A high-performance dedicated film scanner from Nikon, the CoolScan V ED offers high-quality scanning of 35mm slides, 35mm film strips, APS film (with optional IX240 film adapter), and prepared slides (with optional medical slide holder). The Scanner-Nikkor ED glass lens offers a 4,000 dpi optical resolution, while the 3,964-pixel linear CCD image sensor and 14-bit A/D input (8-/16-bit output) provide true-to-life, brilliant results.

Nikon's own LED illumination technology ensures accurate color with no warm-up time or risk of heat damage. Scan times are as fast as 38 seconds including image transfer to display, and as fast as 14 seconds in preview mode. Automatic color/contrast compensation helps you achieve accurate results, while the ICE4 advanced digital image correction suite of technologies helps to restore old slides to their original glory. Additionally, the included Nikon Scan 4 software provides a comprehensive and easy-to-use interface for managing your scans.

Nikon Film Scanner - Great Product.......2007-06-18

Love It! While not a easy as people will make you believe, it is a great product to turn old Slides and Film Strips into digital images. Beware it is time consuming...can take 1 to 5 minutes to make a slide into an image, but it is great to share with family when done. A little pricy, but if you have old slides/film, it is recommonded for the software that corrects a lot of problems.

Nikon CoolScan V ED Film Scanner.......2007-05-20

This scanner surpasses my expectations. While somewhat complex to use, it produces amazing results from slides that are decades old. I am fully satisfied with this scanner, which meets my need to scan thousands of slides from more than 40 years of photography!

Poor Support.......2007-04-11

My new Nikon Coolscan V ED worked very well for the first six hours after I put it in use. Then the film strip adapter which is needed for most of its operations broke down. I shipped it overnight and asked for a replacement under the one year warranty. They have had it in their shop for the last three weeks, but can give me no estimate of when they might be able to ship me a replacement. I would pay the another $160 for a new film adapter if I could be sure that it too would not be likely to break down. Not my smartest purchase.

Excellant buy.......2007-03-31

I love my Nikon CoolScan V. It set up just great and started cranking out excellent scans right away. I think they must of fixed the problem with scanning Kodachrome in the Nikon Scan software because most my scans are Kodachrome dating back to the late sixties. There are a few inconvenient software items but nothing you can't deal with. Kodachrome slides can't use the dust and scratch eliminator. For the price there is nothing as good as the Nikon CoolScan V. I am running the scanner on a PC with Windows XP Pro.

Excellent scans, a tad too slow.......2007-03-30

I used this scanner for about 150 frames of 35mm and 6 or so slides. The scan times are a bit too long, but, the results are worth the wait. The Digital ICE 4 suite of apps does a remarkable job of elminating scratches and worn out spots. It has the slide & 35mm film mount adapters included, comes with Nikon Scan, Nikon View and manuals. Nikon Scan could be more intuitive, but like all Nikon menus (including their cameras), they think differently than I do at least, so it took me a while to figure out all the different options. The software found it slightly hard to remember my settings - it was a bit complicated for a scanner, but it is a near-professional scanner, so well .. not much room to complain. On the whole, this scanner is worth the trouble - holds value well, and gives you excellent scans.
