Grammy winner (for 2001's Halfway Tree) Damian "Junior Gong" Marley, the youngest singing son of the immortal Bob and brother of Ziggy, Julian, Stephen and Ky-mani, has made a major splash in the family business. The confrontational title track of his third album (which entered the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart at Number 7, the biggest opening week ever for a reggae artist), deals with vacationing "haves" partying on the backs of increasingly desperate "have-nots." It has fomented a storm of protest from corporate entities who claim that Marley has presented his homeland (or more accurately, their interests) in a negative light. Another high point is "Pimpa's Paradise," a heartbreaker about drugs leading to prostitution, backed by a vulnerable-sounding acoustic guitar. Produced by Damian and Stephen Marley, it's an eclectic, sophisticated mix, constructed over treacherous rhythmic undercurrents, illuminated by empathy, courage and soul. I really like this album, because Damian throws in a lot of different styles and techniques, which can uncommon with some reggae artists. I believe that these different styles are an advantage, because it keeps the songs varied and diverse.

I listen to this album A LOT! Enough said. I think Jr. Gong gets better and better with each album. It's really neat to see how he has matured as an artist. I think Stephen's production and vocal skills are also proven excellent. Much respect to Damian and Stephen, they continue make their own legacy of music.

Damian Marley's not his daddy. He's got his own new flavor. He covers a lot of stylistic ground and lyrical topics from love to politics. If you want a break from radio hit hacks like Justin Timberlake, pick up Damian's newest and roll with the Jamaican edge. I can't wait till he puts out another CD.

I was expecting a lot more from this album and was so excited when it was released. I found it to be a disappointment, probably because my expectations were so high. I'd recommend his second album much more highly.

When I first heard this album, I was blown away. This is not a reggae album, as most ppl describe it. But a classic nonetheless. Jamrock is a little more matured in lyrical content but this album is very deep lyrically as well. If I had to choose between Jamrock and Halfway Tree, I honestly couldn't have one without the other. That's how important this album is. If you have Jamrock, and you don't have Halfway Tree, then you are missing out tremendously. Or you aren't really a Jr. fan.

One of the best reggae albums I've heard in some time with its raw, driving, hard and relevant lyrics. I like this one even better than Jamrock. This brother has a style that is his own, and his interpretation of the Marley message will ensure that the word of the Last Known Living Prophet survives . . . If you like hard unfiltered reggae, you'll love this one.

Halfway Tree-Reinvention of Rebel Music.......2006-08-24

Halfway Tree, Damian Marley's major label debut is a ground-breaking blend of reggae riddims and dancehall bass lines. beginning with the electrifying reality rhyming of Educated Fools, and pushing into more solemn and inspirational songs such as It Was Written (my favorite), he then pays a beautiful homage to his father in Catch a Fire, doing a very worthy job putting a modern twist to Bob's Slave Driver. From there Damian moves into some R&B and more dance-able tunes, but brings the revolutionary spirit back with the Halfway Tree Selah, and with the humbling social critiques of Stand a Chance. Overall, this album is a well-rounded and fantastic reinvention of Rebel Music and Damian shows his roots and inspirations, mixing everything together, and creating an album that you can dance too and draw inspiration from. His BEST album!

I LOVE HIS VOICE!.......2006-08-05

I am totally in love with Damian Marley's voice. It is edgy, but smooth and incredibly easy to hear. I have all of his albums and there is absolutely NO WAY you can get tired of listening to him sing. On this album, one of my favorite songs is "Still Searchin'". You can't get enough! Seriously. If you are not convinced, listen to the sample. A girl could fall in love, literally! I highly recommend this album to anyone. Very well put together!

This set lends itself to greatly enhancing one's knowledge of the orchestra, instruments in it, and their usage. I am a huge music buff, and I still picked up a great deal I previously did not know. I highly recommend this for all who wish to understand the origin of music, as well as the processes that are employed to create music!

This CD is excellent for the beginner or expert! To be able to haear the instrumets separately and then together really provides a good education. and/or refresher. The book thaty comes with the CD is alomost worth the price by itself!

Whether you're a music novice or pro, "The instruments of the Orchestra" is a very worthwhile purchase. The 7 CDs, with a total of 8 hours, are expertly narrated by Jeremy Siepmann. He's a great speaker, very much like the late Leonard Bernstein was. Mr. Siepmann takes you on an unforgetable musical journey covering the origins and use of the various orchestral instruments throughout musical history. The balance between his narration and a wealth of musical examples, which range from snippets to entire movements, is superb. The comprehensive enclosed booklet is excellent and faithfully follows the 7 CDs in content. Even with my 40+ years of music training I still learned new things from this wonderful collection. Considering the excellence of the content, and a cost that translates to about $5 per disc, this collection is a great value. Grab it, you won't regret that you did. Five solid stars!

This boxed set of CD's with booklet achieved all I had hoped that it would. There are good samples of individual instruments and well done commentary on each. The only drawback was that some of the samples were too brief and could have been longer, hoiwever I guess this fits in with time constraints of the medium. It has given me a lot of clues as to future purchases of CD's for listening to individual instruments. Altogeth a satisfactory purchase and a welcome addition to my collection.

Excellent Intro for Those Not Familiar with the Orchestra.......2003-11-08

I've listened to classical music for years and am interested in composition. I bought this CD set to learn how an orchestra and its instruments work. I thought the CDs would be a nice but boring lecture. They aren't! Not only are they FUN but they are informative as well. I learned a huge amount from each CD and couldn't wait to listen to the next one.

The narrator and writer is a great speaker and holds your attention well. He is definitely knowledgeable. He provides musical examples for each point he makes, so you get to "hear" what he just talked about. I'd say the CDs are about 65% music and 35% narration. You'll learn about the range of instruments, some history, different ways to play them, how they sound, and how they are used in the orchestra. This CD set was a great learning experience and is sold at such a low price!

I recommend this CD for those who want to learn about classical music and those who know about it but are interested in learning more about the inner workings of an orchestra. You'll learn much useful information. For instance, the Rite of Spring (with that eerie start) is written for bassoon! I never knew a bassoon could sound like that but now I do.

The one complaint I have is the last CD. This deals with the orchestra. I wanted more of a tour of how the orchestra has been used through history up to the present. Instead, it was a tour of how different groups of instruments sound. I thought it could have been better. The other 6 CDs are excellent.

The perfect introduction to Ives........2006-08-04

In brief, this may be the best single album to jump start the novice on Ives -- and a great ride for the already converted among us. The comprehensive reviews in this thread say it all; I won't repeat. Let me add this, though: the earlier, excellent recording on Columbia (SONY) coupled with the 3rd Symphony, has a cut in the 4th movement, which Lenny opens up in this more recent recording. So, if you have the earlier recording this one is still something of a 'must have.' Buy it for that 'alternate' library of special recordings, like the Tatrai set of Bartok Quartets, Furtwangler's Beethoven Symphonies from the war years, Toscanini's recordings of OTELLO and FALSTAFF -- and Benny Goodman live at Carnegie Hall, 1938.

An Answer to the Unanswered Question.......2006-03-14

Often faced with the question from friends who are just beginning a classical music collection and want to try the 'American school' - the question being which of the many Ives recordings is a solid groundwork for understanding and appreciating Ives' importance - this is the recording I recommend. Despite the now gratefully multiple recordings of all of the works on this CD (especially the Symphony No. 2), this collection surveys Charles Ives well.

Leonard Bernstein was a champion for Ives performances both in this country and abroad. This recording shows why. His approach to Ives' work is not only diligent in his preparation of the orchestra, but it also programs a spectrum that allows each of the works to enhance the others. Here the Symphony No. 2 begins the survey, finding within the work the humor and nostalgia that abounds. And as if to recapitulate Ives' thoughts, Bernstein follows with the quirky 'The Gong on the Hook & Ladder or Firemen's Parade on Main Street', the 'Tone Roads No. 1, for chamber orchestra', a perfectly infectious 'A Set of 3 Short Pieces, for string quartet, double bass & piano',
Hallowe'en, for string quartet, piano & optional drum, the luminous 'Central Park in the Dark', and of course ends with the now American iconic 'The Unanswered Question (I & II).'

This recording may be dated in sound, but the performances remain definitive. And as for a fine introduction to both the well-known side of Ives as well as the slightly esoteric aspect of the genius' music, this well curated selection fits the bill. Highly Recommended. Grady Harp, March 06

Ives was an uncommon, refined distillate. Much like Wallace Stevens, another Connecticut Yankee insurance specialist thoroughly out of step with his environment, Ives's structural and thematic advances foretold radical new worlds. Many liner notes to recent Ives releases talk about his work as if it were like most other orchestral offerings--in reality, few touch upon how cataclysmic and inventive his realizations were.

Bernstein, conversely, grasps Ives in totality and advances the cause of this frighteningly bold new music, both in practice and in writing at length about these scores and the Protean imagination that engendered them. Bravo, Lenny.

Great Performances Of Ives From Bernstein And the NYPO.......2003-09-02

Towards the end of Leonard Bernstein's career he made several distinguished recordings of 20th Century American classical music for Deutsche Grammophon featuring the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. This splendid recording of Ives's 2nd Symphony, several other orchestra works and chamber pieces is yet another remarkable testament to Leonard Bernstein's empathy and understanding of 20th Century American classical music composed by such distinguished composers as Charles Ives, and, of course, Aaron Copland. No other conducter truly understood 20th Century American music as well as Bernstein. Here he leads the New York Philharmonic in one thrilling performance after another, starting with Ives's 2nd Symphony in a swaggering, convincing interpretation. He follows with a hauntingly beautiful "Central Park in the Dark" and ends with an appropriately brooding "The Unanswered Question"; between the symphony and these orchestral works are sandwiched some fine chamber pieces too. Although these were recorded at live performances, the sound quality is that from a studio. Absolutely a necessary CD for admirers of Charles Ives, Leonard Bernstein, the New York Philharmonic and anyone interested in 20th Century American classical music.

Uniquely American Ives Recordings.......2002-08-09

This is great American music in the truest sense. I was nurtured on movie soundtracks and scores from the likes of Bernard Herrmann, Dimitri Tiomkin, Alex North and others. As we have lost many of these composers and music that they may have left us through the years, I have been methodically looking at American "Twentieth Century" composers from the "classical" arena to fill that void from that great era. I discovered Charles Ives after reading up on Aaron Copland and his foray into many diverse areas of musical composition. One thing leads to another. Ives' Symphony No. 2 seems to have come up very frequently. It certainly doesn't have the melodic quality of Copland yet it does seem to have roots resulting in American musical motifs very strangely orchestrated resulting in some twisted profoundness. What attracts me is how the music almost seems as if it were composed for film. The technical qualities of this recording are marvelous. Leonard Bernstein's intuitive and vibrant interpretation of this music is effectively felt.

The Incognito Return of the Octave Doctors..........2007-06-28

When I first heard YOU, I thought it was the most odd and brilliant record I'd ever heard. It is the final act of a hippie-esque "smoke opera" that takes the now-venerable jam-band flights of trippy fantasy to new and dizzy heights. More akin to Ozric Tentacles than to the Grateful Dead, the tunes on this disc are challenging, mesemerising, and ultimately quite satisfying.

Steer clear if you're attached to traditional song dynamics, 2:45 bits of pop structure, or made nervous by music that carries you away.

Not a perfect album, but well worth the time and attention of the adventurous listener.

Gong's masterpiece.......2006-12-25

Psychedelic space-rock brilliance by an amazing band. The musicianship is unequalled.... as is the 'feel' of this record. Each and every band member gives a tour de force performance. Didier Malherbe's sax playing is breathtaking. Steve Hillage's guitar work, inspired.. especially on Master Builder. If any musical piece pulses with spacey wonderment better than the Tim Blake inspired 'A sprinkling of clouds' then I most definitely need to hear it. From start to finish, a fascinating experience and an amazing 50 minute journey into the mind of Daevid Allen. Listen to it alone with the lights off and candles on.... it will take you to a better place.

The most amazing album I can think of..........2005-10-18

I say so because I can't think of any other album in which this quality of musicianship is submitted to the task of such inspired lunacy.

Steve Hillage rocketing into space on guitar; Pierre Moerlen's frantic jazz pummeling on drums, and magical tuned percussion; Mike Howlett's funky-smooth pursuit of the cosmic groove; and Didier Malherbe's tasty soprano sax and flute musings--a crack band as good as any that EVER played rock music--accompanied by Tim Blake's divinely inspired ambient synthesizer landscapes, Daevid Allen's equally ambient glissando guitar, and the space whispers and instrumental contributions of various women named Yoni.

It's a once-in-a-millenium musical mix that would be noteworthy in and of itself, but shoots into the stratosphere because of the spiritual depth of Daevid Allen's psychedelic whimsy. Allen has written many provocative and beautiful songs, but this album is in my opinion his magnum opus, or the whole tamale if you prefer--the climactic story of everyman Zero the Hero "going round the circle of births and deaths" struggling, and failing, and struggling again to attain/maintain spiritual awakening--it's the story of everybody who ever tried. Accompanied by the musical equivalent of nirvana. (Most succinctly demonstrated by "A Sprinkling of Clouds", which is my favorite instrumental rock piece of all time--a piece of terrifying beauty, like looking into the face of God him/herself...really.)

This release of the album is lovingly, perfectly remastered, and packaged with intriguing drawings and photos of the band that give us a window into the time and place. It is the definitive CD release, and the best this incredible album has ever sounded. It is, as space-rock should be, not of this world.

Many albums of the psychedelic and prog eras came from the stance of presumed enlightenment, with variable musical and lyrical success. However, "You" manages to make the leap from merely inspired to INSPIRING--an actual album-length primer for the pursuit of enlightenment. It's no wonder the band as it was broke up after this album, when Daevid Allen walked away. There was really nowhere else to go but down, after achieving this dizzying height.

If I had to pick one obscure album that I wish that others could hear for their own sake, this would be it. It is, as I said, amazing--and if you have ever wanted to hear how great space-rock could be, you should take a chance on this marvelous disc.

Album Description

1973's Flying Teapot is a Gong milestone. It's the first installment in their legendary "Radio Gnome Trilogy" and a transitional point between the underground psychedelia of Camembert Electrique and the artier, more ethereal sound they later developed. Teapot is more visceral, less cerebral than its successors, and the catchy ensemble riffs of Camembert are still present. The arrival of virtuoso guitarist Steve Hillage and synth wizard Tim Blake represented a great leap forward, though. Blake concentrated exclusively on ambient electronic effects and soundscapes a la early Hawkind, leaving harmonic development to the other band members. Hillage's fleet-fingered jazz-rock solos and arsenal of effects upped the musicianship a notch and reinforced the spacy jazz elements already in place. Whether you're able to follow the willfully confusing storyline or not, the elaborate mythological world created by Daevid Allen is loads of fun when wrapped around music as inspired as this psychedelic art-jazz-space rock amalgam. The key players are a group of gnomes from another planet who arrive in a flying teapot (stoner imagery plays heavily in hippie Allen's vision) to save the world (or something). Actually, some surprisingly intellectual/philosophical messages were contained in the trilogy, leavened heartily by the irrepressible Allen's healthy sense of humor. Charly. 2004.

Just a collection novelty tunes (and poor ones at that).......2006-06-16

I've read the praise- space jazz, counter culture masterpiece, quirky absurdist humour. Sounds interesting on paper but this album is in reality nothing more than a collection of novelty tunes interspersed with pointless sound effects and lame instrumental "noodling". "Neil" from the British comedy series The Young Ones released an album of 60s and 70s hippy tunes called "Neils Heavy Concept Album" which was a spoof. You may have heard the song Hole In My Shoe from that album. Imagine an album containing much worse versions of that and that prety much sums up Flying Teapot by Gong. I'm pretty open minded about music and enjoy most forms, but this remains one of the worst albums I've ever had the misfortune to purchase.

I admit I did laugh out loud a few times at just how pathetic this album could get, but even such lowbrow humour moments aren't enough to make me give this anything other than 1 star.

Spinal Tap was a spoof of heavy metal bands. Sounds like most hippy bands of the early 70s didn't actualy require anyone to parody them.

Gong's first release for Virgin Records was released in 1973 and marks Pt. I of Daevid Allen's masterwork, the Radio Gnome Invisible trilogy. The other albums in the trilogy include Pt. II Angels Egg (1973), and my personal favorite, Pt. III You (1974). Sadly, Daevid Allen left Gong after the You album, taking his hilarious and seemingly magical world of protagonist Zero the Hero, Pot head pixies, octave doctors, crystal machines, and the like with him.

The six tracks on this great album range in length from 1'51" to 11'52" and feature an excellent blend of synth heavy space rock, space whispers, really silly (and fun) absurdist humor, prog rock rave-ups, jazz rock, and all around excellent individual and ensemble playing. Speaking of which, although this lineup is not the classic Gong lineup featured on Angels Egg and You, all of the band members are excellent and a few of the elements that made those later albums incredible are in place. Specifically, newly acquired guitarist extraordinaire Steve Hillage and synthesizer player Tim Blake had signed on. In fact, Tim Blake's spacey VCS3 and mini moog synthesizer work really makes this album work for me and he is highlighted on the short synth piece The Octave Doctors and the Crystal Machine. In addition to bandleader Daevid Allen (guitars, vocals) and space whisperer/Welsh poet Gilli Smyth, former Magma bassist Fancis Moze, Didier Maherlbe (saxophone, flute), and excellent drummer Laurie Allen played on this album.

OK, now for the bad stuff. Although the music on this album is incredible, the 2005 remastering effort by Charly is simply atrocious and it appears that Flying Teapot may have in fact been remastered in a back alley. The cover art is "pixelly" and grainy and it appears that the cover art may have been simply scanned from "Joe's copy" and then edited by someone who did not have a clue as to what they were doing. Even the inner photos appear to have been scanned and are also grainy and "pixelly". In fact, one of the images appears to have been borrowed from the remastered version of Angel's Egg issued by EMI. The sound quality is also terrible, and has all of the texture and dynamic range you might expect from a beat up cassette tape (made in 1973) being played on a cheap, portable tape recorder at a distance of 300 meters. Specifically, the overall sound is low and muffled, and there are points where there is severe distortion.

I will not however, let the clowns over at Charly ruin this fantastic album for me and I will still give this album a five star rating in spite of it all. For those of you that are not as forgiving and cannot overlook these problems, I would strongly urge you to look around and track down another version.

All in all, this album is highly recommended along with Camembert Electrique (1971), Angel's Egg (1973), and You (1974). Just avoid any of the lousy versions issued by Charly.

ideas not fully formed.......2005-09-24

to my dissapointment, not everything by the original daevid allen era gong is indispensable. this is radio gnome invisible pt. 1 with the finest space rock lineup anyone could hope for but the final result of this album comes of sounding like a tentative rehearsal where in many places allen scats some of the songs' improvisations and their arrangement lacks coherence and development. instrumentation is limited to supporting the vocals and chants and rarely gets the opportunity to expound any ideas or feel each other out. in the end, daevid allen displays some infectious song writing ability but it appears that the new members just weren't ready to record yet. this is steve hillage's first appearance for gong but you wouldn't know it as his guitar is barely noticeable. things change remarkably for the next albums 'angels egg' and 'you' which are two of the greatest psychedelic albums ever recorded.

The Formal Start of the Tea Ceremony - Hymns Disguised as Whimsy.......2005-08-14

This is the start of the "Radio Gnome Trilogy" in which Daevid Allen and Gong lay out the full mythology of the Planet Gong and the Pothead Pixies. Calling this "jazz-rock" is completely misleading though it certainly has elements of both. It is the first fully formed expression of the unique sound developed by Gong and used by Daevid and the band to convey profound thoughts in a very silly and beautiful manner. Profoundly psychedelic, this is music intended to be listened to in an altered state, and it is designed to fit together with the following two parts of the trilogy ("Angel's Egg" and "You"...both equally essential). Buy all three albums - program them into a CD changer - prepare your head and don headphones - then get ready for a journey you will never regret. This IS "Lafta Yoga" - Electric Dharma. Hare hare London Bus!!!"

Daevid Allen is the George Clinton of Jazz Rock part 1.......2004-11-26

Strong statement to start a review I know, but here are the reasons. Both Daevid and George held large groups of disparate and talented musicians together for several years, gave them alternative names, and got them to buy into their own unique vision of the world. Both visions included fictitous characters acting out complex plots using a unique language and imagery. Both created music that broke down barriers between established musical forms and molded the pieces into something new and undefinable. Both are very funny men (in more ways than one you could say).

Flying Teapot is part one of the Radio Gnome trilogy of albums (Angel's Egg and You are the others).This is the album that introduces us to Zero the Hero and the Pothead Pixies and includes stories of inner/outer space travel in flying teapots and encounters with wicked witches. With only a handful of very long tracks you need to sit down and get involved for the first couple of runs through, but after a while Steve Hillage's guitar and Blomdido Bad de Grasse's sax will hook you into the hypnotic mantras of "Zero the Hero", "The Pothead Pixies" and "Flying Teapot". After that all resistance will be futile and you'll find yourself chanting "I am, you are, we are crazy" along with everyone else. There are only a couple of weaknesses with the whole thing, but of the trilogy, this is the most straight ahead and rock based. Start here and work through Angel's Egg in to You. It could change the way you look at, well, everything really.

The music in this album is absolutely gorgeous. Usually, I'm not happy with attempts to mix nature and music, but this album breaks my stereotypes! Natural sounds are blended with human instruments to create an auditory setting that quickly and gently pulls you into a meditative state. My taiji/qigong instructor uses this music in her classes and I fell in love with it the minute I heard it -- and I wasn't alone. If you're looking for music to perform taiji, qigong, yoga, or just for meditation, this album is a must!

Thirteen instrumental pieces full of groove, power and sophistication are to be heard, some more hypnotic or peaceful moments being also present in a very melodic jazz-rock fusion style. The splendour of Pierre MOERLEN's playing whatever instrument between drums, percussions, xylophone and vibraphone is very sensible. A posthumous account of a definitely exceptional musician !

A fitting finale.......2007-01-10

This was the last recording for Gong with the late, great Pierre Morelen. What an incredible drummer, classical technique with jazz/rock sensibilities, not to mention his drum sound was ALWAYS superb (check out "Percolations" on "Gazuese!" you will never hear a better SOUNDING drum kit all the way around. This material is quite reminiscent of the late 70's instrumental Gong with an all new band. Enjoy and give thanks we had this great talent in our midst. RIP, Pierre!

Great expectations..........2006-12-26

I loved Pierre Moelen's work up until my collection ended with Pierre Moelen's Gong Live (Arista 1980)
His work took you to the uppermost reaches of the musical stratosphere and often beyond.
Inspirational drumming throughout his journey with Daevid Allen's Gong and its other mutations, and then his forray into differing fusions with various almost mythical (Now) musicians, ala Holdworth etc, was just that, inspiring.
I was fortunate enough to see him in concert with Mike Oldfield, which was an absolute musical feast, and never to be forgotten.
This last effort however, left me cold.
The instrumentation was lacklustre and very predictable.
Whilst I am sure they,(the ensemble) are accomplished musicians, it all sounded very tired.
Pierre's drumming was not enhanced by very average recording dynamics.
Do we expect too much of our idols?
A legacy has been given though, for all to enjoy.

Good Swansong.......2006-01-18

Sadly, Moerlen passed in 2004. However, this final album - recorded in Russia - is a strong swansong, especially after the lacklustre Gong albums of the 1980s. This one is clearly in the mould of "Time is the Key", with full vibes and some great grooves. The backing musicians never get in the way of Moerlen's playing, and the excellent soundscapes between some of the songs help break things up. Recommended.

RIP Mr Moerlen.

Album Description

Set amid the chaos of pre-revolutionary China, small time thief, Sing, aspires to be one of the sophisticated and ruthless Axe Gang whose underworld activities overshadow the city. Stumbling across a crowded apartment complex aptly known as "Pig Sty Alley," Sing attempts to extort money from one of the ordinary locals, but the neighbors are not what they appear. Sing's comical attempts at intimidation inadvertently attract the Axe Gang into the fray, setting off a chain of events that brings the two disparate worlds face-to-face.

The exotic original score by Raymond Wong is complemented by the film's classical pieces, notably Sarasate's acclaimed "Zigeunerweisen" and Khachaturian's famous "Sabre Dance."

great CD, but incomplete..........2005-09-20

This is the soundtrack released to the U.S. Just so you know, the soundtrack sold in Asia features a few more songs. Most notably missing is a song preformed by Huang Sheng Yi, called "Zhi Yao Wei Ni Huo Yi Tian" which comes toward the end of the movie. It might be my favorite song in the movie, and it's too bad it's missing from the U.S. soundtrack.

Fantastic Soundtrack.......2005-08-20

If you have seen this unbelievable movie, then you know how incredible the music is. It matches the mood of the movie and everything the previous reviewer said I agree with. It has great sweeping scores with an extremely cool "oriental/chinese" sound and presence to it. I mostly bought it for a few cool songs I fell in love with when I saw the movie and the whole album is great. You will recognize a few of the songs used in a lot of other chop socky/martial arts movies and you'll really enjoy having them along with all the other great music on this soundtrack and it goes without saying, but if you haven't seen or bought this movie yet, get it. We need to encourage Stephen Chow and support him in his endeavors to make more great movies instead of the same old rehashed formulaic, cookie cutter, boring(need I go on?)"Hollywood Entertainment" fare.

...Absolutely perfect!

As a collector of various movie soundtracks, there are many times when I am utterly dismayed by how unrelated they are to the movies they are supposed to complement.

The Kung Fu Hustle CD, however, is far from any of that! I watched this movie four times in the theater, and every time, the music just mesmerized me from start to finish! The movie was great, and the music was even better!

I quickly ordered the soundtrack from Amazon.com, and when it arrived, I was far from disappointed. This CD is fantastic! It does not leave anything out. What you hear in the movie is what you hear in the CD from beginning to end. The tracks are even in order of which they appear in the movie!

If you enjoyed Kung Fu Hustle, then the soundtrack is definitely for you. Go forth! Purchase the soundtrack, and prepare to be pleasantly entertained by the delightful music!
