Good Album.......2004-12-13

Although there are some songs on this album I like a lot, I do not feel this is a very strong Camilo's album.

My favorite song here is "Estoy Desnudo". "Querido Amor" is another favorite, and is followed up by a very good song, called "Mi Buen Amor".

There are three more songs worth mentioning: "Si tu te vas", "Con el viento a tu favor" and "Más que Nunca". The first two are found in many of the hundreds of Camilo's Greatest Hits done over the years.

But, as I have said in other reviews, I would recommend buying some of the original Camilo's album rather that these Greatest Hits, because many of his best songs are overlooked, over and over, on these compilations!!

Querido amor soy tan feliz que lo quisiera critar, son las letras de querido amor. El cual es una cancion muy bonita. Mi buen amor, si tu te vas son temas que quedaron en nuestra mente. Compralo te lo recomiendo.

I love this CD. I have listened to it in my car now at least 40 times. It is such beautiful music. It has lovely melodies and big moments as well as quiet, reflective parts as well. I love new music in general (hate baroque), but this is one of my favorites. Congrats John Carbon!

Excellent Performances of Important New Works.......2004-02-27

I had the opportunity to hear one of the pieces on this fine new recording broadcast in Boston on a classical radio station on Halloween. I think John Carbon is one of the most imaginative composers writing orchestral music today. His music really says something rather than being a collection of sounds designed to impress without touching the soul of the listener. The performances by three soloists (all unknown to me before) are very impressive and quite moving.

Makes great dance music.......2003-11-22

I recently saw a choreographed version of Rasgos and enjoyed it alot. There are driving rhythms and a good measure of humor in the piece. I like the Spanish flavor and the dance had some multmedia slides of Goya's sketches. Claire Chan's playing (the violinist) is really quite beautiful as is the harp writing. Really this is more of a concerto for harp and violin with winds--really unique. This is Carbon's more neo-classical mode (as opposed to his more brash neo-romantic fervor).

I read about this CD on the American Music Center's website: American Jukebox. It is a remarkable set of works, composed by a composer who is bound to be more and more played as time goes by. If you are looking for bravura performances of new music that is beautifully crafted and compelling to listen to, a purchase of this CD is money well spent.

Great New Piano Concerto!.......2003-07-29

I was bowled over by William Koseluk's pianism in the Piano Concerto. John Carbon's concerto is just as the Fanfare review claims, "Extraordinary." I think this is the best recent work for piano and orchestra I've heard. I can't comment on the clarinet work as I'm not a fan of the instrument. The Violin Concerto is also lyric and passionate. Highly recommended!
