5 out of 5 stars Who'd pay $70..........2006-03-24

...To buy this CD? Just go and buy it at a local music store! This Cd has the songs 10 Miles High and The New Flesh in it, 2 non-cd tracks! buy it!

1 out of 5 stars Marketing masterpiece for collectors only........2005-05-26

In what was no doubt conceived by some marketing whiz somewhere, one single was split across three discs, each with three tracks. Each starts with the title track, then adds two more. And grand total, exactly two tracks were not previously released.

This is the first part, containing the full version of the superb (if a bit overlong) "We're In This Together". Added to this are two extra tracks, both originally on "The Fragile" LP (vinyl) release: "10 Miles High" builds nicely, but never really goes anywhere (although I suspect it may have done better in sequence on the record). "The New Flesh" is essentially several minutes of industrial noise and brief vocals.

Is this really worth it? Not really, neither of the other tracks are really much to write home about. For completionists only.

5 out of 5 stars Five stars and a reason why.......2002-02-27

Let's be clear. Those not wishing to own every Nine Inch Nails release out there may not want to shell out $12 for an import. Yet, since "We're In This Together" was not released state-side as a single (excepting the radio single which is rare and which I own), it would seem aside from owning "The Fragile" (which you should), here is the best way to own the full version of "WITT".

Now, this is all discounting the fact that this single, with the other two 'parts', are what make the official Halo Fifteen. And if you're out there to collect all official halos and whatever else Trent Reznor puts out, why WOULDN'T you pay $12?

The tracks "10 Miles High" and "The New Flesh" were included only on the vinyl edition of "The Fragile" (and I'd like to note that this is not a marketing ploy; Reznor explains that the added and subtracted tracks for CD, vinyl, and cassette editions were for continuity, and if you've ever listened to both the Left and Right sides at the same time, you'll know why).

I rate this single separately from the other two parts of Halo Fifteen, and I give it five stars for one simple reason. Not the price. Not the length. Not any imaginary marketing ploy. I rate it for reasons albums and singles should be rated: All three songs are good. Simply put, but with a large proceeding explanation.

5 out of 5 stars One of three.......2002-02-10

This little pearl should not be ignored. The trilogy is great, together or apart. Don't miss out or you'll be sorry.

5 out of 5 stars Probably the "essential" halo 15.......2001-11-09

Ok, we have the excellent, unedited version of We're In This Together, as well as two Fragile non-cd tracks, 10 Miles High and The New Flesh.
10 Miles High is overall creepy, with ditorted vocals and dire music, but hey, this IS NIN after all. Remeber the ending of the Mark Has Been Made on the Fragile? Well, that's how this song starts out.
Like 10MH, The New Flesh is very creepy, with layers of sounds and vocals, then with a nice outro for a great rock riff to start. A nice b-side, without a doubt.
So, if you don't on the vinyl version of the Fragile, this is highly recomonded just for the two songs.

4 out of 5 stars A super groups collaboration that works.......2003-04-13

In the late 60s, Motown's idea of getting two of its hottest acts together in the studios was a commercial stroke of genius. It spawned the two albums on this twofer and a taped-for-TV live recording for Diana Ross & the Supremes and the Temptations.

Their first studio collaboration - "Diana Ross & The Supremes Join The Temptations", which opens this twofer, is by far the better album. It kicks off on a sizzling note with "Try It Baby", a jazzy showbizzy number which somehow captures the magic of the ensemble. Neither group was trying to dominate the other and that's part of the reason for its success. The other familiar Motown covers - "I Second That Emotion" and "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" - aren't too many streets away from the originals but they still sound fresh and viable. Dee Dee Warwick and Madeline Bell had minor hits with "I'm Gonna Make You Love Me" but it was a little known song until the Supremes and the Temptations made their smash version. Truly an awesome performance and without doubt the high point of the album. "I'll Try Something New" was another example of how getting Diana & Eddie to trade leads was a winning formula with the public as it gave them a follow-up hit. But for me, their nitty gritty super soulful take of "Funky Broadway" rivals Wilson Pickett's original and is the one cut on the album that really impresses. Elsewhere, the energy level sags and the magic dissipates whenever they're lumbered with karoake singalongs like "A Place In The Sun" or supperclub standards like "This Guy's In Love With You" and "The Impossible Dream". "Sweet Inspiration" is sadly less than inspired, while "Then" isn't better than the Supremes' own version.

"Together", their second collaboration, is obviously an attempt to repeat a successful formula and here, the formula wears a little thin. There's an indifferent paint-by-numbers feel about the arrangements. Opening with a pair of gritty but so so Marvin Gaye covers, they prove the "don't fix it if it ain't broke" adage. Not that they do bad jobs of them, only pointless ones. "The Weight" has Diana singing too high and sounding shrill. The other covers - "Ain't Nothing Like The Real Thing", "Uptight" and "Sing A Simple Song" - are fine but unexceptional. The one bum track that should not have made the cut is the embarrassing "My Guy, My Girl", a dreadful medley of two Motown classics. Thankfully, the album picks up once past the three-quarter mark. Mary Wilson's solo spot on "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" is a winner, showing the difference her smoky sultry tones makes to the sound of the Supremes. But Motown has left the best for the last. "Why Must We Fall In Love", the closing number, is easily the best cut and the one track on "Together" that really works, recalling the verve of the two groups' earlier collaboration.

Fans of the Supremes and the Temptations have the UK branch of Motown to thank for making this twofer available. Though hardly classics, they recall the groups at their prime and are charming and nostalgic to listen to. Essential for fans.

5 out of 5 stars A Dynamic Tour De Force.......2002-12-21

Diana Ross And The Supremes and The Temptations each began their careers at LuPine Records in 1959 where The Temptations were organally named The Primes and The Supremes were their "sister" group, The Primettes. Of course we all know the different paths they took once they signed to Motown Records in the early sixties but in 1968 the two super groups who were both Motowns hottest selling acts were reunited for a series of spectacular television specials and a host of successful albums. Diana Ross And The Supremes Join The Temptations (1968) was perharps their best studio album together. It marked an electric, truly dynamic combination with each of their diverse harmonies blending fantastically well together. The album opens with the magnificent Try It Baby which contained raw elements of Jazz/Blues and a terrific blend of vocals from both groups involved. Try It Baby was origanally intended to be lifted as a single but was quickly shelved in favour of the superb, cross-Atlantic Top 3 seller, I'm Gonna Make You Love Me which perharps stands as their greatest and most significant recording together where the striking mixture of Eddie Kendricks somewhat sweet falsetto blended beautifuly with the lush harmonies of Diana Ross. Their vibrant, upbeat version of Smokey Robinson And The Miracles, I Second That Emotion, encapsulates a stronger commercial feel than that of the origanal and the track secured them a British Top 20 smash hit. They make a significant cover of Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrells Ain't No Mountain High Enough with Diana Ross' smooth, silky and soulful vocal style combining incredibly well with David Ruffins more forceful delivery marking an interesting transistion in their work together. The frequently covered This Guy Is In Love With You contains magnificent and positivley beautiful performances all round whilst the tempo ups on their sensational version of Funky Broadway which Diana tackles with style and finesse. Another sensational outing was the mid to upbeat sounds of the ballad, I'll Try Something New which bounced into the American Top 50 whilst they do an adequate job of Stevie Wonders golden classic, A Place In The Sun. Their version of Sweet Inspiration doesn't quite have the force of the origanal though is still magical to hear whilst Diana shows off her effortless flair for ballads on the gorgeous, Then, where her vocal delivery is simply breathtakingly beautiful. Most startling of all however is their positivley unique version of The Impossible Dream where both Diana Ross and David Ruffin use their vocal styles to vast effect making the recording a truly spectacular affair. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable album and fans of either of these class groups will be undoubtedly satisfied.

Together (1969) takes a side step into a more raw, urban field. The tone is earthy and soulful on this set throughout but if anything showcases both groups undeniable flair for versatility. They do a highly effective job on their cover of the Marvin Gaye classic, Stubborn Kind Of Fellow which is fantastically orchestrated with Diana Ross neatly surfboarding along the complex musical arrangements whilst her performance is more lush on I'll Be Doggone. One of the highlights of this set is their fabulous version of The Weight which became another American Top 50 hit (though deserved much greater recognition) with Diana Ross and Eddie Kendricks being the main force on this superb recording whilst their version of Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrells fine classic, Ain't Nothing Like The Real Thing actually surpasses the origanal version. Apart from the hideously out of tune, distortled guirtar riff at the beginning of their version of Stevie Wonders, Uptight (Everythings Alright), the song on the whole is an adequate affair though clearly lacks the spark of the origanal. Livening things up is on their exciting take on Sing A Simple Song which both groups perform well but falling more on the bland side is their odd, disjointed versions of My Guy, My Girl which are gelled together to make a medley but its intentional effect is somewhat lost though Diana Ross in particular puts in an engaging performance on the Mary Wells classic, My Guy. Encapsulating that familiar Motown sound is For Better Or Worse though each groups harmonies sound a little lost amongst the arrangements (but that may have something to do with its transfer onto CD) whilst Mary Wilson takes the spotlight briefly on a bland version of Can't Take My Eyes Off You which sounds a little rushed and uninspired but that is made up for with the truly superb ballad, Why (Must We Fall In Love) which became a U.K Top 40 smas hit in early 1970. Both Diana Ross and Eddie Kendricks vocals are at their upmost, fully forced, with the rhythm building to an exalting climax, though sounds a little fuzzy on this CD. Still on the whole, Together is an overly satisfying album that will please both Diana Ross And The Supremes and The Temptations fans.

2 Classic albums on 1 CD which are both excellent in their own right featuring some sensational and truly spectacular recordings. Recommended.

5 out of 5 stars United - two supergroups of Motown.......2002-07-12

In Britain, sixties Motown music is revered as much as Elvis and the Beatles, so perhaps it is no surprise that a lot of twofers have been released, featuring several of their acts. This particular collection presents the two original albums in which Diana Ross and the Supremes joined forces with the Temptations.

The first of the two is the stronger album, including the transatlantic smash hit I'm gonna make you love me. The remaining tracks include a minor American hit, a minor (different) British hit and several interesting covers, particularly The impossible dream.

The second album, while not as strong overall, is also excellent even though there were no British or American hits. It includes a cover of Can't take my eyes off you with Mary Wilson as lead singer, something rare in the sixties. Florence Ballard was the original lead singer, but was replaced in that role by Diana Ross because none of Florence's records yielded a hit. This helps to explain subsequent events regarding Florence, who had already left the group before these albums were recorded.

If you enjoy this set so much that you want to collect the series, it will not be a cheap exercise. There are six other Temptations twofers and five other Supremes twofers. There are also twofers for Marvin Gaye, Martha Reeves, the Four Tops, the Jackson five and Smokey Robinson and the Miracles. I don't know if the series is complete - there may even be more to come.

5 out of 5 stars TWO SUPER GROUPS UNITED!.......2001-11-10

Diana Ross and the Supremes with the Temptations on both of these albums is excellent. Motown's two hottest acts of the 60's come together to provide some of the best music. I would highly recommend this to anyone who is a Motown fan.

5 out of 5 stars Only Motown.......2001-06-26

...could unite two vocal acts into albums like these and still come out with listenable material. I've been told it was done by recording each of the eight singers individually. If that's so the achievement is even more remarkable. You'd think these recordings would sink under their own weight, but these albums are sparkling, breezy, glamorous, funky, fun--you name it--and crystal clear in sound quality. I believe the wonderful recording of "Can't Take My Eyes" began as a Mary Wilson solo recording and then was built upon from there. Motown alone could do this kind of project and bring it off with surprises, sparkle and a celebratory sense rather than something monumental.

4 out of 5 stars Thanks, Mr. Bus Driver!.......2004-12-05

Just got back from my first visit to NZ (3 weeks - not nearly long enough, and I'll be back). The bus driver on my day trip to Milford Sound played this album on the return drive... exactly what a bus-load of tired tourists needed. I kept listening thinking "Some of these songs sound vaguely familiar... and these voices.... familiar." It wasn't until Weather With You that I clued in and thought "it's a Finn!" But which one - I had to ask the driver, and he told me the name of the album and I picked one up in Auckland just before I left. I'll listen to this one a lot, I think!

Get this for the day the world went away remixes. The we're in this together isn't that great because it is on the cd.

3 out of 5 stars $70 !!! ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND ???.......2005-10-23

Why on earth are the singles from "The Fragile" so exspensive ?? They can't possibly worth $70, and I saw the PT.1,and 3 versions of this single going for as high as $99!!!
What is wrong with these people? I know that if you buyers do enough searching you can find these cd's for WAY LESS than these prices. REDICULOUS!!!
Just do some searching, or try a local used cd store, you can't possibly not find these singles I know because I own a great deal of NIN cd's, I just payed $50 to see them(that was worth the money, I suggest seeing them live if you can). But, do not pay this much money for something you can find for less than $10 somewhere else.

    3 out of 5 stars Good single........2005-05-27

In what was no doubt conceived by some marketing whiz somewhere, one single was split across three discs, each with three tracks. Each starts with the title track, then adds two more. And grand total, exactly two tracks were not previously released.

This is the second part, containing the radio edit for "We're In This Together"-- in many ways, superior to the album release simply because the song is a bit overlong. On the other hand, these aren't really the edits I would have made, but I digress. This is supported by two remixes of "The Day the World Went Away"-- the quiet version (previously available on "The Day the World Went Away" single), which is just superb-- the chant is moved to the beginning, and then the piece plays with sparser and more clever arrangement and good choice of instrumentation-- this one is vastly superior to the album cut. The second remix is the Porter Ricks mix and is a dub mix-- essentially repeated bass and drum figure that have little to do with the song with the chorus occasionally heard below it. Its kind of a weird mix, although I found I liked it.

Is this really worth it? Maybe, the remixes are both pretty strong, but this single tends to be expensive. Probably for completionists only.

5 out of 5 stars its actually part 1.......2003-10-26

this is really part of 1 of the halo fifteen trilogy and the only real new thing on here is the porter mix which isnt that great anyway. only for true nin fans

    3 out of 5 stars The quietness is worth it....in a way.......2001-11-09

This is the WITT single which contains the Quiet version of The Day the World Went Away and the Porter Ricks mix, as well as a radio edit version of We're In This Together.
The radio edit is good, though it's just not as good as the original. I don't mind this, but it just doesn't have that feel that it was intended to have.
The quiet version of TDTWWA is excellent...but doesn't really fit on this single, nor does the somewhat dull Porter Rick's mix. Don't get me wrong, the quiet version is EXCELLENT, but it's already on halo 13, so get that instead.
Not bad, not great, just an ok single. Parts 1 and 3 of halo 15 are much better.

4 out of 5 stars Oh this is too deep!.......2006-08-29

This song harkens me back to my High School days with it's sing-a-long lyrics and sweet Summertime feel. It is a song you would hear in the park with all the Low Riders (my brother was into the "cholo"/Low Rider thing) chilling around with their girlfriends and having a picnic. This song brings such memories back with that "Old School" urban flair.

Now for the remixes. Dark and Sinister describe Peter Rahoufer's remix efforts here, not that is a bad thing but this song has that sentimental "Puppy Love" type of feel that is totally stripped away here. You get the feeling of being in a no-man's land here with all the cold and calculated electronica. Yes this song is about loss but in this setting there is a forboding sense of hopelessness. As a side note, the music reminds me of Depeche Mode's work in the early 1980s. Depeche Mode and Mariah Carey....Wait a minute, that's just tooo deep...ly craZY!!!a

Now on with the Atlantic Soul Remixes. First don't pay attention to the fact that I personally know Craig Christenson who is better known as DJ Craig C., formerly of The Pound Boys, but that's not important. Formerly from Denver, Colorado, Craig C now resides in San Francisco, so I am at a loss with the whole "Atlantic Soul" bit. I guess he is trying to capture the feel of that style. When I listen to this, I hear the typical sound of ol C-boy. There is an element of humaness to his remixes as he draws on his taste for Disco, R&B and Soul along with his other likings for Gospel, Rock and Jazz. This mix is defininetly more warm that the PR remixes but I still think some of the sentiment is lost in the translation in the same way I felt was the case when Craig and - then remix partner DJ Dealer did the honors for Carey's cover of the 1980s Phil Collins hit "Against All Odds".

Having said all this, the original version is the best but all is not lost with the remixes but in the end, I believe the original version will be the one that is remembered.

5 out of 5 stars One of my all-time favorites.......2006-03-13

Not much to say here except that the Reconstruction Radio Mix of this song is one of my all-time favorites!

5 out of 5 stars All the grooves.......2005-12-29

This girl does have a really good upbeat and tone to all of her music. We belong together is such a great song. And I hope everybody thinks that to. she is very very pretty. and seems to have a great Talent. She has a great oppurtunity to be even better then she is right now. All of her videos are awesome, and all the diffent types of mixtures they have for the songs are better than any other. Mariah Carey seems to write her own songs. And to me her music is herself. her number one hit on her other cd was Shake it off. And We Belong Together. Great tones and she has a voice of a rapper. But not so much. Please enjoy this review and you won't be dissapointed with any of her cds.

    5 out of 5 stars such a beautiful song.......2005-12-28

I love the pianos and snaps in this and the catchy fast paced melody. It was definitely the best song of the year and I can't get enough of it.

5 out of 5 stars BEST BALLAD SONG EVER!!!.......2005-12-22

ISN'T THIS THE GREATEST BALLAD EVER???
THE LYRICS,THE VOICE,THE MUSIC.. EVERYTHING IS PERFECT AND THATS WHY THE SONG IS THE MOST PLAYED AND REQUESTED SONG IN 2005!!! GOOOO MARIAH, YOU'RE THE BEST GIRL!

5 out of 5 stars Lost but Now Found.............FINALLY!!!!!!!!.......2005-06-24

Man i cant tell you what feelings i got when i saw that these two records are NOW one. Together with Mary Wells was a nice cd with the fun play between the two and its motown at its best in the early 60's.....My favorites are "Whats the matter with my baby, You came a long way from St. Louis and "I love you for sentimental reasons. Its nice to here nice wholesome singing from 2 great talents of the motown era. Finally with the Take Two......i was a mere child when i stumbled across this great album, i love Marvin Gaye, I was even more impressed with this female voice who i say just blew me away and til this day Kim Weston is a sleeping giant WHY OH WHY this woman never got her due is beyond me. When i discovered that this was on cd i jumped on it and its in rotation as i write this, my favorites on this cd is "I want you round" sung so sweetly and of course "It Takes Two", Just an all around good cd for anyone with a fetish for Marvin and Kim, no disrespect to Tammi Terrell but Kim was my favorite duet partner of all his ladies.........Also for more Kim and Marvin just check out "Marvin Gaye Collection" WOW......What a pair.....These two just compliment each other and give each other a vocal workout.............the interplay is just phenomenal........i saw Kim Weston in concert a few years ago here in St. Louis and lets just say that she still has the powerful voice and all its glory.......Brenda Holloway was on the bill and she too was just great another one of those sleeping giants that i love so much. I just have a love for all the under dogs of motown that has what it takes but was never giving proper due in their hey day.........but at any rate i give 5 stars............Rare Diamond indeed!

4 out of 5 stars Together/ Take Two Twice The FUN!.......2004-09-15

Marvin Gaye recorded with several female vocalists during his distinquished career at Motown Records. During the 1960s and 1970s, Gaye recorded with Oma Page, Valerie Simpson, Diana Ross and Tammi Terrell, who is regarded by many fans and critics to be Gaye's best and most complimentary duet partner. But this disc from the British branch of Motown highlights Marvin Gaye collaborating with two of his first female singing partners: the late Mary Wells and Kim Weston. Combined on one disc, this collection of tunes reveals Gaye at his most soulful best crooning in tandem with two female vocalists who brought out the best in his musical style. During the early 1960s, Mary Wells was Motown Record's first superstar. She'd recorded a respectable string of hits when the decision was made to pair her with Gaye, who by 1964, was beginning his own streak of hit records. No doubt inspired by the success of other successful duetting vocalists including Dinah Washington and Brook Benton and Ray Charles and Betty Carter, Motown Records paired its top female singer with its top male vocalist. The result was "TOGETHER," a rare treat for fans of both singers. The cover sported the two young vocalists gazing romantically into each others' eyes. Wells' Cleopatra styled hairdo contrasted nicely with Gaye's All-American, Boy-Next-Door image. The musical sounds they made were just as complimentary. The disc begins with their hit single "Once Upon A Time," a lilting, cha-cha ballad that's further distiguished by mellow vibe work courtesy of musician Dave Hamilton. The single reached the pop Top 20, but was hurt from larger sales when the nation's top R&B jocks flipped it, preferring its B-Side, "What's The Matter With You Baby," which had a more rocking and soulful beat. To capitalize on the hit single, Motown producers quickly crafted a showcase album for the two singers. "TOGETHER" found Gaye and Wells swinging on such jazz and pop standards as "Deed I Do," "Until I Met You," "You Came A Long Way From St. Louis," "Squeeze Me," "The Late, Late Show" and "(I Love You) For Sentimental Reasons." On most of the songs, Gaye sounded hip, jazzy and aggressive, while Wells often cooed and responded to Gaye's belting with a lot of soul. She allowed her partner set the pace which gave him freedom to improvise and play with his phrasings. Gaye, a natural vocal talent, brought out the best in Wells, making her sound a bit more confident and hip (in the jazz sense of the word) than she probably really was. Afterall, Wells wasn't even 21 years old when this album was recorded. Listen to the playful interplay between the two singers on the swinging "The Late, Late Show" where the musicians and the mood becomes so energized, Gaye unleashes a soulful squall right out of Brother Ray Charles' handbook. Fans were robbed of further "Marvin and Mary" duets when she left Motown for what she hoped would be a more successful financial deal at 20th Century Records. It was not to be, but that's another story. Fortunately, Motown didn't give up on the duet idea, and in 1965, it next paired Gaye with singer Kim Weston. Weston, a fiery vocalist, excelled at sophisticated and adult blues and pop tunes, which were often created for her by her then-husband Mickey Stevenson. Weston had travelled with Gaye as a supporting act in his entertainment revue. It was on the road where a musical rapport between the two singers was established. "TAKE TWO" is even better than "Together" and featured a substantial hit in "It Takes Two," which has since become a pop standard and a staple in the nightclub acts of many female/male duets including Donny and Marie Osmond and Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jr. On "TAKE TWO" Marvin and Kim tackle a variety of material, including Motown compositions such as "It's Got to be A Miracle," "I Want You 'Round," the bouncy "Baby Say Yes," "What Good Am I Without You," and "Baby, I Need Your Loving."Marvin and Kim also covered standards including "Secret Love," and "Till There Was You," from "The Music Man." Unlike Wells, Weston was an expressive singer with a smokey and often husky tone. But she could belt with the best of them because her roots were in the church - in gospel music. And where Mary Wells had cooed seductively to Gaye, allowing him to shine on their duets, Weston often challenged him, sometimes matching him note for note. This caused Gaye to sing with a bit more soulful grit than he usually did and occasionally made some of the duets sound more like a battle or a test of lung power. Still, the outcome was often satisfying with both singers giving their all-out best. But eventually, once again, Gaye found himself without a singing partner when Weston and her hubby Stevenson were enticed to leave Motown for a deal at MGM. "It Takes Two" rose in popularity on the nation's pop charts in early 1967, but Weston had left the label. During a performance on "American Bandstand" Gaye was forced to sing his hit with an oversized rag doll. Luckily, Gaye would continue to find success with female singing partners. After Weston and Wells, he would record a string of memorable love duets with Tammi Terrell, who as stated earlier is widely regarded as his best partner. However, this disc captures Gaye singing with two of his earliest partners from the 1960s and serves as a warm-up for the Gaye & Terrell partnership that would come later in the decade.

5 out of 5 stars come on guys.......2004-08-15

I DONT THINK ANYONE REALLY UNDERSTANDS JUST HOW HARD IT IS TO GET A HOLD OF THESE 2 ALBUMS IN AUSTRALIA. EVERY BEST OF MOTOWN ALBUM HAS THE SAME OLD DUETS. IT TOOK A LIFETIME FOR THE GAYE/TERREL CD... AND TAMMI'S ALBUM TOO FOR THAT MATTER. GETTING HOLD OF ONE OF MISS WELLS ALBUMS(A DUET ALBUM OR NOT) THAT IS NOT SOME RUBBISH RE-RECORDED MESS IS AS HARD AS PULLING HENS TEETH!!!
NOW I HAVE FANALLY GOT A COPY OF TAKE TWO(THE ONLY MARVIN ALBUM THAT HAS BEEN OOP).
TRUE, YOU WOULD HAVE TO BE A MOTOWN FAN TO REALLY GET EXCITED OVER THIS FIND,SO, TO ANYONE READING THIS THAT MAY NOT BE A DIE HARD FAN "COP THIS DOUBLE ALBUM RIGHT NOW, IF YOU MISS OUT IT WOULD BE TRAGIC"
AND TO ALL THE DIE HARD FANS, GET IN QUICK, YOU MAY NEVER SEE THESE ALBUMS AGAIN.

2 out of 5 stars TAKE TWO is fun, TOGETHER not so much. .......2004-08-03

These import two-fers' are terrific. They feature terrific sound quality and great packaging. Overall, I'd give both albums two-and-a-half stars. The albums included are:

TOGETHER (1964; with Mary Wells) ** (2 out of 5) The two hits "What's The Matter With You Baby" (#17 Pop) and "Once Upon A Time" (#19 Pop) are terrific numbers, but other than that this collaboration with the then-popular Mary Wells didn't make much of an impact. Actually, the singles are two of only a few original songs. The rest of TOGETHER consists of standards and show tunes that are usually given somewhat overbearing arrangements that make much of the disc feel more saccharine than sophisticated. Marvin and Mary are in good voice and sound confident together, however they don't generate nearly as much chemistry as Marvin would with Kim Weston and especially Tammi Terrell. I'm giving TOGETHER a decent rating because it's well-executed mood music, however it's surprising undistinguished for Motown and will only appeal to fans. The label did release records that were more mediocre and lackluster during this time, but I don't think they ever released another one that was quite and faceless as this.

TAKE TWO (1966; with Kim Weston) *** (3 out of 5) After the collaboration with Mary Wells proved unrewarding, Marvin was next paired with Kim Weston for this album of duets. Although it's no match for the Gaye-Terrell duets that would follow in the next year, TAKE TWO is a much more rewarding effort than TOGETHER. Not surprisingly, the best track is the delightful smash hit "It Takes Two" (#14 Pop, #4 R&B), however there are plenty of other highlights as well. "Till There Was You" and "It's Got To Be A Miracle" feature the Motown machine in peak form, while Marvin and Kim's cover of "Baby I Need You're Loving" is actually superior to the original version by the Four Tops. On the negative side, the album's first single "What Good Am I Without You" (which flopped, stalling at #61 Pop) is too slight to be successful and there are a few tracks ("Secret Love," "I Want You `Round") where Marvin and Kim's voices don't really blend well. Overall, Take Two is another perfectly solid release from the Motown output.

5 out of 5 stars Two classic duet albums.......2003-08-06

Marvin recorded plenty of duets in his time with a variety of female singers including Diana Ross and Tammi Terrell. This twofer is made up of duets with Mary Wells and Kim Weston.

The first album, Together, was recorded with Mary Wells and released in 1964. The only single from the album, Once upon a time, made the top twenty in America but missed the charts in Britain. Among the other songs here are interesting duet versions of the classic songs Deed I do and I love you for sentimental reasons.

The second album, Take two, was recorded with Kim Weston and released in 1967. It includes both sides of their 1964 USA-only single (What good am I without you b/w I want you round) and ten new tracks. One single, It takes two, was released in 1967 and made the top twenty on both sides of the Atlantic. Among the other songs on this album is a cover of Baby I need your loving, first recorded by label mates the Four Tops, for whom it was a huge hit in America, although it was the Fourmost who had the British hit with that song.

While these are both great albums, Marvin recorded even better albums with Tammi Terrell. If you haven't got any of those duets, you should consider buying them first, although you will likely still buy this anyway if you are a fan of sixties Motown.

2 out of 5 stars Its ok, but not a big value........2005-05-27

In what was no doubt conceived by some marketing whiz somewhere, one single was split across three discs, each with three tracks. Each starts with the title track, then adds two more. And grand total, exactly two tracks were not previously released.

This is the third part, containing the full version of the superb (if a bit overlong) "We're In This Together". Added to this are two extra tracks, the first being a new remix track, "Complications of the Flesh", derived from "Complication" (from "The Fragile") and "The New Flesh" (from "The Fragile" LP, and also found on another part of this-- the piece itself is interesting, the programming in particular is jaw dropping, but overall it doesn't have enough to make you come back to it over and over. It also includes a slightly (virtually unnoticably) extended remix of "The Perfect Drug", from the "Lost Highway" soundtrack-- this is a fantastic song, Nine Inch Nails does drum-n-bass, breakneck beats and a crazed chorus make this one a lot of fun.

Is this really worth it? Maybe, the extra tracks are both pretty strong, but this single tends to be expensive. Probably for completionists only.

5 out of 5 stars best of the 3.......2003-10-26

this is the best version of the 3 halo fifteen singles. it it the first time the perfect drug has appearted on a actual halo release and it has a hybrid track which is quite good

    3 out of 5 stars Not bad..........2001-11-23

Quick, simple, and to the point:
You only get one new song on this disc, Complications of the Flesh. Yes, it sucks at first, but in time, it surely will grow. Also, there's a extended(just a bit) version of the Perfect Drug, a already excellent song. Not to mention, WITT is a excellent song nonetheless.
Pick it up if you want to collect.

5 out of 5 stars Fore mainly Compications of the Flesh.......2001-01-24

On this album you could arlready hear "We're In This Together" on part 2, Damaged Box Set and The Fragile. You could hear "The Perfect Drug on The Lost Highway soundtrack from '96, the Closure VHS shows the video, Damaged also includes this(Because it's the WITT songs in one!). Complications of the Flesh is an awesome remix, using Complication's guitars and some of The New Flesh(found on part 2 and the vinyl version of The Fragile) This is a must for any customer even looking.

5 out of 5 stars Complications of the Flesh.......2000-11-25

Out of the three We're in This Together singles I think this one is the best. You've never heard a nin remix like complications of the flesh before. It's so new and different, it stands out like no other remix can. I'm not saying it's my favorite but it's so different, so experimental(in a good way!). You can tell Trent put some time into this one. And hey, even if you don't like complications of the flesh, there's always the perfect drug.

    4 out of 5 stars Heavy, man.......2004-07-13

Maybe they should have called it "The Middle Stages Of...," since this CD literally picks up where the last one left off. Feel-good band Polyphonic Spree are in fine form on their sophomore CD, "Together We're Heavy" -- it presents pretty much the same sound as in their debut, but more relaxed, polished and panoramic than before.

A chorus of very faint voices and a harp explode into an orchestral psychedelic roar. And that's just the first minute of the rippling opener "Section 11 (A Long Day Continues/We Sound Amazed)." They're on more solid footing with the guiltily upbeat "Section 12 (Hold Me Now)," the quivery poppy ballad "Section 13 (Diamonds/Mild Devotion To Majesty)" and the string-laden "Section 15 (Ensure Your Reservation)."

The Polyphonic Spree manage to expand their horizons a little with the startlingly catchy "Section 14 (Two Thousand Places)" and the bouncy "Section 18 (Everything Starts At The Seam)." The climax of it all is "Section 19 (When The Fool Becomes A King)," a sprawling 10-minute epic that barely avoids being bloated by constantly changing song styles.

Together We're Heavy proves the old saying about how if it ain't broke, don't fix it. The Polyphonic Spree won their fans with their psychedelic feel-good pop, not to mention songs about how the "trees wanna grow," and assuring you that the world is a nice place and that "everything... will be fine." Here, they stick with that formula -- they just smooth out the sound and make the music a bit richer and deeper.

The saggiest point would be the opener, which overstays its welcome by about three minutes. But after that, things even out nicely. The instrumentation has a lushness and richness that is rarely seen in most music -- lots of piano, the occasional guitar, swollen strings, ghostly synth, some harp and, of course, lots of horns. Even if the don't-worry-be-happy songwriting is too sugary for you, the panoramic sweeps of swirling melody will keep you happy.

The feel-good lyrics are still EXTREMELY simple, somewhere between a complex lullaby and a simple pop song. Not to mention perky. "Stranger to the sun/you see the light!" the chorus announces over and over in the penultimate song. But they do expand on their songwriting, as they do in the more melancholy story-song "Section 16 (One Man Show)."

The Polyphonic Spree refine and reflect on "Together We're Heavy," but don't lose the swirling orchestral medleys and upbeat tone that make people like them. Fun and upbeat.

5 out of 5 stars We are all kings tonight.......2004-07-05

This is one of the records that I have been waiting for this year. The first Polyphonic Spree album was actually a demo tape done mostly by Tim DeLaughter done in a week. Due to immediate success at some festivals and in the UK, they forced to release an album. The Beginning Stages was re-released last year with some tracks recorded in the studios of KCRW. They also included the "Soldier Girl" single. This was the first sign of what they could do in the studios sonically. The Spree is impressive in concert alone because of their numbers. Also I think the first album lacked powerful subject matter. Most of the tunes seemed to be about the sun, the sky, and the days. It was very positive and generally vague. The first sign of their greatest is on the tune "Two Thousand Places." With the help of Eric Drew Feldman, they have brought the magic of the live show into the studio. One effect they use is longer length in songs. Even the longest "When The Fool Becomes A King" has four different parts. DeLaughter employs montage and motifs musically. It all comes together and it is heavy, man.

Although it has not been released commercially in the US, save for availability on iTunes, the Remix of "We Belong Together" featuring Jadakiss and Styles P. is an essential listen Mariah for fans casual, diehard, and everywhere in-between.

Now in its 13th week #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, "We Belong Together" has clearly proven itself Mariah's biggest single in her more than 15 years of recording. Is it possible that the Remix is just as good as the original, or maybe even better? You bet.

Jadakiss and Styles P. lay down an excellent rap that fits perfectly into the groove of Jermaine Dupri's frothy piano-driven production. They infect the song with a shot of humor, while Mariah sings her lyrics in a more subtle, laid-back manner, while still showing off her voice like no one else but she can toward the song's end, albeit in a less powerhouse fashion than on the original.

The end result of the Remix is pure perfection, and sits right up there with all of Mariah's hip/pop remixes she has made of her singles since 1995 when she began with the Bad Boy Mix of "Fantasy" with ODB. Furthermore, it's a seperate song in its own right, and smatters even more of a track you'd imagine eminating from a radio on the beach in the summer's dog days than the original does.

All things considered, the Remix of "We Belong Together" is essential listening for all of Mariah's fans and admirers. A lot of time, thought and talent went into this reinterpretation, and it shows.

3 out of 5 stars The remix is okay........2005-08-19

The original is excellent, and it's no wonder that it was, and still is a chart topper. But the remix is really nothing special. Just download the remix off of iTunes for 99 cents, instead of buying this 2 track single.
