About the Artist
Violet Samudra is a fusion of passions from the East mixed with sounds from the West. Fronted by guitarist/composer Steve Booke, the band blends sounds from the Middle East and India to arrive at a very unique musical place. Steve Booke, known for film and television soundtrack work is a graduate of Berklee College of Music. He has appeared on countless recordings with noted musicians from around the world. Ray Ippolito, the groups percussionist, has performed and/or recorded with such musical legends as Baba Olatunji, Eddie Henderson, Mark Whitfield, Frank Colon and Dr. John. Ray has shared the stage with Al DiMeola, Arif Sag, Mordy Ferber, Badal Roy just to name a few, in places all over the world such as Japan, Venezuela, India, Nepal and of course N.Y.C. Brandon Terzic, the multi-instrumentalist of the group playing Oud, Saz and Cumbus has studied under great names in world music such as David Fuzinski, Najib Shaheen and Bassam Saba. Tabla player Muthu Kumar,! is a disciple of world renowned tabla player Ustad Zakir Hussain. His tabla work has appeared on countless award winning Bollywood films and he has played on over 50 CDs. Dave Eggar, who handles the cello parts for the group is a graduate of the Julliard School of Music. He has performed and recorded with Roger Daltrey, Sinead OConnor, Ornette Coleman, Bobby McFerrin and countless others. The combination of these musicians, their training and influences make Violet Samudra a very unique, soulful and spiritaully healing musical experience. After hearing the music the listener will feel what few words can describe.

Bliss Beyond is a fusion of styles and sounds of the East along with easy to digest song structures of the West. When listening to the music you will be transported to an exotic time and place. The skill of all the musicians comes though not only technically, but emotionally as well. Stylistic nuances of the East make this CD even more of a unique listening experience since the instrumentation is anything but traditional. Lead by acoustic guitar the other instruments include: Voice, Oud, Saz, Cumbus, Violin, Cello, Tabla and Percussion. Bliss Beyond is sure to be a CD that you will listen to over and over again dicovering new things everytime and will be one that you will keep in your CD player for a long, long time.
At this point in my life, at age 19, I had come to the conclusion that the "punk scene" had had spent my high school life defending was beyond repair. The supposed "punk rock values" were completely self-centered and self-serving. "Sell-out" was rhetoric applied to anyone who stepped outside punk's clearly drawn boundaries. Major labels, MTV, large venues -- none of this would do for a "true" punk rock band. Heaven forbid you try to stretch past breakneck tempos and power chords.
When IGNORANCE IS BLISS finally dropped, I was mezmorized. Trever & co. showed that they had more up their sleeve than Disconnected and I Won't Lie Down. No punches were pulled in the production; besides decidedly un-punk song structure, they also added string arrangements (thus elevating the song Burden from "excellent" to "ethereal") and ambient sounds that enhanced the mood of the record. It was, and is, flawless.
So naturally, the "punk rawkers" despised it. Their website was flooded with barely coherent complaints. When they headed out on tour shortly after the album's release they were met not only with disapproving crowds, but with violence (which, in part, led to guitarist Chad Yaro's departure the following year). The tour had to be cancelled.
Face To Face then released two more albums, both returning to the "punk" stable, which is unfortunate. In 2003 they called it quits after sufficiently placating their fan-base.
So now, seven years later, the dust has settled. What of Ignorance Is Bliss?
Don't Turn Away is a punk rock cliche. Reactionary smacks of damage control. How To Ruin Everything is a band bored with their music and each other. But Ignorance Is Bliss stands as strongly as ever. With the lyrical brilliance of Heart Of Hearts or Prodigal, or the musical beauty of Everyone Hates A Know-It-All or Lost, it all proves that, for at least a little while, Face To Face was truely one of the greats.

Album Description
Weszt's sound meshes well with contemporary mainstream rock, but his lyrics express a desire for deeper meaning, often weaving themes within themes, where a song is not always what it first appears to be. Most easily described as alternative rock, Weszt's music explores a wide range of subjects. From love to murder, from gunfighters to celebrity stalkers, Weszt puts an uplifting sound to dark emotions.Customer Reviews:
