Minutes to Midnight stands to defend Linkin Park's status as the hardest-rockin' softies in mainstream music. Like its predecessors Hybrid Theory (2000) and Meteroa (2003), Minutes to Midnight flexes plenty of decibel-heavy muscle ("Given Up," "Bleed It Out," "No More Sorrow") and made-to-order, melodic radio fare ("Leave Out All the Rest," "Shadow of the Day," "In Pieces"). But for all its volume, Linkin Park likes to paint its heart openly on its sleeve with suspicious sonic drama, as in the palpably saccharine "Valentine's Day." Fortunately, co-producer Rick Rubin brings all these elements to pinnacle effect with the surprise "Hands Held High." On past efforts, the combination of breezy keyboard, arpeggiated guitar, choral vocals, and a military snare-beat would yield another slab of smarm, here MC Mike Shinoda drops the two best verses of his career, blending vocal styles with singer Chester Bennington for a moving piece that's as welcome a repertorial addition as Linkin Park is ever likely to muster. --Jason KirkAlbum Description
"Minutes to Midnight" is rock's most anticipated album of the year. This album redefines one of today's most adventurous, accomplished and acclaimed bands.Customer Reviews:
Took a few spins, but I ended up loving this CD.......2007-07-16
"Bleed it out", "No More Sorrow", and "What I've Done" are my favorites. "No More Sorrow" is even a little reminiscent of Metallica. Overall great CD!
Like Fish - It Didn't Stay Fresh Long.......2007-07-15
However, I'm just not sure what my problem is as their 2007 listener. Yes, it's more mature, less breakdowns, more themes that deal with life today and not life back when I was 15 (maybe with the exception of "tell me what the f*** is wrong with me!" - the clean-mouthed cds were much more creative in their self-expression). The songs were catchy in places but did not pack the energy of the old stuff. They seem to be paying tribute to all the bands that the twenty-somethings listen to and respect, but they can't really hold a candle to these bands in their musicianship nor in their songwriting. You may come to see that all the distortion may have covered some weaknesses on their part.
"Leave Out All The Rest" was a pleasant listen the first time through, as was "Valentine's Day." The two "heavy" songs on the album (yes, just two) I mildly enjoy but they just seem like a different band. Though not overly impressed with "the radio song" at first, "What I've Done" has been one that I actually cling to now because it feels like a natural song for them to write.
It could be my fault...maybe I'm realizing too late that they were always a little cheesier than the rest, and it's just nostalgia that keeps the first two records spinning. It's a noble thought, but other bands have been much more successful in developing their sound and not losing the elements of that sound that made them great in the first place. I don't see this record making any lasting impact. MtM feels like a former great going through an identity crisis.
I dunno...........2007-07-15
I still love LP and they are still one of my favorite bands but I hope they go back to their roots in the future.
Thumbs up.......2007-07-14
The only thing that I missed was Chaz + Mike combo, which worked great in previous releases. This time it looks like it's Chaz's album and Mike was busy with Fort Minor. Another thing - explicit content. I was really proud of LP for revealing emotions without that, cause it's the easiest way, and now.. For that and because LP fans had to do 4 years without new releases - a four.
Love it! Listen to it until your ears fall off!.......2007-07-13
Anyway, as I listen back now, I think Minutes To Midnight is great. It's different than the previous albums, and in some ways comes across as "softer" but no less LP. I love Chester's voice, and he proves that he can sing and not just scream or growl. Plus, the band is stretching their musical chops and showing that they are a true band and not just a collection of raps and samples. Huge props to Phoenix from one bass player to another. He's an inspiration.
Others have lamented the loss of Mike in his MC role. It's true that he's one of the best, but perhaps Mike is changing and growing, too, particularly in becoming a producer and someone who controls the band's direction.
My one worry about the band is actually for Mr. Hahn because his role is the most obviously reduced one, and it would be a shame for him to be phased out. All members of LP are important.
But back to the music... Like their previous studio album, Meteora, this is one of those where I can put the album on and let the whole thing go without skipping a track. It works as an album in a way that lots of other music I've heard lately doesn't. This is not a single bad song on here in my opinion. Some stand out tracks for me worth mentioning are:
"Bleed It Out"--you can tell just by listening that the band had fun doing this one (also backed up in the liner notes, but on this one you don't need the liner notes to tell you). Sounds like a rave on the corner by a hydrant or something.
"In Between"--Mike Shinoda sings and sounds amazing doing it. The track starts in a way similar to Neil Finn's "Souvenir". I've always loved that Neil song (no matter how people object to the content/idea of the song), so that's a win in my book.
"Shadow Of The Day"--It could have been a very boring song, but it isn't and much of that is because of the pulse and energy in the bass. This one has a feel that reminds me of "With Or Without You" by U2. It has other sounds in it that seem very 80s, and yet the song doesn't feel 80s itself.
"In Pieces"--traces of ska, LP style. I kid you not! More than that, they do it well and on their own terms. It's one of those "if you squint" (with your ears) things, but it is there.
"The Little Things Give You Away" In some ways this is the most surprising of songs from LP because it is mostly a voice with an acoustic guitar. The ending totally sells this one, though, because the song is lyrically simple, but the end layers distinct 3 voice parts over each other (2 with lyrics, one wordless, all effective). It actually reminded me of Led Zeppelin's "Battle of Evermore" because some of the turns in the voice reminding me of what John Paul Jones had done in that song as a counterpoint to Robert Plant.
In short, I love this album. It is definitely in my personal top 5 of albums released in 2007.

Latin for "common era," Era Vulgaris holds a pair of common threads with the four Queens of the Stone Age records that preceded it. One, it crosses colossal guitar chords with the most volatile of hard rock melodies. And second, it's as LOUD as loud gets, thanks to Josh Homme, the impatient instigator behind the ever-evolving cast of personalities that make up the band. Detonation comes with track one, as the jagged riffs of "Turning on the Screw" lead the listener into "Sick, Sick, Sick," where Julian Casablancas spews his vocals beneath a wall of multi-guitar catcalls. Although the head Stroke will likely garner the most attention, perpetual Queener Mark Lanegan's velvety pipes earmark two of Era's most booming selections: the funky "Make It Wit Chu" (complete with Temptations-like backing vocals) and the heart-racing three minutes of "River in the Road." Add the garage rock of Homme's "3's & 7's" and "Suture Up Your Future," easy pickings for most likely crossover hit, and Era Vulgaris-- hypnotically and explosively common--holds its own with any in the QoTSA discography. --Scott HolterCustomer Reviews:
A return to form.......2007-07-16
Heavy Hypnosis.......2007-07-16
If there's one word I'd use to describe the appeal of this band it's "energy". Even with a new band line up this is tight, heavy and above all energetic. It gets into your head and makes you move. The tone isn't exactly dark but it is brooding, atmospheric and has that hint of danger that gives the music a real edge. The singles are good and give you a flavour for the album but it's only when you hear this album as a whole and enjoy tracks like "River in the Road" and "Misfit Love" that you'll see what's going on.
I'd highly recommend it.
Need more time on this album .......2007-07-14
Maybe I'll listen it again later and I'll love it then. This happened to me with Faith No Mores Album of the year. I wasn't thrilled with it at first then three years later became my whole soundtrack with exception to "Might Surprise your self". i may right something later on how I feel.

Quirky robot rock with sex thrown in .......2007-07-11
Very creative.......2007-07-11
This album is different than anything I've ever heard. There does seem to be a Nine Inch Nails influence (especially on "Misfit Love"). Not surprising since QOTSA tour with NIN following Lullabies to Paralyze and Trent Reznor appears on a track that is not on the US version. The best song in my opinion is "3's and 7's" and it's probably the easiest to get in to. Very classic QOTSA rock. "I'm Desiginer" is an entertaining track with entertaining lyrics:"It's just like diamonds (pause) in s**t". Josh really seems to have fun singing this one. "Battery Acid" starts out with one of the most unpleasant chord progressions I've ever heard then suddenly morphs in to a fast paced, rockin' song.
The low-lights of the album would be the boring "Suture Up Your Future" which has a catchy bass riff, but thats about it. Then there's "Run, Pig, Run" which takes chaos to a whole new level. The whole album is chaotic but this song goes overboard. And what seems to be the case all to often in music, the album ends on a poor note with "Running Joke".
In my opinion, I think this album is better than Rated R, but it's in a dog fight with their Self Titled album and Lullabies for second among QOTSA albums. Those three are too close to call. Songs for the Deaf is in first and not even in sight. Congrats to QOTSA for keeping it fresh and not putting out the same record twice.

Nine Inch Nails' sixth studio release, Year Zero takes the concept album further than it may have ever gone before. In advance of its release, URLs were hidden in tour t-shirts, music- and image-filled USB drives were 'found' at concerts, and dozens of websites have been packed with conspiracy stories that all involve the year 2022 or 'Year Zero.' Each clue is part of a cohesive whole, requiring a listener to follow an exhaustive web trail to grasp the entire tale. Focusing specifically on the music, "The Beginning of the End," the powerful first vocal track, is like the sonic and lyrical equivalent of an emotional ascension to a rollercoaster's peak, with the last few cacophonic seconds equaling the fall of individual freedoms. "Survivalism," Year Zero's first single, follows with guest vocalist/Slam artist Saul Williams pumping up the passion in its urgent chorus. While still industrial in genre, it's clear that Trent Reznor's musical evolution finds him bringing more mellow songs to the mix than he has on previous discs ("The Good Soldier," "The Greater Good," "In This Twilight") as well as an increased number of funk-affected rhythms, specifically in standout tracks "Capitol G" and "Me, I'm Not." Devotees of NIN's harder sound will appreciate the metallic crunch of "My Violent Heart" and "Meet Your Master." On the whole, the Nine Inch Nails we hear on Year Zero is less focused on producing heavy music and more focused on delivering its heavy, conspiratorial doomsday message. --Denise SheppardCustomer Reviews:
Average. Nothing Amazing........2007-07-12
Post-Apocalyptic Dance Music for the Masses.......2007-07-09
"Survivalism" is the best track from NIN since "March of the Pigs" launched the "Downward Spiral"-era in 1994. The rest of the album alternates between "sound collages" (Reznor's term) and funk/dance grooves. I have to say that I'm not much of a fan of the "funk" tracks--the only musical flaw on an otherwise five-star album.
Reznor did it again..........2007-07-09
abysmally dull, derivative, naive and paranoid lyrics from a political poser.......2007-07-08
To make matters worse, there isn't a single memorable hook line or melody.
It sounds improvised and random with nothing to perk you up. Where are the glorious soundscapes from THE DOWNWARD SPIRAL? Apaprently, Trent was having a laugh in the studio with YZ. He was testing how far he can go with nonexistent music before people quit buying his product. I believe some people would even be praising his output if it consisted of nothing but him reading the phone book. There is no way I'm ever gonna listen to this cd which makes a greater frisbee than cd. I didn't feel a single song. And the lyrics put me off it straight away.
Maybe Trent should realise that he's past his sell-by-date and he should just go back to lifting weights and join some political party instead. It would be more genuine and dignified than this outrageous excuse for a cd.
Brilliant........2007-07-07
Survivalism is the first single taken from this album and its a very good and catchy song with a great beat then theres Capitol G which is one of my favorite songs its about a fascist war mongering creep who enjoys being a powerful and egotistical politician the lyrics are quite funny and it also describes George W. Bush, this along with Me, I'm not and In this twilight are some of the best songs. All of the songs overflow with a bit of enthusiasm as they start building up into something else and each have a different layer of sound unlike the previous album which I thought was very lacking and just wasn't as good, it was just average with a few good songs like Every day is exactly the same, not bad but could have been alot better. There is however two song on Year Zero that I think just didn't work like My violent heart it doesnt fit and sounds very weird its bad and The great destroyer was just average for sounding more experimental.
There are three instrumental tracks and each one is quite good especially Another version of the truth which is a slow piano piece its very calm as if the world has just ended and Hyperpower! which is more heaver and sounds like a bunch of people being gunned down by some soldiers on the street or it could be something else. Overall I would have to say that this album was very unique and thought provoking its one of the best albums I've listened to this year, this album is a must have for NIN fans and I highly recommend this excellent album.

Throughout their nine-year career, Nickelback have stayed true to their roots, releasing five CDs of straight-up, unapologetic rock & roll. So how have things changed for the Canadian boys since the massive success of Silver Side Up and The Long Road? Well, brothers Chad and Mike Kroeger still live in the Great White North, and they still write hook-laden rock songs. The only difference now is that they have the satisfaction, 10 million CDs later, of smugly knowing that even some of their biggest naysayers will guiltily admit to singing along with Nickelback's catchy hits. On All the Right Reasons, one track definitely ranks high up in hum-ability: the first single, "Photograph," reminisces about the bittersweetness of high school in a small town--once again reconfirming frontman Chad Kroeger's ability to write memorable hooks. Regarding the rest of the disc: standard rock topics like love, lust, jealousy, and breakups abound, with riff-y delivery that longtime fans will love. The guilty pleasure bunch will also find what they need within the grooves, on the ballad "If Everyone Cared," the riff-heavy "Fight for All the Wrong Reasons," and the Metallica-inspired "Savin' Me." The disc's most impressive and simultaneously surreal moment, however, exists on "Side of a Bullet," a passionate revenge tale written about the killer of Pantera guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott, which features one of the late Abbott's guitar solos as donated by Pantera bandmate and brother, drummer Vinnie Paul. --Denise SheppardCustomer Reviews:

I also recently saw Petrucci on Tour here at the Ryman in Nashville, TN as part of the G3 concert- he certainly displayed some awesome wizardry
but stood in the same spot the whole time with his head down and didn't connect with the crowd. Portnoy helped by doing some nice tricks with the drumsticks and spitting all over the floor; kinda j. belushi type schtick.

What really pushed me over the edge was their last song, where they [...] (sorry there is really no other word for it) Psalm 23 out of the Bible. First I though, wow, they quote the Bible, but then I realized that they had [...] it. I know that most of you probably don't care about this, but since I am a Christian I don't think it is ok. And it is definitely not 'cool'. Just some excerpts of it, to show you what I mean.
"Lord you are my god and my shepherd

For I know you are with me
... (so far so good)
Decay in the house of the lord
Forever amen
Death will follow me all the days

Album Description
The masters of Symphonic Power Metal are back!Symphony X are recognized by-and-large as one the most important acts in the worldwide metal scene. After the release of their hugely successful CD, The Odyssey - and after nearly five years - Michael Romeo and his band have returned with what is already being praised as their best work to date. Paradise Lost has all the trademarks that have come to be associated with Symphony X: Incredibly intricate and powerful, yet-melodic compositions that showcase every member's unrivaled technical skill as instrumentalists. However, once again it must be said that the spotlight is squarely on the ferocious vocal force of singer Russell Allen and the almost inhuman pyrotechnics of guitarist Michael Romeo.
The North American version of Paradise Lost features a fantastic foldout and diecut digipack that was designed by Warren Flanagan, who has done art-direction for major motion picture blockbusters such as I Robot, X-Men and Blade.
This is thee guitar release of the summer!

Symphony X showing their turbulant side.......2007-07-16
THE DISC: (2007) 10 tracks clocking in at approximately 61 minutes. Included with the disc is a 14-page booklet containing song titles/credits, band photos, thank you's, and several pages of fantasy artwork dealing with dark landscapes, both good and evil. The tri-fold case is a made of cardboard that opens upward and out, verses left to right. All music written by Romeo (except "Paradise Lost" by Romeo and Pinnella). All lyrics written by Romeo and Russell. Label - InsideOut Music.
COMMENTS: Symphony X continues to shred. The same line-up is still in tact that gave us "The Odyssey" (2002) and "V" (2000)... a huge bonus in this day and age where keeping a band in tact over the years is proving to be a tough thing to do. From the outside looking in, the band's chemistry shines - they seem to know what they want, how each other plays and their capabilities, and the direction they want to go... everyone's on the same page. Symphony X continues to be huge in Europe, but has somehow still avoided mainstream success (unlike their progressive rock peers Dream Theater). Perhaps that's the draw for me - supporting the underdogs and spreading the word about such talented bands worthy of audible praise in the world of rock and metal. I had to give "Paradise Lost" several weeks to listen and absorb what was there. First though, I had to get past the thin lame cardboard case - with two of the foldouts looking like flames or fingers intertwined that pop out at you like a 3-D book you had as a kid. Over the years I can only imagine these foldouts getting ripped/bent/frayed by lots of disc use. To me, this is a terrible packaging job. As for the music, it's superb as expected... it's right on par with each of their last 2 albums... though "V" is still my favorite followed by the older "Divine Wings Of Tragedy" - "Paradise Lost" will still sit on the same lofty perch. Romeo continues to be the brainchild of the band... having the major hand in writing all the music, as well as sharing the lyric duties. Part of me wishes this was more of a group effort. The musicianship is unsurpassed... I put Romeo & Co on that same lofty stage as Dream Theater and Kamelot... each band member is a wizard at their instrument(s). The album starts with a 2-and-a-half minute instrumental "Oculus Ex Inferni" - exciting to the hilt - up and down moments with evil chants in the background that would fit nicely in the recent re-make of "The Omen". The first song featuring Allen's vocals is "Set The World On Fire"... this song, as well as others that followed left me puzzled. I've always be drawn to Allen's wonderfully silky smooth vocals. But on most of "Paradise Lost" he seems downright belligerent - more attitude, growl and gruffness in his voice (at times he comes off sounding like a heated Ronnie James Dio). I think though, that's the tone of the album - like good and evil are battling it out, and the end of the world is a distinct reality. You certainly get that idea from the lyrics and artwork within the album. So as much as I miss his smooth vocals on albums past, the roughness in his voice fits "Paradise Lost". The title track is by far the mellowest on the album. Lots of nice piano and keyboard moments as you might expect with Pinnella having a hand in the writing (reminds me of one of my favorite tracks of theirs - "Communion & The Oracle" from "V"). The album closes with the longest song (just over 9 minutes), and it's perhaps the most varied on the disc. "Revelation" rocks for nearly 6 minutes, followed by a soft interlude, then back to a heavy finish. It's complete with keyboard solos that would make Keith Emerson proud. Sit back and let "Paradise Lost" spins several times before judging. Perhaps not Symphony X's best album (ultimately a tough decision because the band has several brilliant albums), but still an amazing piece of work (5 stars).
Buy this cd now!!.......2007-07-15
Beautiful- an unexpected gem........2007-07-14
In short, this album is the band's new weapon. It's a masterpeice. It blows everything I've heard by them (at least half of their discography) to peices. It makes "Twilight in Olympus" look like amateur work. It's good enough to make up for Dream Theater's recent failure, and it's everything the new Manowar album aspired to be, but more. If you like prog, metal, both, or just moving music, buy this album. The title song "Paradise Lost" is worth the price of admission alone.
Oh My Go#........2007-07-13
Mindbending, and Blowing to say the least...
Paradise is not lost for the true metal listener, it is somewhere between track 5 and 9. This is the best I've heard in ...well ok, forever...
Waiting for Heaven &Hell to battle never happened.......2007-07-09
First of all,the wait for the new cd,to fans, seemed eternal. When it was finally released, the fans expected something spectacular, what we got was something that lacked creativity. The story-line,for one is patchy, when cross-efferenced to Milton's epic novel. That's alright, but at least, give the fans something to think about and sink their teeth into. The lyrics are similar to an abridged version of a literary masterpiece.
Musically, the boys still have their chops but the song writing needed to be distributed fairly. It's basically a Allen/Romeo concept,Pinella had nothing to do with it,he's mixed out real good. That's what made The Oddessy and V,Mythology Suite great, the mixture of all writers.Allen's phrasing is too cliché,instead of flirting with other patterns,he sticks to Wings of Divine Tragedy and even totally disgusts me when in the should be apex song, Paradise lost, there is a point where he sings something like Michael Bolton. The raspiness is also annoying in some parts. The whole originality of it it lost.
Progressively,it lacks when compared to their others. It's too commercial, that's what happens when success creeps up the door,it's happened to the best. The cd is not bad,it's just not great. In a summer, when progressive music could have had 4 great releases: Dream Theater,Kamelot,Rush and Symphony X,only Rush's Snakes and Arrows proves to be the best.
Now,as for the designer of the cd packaging ,they should be slapped with a dirty ,stinky salmon fish and hung upside down. The quality of the packaging is low budget and low imagination........ouch,this review hurts me as well !!!!!!!
Remember, small minds, this review is simply my opinion based on my expectations of a great progressive group.

When a movie's main selling point is that it's really big and really loud, the soundtrack's got to keep up. But oddly, this CD falls short--tellingly, the first single is a power ballad by the Goo Goo Dolls, "Before It's Too Late," featuring the kind of emoting previously heard in Spider-Man's "Hero." The album's producers have mostly focused on arena guy rock circa 2007, with songs pulled from new or recent albums by the likes of Linkin Park or Taking Back Sunday. There should have been more tracks like the Smashing Pumpkins' rumbling juggernaut, "Doomsday Clock," Disturbed's compact "This Moment" or the Used's riff-a-rama "Pretty Handsome Awkward." Slightly surprising is the absence of electronics and hip-hop, the only exception (sort of) being Styles of Beyond's "Second to None," which sounds like the Beastie Boys on EPO, and Julien-K's "Technical Difficulties." While the big names are packed in the first two thirds of the CD, the last third serves as a showcase for upcoming bands (whose songs aren't in the movie) that sound exactly like their elders--glossy, huge, based on big guitar riffs. In the end, all this aggro energy feels more cosmetic and corporate than authentic. --Elisabeth VincentelliAlbum Description

Now, directed by Michael Bay (Armageddon, Pearl Harbor, The Rock and Bad Boys) and executive produced by Steven Spielberg, the sci-fi action-adventure flick Transformers, inspired by one of the most popular toy lines in history, is set to become the box office blockbuster of the summer.Customer Reviews:
Where is the score?.......2007-07-14
This soundtrack lacked the background music, like the symphony from the scorponok battle - which is what I'm really looking for.
The problem with this compilation.......2007-07-13
This disc is an OST, an original sound track, not meant to be a score disc. But, being an ORIGINAL sound track implies that the disc contains music from the movie. But of course, with "(Not in Film)" tags by practically every song in the listing, that obviously is the main problem with this CD.
What I do like about it is that the makers of this compilation included NEW music. This music is music that is nowhere else but on this CD. However, the new music on this disc is very diverse. Luckily, I like the Goo Goo Dolls and Disturbed, but I'm unique. Finding this new Disturbed song isn't worth buying the CD filled with alternative and pop. That is the real problem for most people, not that this disc left out music that wasn't supposed to be on the disc anyway.

For there to have been so much amazing orchestral music in the film, the CD soundtrack left out too much and included too many songs not featured in the film.

Just go on Limewire and search those and your set. Save your money for the Score Soundtrack. I don't know when it will be released but most scores come out 2 weeks to a month after Theater release so keep an eye out for it towards the end of July, but I could be wrong. I heard the score is still being worked on for the soundtrack so don't quote me on the release.

What does a wildly successful purveyor of `80s big hair power ballads do in an ensuing decade dominated by fervent shoe-gazing and other attendant alt.cliches? If you're Jon Bon Jovi, you scale back your band's ambitions, retool yourself as surprisingly accomplished indie film and TV actor, and (mostly) wait for the pop music tides to turn in your favor again. But JBJ and guitarist/collaborator Richie Sambora didn't let their band's lukewarm `90s fortunes dampen their knack for hook-savvy songcraft, as this muscular anthem-fest argues at virtually every turn. BJ's songs here may be as infectious as ever, yet they're seldom mere confections, often infused with alternating doses of bracing cynicism (the title track's sarcastic riposte to the '04 election) and reflective, often bittersweet takes on histories both personal and otherwise. If it sometimes stoops to formula--the droning, metallic ethos of the obligatory big ballad "I Am" can't overcome some equally perfunctory lyrics-it's also an album with its share of warm surprises, be they unexpected nods to Dylan ("Last Man Standing," the acoustic idealism of "Bells of Freedom"), the hard-edged "I Want to Live" or a winning duet with Sugarland's Jennifer Nettles, "Who Says You Can't Go Home." Bon Jovi may deliver a sonically burnished triumph here by largely going back to the future--yet does it with one ear crucially cocked towards the anxious energy of the recent past. -- Jerry McCulleyCustomer Reviews:

Album Description
Four years since his last studio album, and following up on his highest charting radio single ever ("Personal Jesus", from Lest We Forget), Marilyn Manson returns with "Eat Me, Drink me". Art openings, soundtrack appearances, and personal circumstance have grabbed headlines for Manson in recent months, setting the stage for the release of Eat Me, Drink Me, which is unquestionably the artist's most personal statement yet. Always the provocateur, in what may be the ultimate subversion of the code of aggro-rock, the songs are immediately catchy - all jagged guitar hooks, anthemic choruses, with an overlying glam-rock sheen. Lyrically Manson has never been more riveting, seemingly having enough to draw from in his own life and from society at large to present a fresh, snarling vision.Customer Reviews:
The ones that make you come unglued........2007-07-14
Mr. Warner needs to find a new gig. After collecting all of his albums and listening to him for 11 years, it seems that he has run out of new morbid ideas. It's time for a change. Is Mr. Warner going to be 50 years old and still wearing the silly spooky fake contact lenses? Is he going to still be writing teenage angst-ridden songs? I find Rob Zombie, Trent Reznor and Ozzy Osbourne to be more mature and even more daring with their music than Marilyn Manson. While "Eat Me, Drink Me" isn't bad, it's nothing close to five stars. In fact, I was more than a little bored this time around, and isn't that the worst criticism you can receive from a fan?
I needed to think about it, but..........2007-07-13
What I love about Manson is that each of his albums is different from the last, and incorporates and explores new sounds, themes and attitudes. Antichrist Superstar is a completely different album from Mechanical Animals, which is completely different from Holywood, which is completely different from Golden Age... etc. Each of his albums has explored a different mood and selection of themes, but at the core is always the fantastic artist who is Manson himself.
Maybe those who like their rock angry will be disappointed that there isn't much to headbang to. Maybe I am not as disappointed as some because my favorite of his works has always been Mechanical Animals, precisely because it was so deep and thoughtful rather than focusing on anger and rebellion. Don't get me wrong, I love me some Antichrist Superstar, but I enjoy Manson's music so much precisely because he is that AND much more. An exploration of love, be it the dark and moody love fitting of his music, seems to be the next logical territory for Manson to cover. If I had to choose only one artist to listen to for the rest of my life, I would probably choose Manson, and not because I consider myself a "Mansonite" - my musical tastes are much too varied for that - but rather, it's because he's one of the few artists whose songs could pretty much cover any and all of my moods.
With that in mind, I don't think this was his best work, but in my opinion it was not a failure by far. I personally find it to be a stronger offering than Golden Age, even though I also enjoy that album. If you prefer the angry side of Manson, you will probably disagree. Technically speaking, I was prepared to object to what initially reminded me of emo-style guitars on some of the songs (Red Carpet Grave, Heart-Shaped Glasses). However, I realized that he has always incorporated new musical styles in his music (come on, you know Golden Age wasn't pure rock/metal, yet most Manson fans still like it...). I personally don't like emo, and so I didn't care for these songs, but I can't in good conscience fault the artist for something he's always done. Keep in mind that I'm not saying the songs were emo songs, only that they had some musical elements that were reminiscent of emo. I also found "If I Were Your Vampire" to be the least strong song on the album lyrically, although not musically, simply because the theme of the lyrics sounded a little cheesy to me and not as genuine as the rest of the album. So, four stars and not five.
And finally, can we all grow up beyond accusing every single artist of selling out as soon as they stop sounding exactly like whatever the first album of theirs you ever heard was? People have accused Manson of this since Mechanical Animals, and with every new album he "sells out" according to a new batch of fans. I personally accept and prefer that artists grow and change. If Manson starts churning out cookie-cutter albums that sound just like Antichrist Superstar when he's 60 years old, then I'll say he sold out.

Four-year career hiatuses followed by sprawling double-albums could spell trouble for a band of the Chili Peppers' stature: consider they'd originally recorded enough for three discs. The restless, trouble-plagued outfit that helped break alternative rock into the mainstream with a potent fusion of punk 'n' funk in the '80s finds itself two decades on almost completely devoid of the former's energetic abandon, while the latter's effusive rhythms are considerably subdued over the course of this two-hour, 28-track collection. It's not so much that the Peppers have lost their muscular, often uber-macho edge as they have willfully tamed it in service of mature reinvention here. The mellower, often introspective, if no less potent pop ethos that characterized the crossover hit "Under the Bridge" blossoms fully here on tracks like disc one's "Snow," "Wet Sand," and the jazz-cool of "Hey."The title track, "Desecration Smile," and "She Looks To Me" finds them venturing further into laid back pop ballad territory, while the tricky rhythms of "Dani California," "Charlie," and "So Much I" eventually kick into familiar top gear on the pop-savvy "Tell Me Baby" and hip-hop seasoned "Storm in a Teacup." It's not that there's a paucity of musical adventure here ("If" and "Animal Bar" finds them wafting into Floydish neo-psychedelia while "Make You Feel Better" seems to channel no less than Joe Jackson) but that it's delivered with a subtlety--and dare we say it?--tasteful musical restraint that's a stark contrast to the band's early, overly overt nature. There's perhaps too much mid-tempo simmering and reflection going on; like most double-albums it could be focused into a much more compelling single disc. But that seems largely beside the Peppers' hooks-over-histrionics point here: an unlikely record to kick back to, and one that both challenges assumptions and eases the band into middle age with an oft languorous, if undeniably savory groove. --Jerry McCulley
Album Description
Anthony Kiedis of the Red Hot Chili Peppers calls the band's first new album in four years, Stadium Arcadium, the most-anticipated album of the spring, "the best thing that we've ever done . There's this weird kind of sublime, subliminal undercurrent that is suggestive, in a spirited way, of our earliest records." Exuding all the passion, energy and funked-up rock that have made the Red Hot Chili Peppers one of the most popular bands in history, the 2-CD Stadium Arcadium, simply put, will knock your socks off.Customer Reviews:

Snow..the hit from the soundtrack.......2007-07-11
For the past two days I've been listening to one song, Snow, over and over. The cool thing is with iTunes repeat, it's the kind of song that just undulates into highs and lows, mellow and rapping and metal and back to mellow; like it never ends (and by the way, I DON'T do drugs anymore. Just want to clarify).
This is what the Chili Peppers represent to me. They have that definite sound that's been imitated ad-infinitum. But they started that sound (at least for white people) and added the heavy guitars to rapping found only in Run DMC's second hit, Rock Box back in the early 80s. Punk? Yeah. Well, that's just part of their story. Much more multicultural than that.
But what I want to say is, you know how there's that song that represents a certain time in your life? I call them life soundtrack songs. They're powerful and give you goose bumps, and you remember that time when you were, say, just walking down the street, and this beautiful serene rhythm took over from hearing that one song. Two years from now I'll try to recapiture this song's impact, but it will be second hand by then.
So, thank you Chili Peppers, for coming up with what I see as tPart II of that beautiful/desperate epic of pain and resurrection; Under the Bridge. That's when I knew you guys were incredible, and that you'd been there.
You know.
And that it made you better in the long run.
