About the Artist
When speaking of Hawaiian music The Brothers Cazimero have become the benchmark-the standard by which all other Hawaiian entertainers are measured. The musical style they create is now part of the fabric of Hawaiian history and their contribution to Hawaiian music and dance has continued to show outsiders to these islands as well as indigenous people how important these components are to the past, present and future of Hawai'i. Band Members are... Robert Cazimero-vocals, upright bass, piano; Roland Cazimero vocals, 12-string acoustic guitar, electric bass
Product Description
We all anticipate the rise of new musical talent, applauding them happily with sincere wishes of success. Likewise, the loss of an artist or the demise of an outstanding group can be devastating. As a performer, all one can hope for in this fickle business is appreciation, and with luck, longevity. Indeed, Roland and I have been most fortunate. We owe our gratitude to many things; a strong foundation, constant encouragement, always believing, and lastly, validation through the acknowledgement of others. In our twenty-five plus years of entertaining, we've barely tipped the iceberg. Each interview, concert, album...but a right of passage-a graduation to a new level. Don't ask us what The Brothers Cazimero want now or where Hawaiian music will be in ten years, rather celebrate with us in knowing we are proud to be here, proud to be continuing and perhaps most importantly, proud to be Hawaiian.--Robert Cazimero

Great Album.......2007-04-11
First album of Mongomery Gentry I have brought. Great album.Great songs. Buy it if you like them.
About the music people!.......2007-01-10
I don't have this album. I came to find out something about one of the songs when I saw that people were posting comments about the bear incident. Where does that fit in the music reviews? How does that tell me if the music is good or not? Stick to the subject people. What was the album like?
I must say that I love "If You Ever Stop Loving Me". I don't necessary agree with what he did, but OMG... I have a life and am not filling my time with writing it in reviews. I'm sure you people filled up all the album reviews with this crap. Go to PETA... not Amazon for this kind of talk. I respect your feelings about it, but this is not the place.
Spend the money on this one!.......2007-01-09
The Montgomery Gentry Greatest Hits cd is worth every penny and it is full of their greatest hits that you want to turn up the volume and enjoy every bit of it.
Something to Be Proud of: 1999-2000.......2006-12-01
Troy Lee Gentry has nothing to be proud of since his guilty plea on 11/27/06 to killing a tame bear!! He bought "Cubby", a tame bear in 2002 and "hunted???" and killed him with a bow and arrow in an enclosure surrounded with an electrict fence in 2004. Shame on you. I have thrown out all of the CD's that have Gentry on them. I plan to take every opportunity to tell anyone and everyone about the "real man" Troy Gentry.
READ BEFORE BUYING.......2006-10-13
This is a great CD... I love the music, its a great survey of Montgomery Gentry's work. HOWEVER, BEFORE BUYING THIS CD, know that it is Copy Protected. That means you WILL NOT be able to put it on your iPod or on your computer. I had never purchased a CD like this before, and am quite disappointed to know that I'll have to resort to illegal file sharing if I want the music I've purchased on my iPod.

Excellent - but no substitute for seeing them live!.......2007-02-07
I love this album. If you are a jam band fan you will love this CD/album. Some one I know thought it sounded a lot like the Grateful Dead when I played it for them. I bought this CD after seeing them for the first time live. They are a great band and are very "together" with their sound. Found this CD addictive and never seem to get tired of it. GREAT BUY!
I only put 4 out of 5 stars because they are still better live than the CD.
Incredible Tunes, Incredible Band.......2006-12-31
Tea Leaf Green is one of the fastest growing bands in the jam band scene and this album explains why. From the very first riff of the Garden III TLG lays down funky lines and fantastic songs (courtesy of keyboardist, singer and banjo player Trevor Garrod) that will blow you away. Though certainly a Jam band and by no means mainstream, their songs are incredibly catchy but remain very satisfying to listen to over and over again. The Rapture is an example of a song you'll immediately take a liking too, but has a quite original rhyme scheme and a unique cowboy funk rhythm.
This album is the culmination of a line of albums that just seem to keep better and better. Their last album, Living in Between is also a masterpiece worthy of pages of commendation. Also their live show is amazing and gets better every time I see them.
Check these guys out!!! They are the future of the jam band scene so get with it and buy this album!
P.S. They rep the bay!
Thank iTunes!.......2006-08-07
Without Apple's iTunes, I never would have found these guys. They are outstanding. Kind of in the same genre of String Cheese Incident or Perpetual Groove, but better!
This is a great album.
Thirty Year Time Warp.......2006-03-29
This album demonstrates everything that was good about 70s rock music - except it's from 2005, not 1975. What kind of diabolical time warp allows an album this stellar to be released 30 years too late? Who knows? Who cares? Call it fearful symmetry and just listen to this album.
For a jam band, there's not a lot of jamming here which - depending on your particular musical slant - might be a good thing. Or not. One thing's for certain, the musicianship is first-rate. Another thing's for certain, and it's that Taught to be Proud is chock full of memorable hooks and thoughtful melodies. At times they sound like the Jerry Garcia Band; at others, Paul Simon; and just when you think you've got them figured out, here comes what sounds like an amphetamine-dosed Pete Townshend guitar solo or power chord to push things over the edge - and all of that in the same song!
Good singin', good playin', good things to come!.......2006-03-06
This is a mighty fine release! TLG is a band to keep an eye on.
My real rating for this is 3 1/2 stars, primarily because I think it is quite good...it's just not landmark (at least, not yet!). TLG are plenty talented and this is one release that I have been enjoying more with each repeated listen.
As other reviews have noted, there's a reasonable tendency to want to compare this to some of the classic albums of days gone by. I'll suggest it may be a little early in TLG's recorded history for that, but here's to hoping that they continue to live up to (and even to exceed) the promise that this release shows they have. I'll gladly give them credit for having come up with a cd good enough to have invited those comparisons!
If you're reading the reviews on this and don't have it yet, all I can tell you is that I bought it and having heard it, would absolutely buy it over again. Check it out!

A good collection.......2007-05-14
Unlike the huge names, collections by Allen are not many - plenty of his opera performances are recorded, but there are only a few collections. My voice teacher recommended I listen to him to understand better how to deliver power without weight, something we've been working on. Yes, it's all in English, but that's fine, and the quality of Allen's instrument comes through very well.
A Musician of Great Dignity and Style.......2005-07-27
Sir Thomas Allen is one of the enduring baritones who has been able to move throughout the operatic repertoire and the recital stage with intelligence, informed characterization, and immaculate musicianship. To have a recording of some of the roles he has inhabited at this point in his career is a gift (this CD was recorded in 2003). To have the added challenge of retaining the stature of the roles while sung in English translations at the request of Chandos is a credit to his abilities and communicative powers.
English is a difficult language to make musical, though saying that abruptly is countered by the fact that some of the most beautiful operas in history are by Benjamin Britten, a composer who truly understood his native tongue and kept it as fluid as the soaring melodies he wrote, as Thomas Allen proves here in 'Billy in the Darbies' from Britten's 'Billy Budd'. It is the other major arias from Korngold to Wagner to Tchaikovsky to Rossini, Bizet, Mozart, Gounod, Verdi, Thomas, Strauss, and Lehar that Allen proves that English translations do not detract at all from the performances!
For those purists who prefer opera sung in the original language (and for those who don't even need supertitles in the opera house!), then this recording may provide a temporary barrier to respecting Allen's singing. But once caught up in the ease with which he moves from style to style and comedy to drama, it is hard not to relinquish old preferences and not be wholly impressed with the beauty of the voice and the warmth and dignity of this fine musician. Highly recommended. Grady Harp, July 05
Passed the "Opera in English" test with flying colors........2005-07-04
For me, the test here was Figaro's Cavatina, from Rossini's Barber of Seville - sung in English, as is this entire compilation of 14 operatic favorites, sung by baritone Sir Thomas Allen. Could he pull it off? Could Chandos pull it off? The answer is an unequivocal, unqualified yes! The secret in singing classics in English, that were written and scored in another language, is in three things: pacing, vocal agility and appreciation for "fit", and what greater test for tongue and timing than Figaro? When you listen to this one song, you will understand why Chandos and its benefactor, Sir Peter Moores have such a passion for their Opera in English series. Sir Allen's voice is a matured unmistakably settled baritone voice that contains a lifetime's worth of understanding of the music and words he imparts through his magnificent delivery. For example, when he sings, Tchaikovsky's "You have my love and devotion" from The Queen of Spades, he delivers a smooth and deeply emotional rendition that lacks nothing in translation. Wagner's "Turning my gaze upon this proud assembly", from Tannhäuser is another example of how fine, full orchestration behind a seasoned voice that waxes eloquent with every phrase, can create a mood of relaxed familiarity with word and music, that may be lacking when sung in another tongue. Great Operatic Arias, serves up a smorgasbord of tunes that are familiar, made more so by the care and attention given to creating a place for the Opera in English series in every home library. The mood here is romantic, relaxed and with few exceptions consistent throughout. If you haven't heard Opera in English, this might be a good way to start, given the fact that the listener gets to sample how different composers might sound in other than German, Italian or French. You might be surprised to discover that when done with care, as is obviously the case here, the sound is about as good as it gets. As an added bonus, the booklet that comes with the CD is full of pictures, libretto in English, and biography that gives us a good insight into history of the singer and his identifying rolls.

"Various Artists"--more true than you might think!.......2003-05-18
This is a nice collection of patriotic fare, and considering the price, a fair buy for the money. What the listings don't tell you is that the songs on this CD are NOT actual recordings of the stars you know and love; rather, they are covers of the original artist's songs, performed by unnamed artists who strive for a sound close to the originals. On a few cuts, these covers are actually pretty good-"I Will Remember You" is done very nicely, as is the Ray Charles impersonator's version of "America the Beautiful". But try as they might, the performances of the songs on this CD for the most part falls short. "America", as originally sung by Neil Diamond, is lacking. It's obviously a guy trying to sound like Neil, but only Neil Diamond sounds like Neil Diamond! And, bless her heart, the singer on "Hero" sings flat. It was uncomfortable to listen to. You can't really do a cover of Mariah Carey with the original quality, just because almost no one (Pat Benatar excepted) comes close to having Mariah's incredible vocal range.
Bottom line--a nice discount CD collection of popular Americana, but you get what you pay for.
Proud To Be An American.......2001-11-11
Because of the events on 9/11/01 , this song seems to bring out the best in Americans. Whenever it comes on the radio, people automatically turn it up and a lot of them stop what they are doing just to sing along with it...as if it was the national anthem. I love this song dearly because I Love This Land...God Bless The USA...

As created by renowned illustrator Gary Baseman, Disney's Teacher's Pet spins the wistful tale of Spot, a dog who wants to be a boy, but whose mad scientist/would-be benefactor miscalculates his dog-year math and gives the hapless hound the body of a middle-aged man instead. But as did South Park before it, the film adaptation of the Emmy honored series trumps its small-screen rival with an ambitious musical soundtrack that's not only an unexpected delight, but one whose songs and performances sometimes rival many an over-hyped, contemporary Broadway stage production in the bargain. After the bouncing teeny pop of co-star Christy Carlson Romano's title track cover dispenses with the youth marketing angle, the album settles into a collection that's split between the more traditional show sensibilities of songwriters Cheri Steinkeller, Randy Peterson and Kevin Quinn and Stephen James Taylor's more contemporary pop/swing/rock pastiche underscore. Broadway vet Nathan Lane infuses his title role with dollops of loopy sincerity and charm on the opening "I Wanna Be a Boy," the wistful ballad "A Boy Needs a Dog" and elsewhere, while Kelsey Grammer imparts his mad scientist turn "I, Ivan Krank" with a delightful, perfectly-pitched hammy bravura. Underappreciated musician/actor Jack Sheldon swings merrily through "Take the Money and Run" while Debra Jo Rupp, David Ogden Stiers, Megan Mullally, Jerry Stiller, Shaun Fleming and Paul Reubens variously make even the briefest of turns memorable on the singalong "Whole Bunch of World," the merry march "Small But Mighty" and the goofy canine affirmation of "Proud To Be a Dog." --Jerry McCulley

Fantastic.......2004-02-04
This is a very good CD. "Teacher's Pet" is my favorite song on the CD.
The following is a reply to CowPunk©'s question:
"What I really wanna know is; who did this arrangement of the 1956 Joe Lubin tune "Teacher's Pet"? (Doris Day recorded it in 1958)
It's driving me wacky... I know it had to be one of my old '80's power pop faves now making a living in Toon Town cuz their kids are watching the same shows as mine. Which is cool- just who is it? I do love that Power Pop sound.
CowPunk©"
No, that's Christy Carlson Romano. She played Ren Stevens in "Even Stevens" and voices Kim in "Kim Possible"(both Disney Channel series).
I agree about the sound.
Better than Broadway.......2004-01-21
The happiest score in years! These are songs to memorize and sing along with. More fun than a B'way cast album. Think of South Park, Family Guy or Simpsons, except that everyone can join in the song-fest!
Disney's Teacher's Pet.......2004-01-20
Certainly some of the tunes are funny and some homages to Disney classics contained therein. Redeeming social value? Get a life! I believe the soundtrack in this case is worthless without the visuals. Anyway, "Teacher's Pet" is much better as a 30 min TV gig.

Homages R Us.......2004-01-20
I'd like to discuss this soundtrack with anyone interested...especially you, Bondorf. My email address is Janarrah1@aol.com....I think this soundtrack was fairly radical for Disney...almost on par with the South Park soundtrack. ONe of the songs struck me as a (sunconcious?) take on "Be Prepared" from The Lion King...but since they got away with using the Blue Fairy/Pincocchio riff and this is a Disney production, the rules of fair use are pretty flexible. What other songs did any of you hear echos of in this soundtrack?

Excellent music, secure performances.......2002-04-17
I would give this five stars, but I think I would save that for something extraordinary, and this isn't. While it wouldn't be the first disc I would add to my collection, this is fine and underrated music. Tomkins is a fine composer, with a very unique style and sometimes great works. Christopher Robinson, now retiring from St. John's College, Cambridge, is a superb musician. Ensemble and phrasing are evident, and musicality bursts out at every moment. The boys have a different sound from his Cambridge boys, more direct and traditional English, and pleasing and effective in this music throughout. The men aren't perhaps as strong as some other top choirs, but the countertenor soloist is marvelous.
If I could say Tomkins reminded me of one composer, it would probably be Tomas Luis de Victoria. The same romanticism and word painting is there in Tomkins music that is so loved in that of the Spanish composer, though Tomkins' music includes many harmonic elements characteristic of the music of Tallis, such as false relations to aid expression.
All in all, this is a fine disc, with some delicious music, ideal for the classical music lover already well versed in the rightly better known music of Tallis, Byrd, Palestrina, Victoria and Josquin des Pres.

Boogie on.......2006-11-18
Michael Katon's U.K. schedule around the time of this release was based on rave reviews from the then Bible of Hard Rock and Heavy Metal i.e. "Kerrang" Magazine, giving it 5 Stars out of 5. His first appearance at the legendary London Marquee club turned out to be a healthy gathering, and it was this tour that proved to be the only U.K. tour with Harmonica come guitarist player Ed Phelps. It remained my favourite of many Michael Katon gigs due to the fact that Michael obviously was revelling in the Spotlight. That, and the only time I saw him play one of my All-time favourite Katon songs - "Tight White Pants". I asked him on a few occasions if he would play that song again, but he insisted that he needed the Harp playing to do so. Michael has continued on for the last 18 years as a three piece, and the music usually gets heavier and heavier with each release apart from the below par "Rage called Rock n Roll". The other best songs on the track are the full-on Original Boogie Tracks "Boogie is my Business (And business is good)" and the ever popular "Roadhouse 69". A fine version of the Cream song "Cat Squirrel" is also a highlight. The production is not the best on this album, but it was an improvement on his previous independant release "Boogie all over your head". I dont think this recording has ever been released on CD yet. I have also heard word that Michael is not planning on touring the U.K. again due to fading audiences which is a real shame. I saw him once at the Cine Bar in Raynors Lane London during the "Rub" tour, and there couldnt have been more than 20 people there. Back to the first time I saw him at the 1st Marquee gig, I will forever remember his dedication to Keith Richards, a barnstorming version of "Midnight Rambler". It would have been a real treat to have heard this on CD, especially a Live album.
Proud is a good album, but not his best. I recommend you start with his next album "Boogie Train", "Rub", "Rip it Hard" or the live album "BUsting up the Joint".

This generous collection of anthems by Thomas Tomkins shows only a small portion of his vast output in this genre. The quality of the music is consistently very high, reflecting Tomkins's early studies with William Byrd, his respected position as a member of the Chapel Royal, and his long residency at Worcester Cathedral. Fortunately, much of Tomkins's music survives in manuscripts from the composer's time, so questions of authenticity and accuracy are largely nonexistent. Tomkins composed a large quantity of verse anthems, in which solo voices alternate with full choir, accompanied by organ. Since Tomkins was an accomplished organist, many of the organ parts are quite demanding. Several of these appear on this program, interspersed with full choir anthems and a beautiful Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis. The highlight of the disc is a Tomkins's masterpiece--"When David Heard"--whose melodious harmony overwhelmed contemporary listeners and has the same power today. --David Vernier
