Oh dear...they've taken their eye off the ball.......2007-01-08

This is not much like their first album (which was a mostly clever, sometimes ham-handed combination of operatic arias and modern electronic instrumentation).

But Shine is pretty much the same ethno-electronica that was pervasive throughout the 90s. Think Deep Forest, Anubian Nights, Enigma, B-Tribe, and even Sting's "Desert Rose". Yawnnnnnnnnnnnn.

Their first album was good mostly because of its orginality (operatic arias are definitely a challenge), but any old fool can slap a "cool" Middle Eastern chant over a modern beat.

What bugs me about both albums is that they don't maintain that singularly operatic quality--it seems to be a sonic delicacy reserved only for a few tracks.

So, with a very few exceptions, this album is a bit contrived.

Stunningly beautiful music.......2004-11-29

I would describe this music as a mellow and unusal mix of music where Enya meets Maria Callas, and I am a fan of both, so that's a good thing. It is so good that Billboard Music called it the best classical crossover of the year!

I would call this music techno opera scene from the future with beautiful opera singing, just to give you an idea of what this music is like! Also, the singer from the Fifth Element soundtrack, Inva Mula sings the song "Mon Amour".
Also singing on this cd is a singer named Shakila. She sings on "Kokab" and "Khodoya". These three are my favorite tracks. Though the cd in whole is a joy to listen to.

We'll say that "Operatica-Shine" succesfully bridged the Middle East to Europe via southern Spain.

So if you're a nu music dj, pick up this cd, so you can really spin an eclectc mix of music - Savannah Skye aka DJ Dakini-NYC...

Better then R&B.......2004-04-16

My wife and I are always looking for new music to cuddle up to, while either watching the sunset, or getting a little heated. I think this album is a great replacement for Barry White, or some other R&B that people often equate with mood music.

These sounds will actually get your heart pounding and blood pumping without forcing you to constantly skip over songs that just get too rowdy.

Very good, yet not comparable to Diva Dance.......2004-03-12

Let me start out by saying that i love this cd. i bought it thinking that it would be like the song Diva Dance from the Fifth Element. It is most certainly one of my favorite cd's but it is nothing like the Diva Dance song. All of the tracks are much slower, focusing more on the opera part, as opposed to the techno/pop. i would still give this cd a splendid 4 out of 5 stars, but i would just like to get across the point that it doesn't have the type of songs that are advertised. thanks.

I just bought Operatica:Shine. It is my favorite CD, I strongly recomend it to enyone who enjoys opera! If you like "THE DIVA DANCE" in The Fifth Element you will love this CD!

At the Desert's Edge offers recordings of new concert literature for percussion and clarinet. Some of their most popular concert works have been collected together into their new CD: At the Desert's Edge. Featured are compositions written for them by Glenn Hackbarth and Norbert Goddaer as well as works from the standard literature by Libby Larsen, Robert Schietroma, Ed Miller, and Chester Mais. There are three versions of "Going Home"; one for clarinet and stereo tape, one for clarinet accompanied by vibraphone, electric piano, and electric bass and another developed by J. B. Better than what's currently on the radio..........2003-09-13

I decided to listen to this CD on my way to the office, but got to work quicker than usual. I found myself sitting in the car to listen to the remainder of the disc. The songs are filled with passion, and that emotion can be felt in the melodies and lyrics. I recommend it to anyone looking for some good rock music that also has soul. This CD rocks! It makes great driving music, but is also smooth enough to listen to in the office or in the evening at home.

Its Not 80's but Its Rocks , almost every song is great here , but to mention the bonus tracks : walking in shadows , is a very great song , you should listen to it and not wast any time or hestiation getten it , the Other bonus is a remake of You Always Want it as it appears on saint and sinners album , also a great song , im Always Ready to trade if You Are Ready , you can e-mail me .

Erase Alice Cooper Out Of Your Mind..........2000-08-30

To really get to know this album. Maybe most of the people who will buy this CD are Alice Cooper fans. True that Kane Roberts contributed a lot for Alice Cooper's commercial success but comparing this with Brutal Planet is sheer nonsence as they are living on different planets. Overall this is a pure pop hard rock album so songs co-written by great AOR masters such as Mike Slamer(City Boy, Streets, Steelhouse Lane) and Jim Peterik(formerly Survivor) show how the album will be like. Reckless co-written by Mike Slamer is a million buck worth opening track which is the heaviest one but my No.1 favorite . Walk and Love Gone Wrong is a good pop rock song but as Jim Peterik works they are a bit under par. Alive and Well is my second favorite track. Recommended for wide range of rock fans.

Kane Robert's Phoenix Down project, IMPORT VERSION, to summarize...YES! DO NOT miss it! If you loved Kane Robert's previous work you'll love this collection! Along with the new material he has re-released "Rebel Heart" and "You Always Want It" from his "Saints and Sinners" album. The DIFFERENCE between the import and domestic versions is the additional three bonus tracks; "You Always Want It", "Robot", and "Walking On Shadows". I love his consistency. He always produces a polished product. Kane is working with a l-o-n-g list of musicians on this one including; Desmond Child, Sam Blue, Steve Borden, Steve Steele, Jim Peterik, Chang Shapiro, Laughing Boy E., Rob Athas, Jim Jetski, Bubba Cashdollar, Gene Allen, Vinny Burns, Mike Slammer, Davis Jonzz, Steve Deboard, Vassell Fundell, Cha Cho Rodriguez, Greg Morgan, Mike Davis, Danny Boy, Arthur Funaro. I will also mention he's still working with Michael Wagener. Perhaps Mr. Wagener is responsible for a lot of that consistency I was speaking of? Kane's self titled "Kane Roberts" and his "Saints and Sinners" are at the top of my personal play list, and this one is going right up there with them. For those of you who haven't had the privilege of hearing any of his previous work...it's difficult to say he's "like" anybody else. He definitely has his own sound. I think more people know Kane as "Alice Cooper's guitarist". If you love bands like Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Winger, Scorpions, Warrant, or possibly my personal pick for a new contender, Savannah, I think you'll find Phoenix Down right up your alley. Pick up your copy of "Under a Wild Sky" today! While you're at it, check out Kane's other work and some of your other favorite melodic hard rock bands.
