Dramatic Tchaikovsky driven by Mazeel in his thirties.......2005-11-10

Recording of 1960's. Except for relatively high background level, the recording is acceptable. I found this box set in secondhand CD store in Tokyo. This is excellent, sharp interpretation, and clear analog recording at Vienna. I have been feeling that Tchaikovsky tends to be sweet, but with this recordings, the dramatic and brave passages, e.g. last movement of No.4, all movements of No.5 and 6) are well presented. Lorin Mazeel in his thirties utlimately drives the full function of Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra!
