also scans all standard types of 35 mm slides up to 3.2 mm thick: Types A, SB, and LKM as well as 2 x negative strips with a maximum of 2 frames per strip. Additionally, it scans documents, larger photos, and 3-D objects and serves as a copier by printing scans as copies to your printer.

GREAT GIFT.......2007-01-10

I BOUGHT THIS AS A GIFT FOR MY HUSBAND, WHO IS HARD TO BUY FOR AND HE REALLY LIKES IT SO I WOULD DEFINETELY BUY IT AGAIN. I USE IT AS WELL. IT HAS REALLY COME IN HANDY MANY TIMES. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

hp has consistantly had the worst software ever..........2006-04-06

...and this scanners software is no exception. I do graphic design for a print shop and I needed to replace my ancient and worn out epson expression 800. The specs for the ScanJet 4070 looked good so i gave it a shot.

dont get me wrong, the scan quality is ok, but this thing is SOOOO SLOW!! The first scan of the day every day takes about 3 or 4 minutes just for the scanner to warm up! then it takes another couple minutes to actually scan the art (longer for higher res scans). When you're trying to manage about 7 or 8 jobs at once and customers want their prints and proofs right away, that is COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE!! HP wont do anything about it either because they're so huge and make so much money, the DONT CARE about what we think. I've called and complained more than once. But the speed of the scanner isnt even the worst part...

The software is crap. It makes its own settings and refuses to save mine. The interface is NOT intuitive, i cant get the descreen option to work no matter what. Dont even think of uninstalling and reinstalling, the software glitches up even more, and if youre lucky it wont crash your pc every time you turn it on. check their site, most of their products have all sorts of uninstall patches, etc. can you believe their scanner software is 300 megs!??!? 300 MEGABYTES FOR SCANNER SOFTWARE?? ALL OF PHOTOSHOP ISNT EVEN 300 MEGS!! and guess what? theres no 3rd party software for the scanner... great.

the most annoying thing to me personally is that the scanner decides what color corrections it wants to make to the image. in the options i set it to NOT correct anything, but it still does anyway. i have to load the software (1 - 2 minutes) wait for warm up (3-4 minutes) let it do its preview scan, which it does automatically even if you dont want it to (1 -2 minutes), change all the settings to what i WANT them to be at (another 30 seconds or so) then scan (usually 2-3 minutes). so all in all it takes about 8-10 minutes to scan what i can scan from my cheap little canon bearpaw in about 2 minutes or less.

if this story isnt enough to deter you from buying this scanner, than you deserve the trouble it gets you. also, hp PLEASE get some decent programmers!!!!

If you are looking for a high quality piece of junk look no furthur. Besides having the worst software I've seen, when it does work it's dreadfully slow (not scanning, just warming up to scan.)
Couple that with a terrible 90 day warranty and poor tech support (sorry HP, I just don't speak Hindu) this must be one of the worse computer items I have ever purchased.
This will be the last HP product that I purchase, next scanner will be a epson, visioneer, canon, anything but a HP !

NO! New HP Image Pro and Image Zone Software for Mac OS 10.4 (Tiger) is NOT great!.......2006-01-06

I gave this software (really the scanner is nothing without the software) 5/5 rating last time based on the good results I got scanning photos. I should have waited until I scanned documents and used the Scan Pro (more like amateur) software a lot more.

The software keeps crashing and the buttons on the front dont work anymore - even thought there is a daemon from HP that eats away 6% of the CPU load all the time.

A document scan does not work more than once, the next time it crashes. Reinstall does not help. The preferences for the software is crazy - and hidden in 2-3 different apps. There is no way to directly scan into PDF - you scan as TIFF in PReview and then use save as to PDF.

I am returning this scanner next week - and am never going to buy a HP scanner again! Stay away from this product.

The Software (downloadable from HP.com) installs and works wonderfiully. All the scanner features are supported from within the OS and there is a plug-in for Photoshop (which can be used for GraphicConverter and other apps also). Just download it and try it (its a big download though >100MB)

The software is stable and the 4070 scanner is FAST enough for my needs - a 4x6 photo scan at 300dpi took less than 10 seconds; a 8x10 grayscale document took less than 5 seconds - after preview.

The only feature I would have liked it for a scan-to-folder with automatic image file naming - this is available for the Canon Scanners (CanoScan app).

Dont believe all the misinformation - there is GOOD scanning software for the Mac and sometimes it works much better than the Windows one which by reading the Windows reviews here seems to be the case. Thanks HP!

The worst software EVER!!!.......2005-12-13

The Scanjet 4070 comes with the "HP Image Zone" software. For anyone that knows anything about scanning / image editing, this software is terrible. It does not allow you to do anything! Not only is it the worst imaging software I have EVER used, but when i researched it online, I found out that HP will not release the codes of the scanner to 3rd party developers, so I can't even use other software. HP makes decent hardware, but their software makes me want to throw the decent hardware out the window!!!
