2 out of 5 stars Decent jokes, bad delivery.......2007-06-25

About half of the jokes on the CD were amusing, but the whole time I was listening to it I kept thinking that this could be really funny stuff in the hands of someone like Dave Attell. I think Hedberg was probably a good writer, but not a very good comedian.

He alluded to the fact that he was making a CD of the performance. It was very annoying when he played to the live audience, doing visual things and telling them that, ha-ha, the people listening on CD won't get this.

5 out of 5 stars I cried when Mitch Hedberg died........2007-05-22

He was my absolute most favorite comic and I couldn't help it. I have never had anyone close to me die and I had seen Mitch in concert twice so really he is the closest person to me who has died. That is sad for me I know. Anyhow, this cd is awesome! Unlike his first cd, which is also great, this one has a little bit of a more uptempo delivery. He sounds like he kicked the drugs for a little while before he recorded this. With all the jokes being so short there are many many jokes on this disc. Not only that, but Mitch was the best when a joke bombed. If you listen to this you will find that out. I think he purposely put bombs in his act just for that very reason. I miss you Mitch. Hope you'll be telling me jokes in Heaven.

5 out of 5 stars I just found out he died........2007-03-12

It's a shock, and a disappointment. If he was alive a little bit longer,he could've been huge.He had all the qualities I love in my favorite comedians, but did it his own way.You never heard anything like him.People try to compare him to Seinfeld and Stephen Wright, but I think that really discredits him.He was of his own genre.I mean who couldn't laugh at the imagery he created?Imagery is something many comedians fail in doing well...but Mitch gets it just right. If you like the sound samples amazon gives you, you'll love the full package.

5 out of 5 stars Tragedy & Comedy perfectly entwined.......2007-02-18

This man is the comedy equivalent of Eva Cassidy, the beautiful songstress for whom international success came posthumously. The joy of listening to this genius of the fractured joke was revealed to me on a trip to the US in 2006, when my buddy played me his copy of SGL, the forerunner to MAT's gleamingly polished performance. I was pulled up short when I was told that Mitch had died some time before and feel that he was cheated of a more international following, as we were cheated out of enjoying his company for a few decades more.

If you can suspend the sentiment (which I can't) then this CD contains a brilliantly funny and very original collection of bizarre, but completely understandable, observations on life, love, consumer products and the purpose of sesame seeds.

Those of us who have heard you Mitch, we'll be spreading the word across different continents to make sure the world gets a chance to laugh with you and your friends. But how you'll be missed Mitch, how sadly you'll be missed.

5 out of 5 stars Mitch Hedburg - Randomness at its best!.......2007-02-10

I must admit, I absolutely love the completely random one-liners and the laid-back cadence with which Mitch delivers his routines. This CD/DVD set was especially satisfying b/c the DVD does not contain the same material as the CD, and it has an uncut version of his Comedy Central special which included some of his jokes I'd never heard (I saw him live 3 times). If you've never listened to Mitch before, watch the DVD first to get an idea of what his routines are like.

Pop has a good time eating itself on this collection of Doctor Demento favorites. The tunes on this stylistically varied double CD send up a plethora of pop culture phenomena. The perpetrators come from every imaginable entertainment background. Pro wrestlers, folk singers, comedians, actors, garage bands--you never know who's liable to produce a novelty song. Here it doesn't matter if a respected composer or a one-hit wonder recorded the ditty; all sorts of tracks jostle each other on this funny collection. The material covers quite a time span, ranging from Spike Jones's "Der Fuehrer's Face," released in 1942, to "Wappin'," an unreleased track by Darrell Hammond and Christopher Snell which was a hit on Demento's radio show at the tail end of the 1980s. The 20th Anniversary Collection is quite an assortment of the corny, goofy, wacky, and wild. --Fred Cisterna

4 out of 5 stars Why Does Music Have To Be So Seroius?.......2007-06-27

This album is just plain fun. It's great to have a nice collection of novelty songs to sprinkle in during a party or when making compilation discs for long drives or just and evening of fun with some friends.

Dr. Demento's collection surely won't be one of those precious "desert island" albums, those must have albums one would never be caught without, but in the context of a complete collection, it's good to have a few laughs here and there.

You'd really have to be a baby-boomer to appreciate the full context of this album as many are from the before the 1970's, still have some fun, why not?

4 out of 5 stars Lots of fun.......2007-06-27

My son suggested this as a birthday gift to his older sister, from him to her - I think I've listened to it more than either of them.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect.......2007-05-19

I've been looking for some of these songs for a loooong time. Not only do I get to relive my adolescence, but I'm able to introduce my daughter (who shares my sense of humor) to some of my old favorites (G rated, of course)

5 out of 5 stars A "Must-Have" For Dr. Demento Lovers.......2007-04-20

Unbeknownst to my conservative mother, my brother and I (born in the late 60's) listened to a wonderful radio program called "Dr. Demento" growing up. I told my mother about that recently, and her remark was that if she had known it was on the radio, she wouldn't have let us listen to it! LOL Anyhow, this collection has the vast majority of MY old favorites, such as the otherwise unavailable "Existential Blues", and many others unfamiliar to me to enjoy. It comes in two CD's of 18 songs each. I have happily imported it into my iPod and can't wait to hear everything!

5 out of 5 stars The funniest CDs ever!.......2007-03-08

I used to have this CD collection back in college, and something recently reminded me of a song and I knew exactly where to buy it. I am very pleased with this collection of songs.

Amazon.com essential recording

Opera is in fashion, and the woods are full of pop vocalists who think they have the chops to sing arias. The best contender so far is Andrea Bocelli, who at least has a real voice, if a small one, and sometimes manages a really exciting tenor sound. Unfortunately, he is inconsistent in his tone and production, and, despite the fact that he's singing in his native language, he often sounds as though he has only the barest idea of what the words mean. The Moscow Radio Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Vladimir Fedoseyev, plays stodgily. Anyone with a real interest in tenor arias would be much better advised to check out recordings by the young Luciano Pavarotti. --Sarah Bryan Miller

5 out of 5 stars A Marvelous Performance of Adeste Fideles.......2006-11-13

Andrea Bocelli sings magnificently on this CD. Never have I heard Adeste Fidelis sung with such energy, joy, and understanding.

5 out of 5 stars Bocelli never disappoints!.......2006-07-07

I hate to admit it but it has only been fairly recent that I "discovered" Andrea Bocelli, when he appeared on Oprah Winfrey(or was it Dr. Phil?), and American Idol. His voice mezmorized and touched me so much that I HAD to find out more. Over the last few weeks I have purchased apx. 6 of his CD's, and I can honestly say I love them all, including this one. Bocelli does not disappoint, and it doesnt seem to matter if he is singing in french, english, spanish or italian...as the purity, honesty and richness of his voice goes above and beyond various cultures and ethnicities. From a technical level, there are other well-knows (past and present) who are equal to or above Bocelli. However, what makes Andrea stand alone is a certain something that is hard to place your finger on, or put in to words, but all who appreciate him SEE and FEEL this. Some say he sings like an angel, or if God had a voice, it would sound like Bocelli. My own hypothesis is that Bocelli sings with his heart because his eyes cannot see the words. As such, along with his beautiful vocals pours forth his very spirit. It is this very essense that makes him so unique, and has caused so many people from all around the world to love him.

1 out of 5 stars Worst C.D Ever...But still a great artist.......2006-06-22

Reviewed By D. J.P Vergaleto

I just had to write this review. I recently purchesed 3 Bocelli C.Ds and was rewarded with 1 Very good , 1 not bad, n this one that STINKS...IF THE REVIEWERS WERE HONEST I COULD HAVE SAVED SOME MONEY.... I buy a lot from Amazon, ITs a great site, and 99 percent of the time when i read reviews they are on the money and help me out a great deal....With that said

Let me say that this cd entices you with all the big name italian songs, BUT DONT LET IT FOOL YOU..It sounds like it was made in 1 day. Who ever mixed the album has Bocellis voice so loud it sounds like he is SCREAMING ( I THINK HE IS) AND the
orchestra sounds like it is made of 3 pieces as you can only faintly hear it. There is not 1 song on this C.D ID recommend.

But dont worry , if you like Bocelli and dont know what to buy
let me tell you that I Enjoyed (Cieli Di Toscana) The first song Melodramma Rivals Bocellis Con Te Partiro Which is on his ROMANZA C.D AND HIGHLY Recomended, Also Sogno is Another very good C.D. So save yourself money and stay away from this one.
Also his Verdi CD IS VERY well made, not as strong a voice as Caruso , but once you hear Bocelli you wont care. Great Great voice that is very Hypnotic and when you hear him you wont care if he is as good as Caruso because he is Different , totally different and there both great Tenors. Peace

4 out of 5 stars the Perry Como of operatic tenors.......2006-03-25

I found this to be a wonderful cd. This was my first sustained exposure to Mr. Bocelli's art (I first heard his wonderful singing on the Charlotte Church cd "Time To Say Goodbye" -- also strongly recommended) and, on the whole, I enjoyed his singing very much. I also love Perry Como so the comparison above is not meant to be disparaging in any way, but merely to indicate that he's perhaps better in slower tempo pieces where the line of the melody naturally accentuates the richness of his voice. But if anyone doubts his chops, the first selection on this cd should put those doubts to rest -- his rendition of Puccini's "Nessun dorma" is both powerful and dramatic and stands up (dare I say it?) even to Pavarotti's.

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely lovely!.......2006-02-25

Even though it was Andre Bocelli's Romanza CD that introduced me to his wonderful voice, I have to admit that I enjoy his opera offerings more than his popular works. I still enjoy Romanza and his other pop CD's, but it is his opera selections that seem to show the full beauty of his voice.

I am not an opera expert by any means, so I don't get hung up on whether or not someone is techically perfect or not. If I like it, that's good enough for me!

My teenage sons and I were in a pizza place the other day and above the noise, I heard a beautiful song- a male singer- and was shushing the boys, trying to determine who it was. With great patience, my 17 year old son said, "Mom, that's Andre Bocelli. Can't you tell?"

Enough said.

4 out of 5 stars another classic firesign theatre.......2007-07-09

If you are not familiar with these guys, they are a irrational comedy group that played on the radio in the late sixties(?) Therefore they lend themselves well to audio cd. You got to imagine these guys were smoking the good stuff when they wrote these albums. It takes a little concentration to catch all that is going on, but it absolutley hilarious and well written and performed. If you like this one, order the others...have an adult beverage or two or whatever and temporarily enter the world of firesign theatre. You'll want to share with your friends.

5 out of 5 stars Masters of Their Universal Whatchamacallit !.......2007-04-25

Dear Friends, in the long time ago a quad of superior beings from the Dogstar left their humor, in the form of
insight, funny names, scatological jokes and drug references on vinyl in an abandoned auto in East LA. This is
not that collection.

This is a magical journey through American history, F Scott Fitzgerald, Jack Poetland and Raymond Chandler-
on acid. It is addictive, it is tobacco, it is powerful comedy that will infest your dreams, your speech patterns
and make your common-law family members consider you "weird!".

Beware but taste the rapture. This is Book 2, Sides 3 & 4 of the Book of Firesign-CONSUME !

4 out of 5 stars I like this record as much as my dad did........2007-02-03

When I was a child, my father and his brother used to listen to this record all the time. I thought it was sort of amusing then, but he insisted that it would be much funnier when I got older, and that it got funnier to him every time he heard it.

I didn't understand that logic then. I get it now.

On the surface, "How Can You Be Two Places At Once" is genuinely funny comedy, but with every additional listen, it actually gets funnier. Their are subtle jokes laced within jokes throughout the record, my favorite of which is a pizza order attempt in one skit that is tied into the Nick Danger piece later on.

Also, "The Further Adventures of Nick Danger," the longest installment of this character on record, is over 12 minutes of absolute rediculousness, in the best possible way.

Although some bits are less funny for those such as myself, who weren't alive when it was recorded, it is an excellent buy. I recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars Clever and intellegent........2006-07-17

This is one of the group's best efforts. The Nick Danger Skit IMHO is a classic. Also is Ralph's Spoiled Sport Motors.

Firesign Theatre makes you believe that "zany" is the color of modern life. This album is a brilliant and funny mix of overlapping realities (much like life). I heard it 30 years ago and it's just as bizarre and entertaining today.

This is one of the best comedy albums of all time. I must have listened to this at least 100 times. It has CLASSIC CLASSIC stuff like Tool Booth Willie, The Baffoon skits, the beatings of teachers....its just aweome. And of course...who could forget that it had LUNCHLADY LAND on it! Its worth buying the album just for that one song.

1 out of 5 stars They're All Gonna Want Their Money Back.......2006-03-31

Fortunately, I got this so-called "comedy" album used, so I
can't complain to much about the rip-off. Who is Sandler trying
to amuse here? As an adult, I found this series of bits to
be pointless and more offensive than funny. Also, should anyone
under 16 be listening to this nonsense? I like Sandler in
most of his movies and on SNL. By trying for shock comedy,
I think he loses a lot of his likability. Some say this is
Sandler's funniest album. I'm not sure I want to ever meet
such a person.

5 out of 5 stars I can't stop laughing.......2006-03-02

Adam Sandler is one of the funniest men to ever live!!!

5 out of 5 stars I'm Coming Out of the Boooooth.......2005-11-02

Adam Sandler was the best reason to watch Saturday Night Live for me in the post-Dana Carvey era. The best was whenever he'd show up at the Weekend Update desk to sing his silly little songs. Then I was introduced to his first comedy album, ironically at church camp. Sandler's They're All Gonna Laugh at You had us on the floor all weekend and is still good for a laugh today.

The album starts off modest enough with Assistant Principal's Big Day as the namesake in the title making some new rules as regulating smoking. Of course this takes a turn for the worse as me matter of factly orders the girls shower into his office which then disturbingly includes the men's gymnastics team. And the album rarely slows down from there and really earns his Parental Advisory sticker as if any good parent would let his or her child listen to this.

Next we are introduced to the Buffoon who shows up multiple times throughout the album as he makes outrageous statements like telling his Dean of Admissions, played by Conan O'Brien, "I bet you got really hairy (expletive deleted)," only for the person he's talking to, such as the Valedictorian, respond to the Buffoon in almost scientifically. The best of the Buffoon's statement was when he told his girlfriend, "My dog has a four inch (expletive deleted)."

Another theme on the album is the severe beating of various high school employees such as the janitor, bus driver, science teacher, and Spanish teacher. These all got multiple spins when I was in high school in particular the Spanish teacher because, even though I too French, it was nice to see a foreign language teacher be taking down and try to get out of her beating by saying things such as "Me casa, su casa." And to this day, I still sing "Mop, mop, mop, all day long..." whenever I clean stuff.

There are a couple of missteps on the album as I find nothing funny in a dude taking a monster piss and the mother repeating the album title repeatedly during Oh Mom... get tired quickly. And hearing the dial tone go on forever during Mr. Spindel's Phone Call gets annoying. But none of these skits drag down the album too much.

The best parts of the album are the songs. There was the previously mentioned Thanksgiving Song was originally conceived for SNL. There's also Lunchlady Land that was brought to life hysterically by Chris Farley. But the best of the best would have to be At a Medium Pace that starts out as a cheesy Michael Bolton type love song with lyrics like "Put your arms around me baby, can't you see I need you so." But that quickly changes as he order's his lover to "Spit on your hand and stroke my (expletive deleted) at a medium pace. This build up to a crescendo until he again requests "Now pull up my (expletive deleted) and take the shampoo bottle out of my (expletive deleted)." If you ever want some extra hilarity, perform the song yourself as if you were reading from a Shakespearian play.

To this day, the album is still very quote worthy as I still say "You suck" like it was performed in The Cheerleader and still look for appropriate times to say "I'm coming out of the booooooth." And whenever I play with drunken idiots I always pull out, "Look at my hand, it's moving, but it's not moving." Sandler also brought in an all-star voice talent to help him out. Aside from O'Brien, there are other SNL alums such as Rob Schneider, David Spade, Tim Meadows, and Robert Smigel.

5 out of 5 stars From one Bozo to another.......2007-05-15

I heard this one back in 1977 - 78. It brings back a lot of great memories. At that time, the use of Stereo and special sound effects is what made Firesign Theatre so unique and funny. You can close your eyes and be right in the middle of the action. I recommed it to help relief some stress.

4 out of 5 stars Fudd's Law.......2006-10-19

The first side/track of this album is hilarious, but it starts to slacken a little on side/track 2, because the material is more suited to visual than aural presentation. Recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Stuck in my head.......2005-09-12

I don't think I've heard this album from top to bottom in 20 years but barely a week goes by when some line or other from it doesn't pass through my head and often out my mouth without my even realizing the source. Firesign's take on the "Brave New World" future was--like nearly everything they've done--a bit too accurate as prophesy. The world we live in today, from Bush to Wal-Mart to Prozac to what today is the anniversary of, comes straight out of this album and it's a wonder back then that more of us didn't see this as inevitable. This work predates a movie actor as President by many years; Arnold as governor of California was a foregone conclusion to these guys in 1970; Most cable TV and film look like Firesign pieces.

Some smart arse once said that in decadent and declining times the only job left for intelligent people to do is satire. No, this album isn't a laugh riot, and it's not intended to be. It's a very humorous, witty, and often brilliant commentary on the end of an era. This group will be remembered in the distant future as one of the best chroniclers of the Fall.

4 out of 5 stars Standard Firesign Fare.......2005-08-04

Probably the geekiest of the Firesign material I've listened to. The story line has a futuristic setting, so computers, holograms and such play a role. While not quite up to pare with "Everything you know is wrong", its interesting and should be part of every Firesign fan's collection.

4 out of 5 stars Fourth Firesign album.......2004-11-15

Most Firesign albums, and especially this one, are layer-ed and require multiple listenings to actually understand the plot. I cannot agree more with the reviewer who said that their albums play out like movies.

I tried this album out on a friend yesterday. I tried to get him into Monty Python by buying him their albums 2-4. I t didn't really work. Then I tried Cheech and Chong because who doesn't understand their plots. That pretty much worked. Then I tried this album. We listened to 7 minutes of the first side and all of side two. He didn't really laugh much, and being a 14 year old, and not to mature, he stop really paying attention. Maybe I should just give up.

As for the album, it's pretty confusing the first time (like all the Firesign work) but overall the 2nd side is much better than the first. Ther first one isn't really trying to be funny, but I use some of the computer- President's ramblings for my away messages. Ovrall, not as good as the first 3 but right behind them. Now, I have to get "EYKIW".

As America's preeminent inheritor of Lenny Bruce's singular comic legacy, George Carlin has long been the dangerous comic it's safe to love. But as America itself has co-opted the "free expression" Carlin holds so dear, he has become a foot soldier without a battlefield. Sadly, Carlin's new album You Are All Diseased--culled from his 1998 HBO special--finds him crossing the line into near-total social impotence. His take on such "cutting edge" topics as airport security, cigar smoking, and the Clinton-Lewinsky affair couldn't get a rise out of a factious prison inmate, and his failure to find subversion in subtlety is more obvious than ever. Carlin's riffs on religion and terrorism are sloppy, valuing hollow extremity over the cutting observation that characterized 1996's Back in Town album. There are a few classic lines here--"If white people are gonna burn down black churches, then black people oughta burn down the House of Blues"--but more often than not, this grumpy old man sounds like a certain Dana Carvey character of the same disposition. Where's the danger in that? --Matt Hanks

5 out of 5 stars The Best Work From A Brilliant Comic.......2007-03-08

This was made when George was at his peak. From the hilarious tale of making an entire state a prison to the ridiculous airport security (pre-9/11). George is the most brilliant comic out there. His delivery is pin-point accurate and his political musings make a lot of sense. He is the man with a lot of time on his hands who reminds us of things we have no time to normally think about!

5 out of 5 stars george carlin is funny.......2007-01-10

even though he is funny he is basically a cd on repeat its been the same stuff since the 70's and its kinda getting old

5 out of 5 stars Pure genius.......2006-12-21

Thank goodness there are people like Carlin in the world who can go against the majority. I imagine the only people giving this CD a bad review are those who prefer to bury their heads in the sand and dismiss all unpleasant thoughts. Carlin is not always trying to be "funny", he provokes actual thought. Wow what a concept. This albumn is both hilarious and intelligent, if you just want to sit there and laugh without any use of your brain go watch Chris Farley and stop pretending to be a "life-long" fan of Carlin.

1 out of 5 stars What Happened George???.......2006-11-10

Recently I was feeling nostalgic and picked up a copy of Class Clown which came out in 1972. This was a witty and intelligent George Carlin. Yes he pointed out some of the hypocrisy of the times, the war, religion, business. But it wasn't mean spirited, move ahead 27 years to this mess. I admit I haven't really kept up with George's career in recent years, so hearing this was really a shock for me. I'm not offended by the "F" word but he uses it so much here it loses it's effect and is just plain lazy. But worse than that was the overall tone of his act. In the past George would cleverly and amusingly point out the hypocrisy of modern life. Here he just slams it in your face. He hates everything about America, which I find to be hypocritical on his part, after all he benefits nicely from the American Free Enterprise system he likes to bash. I'm sure he's not returning the money he makes from all his Albums, HBO Specials, etc. The sad part is he does have some good observations like the way we pander to today's kids, but it gets lost in all the screaming and cursing. The problem with George today is he hates everything, and has thrown out the baby with the bathwater, you can no longer laugh with him because you are part of the problem.

5 out of 5 stars THE BEST COMEDY CD EVER CREATED.......2006-04-16

I have never laughed as hard or as often during any other CD than I have during this one. No cd has ever been as thought provoking either. From ripping on religion, to cigar smokers to over protective parents, this CD to me is the crown jewel in the George Carlin collection, every single track is funny, and the airport security track could almost be considered foreshadowing since this came out in 1998-99 and almost everything he says in the track ended up happening after 9/11. To me, that is sufficient proof that no one else is more qualified to comment on American Life than the greatest comic of all time, Mr. Carlin

A vibrant tribute to MGM's legendary confluence of brains, talent, hard work, ambition--and dare we say it?--massive egos, Singin' in the Rain long ago took its rightful place among the first rank of the studio's dizzying catalog of film musicals. This double-disc, 46-track 50th-anniversary edition features all of the film's familiar songs, as well as numerous outtakes and extended versions, many culled directly from the film's original recording masters. Its second disc also chronicles the film's clever--if studio imposed--self-referential musical gambit of recycling a slate of Arthur Freed/Nacio Herb Brown songs from Metro's first decade by including 14 of the originals, including performances by Jeanette McDonald, Judy Garland, Mickey Rooney, and Freed himself. Featuring a dozen previously unreleased recordings and an illustrated booklet containing the insightful reminiscences of the film's original writers, Betty Comden and Adolph Green, it's the ultimate musical companion to one of cinema's magical, enduring masterpieces. --Jerry McCulley

5 out of 5 stars the perfect movie.......2007-03-10

My old Gene did it: the perfect movie, the perfect american history, the perfect music. Some people think musicals are "B" movies. I say them: look about the dream, the performance, the music.
Who can say what is beatiful? Look at faces of Gene and Stan during the shooting on the set: whole concentration and attention for everything.
This is a unique moment in their story, and in the story of cinema.
Unforgettable.

5 out of 5 stars I LOVE MY FAVORITE SONG, AND THANKS TO THIS CD I CAN LISTEN TO IT ALL DAY LONG!!.......2007-01-28

I love Singin' in the Rain. It was the movie that made me like musicals, not those simple, mellow movies like South Pacific and the Sound of Music, but REAL musicals, with people like Fred Astaire or Eleanor Powell tapping their hearts out, or great singers like Frances Langford or Dick Powell putting over a song like they mean it.The Singin' in the Rain 2disc special edition introduced me to my favorite movie, the Broadway Melody of 1936, the MOST AMAZING MOVIE EVER! So I was so glad when my parents got me the soundtrack to Singin' in the Rain, and besides the music of the 1951 versions of the Nacio Herb Brown/Arthur Freed, there are also the original versions of the songs in their original movies. I am so glad that Rhino put the duet of Robert Taylor and June Knight singing I've Got a Feelin' You're Foolin' on this CD set! It's my favorite song, and now I can listen to it! Hooray!! It's the best song EVER!! There's also vocals of Charles King singing the Broadway Melody, which is great! And many more, like Bing Crosby, Frances Langford, Jeanette MacDonald, and other great singers I can't think of right now. This CD set is great, the sound is nice and un-staticy (mostly), there are 30-plus songs, and the price is phenomenal. I love my favorite song, and now I can listen to it all day long!! Yay! :)

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful Soundtrack to a Wonderful Movie.......2006-06-16

Yes, this is it--the first real musical I ever saw. Okay, I saw "Wizard of Oz" and "The Sound of Music", and I love both of those musicals dearly. I had even seen "My Fair Lady." I thought musicals were all like those. Until this one. I had never seen such dancing. And this CD causes me to relive the joy of the musical each time I listen to it. Complete with the tap sounds. I love that they included even the deleted songs. Now we just need a DVD that has all the deleted scenes in context. But the studio probably threw all those away. Oh well, our imaginations can take care of what is missing.

5 out of 5 stars Great CD.......2006-03-20

This is a great CD of music for your family to listen to. Our family enjoys it very much.

4 out of 5 stars musical memories.......2006-03-14

I enjoyed this CD very much, as I remember seeing the movie years ago. I grew up watching MGM musicals and this was one of the best. I loved all of the wonderful songs that came from this movie. Great sound on this CD.

5 out of 5 stars Early, youthful Rostropovich, who is 80 this year........2007-07-14

First the most important stuff: sound quality through out is very good to excellent.

These two CD's are two Westminster vinyl albums, one from 1953 and the other from 1954, with a short Paganini with no known recording history thrown in to extend these two CD's, which are "short in time" for CD's. The first CD runs under 45 minutes, but the double CD set is priced accordingly and is a bargain.
Several of the album cuts were never released on a CD before this set, which celebrates Rostopovich's 80th birthday, Of course they are all mono recordings. While listening to the music you will never miss the stereo, as the high sound quality through out permits Rostropovich to shine.
Westminster was the best vinyl source for anything Russian classical way back when, only to be, perhaps, out done by the recent Yedang CD's.
These performances show a young developing celloist, already a master of the cello...exubriant and at the same time..warm and moving ..quite suprising and most rewarding.
Mistislav is my favorite celloist. If he touches you, I recommend these early satisfying recordings.
5 stars for the recordings, 4 stars for the compilation.

This collection of great 20th century speeches is quite inspiring. From speeches focused on civil rights to great dreams of going to the moon, to great battles against evil empires, this collection transcends politics to demonstrate how some of America's great leaders have used their speaking skills to change the world. I especially recommend this CD for someone worried about delivering speeches; it should enhance your confidence to see how some of the masters did it.
