Fans of the Titanic soundtrack will undoubtedly appreciate this sequel, a collection of original music and background tunes not found on the first disc. They won't be disappointed. The newly composed "Titanic Suite" and "Epilogue: The Deep and Timeless Sea" are patchwork quilts of James Horner's most moving themes from the movie. Despite a few awkward transitions in "Suite" (where melodies move from somber to uplifting), the compositions--played by the London Symphony Orchestra and the Choirsters of King's College, Cambridge--work well. There's also a lot of diversity here, such as Gaelic Storm's lively "An Irish Party in Third Class" and chamber group I Salonisti's "Alexander's Ragtime Band" and "Nearer My God to Thee." The misses are few: the breathy Maire Brennan's "Come Josephine, in My Flying Machine" is lethargic, and the movie dialogue peppering several songs (including Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On") is more distracting than effective. --Jason VerlindeCustomer Reviews:

Wait! Haven't I heard this before?!.......2007-03-17
The songs which don't have dialogue are nothing special, you could probably find the similar on the first soundtrack.
The beauty of the whole album is the lovely version of 'Come Josephine In My Flying Machine' (again, ruined by Rose's movie quotes) but it's enough to make you glad you bought the album.
However, unless you're a dedicated classical music fan who likes long strung-out piano pieces and organs, you'd be best to steer your ship away from this album which was only made to create more wealth for James Cameron and his crew, and stick with the original soundtrack.
A 'shelf-sitter' for the most part, how many times you'll feel the need to put this on, I doubt there will be an overwhelming urge.
More of the same, less of the power.
Noteworthy tracks: 'A Building Panic', 'Nearer My God To Thee', 'Titanic Suite'.
Leftovers and inspired by's.......2006-10-18
Well...you get what you pay for I guess.
If I had to sum up Return to Titanic, I would say "It's the leftovers that got cut out of the first musical score, and has music that isn't in the movie". This musical CD is, for me, a dissapointment through and through, though your opinion on it may vary.
Back to Titanic has a very heavy irish motif running through almost all the tracks. Pretty much all of them feature bagpipes and while nice and charming, it does wear thin on your nerves after a while, especially if you don't like bagpipes in the first place. But along with this irish theme, you'll notice something else: Many of the tracks aren't even from the movie. "Come Josephine", "Lament", "Jack Dawson's luck" and "A shore never reached" aren't even from the film. It is just me, or is it really irritating when you buy a movie music CD and don't get music from the film? Though to be fair, the music does parallel the themes from the film pretty well.
In addition to the irish motif and music that wasn't in the film, Back to Titanic has another interesting trait: It reuses a lot of the music from the first CD. The titanic suite and "The deep and endless sea" are long tracks made up of most of the non-sinking music from the first effort, patched together and from a new performance. Yes it's nice and all, but I really don't feel like listening to nineteen minutes of music that I've already heard before.
So, what is new music that WAS in the film? We've got five tracks. The first, "An Irish Party In Third Class" is the music that played during Jack and Rose's trip down to the third class dance. Fine if you don't mind heavy irish dancing music, but I personally don't care for it. Next up, we have "Alexander's Ragtime Band" which is most easily heard when Rose is recalling how she saw her life flash before her eyes (just before meeting Jack for the first time). Simple and pleasant, this makes for good old time background party music. I personally am neutral towards it. The (apparently) most praised track that's new is "A building panic" which covers the early stages of Titanic sinking. However, compared to the sinking pieces heard before, this seems pretty tame and low-key to me. Maybe i'm a fan of big disaster music, but this track diddn't move me either way. Has some nice moments, but it's personally not up to my taste.
Out of all the tracks on this CD, only two really stand out in my opinion. The first, "The portrait" is a simple piano suite that was played during...guess what? the scene where Jack draws Rose. It's simple yes, but Mr. Horner is quite good at the piano and manages to tell the Titanic theme very well. Simple, yet highly effective. The second track that deserves mention is "Nearer My God To Thee - I Salonisti". Remember that incredibly moving moment where the band plays it's final piece as the front half of the ship goes under? This is that song, and it's just as moving here as it was in the film (though I personally could do without the movie dialoge at the very end).
Aside from these five tracks, what else do we have? Well, we have a fairly boring alternate version of "Nearer my God to thee" that has no interest for me whatsoever. And we also have a new recut of "my heart will go on." I really do like the original version of this song, but other reviewers have talked about this paticular piece at length, so i'll add only this: Hopefully, the people at Sony have learned that you DONT stick movie dialoge into your big song numbers.
So...that's it. Five new movie pieces, only two of which hold my attention, four pieces of music that wern't in the movie that are to me, boring, an uninteresting recut of a popular song, an alternate and weaker version of "nearer my God to thee" and two long suites that re-use 98% of the music from the last CD.
Pffft.
Even with all this music, we STILL don't get the two best pieces of the film: The haunting opening title track, and the heartwrenching ending piece (one reviewer has said that the latter is in the first suite, but it diddn't sound like it to me). Some have commented that this CD is better then the first one, both overall and emotionally, but I honestly can't see how that's possible. The first music CD has the overwhelming majority of material from the film, and all of the best, most dramatic moments (save the two previously mentioned tracks). As a titanic fan, this CD is a dissapointment. If you must buy it, buy it used for less then five dollars.
If nothing else, this CD has inspired me to make my own CD of the music from the film...which does have the two best tracks that have yet to be released officialy.
Wonderful... for the most part..........2006-08-31
However, there is one downfall, which I don't know if theres a similar soundtrack that comes without it, but the voices of the characters are distracting to the music and I feel should not have been put in it. During most of the songs, characters such as Jack and Rose say some of their lines.

Better than ever!.......2007-05-05
Review of this album by All Music Guide.......2007-04-23
McGlynn's sophistication as a composer accounts for much of the album's appeal. The title track, featuring a speaker reciting an idyllic Rimbaud poem, accompanied by violin, harp, and women's chorus singing a sensual, impressionistic setting of the same text, vividly captures the serenity and eroticism of Rimbaud's imagery. McGlynn's setting of the medieval text Maid in the Moor Lay is disarming in its folk-like simplicity and purity. His O Maria is harmonically and texturally complex, but never sounds "difficult," and conveys an otherworldly and enveloping serenity. Other pieces, such as Silver River and Shining Water, bring a new age sensibility to the Irish folk tradition.
The other factor in making this album so sensually appealing and rewarding is the extraordinary technical prowess and secure musicianship of the singers. The ease and precision and musicality of their performances of extremely demanding music puts them in the ranks of the very finest chamber choirs. It would be a pleasure to hear them bring their formidable strength to the broader repertoire of exceptional (and exceptionally difficult to perform) choral music that is being written today.

Maire Brennan continues to bless her hearers..........2006-03-12
Love this ablum.......2005-12-11
Good Debut!.......2004-03-25
"Ce Leis" is a wonderful opener, with a style all her own.
"Against The Wind," with a beat that I have determined is almost identical the one that drives the Clannad song "A Mhuirnin O" (from Landmarks) is certainly the most energetic cut.
Contrast that with one of my favorites, "Oro," a slow Gaelic lullaby which works primarily because of its simplicity.
The only misstep, "Voices of the Land," tends to depart from the melodic approach used on the rest of the tracks. The chanting chorus (in my opinion, anyway) ruins the song, and I take off a star for that. But the album quickly recovers!
"Jealous Heart," while not my favorite, is a nice folk ballad.
No other reviewers seem to notice the similarities between Maire's "Land of Youth" and Enya's "Storms in Africa," but they stand out to me. I like to hope she wasn't just copying off of her sister...but either way it's a wonderful song.
"I Believe (Deep Within)" never made much of an impression on me either way.
"Beating Heart" has always sounded African to me. It is certainly the weirdest song (but in a good way!), with almost no instrumentation besides the percussion and chanting vocals.
If I had to pick an absolute favorite, it would be "No Easy Way" This wonderfully ethereal song mixes exotic instruments with a style reminiscent of Enya's work. Even the slight touch of jazz at the end (which I usually hate) seems to work here.
"Atlantic Shore" is a bit more pop-oriented than the rest of the album, but it's not out of place.
I definitely recommend this to Loreena McKennitt fans. Clannad listeners will find a much different style in her solo debut than they are used to. As for Enya, her older sister experiments a lot more, but may be enjoyed by fans.
Simple, but slow.......2004-02-28
Voice of Clannad goes solo, with worthy results.......2003-11-04
"Ce Leis" is a quiet melancholy affair where Maire's harp comes in. The haunting backing vocals by her family, Dee, Olive, and Bridin Brennan, recall that of her more famous sister, and the protagonist is haunted by the absence of a loved one. The Celtic chorus "Ce leis an dholas/I meascc mo dhaoine/bimse uaigneach" translates to "Whose is the sorrow among my people I feel alone."
Pounding drums and traditional sounds and chants dominate the upbeat "Against The Wind", which tells of intergenerational struggles. "Old ways follows the beaten track," whereas the new generation are "defying their leaders/holding out for free will." These are the people who are against the wind, going that road less travelled. So the message is "The game is in your hands/reach for every moment."
"Oro" has high-register, angelic voices from any of Enya's albums. This is a lullaby to an infant, and the Brennans' vocals chanting the refrain "Codlah samh a paiste mo chroi" adds a very benevolent touch. It means "Sleep peacefully my sweet child" This alone makes it a standout track.
The mid-paced "Voices Of The Land" is an introspective question beholding the beauties of Earth, "streams of silver/streams of gold" and the "trees so tall and proud". She wonders how much longer they will last. The words themselves could be recited as poetry. The backing Brennans provided a chanting refrain after the chorus.
The quiet guitar and drum ballad "Jealous Heart" tells the story of someone who tries to forget someone by trying to put new roots, but she hears the voices calling her to come back home. The Brennans' voice are really angelic when they sing the title.
"Land Of Youth (Tir na nOg)" fascinated me because of the story, based on Irish folklore. A warrior, Oisin, encounters Niamb, a beautiful woman who offers him eternal youth and love in the title land. He grows homesick, only to have Niamb inform him that three centuries have passed in Ireland. She gives him a white horse that would carry him to safety, but his feet must never touch the ground, or else he will never return to her. He descends to help a man building a stone wall, and guess what happens? He ages three hundred years! This kind of recalls the Japanese legend of Urashima Taro, who ages under similar circumstances.
The Enya-like piano ballad "I Believe (Deep Within)" is a showcase for Maire's voice, and tells of a man who yearns for freedom and a new start but is financially unable to leave home. Maire's lilting up and down voice reassuringly sings "Never lose the faith/from your faded heart/never lose desire/to drift away." This story of the Irish experience must have been felt by many who were bound to their hard land.
"Beating Heart" is a danceable jig, featuring the Brennans, who sing in unison to the thundering drums and snappy percussion.
"No Easy Way" has to do with life's decisions, and some lines sung in Celtic by the Brennans recall a mother's advice. "Mothaim thu cogarnai/mohaim thu le comhairle" translates to "I hear you whispering/I hear your advice." She sagely then asks "How can we know what the book of life holds for us all?"
"Atlantic Shore" has a pop-sensible beat and finishes the album. Most of the songs here are mellow like her sister, and some of them recall Enya's music, the difference being Maire's up and down voice. Yet another interpretation of the Enya/Clannad sound that is worthy in its own merit.

Moya's divinity and music shine on this excellent CD .......2006-10-25
My favorite song is Song of David. Moya's voice in the opening verse of this unique choir song are some of the most beautiful notes of music these ears have EVER heard--it brought tears to my eyes. You feel so in touch with the divinity within your soul in this one. It is truly magical and special.
Other favorites include The Big Rock, Na Paisti (love the harmonic voices in this one), Our World, and Doon Well (again, lovely voice harmonics).
Some of the songs otherwise are good and may even be favorites to others but those songs I like on this CD are some of the most inspirational songs Moya has ever produced. There's enough good musical variety too that could satisfy a broad range of musical tastes.
Not Everything Gaelic Equates Paganism.......2006-02-11
Containing the type of harmonious melodies and gentle nuances her fans have come to expect of her, Maire doesn't disappoint. There are however some subtle differences between the mood and feel of 'Perfect Time' and her other earlier endeavors.
The overtly reverential Christian tone throughout somewhat stiffles the more spontaneous and joyous Gaelic sounds conveyed in the pagan influences found in her earlier endeavors. It's only in -track 3- 'The Light On The Hill' that I get the feel of the Clannad years. Be that as it may, it's a beautiful recording and a worthy addition to anyones' music library.
A wonderful release!.......2005-10-20
Nothing on here will surprise or really impress you but this cd is more about bringing a consistent listen to your ears that will make any stressful day dissapear.

Whisper to the Wild Water is a sweet sonic journey of liquid swirling arrangements and the frothy mellifluous wash of Máire Brennan's looping vocals. Here the singer for her family band, Clannad (and elder sister to the better-known Enya), ventures farther astream from her previous solo efforts to incorporate more flutes, pipes, and Celtic traditional touches amid her penchant for spiritual themes and the light world rhythms of drum loops. Ever mindful of familial strength, Brennan collaborated on the writing of this collection with her husband, duets with her mother on one cut, and features her 5-year-old son intoning the Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi in Gaelic. Singing in both English and the tongue of her native County Donegal, Brennan creates a work that, while not overtly Christian, is gently uplifting and attuned to the healing properties of song. Like a cradle rocked by the sea's lulling tide, Whisper to the Wild Water soothes, pacifies, and guides the listener to a delicious place of well being. --Paige La GroneCustomer Reviews:
Etheral Journey.......2007-03-05
Continues with the religious themes brought up in 'Perect Time' this does push more toward Enya's style.
The copy I acquired was printed in Japan so I got a bonus track only available on that copy.
As always she has such a style in mixing Gaelic and english lyrics.
This goes beyond the typical Clannad albums and is truely more etheral and surreal. Wonderful mood music.
Perfect Time Part II...but with a different style.......2006-10-25
My favorite song is Be Thou My Vision. This is 95% Moya's voice and a little background music but oh how beautiful this song is! This song puts you in a different place and takes your breath away. My only hit on this song is that it is way too short! Moya sings Gaelic so beautifully that I think your soul just sings along with her and fills your heart with joy.
Other favorites include Peacemaker and In God's Presence. Peacemaker features a child speaking in Gaelic and Moya filling in musically between spoken verses--a different kind of song altogether and your can feel the passion of the guitar playing along with Moya's voice. In God's Presence is a choir song with Moya singing along with a church choir. Like Song of David in Perfect Time, this song moves my soul.
Don't be put off by Moya's Christian influence here. This is music anyone can listen to. The only thing you will feel is uplifted and satisfied at hearing good collection of songs by Moya.

I won't point out each song to you as that's kind of what the samples are for, but each and every song on here is great and a few are exceptionally great!

Hauntingly beautiful........2005-12-19
Not being a professional musical antiquarian, the very best I can say about this recording is that it is better than the first collection, 'shining light'.
Oddly, my biggest problem with both collections is that nothing on both recordings does anything whatsoever to evoke Christmas for me. I say that because there are some buyers who may be on the lookout for some unusual Christmas music and they just may be disappointed by what the do NOT hear on these recordings. That caveat aside, this collection is very, very good in its variety of male, female, and instrumental voices.
What some tracks do evoke is an oddly Celtic sound, especially in some of the instrumental tracks. All the vocals are in Latin, meaning they were all written to be performed for and by the monks and nuns of the monasteries in the Christmas season.
There is simply nothing here sounding remotely like 'O Little Town of Bethlehem', even in Latin.
If you want a portal into the world of very old music, I can think of nothing better. It is certainly more diverse and more interesting than the otherwise excellent 'Anonymous 4' recordings of old Christmas music.
Highly recommended.

Very Enjoyable Brennan Record.......2007-04-12
Brennan uses traditonal Irish songs and Irish instruments skillfully. She also performs Joni Mitchell's classic folk song "Big Yellow Taxi." But songs like "The Days of the Dancing," " A Place Among the Stones," "Ah Fharraige," and "Eirigh Suas a Storin" are the reason to enjoy and buy this CD.
This is a great CD for someone's Irish folk music collection.
Superb; just make sure you know what you're getting first!.......2007-02-12
The overall effect is more "world music" than Celtic--African percussion is used extensively, and a Mediterranean/Middle Eastern flavor prevails on songs such as "The Mighty One" (which was written about Mount Everest) and "The Days of the Dancing." My favorite track is the slow, dreamy "An Fharraige," with its Gaelic lyrics and minimalist instrumentation--only a synthesizer drone, bodhran drum, and a little bouzouki support her voice for a meditative song on which truly, less is more. In other places, an American, almost country-western sound comes through (in no small part due to the clever addition of the dobro on several tracks), especially on "Dream On" and her cover of Joni Mitchell's "Big Yellow Taxi." The album comes to a big finish with the exquisite, orchestrally-arranged "Eirigh Suas A Stoirin," the only traditional song on the CD.
Another gem is the title track, which was written by Moya as a mother's love song to her son Paul, when he was first born. It's very personal material for her to sing--and it's quite emotional.
Overall, if you are open-minded and like eclectic music, I believe this is Moya Brennan's strongest album. Just be sure you know what you are getting before you buy it.
WONDERFUL.......2007-01-03
Moya's second solo effort includes some real musical gems.......2006-10-25
The first track, The Days Of The Dancing, is my favorite Moya song of all time. This song is so many things at once. It is joyful, fun, catchy, and a musical treat with all those interesting instuments and those background vocalists singing "LA LA LA". Even if Moya's music isn't your favorite, this song will win your heart.
The second great song, Dream On, has an American pop flavor to it. Again, like Days of the Dancing, this song stands as a unique effort among Moya's body of work. The real strength of this song is Moya's passionate verses and emotional delivery. It's about feeling the deep eternal love of another--one could make the case that the love Moya speaks of here is that kind that one only experiences with the divine. Musically, it is pretty song that beats with a passionate heart.
The Mighty One is another musical treat where once again Moya's unique mix of musical instruments and backgound vocals brings this song to life. It is a song I like to turn up the volume to. The background singers, to me, are the feature act here.
Heroes is a similar song but here those background singers get to let their hair down a bit. The result is a musically interesting and entertaining piece. The percussion is the most intense of any MEA selection.
An Fharraige gets honorable mention.
The rest of the songs on this CD range from good to fair. The strength of the four songs above is enough to make this Moya production worth the cost to any prospective buyer.
This "Mighty One" wears the crown.......2004-06-07

The pristine tones and lilting melodies of the Celtic harp are immediately inviting. Celtic Harpestry, a companion to a PBS performance special, explores a sound both traditional and modern in a tasteful and evocative collection. This isn't a purist's album--half of the harpists aren't even from the Celtic isles, and among the album's old Irish chestnuts is "My Heart Will Go On," the love theme from Titanic. The otherwise-joyful Belfast Harp Orchestra tromp through the James Horner tune, almost pulling some subtlety out of its overwrought themes. Turlough O'Carolan, the blind patron saint of the Celtic harp, might wish he were deaf as well, if he could hear it. But the bard would be thrilled to hear the 12-piece BHO playing the traditional "Brian Boru's Set" or one of founder Janet Harbison's zephyrlike originals. Her "Earth, Water, Wind and Fire" elicits shifting textures and colors that belie their traditional roots. The song also exemplifies the ethereal side of the Celtic harp explored on Celtic Harpestry with artists like Rüdiger Oppermann. Playing a wire-strung harp accompanied by bass and keyboards, the German harpist soars through crystalline melodies whether he's playing traditional tunes or originals. The most traditional sound actually comes from the American players. Cheryl Ann Fulton gives a straight-up rendition of "Breton Medley," and jazz harpist Deborah Henson-Conant is refreshingly restrained, faithfully rendering "Londonderry Aire (Danny Boy)" and "The Minstrel Boy." Although Celtic Harpestry focuses on slow airs, there are robust performances here, including those by Máire Ni Chathasaigh's group and the harp and vocal duo of Sileas. Outside of the Titanic love theme, Celtic Harpestry is an elegantly wrought collection. --John DilibertoCustomer Reviews:
Celtic Meets Classical.......2007-07-12
This collection overlaps several genres. Celtic, classical and New Age meet in what may be the instrument most associated with classical melodies.
If you are a fan of Rap or Hip Hop, keep looking. If you want a hoedown, this is not going to be your cuppa joe. But if you are looking for something elegant - background music for a business or important meeting, for example - this is a wonderful, understated choice.

No matter how many times I have listened to this recording, I ALWAYS break into a smile when the Belfast Harp Orchestra begins to play. Nothing prepares you for that 12-harp sound!
