Amazon.com essential recording
The 12-minute title track, a mid-'70s Fela classic, finds the Afrobeat star at his most charismatically insolent, chanting down Nigeria's military with Pidgin English insults ("Zombie no go think unless you tell am to think") over funky chicken-scratch guitar, minimalist electric piano lines, call-and-response vocals, and complex percussive fury. As for the remainder of this shortish 1976 album: "Monkey Banana" is a slower but no less vehement castigation of white-collar zombies. In "Everything Scatter" Fela ponders why he's so unpopular with the powers that be. Could it be because he's an
amugbo (hemp smoker) who has declared his compound an independent republic?

amazing collection.......2007-02-20
Just a awesome collection of music from one of the coolest most original acts to ever come along. Get this one its well worth ever cent.
A must Have.......2007-02-10
If you love Rob Zombie, this is a must have for your collection
Doesn't have his best songs..........2007-01-26
This CD has some of his greatest songs, but there are so many others that kill the songs on this CD.
Past, Present, and Future.......2007-01-19
Morbid, irreverant, funny. That's the style of Rob Zombie---and a great style it is. Past, Present, and Future gives an incredible scope to the music of the early White Zombie and the late, later, and latest (work) of Mr. Zombie, the man of dark seasons and gothic wit.

Album Description
Fresh off the major success of his latest feature film, "The Devil's Rejects," Rob Zombie is returning this spring to his first passion - music - playing it live and loud. Zombie has finished recording his third solo studio CD, "Educated Horses" (Geffen Records).
"Educated Horses" was produced by Zombie and long time producer Scott Humphrey (Metallica, Motley Crue), who together also produced the platinum hits Hellbilly Deluxe and The Sinister Urge. Other musicians contributing to the CD are Josh Freese (A Perfect Circle, Vandals) and Tommy Lee. Zombie, a prolific video director in his own right having directed over twenty five videos, will direct the video for "Foxy Foxy" (the first single) Zombie will re-team with The Devil's Rejects cinematographer Phil Parmet. Parmet has also worked on Led Zeppelin's "The Song Remains The Same" and Frank Zappa's "Baby Snakes".
Customer Reviews:
Good not great........2007-06-22
I like many of the tracks on this album. I think that John 5 is the best guitarist in rock n' roll. I know that this is a much different kind of album for Rob Zombie, but I think he needed to change it up a bit. My only complaint is that I kinda wished that he cussed a little on this album. Heah. I like it when my metal bands cuss.
All The Zombie Trademarks With Some Fresh New Elements; Great Overall Album.......2007-05-29
A slight departure for Rob Zombie, "Educated Horses" veers away from the electronic effects and the sampling, that were so prevelant on classics like the "Hellbilly Deluxe" album, on most of its songs, focusing on a driving, hammering, metal assault led by great distorted guitar-work and Zombie's distinctive (and increasingly versatile) vocal performance. The electronic/sampling elements are still present, popping up to fine effect on tracks like "Let It All Bleed Out", while techniques not usually associated with Zombie - like soft/acoustic guitars - turn up fairly frequently. The atmospheric instrumental "Sawdust In The Blood" - both haunting and menacing - opens up the album and segues right into the instantly memorable future classic "American Witch".
Most of the lyrics on "Educated Horses" are on the vague side, sounding kind of like songs based on horror movies yet to be made. Creepy, well-crafted, and sometimes with a lot of between-the-lines subtext, they're the kind of songs you can something different out of on subsequent listens. The song on here based on a horror movie that Has been made, is of course "The Devil's Rejects", based on the second of Zombie's 'Firefly family' films. It ties in to the movie in a disturbing way, seemingly a reflection on how the Rejects see themselves and the world around them. "Foxy Foxy" and "The Scorpion Sleeps" are also standout tracks that deserve a special mention, although there's not a weak song on the disc. It's still got pretty much everything that made the previous albums work, but expands with new angles. I think there's a definate influence from '70s classic rock on here, although that influence has been fed through a steam-powered grinder to come out distinctly Rob Zombie. "Educated Horses" is a 4.5 star album containing much of Zombie's best music to date.
Rob knows how to entertain you.......2007-05-09
Rob is a very talented artist and here he is again with a new album and a new tour. This like many of his other albums you can play from start to finish and be entertained. If you get the opportunity to see his show live I would recommend it as well, I have seen him 5 times and have never been dissapointed!
Return of Rob.......2007-04-25
I'll agree with other that this album is Rob's least heavy album. That being said, I found it very enjoyable. The songs are easily accesible and probably the most mainstream sounding Zombie has ever put out. This album is sure to cater to a much wider scope of people then say, Hellbilly Deluxe. The beats and hooks are very catchy. It's defintely not his best effort but still a worthy album that shows how Rob is always progressing and never beating a certain sound to death. A+ to Rob Zombie for his innovation in music from the early White Zombie days to present.
Love the Deadman.......2007-02-19
This guys is just off the chain with his creativity. He has style all his own. I have seen hime live ( looking forward to it again). This CD is really a good piece of work. To many haters trying to compare him to White Zombie. This is different and I would hope everyone would judge it that way

Malevolent megalomaniac or eerie artiste? Rob Zombie is a bit of both. With spooky metal music that's as colorful and kitschy as its comic art, the singer's solo debut bears more than a little resemblance to his band of many years, White Zombie. These 13 tracks (yeah, there just had to be 13!) continue to explore Zombie's fascination with psychotic noise, pummeling grooves, campy samples, and all things horrific. Instead of just playing dictator, however, this astrocreep allows space for cohorts such as guitarist Danny Lohner and drummers John Tempesta and Tommy Lee to shine darkly. He also shares artistic credit for the LP's elaborate 24-page booklet. Zombie's finely crafted disc is heavy-metal thunder that's turbocharged for the new millennium. --Janiss Garza

WHA HAHA.......2007-05-22
this album f'n hits...if u dont own a copy of it follow instructions: push start, then shut down, hop in jalopy and drive to local record store to purchase it. 13 songs (13 tales of cadaverous cavorting inside the spookshow international) stand out songs are living dead girl, dragula and superbeast but you can play the entire album from start to finish no problem. if you like to bang your head then you will surely love this!
Rob Zombie - 'Hellbilly Deluxe' (Geffen) 4 1/2 stars.......2007-02-25
Review #335. Rob Zombie's first solo work after he took a short leave from White Zombie. I remember telling fans that he'll go solo ONLY if this debut of his sells good enough for him to spark up a solo career. Looks like I was right, as Rob never went back to White Zombie since. Tracks here that will remain as true 'extreme metal' gems to us loyal long-timers include "Call Of The Zombie", the *ss-stomper "Dragula" (still like catching the video for this song), "How To Make A Monster", the awesome mosh-pit staple "Living Dead Girl" and "Spookshow Baby". Simply a must-have, if there's still anyone out there that doesn't possess a copy.
Zombie, Zombie!.......2007-01-12
Hellbilly Deluxe has to be the best & far most addictive album of all his solos yet the best of them all. Sinister Urge is a second best then Educated Horses which is last in my book.
"Dragula", "Superbeast", & "Living Dead Girl". 3 great singles in one album & not to mention other great horrific tracks like "Meet The Creeper", "The Ressurection Of Ballad Joe & Rosa W****", "What Lurks On Channel X?", "Demonoid Phenomenom", & "Return Of The Phantom Stranger" will geet you spooken & rocking between your socks as your head chuckles left & right, Zombie style!
This is great for horror metal fans or any heavy metal fans whoever likes that is, metal!
P.S. like I said, Zombie, Zombie! Cause Zombie rocks & rules!
A layed back Metal for most listeners (4.5/5).......2006-07-11
this is most definately the best debut ive heard yet, if white zombie is half as good as this is it is bound to be an incredible debut as well
it opens with call of the zombie, a thirty second opener great opening, then goes straight into superbeast an instant classic. we are graced then with the hearing of dragula, another classic. then living dead girl... great song that has really grown on me. Next we have perversion 99: sweet title for an minute and three quarter song. we have now Demonoid Phenomenon great song great racing song. Spookshow baby, heres the sound that he is famous for, his wierd experimental sounds are greatly shown here. How to make a monster, didnt quite understand it but still kinda good. Meet the creeper is the best song he has to date its a perfect song worth the buy on its own. The Ballad... is an ok song, a longer one shocking for me. What lurks on channel x?: is the weakest song on here but is one of the shortest too. Return of the Phantom stranger... great song with more of that great expermimental sound. The beginning of the end is an ok ending but not that good of a song
This cd is recomended to anyone who wants to try him out, or White Zombie fans this is good stuff here
Good Industrial-Metal.......2006-05-04
This Rob's best album, more darker & heavier than "The Sinister Urge" and "Educated Horses".My favourite song is "Return Of The Phantom Stranger",but all song is good (except one-two fillers). Most powerful track is Dragula and Superbeast, but the hardest is "What Lurks On Channel X ?".Good guitar riffs, with techno sound, and monotonic drums is characteristics on this cd...the vocal's not bad.If you like White Zombie, you'll like this album.

Astro creep's grooviest metal.......2007-02-07
Im usually into white zombie not that interested in rob zombie albums I don't hate em but im usually into the old white zombie stuff alot more. the first song has the perfect speed guitar riff groove ELECTRIC HEAD and SUPER CHARGER HEAVEN. REAL SOLUTION # 9 has the slow heavy guitar riffs and rob sings in a very low voice which is hard to hear what he's saying but very good you would have to read the lyrics to understand and the last one was my most favorite MORE HUMAN THAN HUMAN. 5/5 STARS
A heavy experience.......2006-11-17
This album is great from beginning to end. A classic heavy-metal album, from Electric Head to Blood, Milk and Sky, this is a ride that will fire you up and stir the demons from within. One of my most listened to CD's, still a favourite, even today.
"I remember her saying, I'm already dead...".......2006-01-31
Boy, if the only "metal" you kiddies have been exposed to is that whiny HIM junk, I pity you.
THIS is a REAL industrial-metal album. If that's what you want, this is one you're gonna want.
The pounding, heart-pumping drive of "Supercharger Heaven". (DEVILMAN, DEVILMAN!)
The riff-driven "Creature Of The Wheel".
The ominous-sounding opener, "Electric Head: The Agony (Pt. 1)".
The hit, "More Human Than Human".
And so many more.
Also, the fun, B-movie horror theme (artwork, samples, lyrics) that has come to be associated with Rob Zombie's work is clearly present, and it's campy and really adds to the album.
This is a loud, proud 90's staple. Check it out if you wanna scare all the Yellowcard fans.
and you don't already own this because.....?.......2006-01-12
Unlike Rob zombie's sole stuff white zombie is more gritty, has more guitar work going on and doesn't have as much of an industrial influence to it, but it's still there so don't worry. A lot of the songs are an adrenaline rush and will have up and doing something energenic. One thing about white zombie that I like but don't like about other bands is the use of soundbytes because it adds to the music and doesn't distract from it. So if you like Rob Zombie or metal then buy this cd you won't regret it.

The title of White Zombie's first mainstream success promises some good, trashy fun, and boy does this album deliver. White Zombie is not a nihilistic, the-world-is-rotten heavy metal band; on the contrary, one doubts that they're in danger of taking anything too seriously, and the humor is audible in every riff. La Sexorcisto is rife with distorted guitars, snippets of dialogue from horror movies, and songs about fast cars ("Black Sunshine"), loose women ("Grindhouse (A-Go-Go)"), and the generally weird. Don't think about it too hard; sit back, relax, pop a cool one and crank up the stereo until it shakes your ceiling. -- Genevieve Williams

The last thing Rob did that had balls...........2007-06-17
A lot of people think that this album is inferior to Astro Creep. I guess I would agree with that if I liked whiny vocals and techno/industrial beats, but I don't. La Sexorcisto is such a great album because it was one of the first metal cds that had groove and that made you want to get in a mosh pit and hurt someone. The band actually sounds like a band on this cd, and Rob sounded like some big bearded biker that you didn't want to mess with. He went from sounding like that to doing some fake whiny manufactured voice on the rest of output, starting with Astro Creep. Also, John Tempesta, while being techically a better drummer than Ivan DePrume lacks the feel and creativity that Ivan had on La Sexorcisto. This is probably not his fault since i'm sure Rob had the final word on most of the drum beats. All in all, I think Rob should have stuck with what he did best... grooving metal with some damn balls. I do like his movies though. Devil's Rejects was one of the best horror movies i've ever seen.
not exactly the best..........2007-06-05
i LOVE R. ZOmbie's solo work so i thought for sure this would get my rocks off...WRONG! thunderkiss 65 and black sunshine are awesome songs but the other songs are filler material. skip this disc and get R. ZOmbie past, present and future cd.

I love everything that Rob Zombie has done, but the White Zombie years were special. To everyone who likes his solo stuff, but maybe isn't familiar with the old school Zombie, do yourself a favor and check them out. Classic songs, great riffs, and monster fun. "Thunderkiss '65" is one of the best metal songs of the 90s.
Great.......2007-05-10

Remix albums are often iffy propositions. Either the remixes add nothing to the originals, or veer off so unrecognizably that you wonder what made you want to hear the damn songs in the first place. Well, this disc--essentially a chopped 'n' channeled version of the Zombies' Astro-Creep 2000--deftly avoids both of those pitfalls, thanks in large part to the indelible freak-show presence of Rob Zombie. Some mixes, like those by house music whiz Mike "Hitman" Wilson and psychedelic rappers P.M. Dawn, push the envelope extensively, while industrial master John Fryer and the ubiquitous Dust Brothers just enhance the band's freak-show quintessence. Fans of the surreal should note the presence of a cover of K.C. & the Sunshine Band's "I'm Your Boogie Man." --David Sprague

Who is ROB ZOMBIE.......2007-01-30
Can any one please tell me who Rob Zombie is? What kind of Joker? Entertainer? Musician? Artist? is he? and I have a feeling he is an American. or is he from Europe?
Best Remix cd I've Heard Thus Far!!.......2006-07-18
Usually re-mixes bore the hell outta me and for the most part I don't see the point? If you have a good cd/song, why mess with it? Why take good songs and destroy them completely? Examples, Yes and Queen re-mixes come to mind just off the top of my head as really bad attempts at this. Anyway this is not the case here. Sure their are a few short comings, but for the just cranking up at parties factor this cd rocks and the girl's a nice touch as well.
Overall a decent attempt that deserves some notice.
I WOULD JUST STICK TO ASTRO CREEP.......2005-10-11
Astro creep is absolutely incredible. Zombie likes to mess around with different sounds. I got this when it came out cuz Astro Creep was so good. Its a little bit interesting, mainly for the chick on the cover.
Yes, a Remix Album CAN Rock!.......2005-08-02
This, you should know, is an album full of remixes. That said, know that it is also beyond decent, very good in fact. If you like White Zombie and don't mind electronic music, definitely pick up this album. Many of the remixes rely on some electronic bases to deliver the goods, but it is welcome and it fits as you will see if you purchase this album. Very nice stuff.
Surprisingly Decent.......2005-07-18
When I bought this, it was really cheap and this was the only White zombie CD not in my collection so I figured, why not? Well I prepared myself to cringe, figuring Astro Creep would be butchered, since Rob Zombie's American Made Music to Strip By had done just exactly that to Hellbilly Deluxe. Half of the Remix's on here are not bad at all, the other half of them are not that great but none of them are nessisarily agonizing to listen to. The best one's have been remixed by Charlie Clouser (Electric head pt. 2, More human than Human, Real Solution #9 and El Phantasmo...) The only song from Astro Creep that hasn't been Remixed is Creature of the wheel and the reason for that I think is that that awesome sludge song would have been pretty hard to remix. So instead, the Dust Brother remixed White Zombie's cover of K.C. and the Sunshine Band's I'm Your Boogie Man, which was originally found on the Soundtrack for the Crow (which by the way is a really good movie). Other remixes that are not half bad include the I' Zombie Remix and the Super Charger Remix. However remixes like those of Blur the Technicolor and Blood, Milk and Sky fall flat into annoyance. The worst remix here is by far the one for Electric Head pt. 1, in which the original was so good that it's honestly no surprise of how bad this version is. It's not a must have to own in your collection, only if you are a big fan of Rob Zombie and White Zombie. Get this cheap or used, and you can appreciate it a little more. As for Rob's other remix album, don't even bother. And as for the CD jacket, well there is no nudity but I have the sudden urge to buy a hammock. Hoped this helped.

Review for Rob Zombie's American Made Music to Strip By.......2007-05-14
I love the incredible sounds that Rob Zombie creates on this exciting CD. It is inspiring and motivating with a real human-ness that has a very modern edge. The sound waves are like reviving ocean waves that make you want to get out there and enjoy life... His ability to awaken the human senses are fabulously demonstrated through his electrifying music. I love his revolutionary style, and am very happy to experience his exhilarating music.
Good but not great........2007-04-06
I bought this album mainly for track 9. I like the CD for the most part, and the mixes are good, but it's not quite as good as Supersexy Swingin' Sounds mainly because the originals of the remixes here are not quite as good as the originals that are remixed for SSS. I would recommend it, but it won't blow your mind.
Rob Who?.......2007-01-30
Can any one please tell me who Rob Zombie is? What kind of Joker? Entertainer? Musician? Artist? is he? and I have a feeling he is an American. or is he from Europe?
horror remixed.......2007-01-04
What can I say? This cd is a perfect combination of Zombie's previous works with more electronic music woven into it.
Super Sexy Music to Swing by!.......2006-10-25
Good remix albums are hard to find.
Granted I'd admit you probably have to enjoy techno and metal to like it,
but that happens to be one of my favorite combinations.
Similar to Super Sexy Swingin Sounds, this is pretty much zombie's songs very professionally remixed for a sound all thier own, much unlike the many rock remixes out there where a drum track is laid on top of an existing song and slapped with the label "remix" to get some extra cash of that "special edition" cd.
This is such a great remix cd, I would reccomend it over the original, Hellbilly Deluxe.

With Sinister Urge, Rob Zombie again wraps his rasp around a thunderous blend of heavy grooves powered by human and electronic drums. Creepy touches of theremin and keyboards add goth accents, while the clever arrangements adorn melodies that are irresistibly catchy yet plenty aggressive. The lyrics are set firmly in a horror realm; with titles such as "House of 1,000 Corpses" and "Scum of the Earth," one wouldn't anticipate tender love songs. Zombie scatters about sound bites from monster movies for good measure--an apt touch, but with the album clocking in at less than 40 minutes, there's a bit too much filler. Still, with highlights such as "Bring Her Down," with its spine- tingling orchestration, the hard-driving "Dead Girl Superstar" (featuring Slayer guitarist Kerry King), and "Feel So Numb," Zombie generates much genuine excitement. --Gail Flug

feed my head mr zombie.......2007-05-22
this is awesome stuff too! this and hellbilly deluxe i dont know which one is better...truthfully it doesnt matter which is better if you dont own them both you are as wrong as two boys in a closet. mr zombie's second helping after going solo hits just as hard as the first with 11 songs. standout tracks include demon speeding, dead girl superstar, going to california, crippletown(bring her down) and scum of the earth (also to be found on the MI-2 soundtrack). ozzy also chimes in on the song iron head. buy it now and bang your head.
Pass auf!.......2006-01-12
Another good but different cd from Rob Zombie. This album includes great guitar riffage, an orcastra and some poppy elements that some older fans might not enjoy. The album is pretty short though with a filler track that's just a bunch of nonsense that I always skip. I guess it'd better to have a short cd with a lot of good songs than a cd with some good songs and a lot of bad songs. I really enjoyed all of the songs and most of them stand out except "bring her down" and "scum of the earth." So go do yourself a favor and buy this disk.

Knowing that "The Sinister Urge" takes it's name from a 1961 Ed Wood film about a wide-eyed, sex-crazed maniac who murders young women in a city park, which police suspect is a part of the smut picture racket... and, somehow, the mob is involved. With that said, it's safe to say that Rob Zombie aligns himself with the off-beat -- but his music is superbly on-beat. His second foray into the solo musician world, he embarks upon a mixture of '70s gutter trash glam grooves meets roaring, aggressive (unlikely) pop/disco melodies with full symphonic instruments, stereo soundwork and sampled sound clips. The same genre-bluring he's infamous for with is other efforts.
A change of lyrical and tonal pace from his first solo record, "Hellbilly Deluxe", where he sung about straight horror (in a tongue-in-cheek fashion), and his work in White Zombie, which progressed from album to album, as well. This time, he takes a darker route, channeling (as the title mentions) sex, murder and madness -- but tastefully. Evident in track "Never Gonna Stop", where some of the lyrics are direct references to Stanley Kubrick's "A Clockwork Orange".
Symphonically roaring "Bring Her Down" is my favorite track from the album, where "California" shares the second place slot. Both feel very classic and time-period defining (late '60s - early '70s), yet contemporary at the same time. More retro-futuristic, really. With a catchy chorus in "California" like "Get up, get out, get inside the outside", you know that Zombie had his eyes set on music which would well represent the counter-culture, drug-wasted high-life feel of Hollywood's finest years.
My favorite of his two solo records, it is a true masterpiece and a welcomed addition to his discography.
A worthy follow-up.......2005-06-17
Some people have nothing to say but bad things about this album, and admittedly its a slightly different turn, but its still the Mr. Zombie we all know and love (and worship.) This ones got a few guest appearances that read like a page torn out of the history of metal. Tommy lee has some appearances on various songs. The solo by Guitar-god of Slayer fame: Kerry King on the track 3: dead girl superstar, and of course, the vocal support on Iron Head by our old friend the Ozzman. The songs are well made (some have a backing orchestra even) and admittedly arent as diverse as they are on his debut (Hellbilly Deluxe) but theyre still great and flooded with samples and a halloween-esque vibe. Some standout tracks are Demon Speeding, Bring Her Down (To Cripple Town), Scum of the Earth, Never Gonna Stop(The Red Red Kroovy) and of course Iron Head. Theyre all worth listening to though, and esspecially for fans of The debut. sure, some old White Zombie fans will be turned off a bit by it, but its still a great album. Esspecially if you heard Hellbilly Deluxe and you need more (which you will).

When this 4 CD, 119-song collection appeared, there were those who doubted anyone would want so much music by a group that only had three hits ("She's Not There," "Tell Her No," and "Time of the Season"). Defying the naysayers, Zombie Heaven inspired renewed Zombie mania among pop cognoscenti. With its beautiful cover, fascinating book, and every recording the group ever made, it truly is Zombie heaven. Unlike most artists of their era whose album cuts were far inferior to their singles, Colin Blunstone, Rod Argent, and company had, if anything, too much talent. From the baroque beauty of "Care of Cell 44," to the wistful pop soul of "If It Don't Work Out," and the driving "Indication," this is a treasure for all fans of pure pop. --Dawn Eden

Customer Reviews:
Expensive, but well worth it........2007-01-07
I recently upgraded to Zombie Heaven from the greatest hits compilation Absolutely The Best. I just wanted to drop in and say that the upgrade was well worth it. Zombie Heaven is probably the most lovingly created boxed set I've ever seen. The music sounds fantastic and the vast majority of everything the Zombies ever thought about recording is here. The liner notes are the best I've ever read. They're very informative and complete and feature a lot of wonderful pictures I'd never seen before.
If you're just interested in the 3 hits, then you'll probably be better served by a greatest hits compilation. If, however, you want to dig in a bit further, then Zombie Heaven is definitely the way to go. For a band with only 3 hits, the Zombies had an incredibly rich and deep discography that is beautifully presented here. Zombie Heaven is expensive, but well worth it.
If only I could rate this 6 stars.......2006-11-29
Why did I put off buying this gem for so long? I'll tell you. The price. I always loved the Zombies, Argent, Colin's solo works, and I still have the vinyl recordings. When I first saw this, my super-ego kicked in, and for a while my id was in deep pain. Why is it so expensive? Well, I found out the answer. It's worth it. Imagine clean sound, great stereo mixes where available, unearthed BBC recordings, brilliant liner notes. This is the real deal. Plus you realize that this was a band for the ages. Worth every penny. Come on, you're worth it, too.
All their hits on Heaven ? Careful !.......2005-08-14
When you like me were introduced to The Zombies by the dvd Live at Bloomsbury theatre and Andorra and I want to fly are in your all time Zombies top 10, you will be dissapointed to not find them on this magnificent compilation of Zombies hits called Heaven.
Andorra and i want to fly are songs written later than the periode covered by Heaven. So be sure to not only buy Heaven but also a copy of their concert in Bloomsbury. That way you really have it all ! The Zombies for me are one of the most underrated bands in the history of music. They should have been right up there with all the big names, but due to hard luck i guess and maybe their name (?) they were not. They will be performing in The Netherlands and i will be there ! I am sure it's gonna be one of the best concerts i have ever seen with Colin Blunstone (magnificent voice) and keyboardwizard Rod Argent and the other guys on stage.
TIME OF THE ZOMBIES.......2005-01-22
A boxed set from a bunch of guys who only had 3 or 4 hit records at best? What could be on it? PUUULLLENTY. And is it any good? YOU BETCHA! 119 numbers from a 4 year period. These guys were PROLIFIC and just about the most hard lucked band of the Briish Invasion. Trouble with their work permits kept them from capitalizing on their fame here, when they hit right out of the box with SHE'S NOT THERE. Bad luck, bad management, trouble with unions did not stop these guys from plugging away. This set is like finding a treasure trove of GOOD British Invasion records you never heard before. Rave-ups, eerie introspective numbers (way before they were in vogue), and just plain wonderful pop songs permeate this fantastic sounding 4 disc set. That's info for the uninitiated. For those in the know, there's mono and rare stereo versions, overdubbed and pre-overdubbed versions, studio chatter and rehearsals, live at the BBC recordings, a massive 65 page booklet that goes through the band's history and track by track breakdown and commentary from the guys, a ton of photos, and just about everything this group ever recorded. Very, very few clunkers. Despite two timeless #1 hits (at the begining and end of their career) the Zombies need to be re-evaluated as one the top groups of the British Invasion. And this set is the proof.
Bliss.......2004-12-13
This awesome box set is by far the easiest (and probably cheapest, as long as you have the money to drop all at once) way to get all of the Zombies' released material--and then some! You really have to hand it to Big Beat--the Zombies' catalogue (particularly the singles) has been repackaged & re-released time and time again almost since their breakup...but with Zombie Heaven, Big Beat delivers the Zombies' entire works on four CD's, all of which are filled nearly to the brim (a standard CD holds 80 minutes of sound, and all four programs here are in excess of 70). That's not all you get, however. Also included is an invaluable 68-page book with information on every track and a comprehensive history of the group, told mostly by the Zombies themselves.
Disc 1 - Begin Here and Singles
As the title suggests, this disc includes the Zombies' debut album, Begin Here, and most of their A- & B-sides that did not appear on any album (the remainder are on disc 2). Begin Here has been described as a "typical" album of its time, and while that's somewhat true, I believe there's more to it than that. The album does contain a couple lukewarm covers, but those are outweighed by such gems as "I Can't Make Up My Mind," their jazzy rendition of "Summertime," "I Remember When I Loved Her," and "I Don't Want To Know," which has a 12-string guitar intro with a sound that a certain folk-rock band would popularize a year later. As for the singles, there isn't a weak one in the bunch, though only two of them ("She's Not There" & "Tell Her No") were successful, which calls into question what the public was instead listening to at the time (well, okay, the Beatles)...even George Harrison said at the time that he couldn't understand why the Zombies weren't being more successful.
Disc 2 - Odessey & Oracle and The Lost Album
This is the best of the four discs because it contains the magical Odessey & Oracle album. It also has the tracks intended for the aborted R.I.P. project--six songs recorded in the late 60's and 5 more great ones which the Zombies recorded earlier in their career but never released (plus "I'll Call You Mine"), done up with overdubbed strings & vocals. And if you don't care for the overdubbed versions, Zombie Heaven gives you the freedom of choice and you can listen to the originals on disc 3!
Disc 3 - In The Studio / Rare & Unissued
The third disc is a bit of a hodgepodge. The songs range from ones that had been officially released in formats such as EP's but are extremely hard to find to demos of songs that went (regretfully) unreleased. There are also full-band demos of songs which were later released, which hurts the disc a little because these demos usually aren't too incredibly different from the finished versions, just understandably rawer and less slick. It's too bad there weren't original home demos of these songs in their infant state available--that would have been more interesting.
Disc 4 - Live On The BBC
Good "live" stuff. If you've ever heard a "BBC" album by any other artist, you know what you're getting here. Standout tracks include previously unreleased covers of "The Look Of Love" & "Will You Love Me Tomorrow" as well as an extended version of "What More Can I Do" and an organ-dominated "She's Not There." The disc ends with an interview where Rod & Chris talk about their future plans in music.
Again, this is the ultimate release for Zombies fans. The one & only drawback: there isn't more!

Fogerty.......2007-06-10
Great value. If you remember the 60s' and 70s' you will love this one.
Awful.......2006-12-01
I think something bad must have happened in his life before he made this album. Very depressing.
Yep, It Sucks.......2006-09-19
Only the most extremely deluded devotees can argue that this is a great release. Songs are overlong and awash in (now) dated production. John didn't need to experiment. His early stuff with Creedence is timeless, and to this day, remains his best work. Eye of the Zombie is an abomination. For an example of how miscalculated and boring this album is, check out "Soda Pop." This makes "Centerfield," (a rather derivative and self-imitating effort) seem like the work of a genius. Stick with the first six Creedence albums.
Underrated And Powerful In It's Angry Intensity!.......2006-09-14
I think it is kind of sad when an artist releases a new album and people condemn it for not sounding like their previous CD's. We expect Evolution in everything but our songwriters it seems. It kind of reminds me of ageing accountant and lawyers who pretend they are "hippies' again after they smoke some "Whacky Terbaccy".Mr. Fogerty had the guts to produce this very good album with synthesisers on it and not everybody could accept that he wanted to try something new and perhaps take his music to the next level. Such is the ficklessness of the General Music Buying Public at large. There is some great hard rocking guitar work on this album and I am happy to say that Mr. Fogerty has lost none of his very accurate Sociological Powers of Observation which can be heard in the track "Headlines" which is about the Power of the Media and asking just when does it reach "Saturation Point"? This track alone makes this album worth buying.
John Fogerty meets Miami Vice.......2006-08-15
No amount of historical perspective and contextualization can convince me that this does not suck. Yes, synthesizers and electronic drums were enjoying undue popularity but the thing that makes John Fogerty John Fogerty is his lack of interest in the fashionable, hence his surrender to those trappings results in the most un-John Fogerty like CD he's ever put out.
Now I'm not the kind of jerk that won't allow someone to try something new, but "new" doesn't automatically mean "good"
So does anyone else aside from me knows this sucks? Yes, John Fogerty himself does as he almost never, ever plays any songs from this wretched CD.
