there is nothing like the original miami vice.....love it...
Almost half the tracks on here are instrumental, but all of them are great. Most people probably bought this CD for the first track (The Original Miami Vice Theme). "Miami Vice" is an extended remix of the original theme and is also good. "Evan" and "Flashback" are softer tunes, which are also enjoyable. But so that one doesn't get to relaxed, "Chase" is set between them and this tune really moves.
The vocal tracks are some classic tunes, as a number of them can be found on other CD's. "In the Air Tonight" is one of Phil Collins' best tunes. It was even remade for the new Miami Vice Move soundtrack. "Smuggler's Blues" & "You Belong to the City" speak clearly about the life portrayed in the Miami Vice series.
"Vice" is rap song, which can teach you one of two things. It's either a prerequisite on what you will deal with as a cop or a it's crash-course for the aspiring gangsta. "Own The Night" is a decent song, but not my favorite. I'm not a big fan of Better Be Good To Me, but liking all but 1 track on a CD is probably a rarity for most people, as I know it is for me.
Few soundtracks have lasted the way this one has. It is a must for the 80's music fan.
The story was actually based on PYGMALION, by the late, great playwright, George Bernard Shaw, inspired by Greek mythology. In the original Greek play, Pygmalion is the sculptor who creates a depiction of a woman, out of ivory, and falls in love with it. He prays to Venus, and then his sculpture is brought to life, as Galatea. In the musical, the gist is similar but the journey and characters veer from this concept considerably. For starters, no one starts out as a piece of stone--especially not Eliza Doolittle. She has definite opinions and a distinctive personality (saucy language and all), that Dr. Doolittle is very keen on shaping up for society. The music is perfectly in synch with the mood of this great play, which is in some ways a true parable about human behavior and the treatment of women in society. Some of the most beautiful music by Lerner and Loewe is featured here. The songs include "Wouldn't It Be Loverly," "I've Grown Accustomed To Her Face," and "Get Me to the Church On Time." This is brilliant. Buy this today! I am not sure how great the sound quality is on audio cassette, in comparison to the original recording on vinyl that I heard, as a little girl. I have a feeling it's pretty spectacular though!
It's amazing listening to Ms. Nixon in The King & I; she is much closer to Deborah Kerr's voice and they sounded more natural between speaking and singing but that was the clinker for me. I realized the distance between Ms. Hepburn and Ms. Nixon in the movie version - so I went back to square one and GOT THE ORIGINAL.
You have to hand it to Goddard Leiberman (head of Columbia years ago and protege of Fanny Brice) for starting the tradition of recording Original Broadway Cast 'albums' at the time they opened.
Finally listening to Julie Andrews sing the most popular songs from one of the best shows ever penned almost made me cry. You can tell she's riding the crest of the wave - she literally soars, defying gravity. Her diction, as always, is perfect but she's perfect as the brash cockney flower girl, a young girl on an adventure and a refinded lady. I will always be grateful to Marnie Nixon for the work she did for the film but once you listen to original Eliza Doolittle you will realize there is only ONE and that ONE is JULIE ANDREWS.
Yes, her leading man is also good. One surprise however was Stanley Holloway - it was a shock to realizae that it was about ten years between the show and the film and he does sound ten years younger. The man is a delight at any age, it's not important, it just adds to the fun.
If you really like the show, and the songs, treat yourself and get the Original Broadway Cast - the cast hit the studio at the peak of their form with a solid hit under their belt and that confidence sets this recording light years ahead of any other recording.
Now if it were in stero that would make it a 5 star review.
Miami Vice II: New Music From The Television series "Miami Vice" was the second of its kind. Rather confusingly, Miami Vice II covers songs from both the show's second and third season, not just the second, as the title seems to suggest. Rather, the "II" designates it as the second soundtrack. Complicating matters more is the fact that the VHS for the second season opener is also called "Miami Vice II", and this album would seem to be the accompanying soundtrack. It actually does include some songs from the two-hour second season premiere episode, but it goes beyond that as well.
Miami Vice II opens perfectly with the whispery, shadowy "Mercy" by former Sex Pistols(!) guitarist Steve Jones. Serious and moody, the song is the musical equivalent of the visual shift to darker colors in the show at the time of this album's release. It's a great opener for the album and a great song as well. It appeared in the third season episode "Stone's War".
The next track is "Send It To Me" by Gladys Knight and the Pips. Unlike "Mercy", which appeared on another additional album apart from Vice II (Jones's 1987 solo debut), "Send It To Me" is unique to this album. Interestingly, it is never heard in the series. "Send It To Me" is a bit brighter than the first song and eases you into the album more. But it is no less slick; the smooth, synth-laced pop-R&B trappings are also one of the song's strengths. A 12" single included an extended version, an acapella, and an instrumental of the song.
"Take Me Home" follows, and, honestly, no description can do justice to this song. Abstract, rhythmic, lulling, melodic, and hypnotic, it is Phil's pinnacle achievement. At the time, Phil Collins was on top of the world. Having used his all-time classic "In the Air Tonight" for the first soundtrack, it only seemed right to have another Collins song used in the series appear on the second soundtrack. "Take Me Home" was used for the ending of the second season two-hour premiere "The Prodigal Son" in a sequence fans will remember fondly.
"The Last Unbroken Heart" may make some cringe, but this emotional roller-coaster of a love-ballad duet should speak clear to anyone who has a heart. Two powerful voices - Patti Labelle and Bill Champlin's - take turns singing the verses, then join for the all-out chorus, which has Champlin screaming at ont point. Also unique to the album. From the memorable third season premiere episode "When Irish Eyes Are Crying". The episode featured a different, partially instrumental version.
"Crockett's Theme" by the brilliant Jan Hammer makes its debut here. Hammer scored the series and, in keeping with the tradition of the first soundtrack, again supplies some songs inspired by the music he composed for the series. I say "inspired" because Hammer, ever the professional, believes in crafting his sounds to a radio-ready format, so that each of his tracks feel polished and integrate into the album well. Therefore most of contributions to the soundtracks are not what you heard on television, rather, they are redone as singles. And they work astoundingly well. "Crockett's Theme" might be the most brilliant instrumental created for a character, surprassing Harold Faltermeyer's stiff and dated Axel F. It works so well without words. It's sexy. It might be the best track on the album; it's certainly the coolest. Perfectly fitting the character Sonny Crockett.
"When The Rain Comes Down" is another track unique to Miami Vice II. This uptempo, fast-paced rocker brings some needed energy into the album midway through. Done by Andy Taylor, who released his own solo effort apart from Duran Duran shortly after. This song was featured in the third season episode "Stone's War". A rare 45 includes an extended version (by a minute).
"Lover" must have pleased Roxy Music fans and non-fans alike; fans because it had never been released on compact disc until this album, as it is an extremely rare track and non-fans because it is a great song. Dreamy, mellow, and wandering, Bryan Ferry's fluttery vocals make it all the more sweet and memorable. Though not unique to Miami Vice II anymore (it also appears on Roxy's Thrill Of It All), it did not appear anywhere in the series. It's also the oldest song here: copyright 1982.
Another 70s punk-turned-slick 80s AOR act, The Damned, turn in "In Dulce Decorum", which blends a great riff, big harmonies, sparse, soaring vocals and a complex, layered sound. It's quite different from the other selections, but it's a great song and works well nevertheless. Interestingly, the song featured in the third season episode "Walk Alone" is a vocalized version, which would make this here an instrumental version.
Jackson Browne's "Lives In The Balance" accomplishes quite a feat: it serves both a melodically haunting sound and a powerful political statement. Browne questions America's involvement in foreign wars, wars that are decided by people far removed from those who fight it. Browne's story-telling lyrics and impassioned vocals bring the material to life. It could easily apply to today's world. The only political song here, it doesn't feel awkward thanks to the Jan Hammer-like pan flutes and overall tense, mysterious feel. Appeared in the third season episode "Stone's War".
The last two tracks are additional instrumentals by show composer Jan Hammer. "Miami Vice: New York Theme" is a chaotic, energetic dance-like theme to hail the arrival of Crockett and Tubbs in New York City from the episode "The Prodigal Son". There's a lot of stuff going on, but it's Hammer and it's another great, fun track. Listen for the abrupt shift at the end. That final part is part of a longer, unreleased theme from that episode. It's a nice touch to include it. The second Hammer track and final track on the soundtrack is the original, 60 second Miami Vice Theme used for the opening credits of the tv show. This is probably the greatest TV theme ever. It is certainly the most brilliant.
Miami Vice II is filled with lush, sleek, polished, mainstream 80s pop-rock. What makes it such a terrific listen time and again are the selections and the order of the selections: all of them to flow in unison to some hidden, undercurrent of cool, yet they are all strong and unique enough to stand on their own. And that is the making of a great soundtrack album.
In comparison with the first soundtrack, this one is more interesting and enjoyable. The first soundtrack was more gritty and slightly tacky. This one is all class, first-class all the way. The soundtrack producers succeeded: it's cooler. And that's hard to top in the world of "Miami Vice".
To be honest, serious fans of the show may be disappointed; especially when looking back, it feels as if something more could have been included, considering how many other fine songs were featured in Miami Vice that were never released on the soundtracks (or never released at all) but could have been here. Especially frustrating are the Jan Hammer selections. Two of the three of them were released on other albums around the same time. Considering the myriad of gorgeous mini-themes Hammer created for exclusively for the show, it's a little bit of a let-down several additional new tracks were not included.
That said, fans of 80s pop-rock in general who are not necessarily into the show will find a lot to enjoy here, and they will find themselves coming back to Miami Vice II over and over. It may not be for everyone, but it is certainly the finest of its genre and perhaps of its era too.
Note there are three different versions of this CD. Two are North American releases with differing cover poses, and the third is a German release with a different rear insert design. All have the same song content.
Those who love Bill's Telecaster ripping through a brace of dieselbilly and rockabilly tunes may be disappointed with this album. There's still plenty of great guitar work here but the emphasis is more on presenting well-crafted songs that will stand the test of time. If you are lover of fine roots music then this album will be gracing your "turntable" for a long, long time.
Well done, Proper Records (responsible for those fine, value-for-money box-sets of older roots music) for giving Bill Kirchen the chance to realise his vision and for fans to truly appreciate one of music's lasting gems.
It's just ironic that the CD actually referencing "Honky Tonk" and featuring pix of Bill's axe, seems less full of honk and tonk and less of of a guitar chop show case...
Anyway, I've listened to this CD once so far and I was very impressed. The music really is enjoyable on its own, and I found myself listening to the Cold Lazerus music twice before I continued throught the rest of the CD.
Finally, don't think there isn't much music on this CD because of the small nunber of tracks. Many of these tracks are six to ten minutes long.
A fan of the TV show should be pleasantly surprised by the suites in this CD. It won't disapoint.
I personally enjoyed the CD, as I could relate the music back to the particular episodes in which they appeared. Some of the tracks are sweet and melodic, others are more ominious, so it doesn't come up short on variety.
The music sounds, for the most part, rather sythesised (which is why, if you are used to sprawling epic soundtracks from mainstram movies, I generally don't recommend this if you have never watched the show). Tracks are usually a mixture of synthesised sounds combined with more organic notes from traditional instruments, creating a very "sci fi" sound.
This is a great CD to work and study to as it provides great background music without being too intrusive.
I can't front. Hammer did sellout some on "Don't Hurt'em" but compared to rap artists of today, he still had respect for himself and his people. He really put his whole hood on the payroll and he never sold garbage and self destructive images to his people. Now that's gangsta!
It is because of MC Hammer that rappers are living in multi-million dollar mansions and driving around in Bentleys while their fans ride the bus. MC Hammer made Rap mainstream and acceptable. And it's this acceptability that has provided grand profit for all those involved--whether it be rappers or those behind the scene. You can preach about selling out, but the fact remains, if it weren't for making mainstream music, there would be no wealth attached.
Hammer was criticized for making rap accessible. He was criticized for making Pop Rap. He was criticized for doing commercials. He was criticized for dancing. He was criticized for keeping his music clean from vulgarity and misogyny. He was criticized for actually wanting to make a good living doing what he was doing. He was criticized for wanting to make Rap fun. He was criticized for starting a clothing line. He was critcized for acting. And he was criticized for not making white people fear him. Now, every single rapper has done at least some of these things, and nobody is saying anything.
But I guess the thing that angers me most is the continuous picking by people who think rappers should adhere to stupid rules about what it means to have street cred. No other genre of music is subjected to so much illogical and lame brained "unwritten rules" about how to behave in order to be accepted.
Rappers should be thanking MC Hammer, not criticizing him. He made Rap fun and enjoyable; and he is one of the only rappers I have genuine respect for. Please Hammer, Don't Hurt Em provided some great rap music. Period!

I found it to be a very good selection overall, but I felt too much had already been heard on TV, which of course is what lots of newcomers to classical music might appreciate. I managed to find about 2 hours of tracks that I wanted to keep, which works out quite expensive per disc, but I did find some wonderful music I had completely forgotten about, so it was worth it. All in all, it represents good value, and I have only knocked one star off as so much of it had been used in adverts.
It is definitely a good introduction to classical music, and it has made me want to listen to more of it, so I don't regret this 'expensive' purchase one bit!
Classical Masterpieces of the Millennium [20 CD Set]
To criticize the set for not containing more composers, or more than just snippets of those who are in the set, is missing the point: it is a helpful introduction to finding your way in the huge maze of classical music. It succeeds admirably in this.
Sound quality is uniformly very good on an audiophile system.
Highly recommended.

This recording was produced more than 40 years ago, only in mono, but from the day it was released it was a deserved phenomenon. It out-grossed the mega-hit show for months, and it still holds the record for the most weeks as a Billboard Top 40 album: 292. The reasons are many. Start with the 20-year-old Julie Andrews in peak voice, singing no fewer than eight sensational Lerner and Loewe songs, soaring most memorably to high C in "I Could Have Danced All Night." Rex Harrison perfected the art of talk-singing in a clutch of equally captivating numbers written especially for his voice, of which the most indelibly delivered is "I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face." And Stanley Holloway brought the best English music-hall style to an eager American audience with "A Little Bit of Luck" and "Get Me to the Church on Time." There were no scene-changers in Frederick Loewe's best score, and Alan Jay Lerner managed to fashion his libretto and lyrics so close to the language of George Bernard Shaw (on whose play Pygmalion the musical was based) that experts couldn't tell where Shaw left off and Lerner took over. Every song created character and advanced the plot. My Fair Lady was a show you "got"--and still get--on first listening--without having seen it. The London cast album (with the same leads) can give you stereo; the movie version, a fuller orchestra, Harrison and Holloway in full sail, and Marni Nixon dubbing Audrey Hepburn. Miami Vice II: New Music From The Television series "Miami Vice" was the second of its kind. Rather confusingly, Miami Vice II covers songs from both the show's second and third season, not just the second, as the title seems to suggest. Rather, the "II" designates it as the second soundtrack. Complicating matters more is the fact that the VHS for the second season opener is also called "Miami Vice II", and this album would seem to be the accompanying soundtrack. It actually does include some songs from the two-hour second season premiere episode, but it goes beyond that as well.
Miami Vice II opens perfectly with the whispery, shadowy "Mercy" by former Sex Pistols(!) guitarist Steve Jones. Serious and moody, the song is the musical equivalent of the visual shift to darker colors in the show at the time of this album's release. It's a great opener for the album and a great song as well. It appeared in the third season episode "Stone's War".
The next track is "Send It To Me" by Gladys Knight and the Pips. Unlike "Mercy", which appeared on another additional album apart from Vice II (Jones's 1987 solo debut), "Send It To Me" is unique to this album. Interestingly, it is never heard in the series. "Send It To Me" is a bit brighter than the first song and eases you into the album more. But it is no less slick; the smooth, synth-laced pop-R&B trappings are also one of the song's strengths. A 12" single included an extended version, an acapella, and an instrumental of the song.
"Take Me Home" follows, and, honestly, no description can do justice to this song. Abstract, rhythmic, lulling, melodic, and hypnotic, it is Phil's pinnacle achievement. At the time, Phil Collins was on top of the world. Having used his all-time classic "In the Air Tonight" for the first soundtrack, it only seemed right to have another Collins song used in the series appear on the second soundtrack. "Take Me Home" was used for the ending of the second season two-hour premiere "The Prodigal Son" in a sequence fans will remember fondly.
"The Last Unbroken Heart" may make some cringe, but this emotional roller-coaster of a love-ballad duet should speak clear to anyone who has a heart. Two powerful voices - Patti Labelle and Bill Champlin's - take turns singing the verses, then join for the all-out chorus, which has Champlin screaming at ont point. Also unique to the album. From the memorable third season premiere episode "When Irish Eyes Are Crying". The episode featured a different, partially instrumental version.
"Crockett's Theme" by the brilliant Jan Hammer makes its debut here. Hammer scored the series and, in keeping with the tradition of the first soundtrack, again supplies some songs inspired by the music he composed for the series. I say "inspired" because Hammer, ever the professional, believes in crafting his sounds to a radio-ready format, so that each of his tracks feel polished and integrate into the album well. Therefore most of contributions to the soundtracks are not what you heard on television, rather, they are redone as singles. And they work astoundingly well. "Crockett's Theme" might be the most brilliant instrumental created for a character, surprassing Harold Faltermeyer's stiff and dated Axel F. It works so well without words. It's sexy. It might be the best track on the album; it's certainly the coolest. Perfectly fitting the character Sonny Crockett.
"When The Rain Comes Down" is another track unique to Miami Vice II. This uptempo, fast-paced rocker brings some needed energy into the album midway through. Done by Andy Taylor, who released his own solo effort apart from Duran Duran shortly after. This song was featured in the third season episode "Stone's War". A rare 45 includes an extended version (by a minute).
"Lover" must have pleased Roxy Music fans and non-fans alike; fans because it had never been released on compact disc until this album, as it is an extremely rare track and non-fans because it is a great song. Dreamy, mellow, and wandering, Bryan Ferry's fluttery vocals make it all the more sweet and memorable. Though not unique to Miami Vice II anymore (it also appears on Roxy's Thrill Of It All), it did not appear anywhere in the series. It's also the oldest song here: copyright 1982.
Another 70s punk-turned-slick 80s AOR act, The Damned, turn in "In Dulce Decorum", which blends a great riff, big harmonies, sparse, soaring vocals and a complex, layered sound. It's quite different from the other selections, but it's a great song and works well nevertheless. Interestingly, the song featured in the third season episode "Walk Alone" is a vocalized version, which would make this here an instrumental version.
Jackson Browne's "Lives In The Balance" accomplishes quite a feat: it serves both a melodically haunting sound and a powerful political statement. Browne questions America's involvement in foreign wars, wars that are decided by people far removed from those who fight it. Browne's story-telling lyrics and impassioned vocals bring the material to life. It could easily apply to today's world. The only political song here, it doesn't feel awkward thanks to the Jan Hammer-like pan flutes and overall tense, mysterious feel. Appeared in the third season episode "Stone's War".
The last two tracks are additional instrumentals by show composer Jan Hammer. "Miami Vice: New York Theme" is a chaotic, energetic dance-like theme to hail the arrival of Crockett and Tubbs in New York City from the episode "The Prodigal Son". There's a lot of stuff going on, but it's Hammer and it's another great, fun track. Listen for the abrupt shift at the end. That final part is part of a longer, unreleased theme from that episode. It's a nice touch to include it. The second Hammer track and final track on the soundtrack is the original, 60 second Miami Vice Theme used for the opening credits of the tv show. This is probably the greatest TV theme ever. It is certainly the most brilliant.
Miami Vice II is filled with lush, sleek, polished, mainstream 80s pop-rock. What makes it such a terrific listen time and again are the selections and the order of the selections: all of them to flow in unison to some hidden, undercurrent of cool, yet they are all strong and unique enough to stand on their own. And that is the making of a great soundtrack album.
In comparison with the first soundtrack, this one is more interesting and enjoyable. The first soundtrack was more gritty and slightly tacky. This one is all class, first-class all the way. The soundtrack producers succeeded: it's cooler. And that's hard to top in the world of "Miami Vice".
To be honest, serious fans of the show may be disappointed; especially when looking back, it feels as if something more could have been included, considering how many other fine songs were featured in Miami Vice that were never released on the soundtracks (or never released at all) but could have been here. Especially frustrating are the Jan Hammer selections. Two of the three of them were released on other albums around the same time. Considering the myriad of gorgeous mini-themes Hammer created for exclusively for the show, it's a little bit of a let-down several additional new tracks were not included.
That said, fans of 80s pop-rock in general who are not necessarily into the show will find a lot to enjoy here, and they will find themselves coming back to Miami Vice II over and over. It may not be for everyone, but it is certainly the finest of its genre and perhaps of its era too.
Note there are three different versions of this CD. Two are North American releases with differing cover poses, and the third is a German release with a different rear insert design. All have the same song content.

A member of the band Heatmiser, Elliot Smith recorded home demos on any equipment he could get his hands on. His first "solo" album is a cheap four-track home recording that hints at the melodic possibilities Smith would explore in greater detail on subsequent releases. The title track is remarkable but with four songs referred to in sequential order as "No Name #1," "No Name #2," etc. ... the inspiration isn't always fully firing. Blessed with a quiet angelic voice and a lyrical mind that easily transforms the squalid details of everyday life into something worth hearing about twice, Smith stood on the verge of getting it on. Bill Kirchen has become widely known for the trademark big-rig guitar riffs that powered the Commander Cody hit "Hot Rod Lincoln" into the Top 10 in 1972. Those who love Bill's Telecaster ripping through a brace of dieselbilly and rockabilly tunes may be disappointed with this album. There's still plenty of great guitar work here but the emphasis is more on presenting well-crafted songs that will stand the test of time. If you are lover of fine roots music then this album will be gracing your "turntable" for a long, long time.
Well done, Proper Records (responsible for those fine, value-for-money box-sets of older roots music) for giving Bill Kirchen the chance to realise his vision and for fans to truly appreciate one of music's lasting gems.

Anyway, I've listened to this CD once so far and I was very impressed. The music really is enjoyable on its own, and I found myself listening to the Cold Lazerus music twice before I continued throught the rest of the CD.
Finally, don't think there isn't much music on this CD because of the small nunber of tracks. Many of these tracks are six to ten minutes long.

I personally enjoyed the CD, as I could relate the music back to the particular episodes in which they appeared. Some of the tracks are sweet and melodic, others are more ominious, so it doesn't come up short on variety.
The music sounds, for the most part, rather sythesised (which is why, if you are used to sprawling epic soundtracks from mainstram movies, I generally don't recommend this if you have never watched the show). Tracks are usually a mixture of synthesised sounds combined with more organic notes from traditional instruments, creating a very "sci fi" sound.
This is a great CD to work and study to as it provides great background music without being too intrusive.

In hip-hop, respect is like currency, and by the mid-'90s MC Hammer was as bereft of props as he was of cash. But there was a short period in the early '90s when every clock in the land read "Hammer time," and truth be told, he was the artist who introduced a lot of kids to hip-hop and its many possibilities. The driving force behind Please Hammer Don't Hurt 'Em, of course, is the irrepressible single "U Can't Touch This," built on the central riff from Rick James's immortal "Super Freak." I can't front. Hammer did sellout some on "Don't Hurt'em" but compared to rap artists of today, he still had respect for himself and his people. He really put his whole hood on the payroll and he never sold garbage and self destructive images to his people. Now that's gangsta!

It is because of MC Hammer that rappers are living in multi-million dollar mansions and driving around in Bentleys while their fans ride the bus. MC Hammer made Rap mainstream and acceptable. And it's this acceptability that has provided grand profit for all those involved--whether it be rappers or those behind the scene. You can preach about selling out, but the fact remains, if it weren't for making mainstream music, there would be no wealth attached.
Hammer was criticized for making rap accessible. He was criticized for making Pop Rap. He was criticized for doing commercials. He was criticized for dancing. He was criticized for keeping his music clean from vulgarity and misogyny. He was criticized for actually wanting to make a good living doing what he was doing. He was criticized for wanting to make Rap fun. He was criticized for starting a clothing line. He was critcized for acting. And he was criticized for not making white people fear him. Now, every single rapper has done at least some of these things, and nobody is saying anything.
But I guess the thing that angers me most is the continuous picking by people who think rappers should adhere to stupid rules about what it means to have street cred. No other genre of music is subjected to so much illogical and lame brained "unwritten rules" about how to behave in order to be accepted.
Rappers should be thanking MC Hammer, not criticizing him. He made Rap fun and enjoyable; and he is one of the only rappers I have genuine respect for. Please Hammer, Don't Hurt Em provided some great rap music. Period!

Some little gems there that I had forgotten!.......2007-03-30
I found it to be a very good selection overall, but I felt too much had already been heard on TV, which of course is what lots of newcomers to classical music might appreciate. I managed to find about 2 hours of tracks that I wanted to keep, which works out quite expensive per disc, but I did find some wonderful music I had completely forgotten about, so it was worth it. All in all, it represents good value, and I have only knocked one star off as so much of it had been used in adverts.
It is definitely a good introduction to classical music, and it has made me want to listen to more of it, so I don't regret this 'expensive' purchase one bit!

To criticize the set for not containing more composers, or more than just snippets of those who are in the set, is missing the point: it is a helpful introduction to finding your way in the huge maze of classical music. It succeeds admirably in this.
Sound quality is uniformly very good on an audiophile system.
