The ScanMaker i800 flatbed scanner comes fully loaded with the PictuRescue total photo and film restoration system, featuring DIGITAL ICE to fix damaged photos and film, plus automatic color restoration through ColoRescue to revive faded colors to their original brilliance. Other significant features include 4,800 dpi resolution, a scanning area of 8.5" x 14," and USB and Firewire interfaces.

Film holders lock into place on scan bed to ensure perfect film alignment and consistent scans, and assist the scanner in automatically cropping your scan frame by detecting the edges of your film. Spring-actuated tension grips hold film perfectly flat, ensuring consistent scan results. Film holders accommodate 35mm slides, 35mm filmstrips, 4"x5" film, and medium format film up to 6 x 17-cm panoramic.

A comprehensive software package is provided, which includes Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.0 and a LAN Wizard which allows you to share the scanner over a network. Microtek includes a one-year warranty covering parts and service.

dirty, broken, terrible customer service.......2007-06-10

Unit came in with dirty scanner glass, and scanned with off color along one side. Shortly after install, unit failed to work. New drivers didn't help, nor did their customer service: no phone calls, only email, and no response after two weeks! Fortunately I was able to send the unit back and get a refund. Buy HP, not Microtek!!!

I wonder about reliability.......2007-05-13

I bought this scanner recently and a few days into the use, it stopped working. I tried everything to make it work. Suddenly, like magic...it started to work again. I don't know if this is isolated or widespread.

Lousy printed instructions.......2007-03-25

I have yet to get this scanner working. Granted I have not spent more than a day working on it but it is not intuitive. I have e-mailed Microtek with several questions (you cannot contact them any other way) and have received a response advising me to look at several downloads on their website. The downloads are the same instructions included in the box with the scanner when purchased. At the moment all I want to do is to use the scanner as a copier. There don't seem to be any instructions for that process, only for scanning, and those aren't great. At this point, I'm very disappointed in my purchase.

Awesome scanner.......2007-03-20

This is an excellent scanner -- works like a charm. The only caution I have is to put the most basic of the packaged software in as it is the only one that allows the front buttons on it to operate. It's also freakin' HUGE! Does 8x14 paper, and up to 8x10 transparency scans -- excellent quality!

high rez scanner top noch.......2006-08-04

this scanner has a multipass set up that make great scans
but slows down the scanning by half for each pass
it max out at 16 lines and i have had 1 scan take a hour to do but it was a great scan

Microtek Flatbed Scanners.......2006-08-01

Please Note: I purchased a somewhat different model - 6100 Pro - over 1 year ago. I was unhappy with the purchase from the onset and have subsequently purchased a Canon 8400F ... a great scanner.

The Microtek took very good scans from photos and film (35 mm slides). However, it rarely worked. It failed to recognize my computer and when I finally achieved a good scan it just stopped. Eventually, I convinced Microtek to replace the scanner however, the same problem recurred. I tossed the Microtek and bought a Canon.

I could not recommend Microtek for a mid level flatbed scanner. In addition their customer technical service department is courteous, but they are almost impossible to contact.

If you want a flatbed scanner in the $250 to $550 range you should look elsewhere.
