1 out of 5 stars Sounds like a cheap plastic toy.......2007-06-20

I have these DVD's and I can tell you that they will not be a huge part of my baby's development. I received them as a gift from someone that thinks that all you need to do is plunk your child in front of a TV all day without giving the baby any attention. You can see why these DVD's are popular at Day Care Centers or what I like to call, "Concentration camps for baby's with lazy parents", because they know that they can sit their kid/baby in front of the TV and let them turn into a thoughtless zombie while they listen to Baby Einstein totally ruin classics by Bach and DeBussy by playing the music with very cheap midi keyboards. I can get better quality music by whistling Dixie with a mouth-full of saltine crackers.

Also, it has been proven that classical music has nothing to do with the cognitive development of young people. Now, teach them how to play piano or violin and you have yourself an actual YOUNG EINSTEIN, but listening to this kind of music does nothing for the development of the brain. It is just for lazy parents that can't sit down with their kids and play with them or read them a book.

4 out of 5 stars would make you sleepy.........2007-06-15

its a good product with very fine music and my toddler realizes that it is sleep time, if I play it. he goes to bed and sleeps after a couple songs. I have trouble in some songs are some months.. dont know why.

4 out of 5 stars Kid's Music.......2007-06-08

I bought this CD for my grandniece, but after listening to it, I determined that no one would ever play this for her except me. I would have kept it for myself but I have the grown-up versions of each of the classical masterpieces on this CD. So, I ended up returning it for a full refund. If you want your kids to be exposed to classicl music, it's a great buy. But if you don't think they will get to listen to it, don't waste your time.

Baby Einstein: Lullaby Classics

1 out of 5 stars Not soothing.......2007-06-07

These synthesizer versions of classical songs get really old, really fast. Worse yet, the songs are sometimes not soothing at all, especially the very first song. The song seems to get particularly loud and uptempo, which is precisely what you don't expect in a lullaby. Please listen to the sample of the first song at least before you buy.

4 out of 5 stars Great for bedtime, but wish it were a real piano.......2007-06-01

This CD worked great to put my daughter to sleep while I rocked her in my arms, and I enjoyed the choices of songs and the arrangements. However, I would have preferred that real instruments were used.

There are worse things in life than making your acting debut on the much ballyhooed season finale of Ally McBeal, though teen operatic baritone Josh Groban doesn't seem destined to encounter them anytime soon. As the awkward high school student-client who asks the typically romance-jinxed Ally to his senior prom, Groban performed this debut album's "You're Still You" (adapted from film-composing legend Ennio Morricone's Academy Award-nominated score for Malèna, with lyrics by Linda Thompson) as a heart-tugging, literal showstopper. The young phenom was just 17 when veteran producer-writer David Foster tapped him to fill in for Andrea Bocelli at rehearsals for the 1999 Grammys, where Groban found himself suddenly dueting with Celine Dion.

Indeed, such were his fortunes that the young Foster protégé was forced to drop out of Carnegie Mellon when professional commitments--including this record--interfered. And if this collection tends to hew sometimes uncomfortably close to Foster's own MOR sonic instincts, the material offers enough challenges to display Groban's talent and the potential of his warm, mature voice: a lyrical take on another Morricone classic, "Cinema Paradiso"; melancholy readings of Don McLean's "Starry, Starry Night" and Albert Hammond's "Alejate"; masterfully dramatic takes of the Neapolitan "Alla Luca Del Sole" and "Canto Alla Vita," the latter featuring the Corrs. Many of Groban's performances here, including a neo prog-rock-opera take on Bach's "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring" (with Lili Haydn), seem both bigger and bolder than their precious musical frameworks, a telling hint that Grand Opera can't be far from his grasp. As said earlier, there are worse things in life. --Jerry McCulley

What a voice, what an artist, what a man.
Underestimated in Europe. His concert on 21 May 2007 in Amsterdam was superb!

5 out of 5 stars Oh my Gosh, Josh!.......2007-07-03

I love Josh Groban's music! It is romantic, mellow and beautiful :)
This CD has two songs on it that are very unusual. I believe both are from Cirque de Soleil, and draw you into the music--warning-- While driving, do not close your eyes!

5 out of 5 stars a true star.......2007-06-24

First saw and heard Josh on the Tv and was blown away by his talent! it was about a year later that I found out who he was and bought the first album and can honestly say that I have never tired of his work. Every song is magical and he is truely wonderful. Have since purchased all his work and have also had the priviledge of seeing him live in concert in Glasgow/Scotland and was amazed. such a talented young man with a truely magical voice

5 out of 5 stars Floodgates of the Heart.......2007-06-05

This CD played almost constantly in my wife's car for several years. Josh Groban's voice is so gentle and can go from gentleness to anthematic, almost operatic, textures. He sings in Italian effortlessly. The orchestration on "Cinema Paradiso" is enthralling with its emotional reach, powerful even with lyrics beyond my understanding. "To Where You Are" is one of the most gorgeous songs. Knowing how it moved my wife in the years before breast cancer proved stronger than her body, it touches me now, "Fly me up to where you are beyond the distant star I wish upon tonight to see you smile, if only for awhile to know you're there; a breath a ways to where you are." The song opens the floodgates of my heart. The Corrs were on Groban's 143 label when this release came out in 2001 and join him on the upbeat "Canto Alla Vita." Groban makes an interesting selection with Don McLean's "Vincent," polishing the melody to a fine sheen in ways that surpassed the original. Listening to Bach's "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring" is like being in a sonic cathedral with Groban's voice matching the grandeur of the music. With Charlotte Church on "The Prayer," Groban concludes the set with the Carole Bayer Sager/David Foster composition that makes one contemplate the eternal, "Lead us to a place, find us with your grace, give us faith so we'll be safe." Groban's first CD enhances with repeated listening by virtue of the depth of musicianship and performance. I listen to it now hearing the music that moved the one I love to tears. It does the same for me. I hope it touches you too. Bravo!

Travis seemingly disappeared after the arguably forgettable 12 Memories but the sound of the Scottish group's daydream-pretty guitar rock endured thanks to Keane, Snow Patrol, and especially Coldplay. More than three years later, Travis is playing catch-up with their fifth studio album, The Boy with No Name. Predictably, it's a well-crafted affair, bursting to life with tunes that celebrate life's minor victories such as "Closer," "Battleships," and "My Eyes." But as a comeback effort it feels flawed, let down by both melodies that disappear into the ether as quickly as they come out of the speakers ("One Night," "3 Times You Lose") and those that clumsily attempt to tweak the formula ("Eyes Wide Open," "Selfish Jean"). --Aidin Vaziri

Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars Say It Ain't So.......2007-07-01

Well, I guess it had to happen eventually. They released four great albums in a row, but the streak is over. I just don't know where this came from. After hearing "Walking In The Sun" from Singles I assumed the Travis dynasty would be prosperous for years to come. I listened to this entire album and almost felt like weeping (not in a good way).

The best word to describe this album is definitely "filler". Think of every Travis song you never really cared for. What did they all have in common? Less than impressive singing? Uneventful choruses? Overall drab music that doesn't stand out? All of these things describe this album in my opinion. I remember listening to previous albums and being greeted by wonderful melodies, catchy rhythms and unforgetable lyrics. This album really lacks a clear direction and passion. You can't honestly tell me Fran is singing these songs from his heart. It sounds like these songs were recorded right after one of his family members died. Most of these songs aren't very well written to begin with, but the ones that are just aren't done justice. I hope these sound better when played live or there's going to be some pissed concert goers.

The one shining light off in the distance is "My Eyes". The sound isn't exactly rehash from previous years, but the energy is definitely more like traditional Travis. I enjoy listening to this song and it actually sounds like they enjoy playing it. I can't say it enough, they just don't deliver on the rest of this album.

I don't think the old Travis is lost and gone forever. This release does feel a little forced but eventually they'll come back with something they really love and you'll love it just the same.

5 out of 5 stars the original travis sound !.......2007-06-29

The smooth fresh sound of travis. It's the original.. It's the travis we know.. And it's the Travis we've been waiting for.. two thumbs up !..

2 out of 5 stars Disappointing.......2007-06-27

Too much of Franny being the minstrel and not enough of the band doing what they do best. After waiting a long time for the follow-up to 12 Memories, The Boy with No Name is a monumental disappointment.

4 out of 5 stars Bold & Beautiful........2007-06-08

It's been a while. Three and a half long years since their last studio album, and almost a decade since they bounced onto the scene with 'Good Feeling'. That debut had them down as the next big Brit-pop band and erstwhile Oasis chums / prodigies, even if the rest of the world hardly noticed their obvious talent. It was only the breakthrough "Why Does It Always Rain On Me" a couple of years later that launched them into the mainstream. Two albums and a collection later they have freed themselves of any expectant hype and can return to making sweet music. They always have done of course, and you really shouldn't be put off that this is a CD that both you and your mum can enjoy. For goodness sake, your Gran may do too.

Be warned that it's an album likely to get under your skin - in a good way that is. Something that seems so unlikely when you play it through for the first time, as it is so perfectly unassuming. Starting off with barely a whimper that is the intro to "3 Times And You Lose" it is the antithesis of going in with all guns blazing. But the track nurdles around with a listless pleasure, and harmonies that waft in the breeze. Uncannily simple, and marvellously crafted without really trying.

The "Lust For Life" beat behind "Selfish Jean" gives it a more obvious pop feel, and somewhat flyaway at that. But it's a worthwhile tempo change that would otherwise leave the album too samey. "Closer" really shouldn't be a such a strong song as it has an almost dreary quality to it, yet still a strong melody and easy hook doesn't let you down. A more complex rhythm makes "Big Chair" beautifully different, and even then you'll be humming along to a song that you feel you've known all your life - on the first listen.

Real credit to taking a leaner approach to production also. "Battleships" is a gem of a song of relationships gone wrong, and it could have turned into a grandiose Keane-esque, multi-layered extravaganza in the wrong hands. Instead it is kept clean and simple, where the words are allowed to shine and not sink. "Eyes Wide Open" has more of a plodding, ballsy quality, squeezed into a tight and very handy 3 minute track.

Travis do have a trademark sound that is "Writing To Reach You" or "Flowers In The Window", which is that easy, relaxed folkiness, often with the odd banjo plucked in for good measure. That soundprint is rarely far from this album, with "My Eyes" the latest amalgam of that style.

"Under the Moonlight" is deceptively good song, and yet another why you wonder why it's not been done before. "Out In Space" has a chillier simplicity, whilst the final "New Amsterdam" is a perfect homage to what is now New York. Talking of a "park that is Central" may be a tad contrived, but the unsophisticated view of what is outwardly so complex, sums up their ethos for the whole album.

Subtlety is often confused with growing old in music, and it's definitely the former here. They bounded around in their "Tied to the 90's" days youth but now have established a real understanding of what they are doing, giving them far more confidence to understate their case.

A certain Scottish music guru famously called Coldplay "bed-wetters", and the same criticism could be wielded at Travis of this CD (if you don't actually listen to it that is), though the Glasgow originated Fran Healey & Co would be more likely to punch such detractors out cold. Besides, it's not true. To deliver simplicity this beautiful is both bold and beautiful.

5 out of 5 stars Back to what they do best!.......2007-06-07

It's been 4 years since the commercial failure and overall letdown of "12 Memories." Since that time, Travis released a "Singles" album, which made some believe that maybe they were planning on calling it quits? Well, I was happily surprised to hear that not only were they sticking around, but Travis returned to work with Nigel Godrich along with Brian Eno to get back to what they do best... create atmospheric, moody songs ripe with gorgeous melodies. Not since 1999's "The Man Who" has the band been so consistent on an album. The first 7 tracks in a row on "The Boy With No Name" are all brilliant. After the majestic "My Eyes", the album meanders off a bit into a few generic-sounding songs, but comes back strong with "Out In Space" and "Colder." They even throw in a hidden track for good measure, and like the outstanding hidden track on The Man Who (Blue Flashing Light), this one, titled "Sailing Away," is also worth the wait of extra silence. As Fran Healy says on their website, they have found their muse once more. From the jangly vibrant pop of Selfish Jean to the bittersweet balladry of Battleships to the swelling romp of Eyes Wide Open, The Boy With No Name will revive the lost Travis fans out there while opening the doors to many new ones. Ironically, Travis has been in the shadow of Coldplay for the past 7 years even though they existed a good 4 years before "Parachutes" was even released, giving Travis the fortune/curse of creating the musical landscape for such bands to spring from. So, I suppose one could say that Travis are to blame for Coldplay, Keane, Snow Patrol, and so forth. But even if that fact does upset you, listen to this album and all will be forgiven.

No Name Face is an auspicious debut from a band seemingly made to rule the airwaves. The insinuating melodies that mark Lifehouse's radio-friendly sound are not unlike those of matchbox twenty or Live in their softer moments. From the first single, "Hanging by a Moment," to the emotive and uplifting "Quasimodo" and the wonderful "Trying" (think Crowded House at their lilting best), Lifehouse are self-possessed and focused. Young singer-songwriter Jason Wade (the son of two ministers) imbues Lifehouse's vibe with a spiritual quality that's never heavy-handed, delivering the goods with the authority of an experienced troubadour. No Name Face may be a first offering from a young band, but it looks to signal the beginning of an estimable career. --Katherine Turman

5 out of 5 stars It's only rock -n- roll to me.......2007-07-16

I love this cd! It isn't rock as hard as creed but not as soft as Barry Manilow. I would consider it moderate rock. Not mellow and Not heavy. Just a good rock cd.

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely spellbound by NO NAME FACE.......2007-04-23

It strikes a distinguished peculiarity how easy it is to forget Lifehouse's No Name Face. This disc helps me relate to the high school that is vastly past me yet pending. The aforementioned disc has some melodies that confront you with a jolt of emotion absent of any sort of devious ploy whatsoever. The vocalist's voice is deep, true and quite earth shattering when need be. The modulation is quite unique. Almost every song displays weeks and years of integrity and passion. The kind of music one does not have to acclimatize to or get unsober to appreciate. In a mood not quite different from your every day mood, this album will guide your thought flow. I love the album cover no less than I love this disc. Now, I'll discuss my favourite songs. Breathing seems to stand out because of it's unquestionable unconditionality in love, Hanging By A Moment was the popular single all 20 somethings still linger to, Sick Cycle Carousel was the vocalist's anthem for his girlfriend who he later married (sounds a bit too happy? Try hearing the song) , Somewhere in Between reminds me of a bridge over water that my city never had while "Everything" is *sigh* inducing in it's listless scope.

"There is in me as there is in you, a morbid belief in Lifehouse."

5 out of 5 stars Soooo Good!.......2007-03-14

This album is packed with awesome songs. In fact, I love this album so much that I bought it a second time when the first CD I had was too scratched to listen too. "No Name Face" is Lifehouse's best work indeed. Unlike other albums, I will always be able to pop this in my cd player anytime and enjoy it just as much as I did when it first was released! It never gets old! If you haven't listened to Lifehouse much, buy this album first! It's the best one they've done!

5 out of 5 stars Good Start.......2007-01-31

So, your thinking, 'Should I or Shouldn't I buy this one?'. You should. Its Lifehouses best work and you'd be a fool not to own it!
'Hanging By A Moment' is a great opener, but not the best song on the album. 'Everything' is the best in my opinion, especially the build up to it, you can really feel the energy these guys put into their music with this song.
From the beginning of the Album to the end, theres not a track you would not want to listen to. I recommend for the new listener to Lifehouse to buy this Album and then buy 'Stanley Climbfall' and 'Lifehouse'. Hopegfully the fourth album coming up will be just as good as the current works.

5 out of 5 stars No Name Face - Lifehouse.......2007-01-09

LOVE IT!!! I could listen to Lifehouse all day and still love them!

4 out of 5 stars barbara better thab barbra.......2007-07-13

Now in her mellow old-wine years, Barbara Cook continues to amaze. She weaves her voice through well=chosen songs with honey-sweetness leaving the growls and bombastics to the "other" barbra.

5 out of 5 stars Perhaps the most exquisite recording of her career.......2007-07-07

Forget the fact that Ms. Cook is celebrating her 80th birthday in October. This recording is breathtaking for its vocal and emotional artistry and integrity, and any student of the vocal art will be blown away by her total mastery of this baker's dozen group of songs. Impossible to pick the highlight; perhaps Sondheim's "No More," or her amazing connection of his "One More Kiss" and "Goodbye for Now" (two songs that have sadly had few recordings). Certainly the final duet with the equally remarkable Kelli O'Hara of "Make Our Garden Grow" from CANDIDE, Ms. Cook's triumph of over 50 years ago, should bring chills and tears to the hardest of souls.

5 out of 5 stars The Beauty of Musicals.......2007-07-05

Barbara Cook wraps her gifted voice around a number of favorites from the world of musicals, everything from Passion to Peter Pan. The arrangements are simple but heartfelt and will stay in your ear long after the CD has stopped playing. A must buy for fans of Barbara Cook or musicals!

5 out of 5 stars The best.......2007-07-05

This is the best Barbara Cook CD in a long time. The choice of material is outstanding and Barbara is in great voice.

5 out of 5 stars She never stops amazing you.......2007-06-14

This most recent CD reveals that Barbara Cook's interpretive powers have only grown: how could you not be moved by "Something's Coming" from West Side Story, with a wonderful combination of Bernstein's upbeat tempo and some lovely, reflective moments. With Sondheim's "No One is Alone" and "No More" from "Into the Woods" and some pieces from "Passion, a little Rogers and Hammerstein and finally ending up with "Make our Garden Grow" from Bernstein's "Candide," fans of Cook's miraculous artistry are in for a never-too-soon fix. Those of you who love musical theatre and don't know this glorious treasure have a huge treat in store. Don't wait. Push that button now!

This tape is played every day in our house at nap time - it is beautiful and wonderful.

5 out of 5 stars Fun.......2007-05-26

I'm not really much in the way of a music expert, but I really enjoyed this cd.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful recording!.......2007-05-20

I purchased this recording for my grandson, who is studying the Vivaldi Violin Concerto in A minor. This is a fortunate time for instrumental music students, as, through the medium of digital sound, they can purchase a CD and hear the music, as played by world-class players.

The CD technology eliminates the old game of "drop the needle!" Wonderful!

I recently purchased a boxed set of the recorded work of classical clarinetist Reginald Kell. It was wonderful to hear that music again! I lost my LPs in a fire, and never thought I could find them again!

I just love CDs! And thank you, Amazon, for giving us a pipeline to such wonderful music!

5 out of 5 stars If all music were so beautiful.......2007-01-12

Four seasons is one of my favorite pieces. With Itzhak Perlman at the helm, this rendition is flawless as one would rightfully expect.

5 out of 5 stars It's all about the violin concertos.......2006-12-05

Everybody knows "The Four Seasons". Spring is one of the best known classical pieces of all times. Perlman's playing is lovely and the music is superb and famous for a reason, but it is my personal opinion that what is truly wonderful here is the small selection of violin concertos.

These concertos are rather well known to those who are knowledgable in classical music or play an instrument (violin, in this case). To the rest of the world they are much less known, and that is a pity. These are wonderful pieces of music, played incredibly with great sound.

Once you get into the smaller, finer details, you also have to notice the great price that this is offered for. With great famous pieces accompanied by some amazing violin concertos (Il Sospetto is my favorite of them all) at a low price, there is no doubt about it; this is a great CD to purchase.

Every track on this CD contains a beautiful melody, many of them easily recognizable, all of them exuding tranquility. "O mio babbino caro" from Puccini's Gianni Schicchi opens the disc, with Bell delicately accompanied by a harp and spinning the long melody with great sensitivity. Bellini's "Casta diva" from Norma lives up to its reputation as the epitome of bel canto in Bell's hands; his violin sings. The middle movement of Mozart's 21st Piano Concerto takes well to the violin, and Debussy's "The Girl with the Flaxen Hair" is played with great warmth and sensuality. It would be easy to turn a recital like this into treacle, but Bell is wise enough to realize that the music is already sweet enough and he plays with great reserve and a minimum of sentimental slides. The light accompaniments always support, with woodwinds prominent but used with grace. This CD, in short, is a beauty: a fine gift, a lovely mood setter. --Robert Levine

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars End of the Day.......2007-06-08

I am a Joshua Bell fan, and this album is the one that I enjoy with my dessert, it calms me at the end of the day, and makes me think of my 6 year old granddaughter's visit. She has to have music on during meals at her home. Usually it is some kid stuff, but I do not have anything like she has at home, so I chose to play Joshua Bell during our dinner. When I placed the dessert before her, she looked up at me and said: "This music is so beautiful, I want to play the violin just like that". What more could I say.
He is inspiring, and she is right. This album is beautiful.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful!.......2007-05-30

I play this for my grandson to nap by. It is so relaxing and wonderful!

5 out of 5 stars Over and over and over...........2007-05-17

That's how I want to play this CD! It's a wonderful line-up of rich, mellow, captivating compositions played with a warmth and vibrancy that is seldom heard. Joshua at his very best. You won't be disappointed.

4 out of 5 stars Non-standard CD format.......2007-04-22

The music on this CD deserves five stars, but the CD itself is a non-standard format that doesn't work on all players. There's a tiny warning on the back of the CD. You won't notice the warning until you discover that the CD doesn't work on your player. My Macintosh computer wouldn't read the non-standard format so there was no way for me to listen in my office or put the music on my iPod.

A friend's PC was able to read the CD and make a copy in standard format that can be read on any player, including my Mac. The story had a happy ending, but I can not comprehend why the publisher chose the oddball CD specification.

The music is excellent and worth the trouble of making a copy, but the publisher really shouldn't make you go to that effort just to listen to a CD that you paid for.

5 out of 5 stars wonderful surprise.......2007-04-13

This recording has quickly become a most favorite cd in my collection. My personal preference had always been for opera and not symphony concert. To hear the violin replace the voice and line of the opera singer (in two of the excerpts) was a wonderful surprise for me, and has enhanced my enjoyment of all of this recording.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars MacRae and Jones head a superb and O.K. adaptation.......2007-03-16

The film adaptation of Oklahoma heralded a technological breakthrough in widescreen cinema just as the original stage musical ushered in the integrated book musical. As such this film adaptation was treated as a special occasion, well-supervised by the creators themselves. The soundtrack, featured here, boasts sterling performances from MacRae and Jones making the most of their portrayals of Curly and Laurey, backed by a charismatic cast and superb orchestrations. And of course let's not forget the enveloping stereo sound that holds up well even today.

Despite being a Hollywood star, Gordon MacRae performs the part of Curly as if he was born to play it even on the stage. He shines vocally in his renditions of Oh, what a Beautiful Mornin' and Surrey with the Fringe on Top. He is well-partnered by Shirley Jones as a fresh and pert Laurey, lending her beautiful voice to the part. Although we don't hear much of her on this soundtrack, her partnering MacRae in People Will Say We're in Love exudes a masterful chemistry, as if they were setting sparks off at each other in their rendition of the song. Gene Nelson makes a dashing Will Parker and is equally well-matched by Gloria Grahame as Ado Annie. Grahame renders I Cain't Say No splendidly and partners Nelson in All er Nothin'. The supporting cast is filled out by Charlotte Greenwood's suitably caustic Aunt Eller and Rod Steiger's Jud. It's a pity that the film cut the song Lonely Room, otherwise Steiger would have better demonstrated the dark hues of the character of Jud. Yet it all adds up to a wonderful renditionh of this classic musical, enough to elicit a spontaneous YEOW! during this year of the Oklahoma centenary.

This EMI-Angel reissue offers one the advantage of the dance music and the main titles. This means that the listener gets the Kansas City and Farmer and the Cowman dance sequences, as well as the extended Dream Ballet. The only downside is the extraneous sound effects lifted from a DVD copy of the movie. Yes I share many of your sentiments that these sound effects tend to grate, and long for Didier Deutsch to have used the original untainted studio vault versions. However, let's at least be thankful that the CD producers have offered us a more comprehensive version of the Oklahoma soundtrack that we could only have dreamt of in the past.

In short, this is a wonderful and valuable addition to the R&H discography, and is an equally celebrated rendition of the score like the original Broadway cast recording. Warmly recommended to those who seek even their first version of Oklahoma.

5 out of 5 stars Broadway in a movie setting at it's very best!.......2007-03-06

I have the original Broadway version, but prefer this movie selection.
The CD is flawless and, in my opinion, there's nothing better than a Rodgers
and Hammerstein musical for music, lyrics and pure joy! This is the best!

5 out of 5 stars Oh, what a beautiful sound!.......2006-03-26

Oklahoma has never sounded better as sung by Gordon MacRae and Shirley Jones in the 1955 movie version of Rodgers and Hammerstein's unforgettable Broadway musical. The memory of MacRae's beautiful voice lives on with this CD. I never tire of hearing this wonderful music. From the opening overture to the finale you will feel as though you're right in the theater.

Hitch up your I-Pods, egg-headed hipsters of the future: They Might Be Giants, the out-there band that files its sound under the banner of "Can't We All Just Get Along" is speaking your language. What they're saying is No!, but in a way that's weirdly welcoming, especially to anybody who's over 3 and has a hard drive. No!'s computer enhancements (animation, games, and a sing-along scroll bar) don't assign the strictly audio experience to the so-what pile, but at certain moments they seem necessary--how else are you supposed to decipher a song ("Violin") whose only words are "violin," "hippo," and the ticking off of fractional segments of George Washington's head? Of course, to try to make sense of the 17 tunes contained here may be to miss the point. While TMBG's lyrical and vocal hijinks can be off-putting to grownups prone to self-consciousness about not getting the joke, the generation No! takes aim at needs nothing in the way of validation. Thus the brilliance of baggage-free ditties like "Fibber Island," where the natives strum rubber guitars and sew buttons on cars, "John Lee Supertaster," a rock & roll fantasy following a hero with heightened senses of sweet and sour, and "I Am a Grocery Bag," detailing what's bumping around in brown paper after a trip to the market. With their triumph over the tube (TMBG took home a Grammy for the theme to Malcolm in the Middle and perform and wrote the intro to The Daily Show with Jon Stewart), frontmen John Linnell and John Flansburgh have already infiltrated the family market, sort of. No! finds the band bending to a level lots of other giants might overlook, but without cramping up. Given the right reach, They Could Be Kiddie Icons. -Tammy La Gorce

1 out of 5 stars Is It True?.......2007-05-25

Is it true that They Might Be Giants are the reason behind the NON-release of the Malcolm in the Middle DVDs? People supposedly in the know say that because They Might Be Giants won't give the music rights, that fabulous comedy program Malcolm in the Middle won't ever be released on DVD (beyond the first season, for some reason).
If this is true, it is terrible! If it is true, I will never ever buy any product of They Might Be Giants until Malcolm in the Middle is fully released!

5 out of 5 stars Great gift for kids from 'cool' aunts and uncles.......2007-05-15

My oldest brother and his wife just had their first baby, so I am a first-time aunt, and therefore clueless about anything having to do with children. My brother is very picky about music, considers himself very hip (ha ha, I'm the little sister so I get to make fun of him), and I'm broke so I can't buy a designer diaper bag, but I CAN afford cool music.

So I just bought them this CD (apparently one of the songs is on some Disney CHannel show?) and they LOVE it. They keep telling me how great it is and how grateful they are to have kids' music to listen to that isn't mind-numbing. I also got them "Toddler" by Sara Hickman, recommended by Zooglobble.com, which has some great reviews of kids music. And 'Good Ideas' by the Imagination Movers, and they like both those albums too, but they especially keep thanking me for this TMBG album.

So now I just have to find something that will help them get her to sleep... :)

5 out of 5 stars Family values as only TMBG can present them.......2007-02-24

This is a brilliant record in every sense of the word; it may be, next to "Flood", my favorite TMBG album. Getting it for your kids is just a great excuse to buy it, although I can honestly say that you haven't lived until you've heard your 18-month-old singing "Robot Parade" or "Four of Two" or "Fibber Island" - it's just so bloody funny hearing our son deliver lines like "Our dog is two miles wide/And all he talks about is pie". Purchase this immediately.

5 out of 5 stars Former TMBG fan raising future TMBG fans!.......2007-01-23

My cousin bought my elder son this CD, when he was obsessed with robots. Now, we sing all the songs, together, with both my boys! It's not too cutesie to make me want to stop the car, but it's kid friendly. My friend came riding with us, one day, and couldn't stop singing, "Don't cross the street in the middle in the middle in the middle of the block!". She then went out and bought the CD. She has no children. We really enjoy this, and learn about different topics, as my sons get older and question parts of the songs.

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely Love It.......2007-01-21

This is an awesome album. I got it for my husband for Christmas. We both are They Might Be Giants fans. We both love it and so does our nearly 2 year old daughter. It is great to have a kid friendly album that is so adult friendly too. It is the same They Might Be Giants I am use to, only the lyrics are crazy in a kid appropriate way, meaning they do not compromise who they are to make a "kiddy" ablum. It is great, even if you don't have kids.
