Great album. For those who don't know where this dude is from, he is a former member from the mythic french punk band Ludwig Von 88. I guess he decided to get along with people from all over the world to make ya dance from Cuba to Europe.

I first heard Sergent Garcia as a guest vocalist on Peret's album "Rey de la Rumba." Garcia and his band are an incredible talent that needs to be discovered in the States. The beauty and rhythm of the Spanish and French language are omnipresent on this disc. The fusion of Cuban son, reggae, rap/hip hop, and salsa blend tremendously well. If you make it past the first four songs, which had me repeating them over and over, the albums entirety will not disappoint. As a lyricist and musician, there is truly no other like el sergento. He is a talent that only comes around once in a generation.

Awesome! We heard this CD in a Cuban bar in Brest, France and had to know who it was; we ran down the street and bought a copy on the spot. This group is very hard to find in U.S. shops, but they're touring here. I met them on tour in Houston (with Los Van Van, who couldn't compare to the fun these guys were dishing out), and they were still amazed that Americans knew of them. I also have their first CD titled "Viva en Sargento", and it is equally high-energy. I'd love to see that one available here as well. I'd also like to know if anyone has a web site where their tours are listed.

...Thought that isn't saying much. Bungarten demonstrates precisely no grasp of the music on this record, and turns a fantastic, and epic, work for guitar into yet another reason why the classical guitar is treated like the red-headed step-child of the classical world. Avoid.

Talented singer/composer/guitar player Felix Valera Miranda leads this marvelous cuban typical ensemble which specializes in the performance of the "son oriental" or "son rhythm" Oriente province style. Cuba's legendary "Trio Matamoros" were among the pioneers who developed this style during the 1920's, 30's and 40's and also the equally legendary "Duo Los Compadres" with Lorenzo Hierrezuelo, Francisco"Compay Segundo"Repilado and later Reinaldo "Rey Caney"Hierrezuelo, defined it. The album title "Can~a Quema" is a son composed by "Los Compadres" leader/lead singer & guitar player Lorenzo Hierrezuelo. The Familia Valera Miranda continues that great musical message with great vocals and very skillful arrangements.
